media player won't recognise storage card - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi
I have just bought a san disk 2gb mini sd card for my mini s and after a few teething problems I can put items onto it.
I thought brilliant so i loaded on 300 of my fav songs. For some reason windows media player when updating the library notices the files although it doesn't add them to the library so I can't play a list of songs I can play one and then what ever is in the library.
The library only adds from "my deivce" and not from the storage card.
Can someone help me as I really like my music and can't listen to it properly because of a fault.
If not can anyone suggest a music player that works on the mini s/wizard.

Yes people are having a problem with 2gb cards on the wizard - there seems to be a bug.
Some people find it works ok if over half full - is yours?
Second people reporting success after reformatting the card on the device (backup everything on the card before you do this) use storage tools or my fav sktools
Hope it works - i love my music too!

Microsft needs to pay for all the high blood pressure that Windows Mobile devices cause.
1)Don't format your 2GB card to FAT32. Use FAT. It appears the PPC is still living in the 80's. If you use FAT32 it might appear to work fine but everynow and then you'll get currupted files.
2) Get Windows Media Player 11. You can then happily disable the aweful media sync feature in activestink 4.x. WMP11 will recognize your card as long as your PPC is synced.
3) I don't have this problem in WMP11 but in WMP10 if your WMP in your PPC is open, it might not sync your new playlist even though it appears to be doing so.
It appears Bill and the boys at MS are taking mobile media seriously even though they are a decade late. But I'm optimistic

Does not really solve your problem as such, but Media Player is a real dog and a waste of time IMO. Get TCPMP for video (the best and free) and a good music player like Mort, GSplayer or Pocket Player.

I'm having the same problem. I'm using WMP11 and it does not see my 2 gig SD card. I used this set up before with WMP10 and it would always see my SDcard. Ant help on this would be great. It I just plug my sdcard directly into the computer then WMP11 sees it.
Thanks
Garth

Anyone success with 2G Card in FAT32 sync with MediaPlayer 11?

Same Problem
I have a 1GB miniSD card in my Cingular 8525, and windows mobile Media player fails to load any of the songs that are on the storage card into the media library. I CAN play any of the songs one at a time. It's just that the library won't load or recognize the files.
I've tried everything. I've selected "update libary" , I've sync with activesynk...
I don't think this is a size issue. I've tried a few files, I've tried many files.
I don't think this is a storage size issue, as you guys are having the problem with 2GB SD cards, and I'm having the problem with 1GB miniSD cards.
I think this is probably a Media player bug. Do any of the other media players support a library like function?

i have a 512mb card and i don't have WMP11 working either. i am starting to think that it is a activesyc 4.5 beta problem but now sure. also i noticed that my new contacts are not in outlook either. it says it has synced them but when i open outlook on my pc they are not there. oddly enough back to music i can sync music through yahoo music engine perfectly. it shows my storage card and my device.

I have the same problem. I'm using a Cingular 8525 with a 2GB micro sd card, WMM, and WM11. This worked for me: create a playlist in WM11 and sync to 8525. Then, using WMM, use the open file command under menu to find the file you created (mine is located in: file system/storage card/playlist) and open it as a playlist.
It didn't solve the real problem, but at least you can play more than one song at a time.
I hope this helps .
P.S.
I see little red asterisk on the storage card folders in WMM, what do they mean?

okay this is what I have tried with no success in both the test 3.3 rom and the cingular 3.3 rom.
i have deleted all those folders /music /msmdata /wdrm.
I have even formated(slow and fast) the SD card from sk tools, and I have gone into the windows registry(pc) and deleted all sync devices.
no matter what I do I cannot see my storage card in wmp11 in windows vista. on either my hermes or my wizard.
if anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it.

I'm the same, can't find my storage card anywhere! Help!

I had the same problem with my 2 gig corsair... What i did for mine to work for me is I deleted everything on the card than instead of just puting files on the card i made folders(my music, my videos, programs)... Sounds crazy but i haven't had problems ever since.

It works for me and I am quite sure it will work for all of you.

OMG! Thank you so very much Leblan. This worked for me too. I had to delete my music folder, so I lost all my sync music. But who cares, now wmp is reading my storage card again!
thank you

I have an 8525 that did the same thing. Here is what worked for me.
Remove the Micro-SD card. Open Media player and click on menu. Then click on Library. Click on menu again and select the "update Library". Let it run and find the updates. After it completes close Media Player and insert the SD card in the slot. Now open Media player again and click on Menu. Click on Library, click on menu again, click on "Update Library" and let it run. It should see the card files and add them to the library. After it completes open the menu again open the library and look for the Storage card. It should now show up with all of your songs. (mine has 346 songs and it found them all).

how to fix this problem.
On the storage card, delete the following file Storage Card\MSMETADATA\XMEMediaLibrary.mlb You may have to tap & hold in the File Manager window on a blank area and choose "Show All Files" in order to see this folder. If this XMEMedialibrary.mlb isnt in that folder, just delete the whole folder, that worked for me. Also delete the file: Mobile Device\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\XMEMediaLibrary.mlb

Music will not open in media player

Well i have a 1gb sandisk, and when i put music over to it after a week or so it can not be opened when i use the playlist media player, i have to go to the folder and press on each file. and media player 10 on my pc can not sync with the card. I formated the card and then started again but the problem came back. Does anyone know what i have to do to make sure the files dont go weird. I am guessing it is something to do with the card as my pc does not see it and just kicks the multicard off so i have to unplug it and pulg it back in.
Try formatting the card on your device to fat using demo of storage tools or sktools - google to find them.

Try formatting your SD Card to FAT rather than FAT32
I had problems before with the SD card formated to FAT32 when WMP would suddenly stop recognising the micro SD card after a day or so of use. Reformatted to fat and havent had any problems since.
Thanks, i will try to format fat, but how can i do this if using my tytn, i dont have a external driver tu plug my micro sd or the adapter that comes with it.
I will try the program to

It nothing problem with your SD card. WMP just can't recongize your Micro SD card which contain hidden or system folder like "MSMETADATA". Just delete this folder and the WMP can search and add media files again.
WMP sucks.

In WMP in the library screen you select between the machine memory and the SD card memory by using the library drop down in the top left corner of the screen. Have you done this?

Sync music with storage card

Does anyone have problems of the strorage card losing the Windows media library dissappearing, and the update library does not work either.
I had to format the card to get it to work then it comes back after a while again.
I have too
At the beginning I was syncing using WMP11 with XP and VISTA (same player)
NOW I AVOID to open WMP11 when my TYTN is connected. I had my card scrambled 2 times and not recognized, I HAD TO HARD RESET THE PHONE TO HAVE IT RECOGNIZED AGAIN!
I used flash format to check the card and everything seems ok. So I've deleted all the MUSIC and VIDEO folders, including DRM folders, and now it's working again.
Now I use a simple copy and paste, a playlist editor on the phone....
May be is a FAT problem (My card cames in FAT 16 format), may be is a WMP11, may be is a VISTA problem...

Yes, I have this problem and it's driving me nuts. Update library always stops with a "can not add tracks to library because there is not enough memory" type message, and trying to fill a 1 GB memory card by syncing with WMP11 stops after a while with a completely hung phone.
Only way to fill the card is to copy tracks in batches, but then of course the update library fails.
I'm going to try a different music player on the TyTN to see if that works better.

You guys probably already know about this but:
This is a standard WM5 problem. To resolve problem with library:
Find MSmetadata folder on storage card - DELETE it (need file explorer set to show all files - hidden files)
Should find it works better now. Reconstruct library.
If still stuck see here:

or search using MSMETADATA on this forum

Thanks. That appears to work reasonably well.
I also found that unchecking the "use advanced networking" box in Settings>USB to PC appears to have cured the freezing of the sync process.

Media Player not recognising Storage Card

When I sync my mp3 files to the storage card, all works fine and the card is displayed with The Device in The Media Player. On leaving Media Player and later returning the Storage Card is not displayed, only The Device. File Explorer finds the Storage Card and displays the files. Media Player can play the selected file.
How do I get the Media Player to display the Storage Card as well as The Device? My mp3 files are all on the Storage Card.
I am using ActivSync 4.2 and Media Player 11 on my Laptop.
Help Please
Could this be a Media Player 11 problem?

Thanks Guys
Thank you Prof for the information.
All now works fine but I have logged a fault with HTC Europe so i will wait and see what their response is. I am sure it is a software problem which they can hopefully resolve with their next update.
Hope I don't have to send the unit back as I am in South Africa and we have no agent here-only for Imate.

Workaround
I have been looking into this for about 3 weeks and I am now 95% sure it is because the storage card is full when WMPlayer tries to write its DRM / Metadata to the card. Deleting the MSMETADATA folder is only part of the fix because it frees up space but it will continue to fail. It is still a bug and HTC should fix it up but the workaround it is to leave some space on the card, i.e. don't fill it full of music. I am trialling WMplayer 11 Beta on the PC and it has an option to leave some space free when syncing. Seems to be working fine. For me, this 'feature' is one of the most frustrating things about the device so if you are suffering too then I hope this helps.
FYI I have logged a call with HTC and they are working on fixing it up

8525 - Storage card not showing up in Windows Media Player

I can access the storage card through the File Explorer, but Windows Media Player stopped showing the storage card option in the library page. Weird, and annoying. I can only access my storage card song files through File Explorer. Can anyone help?
This has come up a few times in different threads.
Open File Explorer in wm5
Select Show all files from the options
Go to your storage card
Delete the file called METADATA
Open media player
Update the library as you usually do and the storage card should re-appear
You might need to do this from time to time. Most people do
careful with that camera eugene
I discovered that if I stop my music (not pause) and close (exit so that it is no longer running in the background) wmp before starting the camera app that I don't lose my library on the storage card anymore.
if you poke around in the registry, a few things in the camera app are interesting here. there is a coexistwithwmp item, which is set to false. this causes the camera app to kill wmp. there are also some timers to shut down wmp. I think these are the culprit but I haven't had time to prove it. maybe someone on the forum has fewer kids....
wes
Craig, that solved my problem. I can finally stop wrenching my head over this.
Thanks guys for the tips

I tried this on my 8125, but it didn't work. Is an 8125 differant than a 8585 for this problem?
To be clear, when you say "open media player" then "update the library...", you mean the PC based Windows Media Player 11, right?
Any insight on this issue would be most appreciated, as always.
Eric
Update media player on 8585.
