Overheating causing my data corruption? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have been having big problems with data being majorly corrupted on my SD card. All the files and folders are either dissapearing or having their contents scrambled. Folder names are also having the names changed to random nonsence.
Now I am starting to think that it could be a heat issue.
After taking the memory card out, it felt very hot and the back of the MDA was very warm too.
Does anyone know of any overheating issues, especially after using wifi for a while?

If you use any high battery consuming application like wifi, the battery will get warm. You can use batti to check battery temp if you want. Sounds like your storage card may be faulty - try reformatting with storage tools - google for it - the demo will format for you.

My Vario gets quite warm when I have Wifi on and I'm charging it simultaneously.

Do you regularly swap your memory card between your Wizard and a desktop/notebook card reader? Some card readers have 'issues' which can corrupt the data on memory cards, especially high-capacity ones.

Well the more i thought about it, the more and more i started to think that i had fallen for the eBay fake memory card scam. Especially as the seller has now un-registered himself.
So i picked up a new 1 gig card on the way home from work. It seems to work just fine and the tranfer speeds have increased massively.
I am a happy bunny now (although i wasted my cash on a duff card). But i will let you know if the same problems happen again.

SD card disappeared *POOF*

Hi all,
Had my XDAIIi for a month or so now... beside the odd lockup it's been more or less trouble-free.
However, I put the phone in the cradle today and got a strange message from WMP about sync settings... upon further investigation I found that my storage card is no longer recognised by my phone. It a Viking 512mb card.
I can't see it on File Explorer or via exploring on Active Sync. It's as if no card is plugged in... I tried another old 8mb card that I had and it works fine.
What should I do. Try to return the card, or is there a way I can reformat it? Any advice would be helpful...
Hi
I got the same problem, this is the second SD, I got the same weird msg.
Did you find a way to fix it?
The SD is not recognize neither in digitals cameras (tried only one) or other pocket pcs (other XDAlli and an HP).
I've heard form some friend that lot of people are getting this problem...
maybe vikings are troublesome..

Yep my new XDAlli killed a dane-lec 512mb card after a couple of weeks.. Couldn't use it in anything. Got another 512mb card this time branded as PRT?? card has been OK for the last 4 weeks but I do get the "storage card detected - search for audio & video files" message every now and then.. I also find the XDA can't see the card sometimes but a quick removal & replacement fixes the issue. I have also notice xbackup now takes around 10 mins..It was taking over an hour with the dane-lec...
I'm sure there is a compatibility issue with somecards..
AMAZING
I just read this post out of interest, casually browsing through the forum waiting for 5 o'clock , went to my XDA 2 and guess what.... no storage card!!!
Forunately, a soft reset was all it needed but how spooky
odd my xda2 like all others take a few sec's to reinit the sd card when it wakes up
and if it's needing some batt it dont
i've used sandisk slow version 128MB
and now kingston ultra something something 512MB
never had any issues apart from the sandisk being superslow
So once it's toast, is it really toast or can I somehow reformat it?
I guess I'll try to return it...
Can anyone recommend a card that hasn't reported any issues?
I am having the same problem... I am using PNY cards and am now on my fourth card. I am going to try a new branded card when i get the chance. People seem satisfied with ScanDisk cards so am going to try them.
MMCdata not seen
My XDA II recognize my MMC but file explorer does not show all of the data. Even my card reader does not show the data in MMC. But memory shows that Card is in use and all of the data is there as shown by the memory used... Please help!

Storage Card Freezes Device On Resume?

hey guys, just wondering if this is a known bug on universals or just several roms or if i have a dodgy universal or sd card in general:
It seems when i bring the device out of standby mode after a long period of inactivity, i enter my password and the device just freezes, locks up - Dead.
When I take the storage card out and repeat, the device is fine which lead me to believe the card was duffly formatted, so i stuck it in my card reader and formatted it into FAT32 and then put all my data back on... same problem!
So i then flashed my device from the QTEK rom to the o2 rom in corp mode to see if i still had the issue... was fine for a short while then earlier today i turned it back out of standby and same problem!
So i've narrowed it not to be the storage cards fault, since the card works fine in my xda 2s, and card reader and it seems to either be a subsequent issue in the o2 and qtek roms, or maybe ive got a duff universal with dodgy card slot?
Is this lockup issue a known bug?
Sometimes when i get lucky the device doesnt lock up but instead the card disappears from the system view, and only removing the battery and then rebooting solves it.
If anyone can shed any light i'd appreciate it!
had similar problem
On my compact and PRO (univsersal) I had 1 1gb SD card that always gave a message improperly removed when the device came out of standby.
Used the card that came with my PRO , a 512mb SANDISK no problem.
Put the 1gb in my panasonic camera its fine. the 16MB that came with my camera but branded panasonic works fine in my PRO, left the 512 in my compact for as MP3 with bluetooth headphones.
I think the compact had less problems after a recent T-mobile ROM update.
I think the Compact and PRO are both fussy what cards they use. My 1gb SD card is a generiic 66x. Also I think that there are some bugs to be ironed out with power management.
BTW should it be flashed in FAT or FAT32, some devices can only read FAT I believe.
If you use standby/suspend and you have media files (music/books/etc) on the SD card and the app in main memory you'll have problems when you re-start. I get this problem with MS Reader and eBooks all the time. Looks like another bug in WM5 to me.

Funny, I have all of my apps on the Main Memory, and my .prc's, .avi's, and .ogg's on the storage card, and I've never had this problem?
(I'm using a 1 Gig Jessops card that originally came with my camera, no idea what it "really" is though)
@sun69,
the problem only occurs if you use powersave/suspend and you leave a media file open, eg when reading an ebook.
this also happens when you have a 2577 folder on the sd card and do not have a start.exe in it. It will let the device hang.
Ive found the problem to be with the SD card itself, if i use the 128mb Sandisk from my Xda II s it's fine, but within ten minutes of sticking the 512 Lexitar card in, the whole device is ten feet under...
Looks like ill need another
MurphmanL
I reformatted my 2GB SD card and one problem I had with WM5 reporting a shortage or RAM went away. Not really sure why the Exec seems to be so sensitive about SD cards.
Actually this reminds me... I used a 1GB KINGMAX SD card in my XDA II Mini and it hangs randomly... Now I'm using a 1GB Sandisk SD Plus USB in my XDA Exec and it hangs randomly too...
I am reverting back to me Panasonic 128mb SD card to see if that helps... Although it's weird that on my Xda Exec it only SOMETIMES hangs when I receive an SMS... don't know whether this is two issues or one.
I have a 4GB Transcend SD Card. I can install and run any application on it but, the camera application can't seem to read or store any pictures on it. It states: "not enough memory"
I tried reformatting it using Pocket Mechanic on my Exec and still the same result. I tried reformatting it on my computer but it can't read the 4GB SD card from Transcend.
funny I have a 1Gb Sandisk card and even if I have no media files open sometimes it just hangs on resume. The only way to get around this problem is to leave the XDA switched on all the time and swithc only the backlight.
However, this way the battery life is shorter. I think this problem should be addressed to someone who is technical (not like me) maybe we get a plausable explanation of what shall we do.
It is very annoying since when the system hangs up the mobile does not have any coverage and in sales it means loosing potential customers!!!!
XDA EXEC
Same problem Here.
I had a 1 Gig card and I often had to take it out to solve the problem.
Now I have a 2 Gig card (Sandisk Ultra II) and the problem is solved.
I'm not that technical, but wasn't there an issue with dual voltage sd card's?
I too have a memory card problem. I have loaded some pictures and videos on the card but as soon as I try to open them in File Explorer the XD Exec freezes and will only work again if I remove the memory card or reset the Exec. Then it freezes again when I try and read the memory card again. I've tried loading stuff on using Active Sync and using a memory card reader and still the same. I've even formatted the card again. It is a cheap SD memory card will I need a new memory card or is it a software problem?
@jah, my wife has this same problem on her Wizard (vario), she got a 128Mb miniSD with her Vario. If she leaves the card in and allows the device to suspend then wakes it up she gets a white blank screen and has to soft reset to recover. With the card removed the problem goes away. She had her vario replaced because of this fault (tech support thought it was the vario at fault). It was only when the problem occured with the new vario that I had a play and found with the card removed the fault went away. We haven't taken the card back yet, but I am 99% sure it is a card fault.
I might try her card with the adaptor in my Exec and see if I get the same problems as you are getting?
Regards, Simon
It seems like Dopod900/Univeral is sharing the same problem, too sensitive toward particular SD brand/model. My Dopod900 also having a huge problem recognizing the Kingston 2G SD 133x but works fine with Transcent 2G SD 150x.

Soft Resets, Storage Card

Hey all! I'm new to the forums so first of all I'd like to thank you all for the nice community we have going on here.
That being said... My Wizard is having this weird issue w/ my Kingston mini SD 1gb card. It gets corrupted and everything but an Inbox.XXXXXX folder gets "erased" - the files still have their space allocated but they won't appear. I have to format the card so it goes back to full.
Has anyone here experienced something like that? This is starting to get annoying...
this just happend to me. I soft reset and all my my files are missing on the storage card, but its claiming i used 300mb
You probably need to get a new card. It does that when the fat table gets corrupted. It's fairly normal to happen once in a great while, most cards will do that at some point in their lifetime, but if it does it continuously it's time to get a new card.
very true. i have had tons of problems with kingston cards (lots of times it even forgets that it is a formatted card!) and finally decided to spend the extra bucks to get sandisk ones. haven't had any problems of that sort since then.
Same here: using kingston 1gb , files and folders get deleted and folders with weird symbols start showing up. But the weird thing is that i was using the same card with my original TMO rom. Everything was fine. I am having the problem since i have flashed to the TouchFlo .14 PDAVIET ROM. It may after all be the card (which was highly rated). What do you guys recommend SanDisk or PNY ?

SO SD Card Issues

So I got this phone a few days ago. I use jet audio plus for my music and have about 30gb of music on my SD card. Pulled the card outta the old phone and put it in here. It reads it fine and saves all my photos. I noticed that the music app will sometimes go blank for a minute and my playlists will empty. After a few seconds, the music all comes back like it is rereading the SD card. First thought was maybe a problem with the app so I emailed the dev and they told me to troubleshoot and see if it happens with music not on the SD and then try music on the SD on Google play music.
Problem did not occur with music on internal memory. Problem did happen in Google play music. So then I checked my photo and noticed the galleries do the same thing and go blank for a second and then reload.
The memory card is maybe 2 months old and it's a higher quality one with a good speed rating. Before I was gonna reformat it, I figured I'd check online and see if anyone else reported an issue. Sure enough, I see samsung.com has a topic in their forum and tons of people are complaining about the same issue with many different sizes and types of cards. I was surprised that this wasn't posted here yet (at least from my quick searches).
Anyone else experience anything similar? Any feedback? News?
Auto correct changed S8 to So in the title*
Still no update on this issue. Thread on Samsung forum is 8 pages long of people troubleshooting, so far no solid fix. I'm not (knock on wood) experiencing the random reboot issues that others are. Perhaps those who are should download SD card monitor and see if their card is going crazy too.

All I can say that when my card started disconnecting like this on my previous Samsung phones, it went bad withing few weeks, I mean bad like not able to access it at all. If I may suggest, do full back of everything on that card, also check LOST.DIR, if anything is there you already have some files corrupted/lost. I don't know if this is SD card issue or phone error corrupting the card, but I lost about 4 cards this way over the years, but nothing recently and my S8 works fine.
Try backing up the card and reformatting in the new phone. I had a similar experience going from the s6 to the s7. No issues with s7 to s8, so far, though.
I've had very bad experiences with memory cards and cell phones. To be fair though, those were crappy memory cards I'd bought and I certainly got what I paid for. Now with this new 256gb Samsung EVO card, I'm hoping good things for it. Reviews certainly paint it in a good light.
I'm running the Xtreme level SanDisk. I am worried about the card being burnt up, but I don't know if it's the problem. Tried other cards like other people have in the topic I posted, same results.
I just want to say that I have personally have had VERY bad luck with SD cards I get off of Amazon. The ones I buy at a store never suffer such issues.
This is just my own personal experience, others may differ.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Issue still on going. More and more people reporting this on the Samsung forum.
Have people tried formatting using the phone? I haven't had a problem yet.
I formatted a Samsung 64gb ultra as card that I got from target with my phone. It disconnects. It has nothing to do with Amazon, or cheap sd cards.

One thing I thought of, make absolute sure the card is seated flush in the holder. Sometimes a corner will fight its way out. I put it on my desk and lightly pressed until it clicked. Obviously you may have too but I'm just trying to think of things before blaming the card reader in the phone.
Yes, people have tried all kinds of trouble shooting. A lot of people formatted in the phone and on the pc

Yeah right after I made my last comment I went and checked that. It didn't go back in until it was as flat as possible. It seems to be working so far. I also polished the pins with brass polish to ensure a proper connection. I'll come back later to update if everything stays okay or not.
Having the same sd card problems with my Sprint S8+. Sometimes it reads it and sometimes it doesn't(ghost icons) with constant different sd card notifications .
It's a new 256gb samsung evo pro card that came with the $99 immersive bundle from Sam but tried my 64gb pro card out of my Note 4 and same thing. Of course tried formatting, reseating card and sam support said it had to be encrypted which was no help. They did give me a ticket and label to send it to them for repair.'
Now the question I have.......are there people that are having NO sd card problems with putting apps and folders and such on it ????Wanting to know if it's a possible bug/software problem that will have a fix or a hardware problem with my phone and think that I should send it in. Never had any problems like this with my Note 4!
My sd card seems to be fine after reinserting it.
I have not come across any issues with my SD card (Samsung Evo 256GB) on US S8. No error messages what so ever. Actually kind of surprised, since in the past almost every Android version update brought some new permissions and messed up some form of SD card access. The messages about removing SD card is not normal and it will corrupt SD card if it happens during write cycle.

No apps. Hundreds of folders, thousands of files. SanDisk 200 gb.
I am getting some strange issues related with write permissions on micro sd with some apps. I think are related with encryption. I am testing.
No encryption, I don't believe in full encryption, most of the stuff is pictures and videos which don't need to be encrypted, for things that need to be secured I use secure folder or encrypt the file itself. Also I don't care what anybody says, encryption increases usage of CPU, slows it down and uses battery. It also increases the risk of corruption and file error and in case of some errors there is no way to access it from computer to recover data.

Update: disabled micro sd encryption today and write access permission issues seem to be solved so far.
Sd card disconnected again. So obviously the slot is loose garbage. I put the phone in my pocket while listening to music and the music stopped. I pulled the phone out and the sd card was unmounted. The sd was a huge reason I went with this phone and It's ****!

Memory Upgrade Time

Nothing like having a .5 tb data drive on your 10+, 1 tb ones are still on the high side but starting to see good reasonably priced .5 tb ones lately.
Go for the V30 spec ones. Been using Lexar flash products for over 15 years, excellent products, never had one fail.
This one should work well in the 10+...
https://www.anandtech.com/show/13542/lexar-launches-512-gb-a2-class-microsd-card
Best deal I've found:
https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...ds=epd:15737020019612347070,cdl:1,prmr:1,cs:1
Will see what's it like in a few days...
Update, got it today and slammed it in.
The 10+ recognized it and formatted in about 10 seconds.
Showing as 465 gb available memory.
Downloaded a 221 gb folder from internal memory in 96 minutes.
Appears stable and working normally... sweet.
Note: Samsung File Manager was glitching on me after the setup and file transfers. Clear app cache. Perfect.
Update. Zero issues other than normal need to clear file manager caches.
Poweramp had to reset its library from the former internal music folder to the new SD card one.
Poweramp is a champ, took less than 2 minutes and works like nothing ever was changed
Runs great. Easiest SD card install ever.
Didn't need to do a low level format to get Android to "see" it.
Remember to never touch any of the SD card contacts when handling and installing. If there's a lot of ESD (static electricity) ie low humidity, carpet, wool sweater etc... touch an earth ground before handling the card. Repeat if you need to get up during the installation. Using a ESD ground strap and mat is best if you have it. If you can feel, hear or see a static charge it's already enough to destroy an SD card!
Handle like a RAM stick! These cards do have some built in ESD protection on their inputs but it's has a limited voltage and number of ESD events that it can absorb. One ESD event can destroy it or cause a failure days, weeks even years later.
ESD is the #1 cause of premature failures.
Yeah if you ever see a phone center not using ESD protocols (most don't) be mad... and do it right, do it yourself!
Internal speed test of card. The N10+ does not disappoint...
Write from SD card to internal memory
Roughly [email protected] or 79.15MB/s
Next upgrade is the 1tb V30 Sandisk Extreme, lol down to my last 100gb
Got the 1tb V30 upgrade today from B&H Photo for a total of $189, free 2 day Fed Ex. Extremely well packaged, overkill. Order Friday afternoon. B&H Photo does not disappoint.
Since I have .5tb internal memory on this Note that's largely unused I will copy what's on the .5tb card to internal memory. Then slam in the new card and load it from that copy.
Reduces the possibility of errors and it writes relatively fast like this; SD card to/from internal.
Not having a SD card to use as a data drive is unthinkable to me at this point. All my computers are dual drives. The new Samsung flagships suck Apple bad.
Configured like this, the Beast rocks...
Online. The N10+ recognized the new card at boot up. I formatted anyway. No detected glitches so far, replaced a few shortcuts, rescaned Poweramps new library copy and once again fully operational. The data transfers appear to have gone perfectly.
Internal copy times:
Old .5tb card (read speed)
SD card > internal memory [email protected]
New 1tb card (write speed)
Internal memory>SD card [email protected]
Both cards are V30 Sandisk Extremes.
A 1.5tb dual drive N10+, hell yeah!
Power used for both transfers:
Yes, well... this was disturbing. Had a error on a Poweramp playlist with one song. Said it wasn't in the library on its SD card database, it was.
Restored it to the playlist, no other errors noted.
So I looked around storage a bit and unmounted the card. On remounting got the card is corrupted error message. So I rebooted, clear the system cache and the card is functional again. wtf? Android Bench is the prime suspect, probably not SD Maid however will review all apps that have access.
Or was it just the fact I failed to reboot before remounting the card? spooky.
Whatever, it never hurts to reboot or clear the system cache when having any kind of issues.
Meh, time to make another backup... because you never know. Androids very rarely crash and burn but it can happen at anytime.
