Infrared connection problem - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I have been trying to connect my SPV M5000 to my SmartPad2e via Infrared without success .
The SmartPad2e (notepad portfolio from Seiko Instruments USA inc.) is used to capture handwritten notes and drawings, instantly sending them to your PDA via the infrared port. Using the SmartPad2" application (InkNote Manager) you can save/view/edit your notes and drawings before sending them as email attachments.
I have exhausted all help from both Seiko support and Orange support and have been given this forum as the best place to contact someone who may be able to help or point be to somewhere for further support.
It would seem that the two devices have different types if infrared, which communicate at different speeds. A therefore neither device can understand the other to make a handshake (hope I got that terminology right :? ).
Anyway after all that introduction, does anybody here know of a driver (or something) that could slowdown the fast infrared port 1.1 on the SPV M5000 so it can communicate with my SmartPad2e :?:

Bump!
Does anybody know where I can find out further information on setting/controling infrared connections

Bump!
I still haven't been able to get this infrared connection issue to work.
Any ideas anyone

...did you try them both to connect to a pc to see if the problem then also exsist?...

I can connect my SPV M5000 to my laptop via infrared OK (shortcut icon displays on my desktop and a task bar icon indicate that my device is in range). But when I try to beam an image file to my device I receive and Wireless Link Error message which says "The transfer failed. An error occurred while Wireless Link was connecting to the other device. error code 0x274c has no description." If I try sending an image file from my device to my laptop it says "tap to send" I select then is says "pending" than after a while "failed". Is this a compatability use or have I missed a setup option on my SPV M5000?
The smartpad still works fine with my old PDA.
Do you need any futher information, can you advise/help
TIA
David

...i don't think it's any baudrate problem, but more of a kind of file-transport-protocol problem...
...found this in register, seems Bluetooth has same protocol as IR:
HKLM\software\microsoft\obex] protocols=bth,irda
Does SPV M3000 have BT possibility and if so can you also try to establish a connection with pc to find out if same kind of errors occurs?...

Unfortunately my laptop does not have bluetooth...
However I have successfully sent and received photos between mobile phones and my SPV M5000 using bluetooth.
I could ask a friend tomorrow if we can test bluetooth via their PC if this would help.

Cannot connect through infra red

Please help me solve infrared problem with my device since i am not able to sync using IrDA. This is a problem that I cannot resolve and I wish that somebody could really help me and tell me the possible resolutions taking into consideration that I dont have any keyboard or any external hardware attatched to my pocket pc So please I would appreciate Any assistance.
Zimo
I have similar problem with AT&T PPC2002 (XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2). The phone was bought with this ROM, so I didn’t try with other versions.
When I run ‘infrared receive’ application or try to beam any file my phone simply hung till I soft-reset it. It may be the conflict with other programs but I not sure. How to check who else uses IRDA and how to remove those programs/conflicts?
Help please
the idea is that can any body from the developer team help us ?
Haloo zimo, the main idea here is that you should make sure of
1)the Ir port on you PC or lap top is working as some IR ports does not work with all devices like Y140 "SigmaY140"
2)You should start the active sync from the device not the pc
I hope my experince with your problem give you help ,if you need more help you can contact me (I live in cairo too)
I am still trying to find a way to assign a "virtual" port to the irda, I am trying to get tomtom2 working with an infrared gps connection but if I choose infrared port it locks the machine up, beams is unchecked, tomtom will work on any ipaq with tomtom irda after choosing the "generic irda" port shown in gps settings. Any help appreciated.
i good thing to try is to see if you can beam stuff to the pc
when i want to connect i
choose the Infrared receive
in programs then i place the xda about
10cm from the infrered port on the
pc
then i go back to the today of cause leaving the
infrared receive running
and i try to beam and it works
then i open activ sync and choose connect using infrared
and ....
I have the very current asian rom. But am still having the same problems with IrDA connections. The device would refuse any transmission from the pc running XPpro. Don't know why. After installing 'Peacemaker', it worked seamlessly.
The bugging question. Why does it need an aftermarket software to run on the device where the IrDA drivers comes stock standard with microsoft?
The best part is, my old nokia7650's IrDA works flawlessly with my pc without any additional software.
IrDa = Forsaken child in this high powered enviroment?
My problem is solved
I have sent my device to my local dealer and it was repaired with my waranty certificate. In fact it was found that the IR port of my XDA II was faulty , and they replaced it !
I do not think its the IrDA being broken. Much more like the s/w driver's fault as I could get it to work with Peacemaker s/w.
Though I do not use it often, it still gets on my nerve knowing that there's a flaw in the upgraded rom. Have to wait for another 6mths before I could return to my home country and send it for a checkup. Sigh....
I could not get my xda 2 to accept beamed file from my xda, if I choose receive from ppc200/hpc on xda 2 under setting/beams, it works properly but gives a failed error even though the contact/file is copied.

ActiveSync via Bluetooth PCMCIA Pico Card not working

Judging by the number of topics on Activesync and Bluetooth a lot of people seem to be having difficulty synchronising their XDAII via Bluetooth. I am no exception.
I bought a Bluetooth PCMCIA card from eBay made by Sphinx Elektroniks (Germany) which came with Bluetooth Monitor v1.0.14 Build 1 software. See
http://www.sphinx-elektronik.de/deutsch/bluetooth/picocard_tech.htm
Whilst my XDAII and PC have bonded ok with the XDAII clearly visible in the Environment pane, it does not seem possible to either transfer files between XDAII and PC nor to get Activesync to work. There is no Activesync profile (from what I can see) in the Bluetooth Monitor software, there are only 3 "services" listed:
- SSA (this has modem symbol)
- ? OBEX Object Push
- ? Service Discovery
I have tried installing the first two on an available serial COM port, e.g. 2, 5 or 6 and then going into Activesync on the PC and trying to "Get connected" but the PC can't see the any of these ports when it looks for a mobile device. The third of the services in the list above reports an error "the service cannot be installed. SCN (service channel number) is 0". I have also tried to initiate Bluetooth connection from the XDAII, both via the Settings, System, Bluetooth Settings, Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup "Start". I have also made sure that the PC ActiveSync Connection Settings has the "allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port" is enabled but the ports 2, 5 or 6 are not visible.
So it seems I am stuck. Anyone else had similar problems or had any success with this type of Bluetooth card?
If the card supports serial profile it should work, just make sure you have not bonded with anything on your xda2, go to settings/system/bluetooth, choose the "sync by bluetooth" it will tell you to bond with a serial profile capable bt service, let it search. Make sure you are in discover mode. I have a cheap bt dongle which came with the widcomm software and I am using bluetooth to sync and I am able to surf the web anywhere in the house on my xda2. I can even use my pc as my headset and listen to the phone through the pc speakers and use the mic to speak to the phone.
I just checked that site and it seems that your card does support serial profile so it should work. If it has the bluetooth wizard you need to set up all the protocols that you will be using first.
Hi cruisin-thru,
Yes I saw your earlier post about your success with your cheap Bluetooth dongle. I'm glad you got it working.
Sadly, I've already tried your suggested method but when I do the Settings/System/Bluetooth Settings and click the "Start" button for Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup (which is what I assume you are referring to) it comes up with the error message "Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner!". When I click ok it goes to the Bluetooth mode screen (which shows "Discoverable" still. I can only conclude that my Pico card is not compatible with ActiveSync or serial port modes.
My XDAII synchronises fine by USB and IrDA but Bluetooth would be good for surfing, as you know.
Rafil.
You definitely have the serial profiles activated on your pc??
Dear Cruisin-thru,
Thanks for your help on this subject but the Pico card & software I have just don't work with the XDAII. There is no way to do the serial port profiles in a way that the XDAII can see it. I have decided to abandon the Pico card and to go for the dongle that you recommended. For the benefit of all XDAII users who want to sync by Bluetooth, cruisin-thru kindly supplied the following link on eBay for the USB Bluetooth dongle that does work:
http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI...blue-future&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50
Regards -- Rafil.
Here is a link to the software I am using with the dongle.

Make sure the dongle is unplugged until you get the prompt. Make sure previous software is removed also.

"how to" view internet pages using bluetooth

Thanks to the last chap who told me to use activesync to view web pages using bluetooth.. the problem is "How" to get it to do that.. I have a little bluetooth dongle on the pc but they don't seem to talk to each other even though they are bonded.. and precisely how do i view an internet page using bluetooth
Do you tyhink it may be a bluetooth compatiblilty issue.. I've heard that maybe a different dongle and driver may do the trick?
The Idiot's guide would be much appreciated!!!

Hi,
I downloaded the Bluetooth application ("fix") from here:
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
Then Bluetooth works perfectly with my 3com PCMCIA card in the laptop.
I now only do ActiveSync via Bluetooth with one exception - when I want to send music via Windows Media to the Imate I have to use the cradle or cable because the bluetooth appears to the laptop as a serial link and the Windows Media does not support serial devices.
I can also use internet on the Imate via ActiveSync and bluetooth - although generally I stick to the laptop for that !
Regards, Dave
Thanks but unfortunately the fix doesn't bring up a web page anymore.. what is it that your suggested fix is fixing? AArrghhh! Can someone please come to the house and sort it out!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi again,
This bluetooth fix allows a simple connection from PC to Imate via ActiveSync and Bluetooth. It does not address internet issues.
Have you tried connecting the Imate/XDA2 to a PC with cable or cradle and then used Internet ?
It could be that your problem is not with Bluetooth - have you tried the Connection settings ? or, have you check the ActiveSync settings on the Imate.
Rgds, Dave
I probably understood your problem. You can't connect your Xda via ActiveSync via bluetooth.
First..assure the 2 Bluetooth devices are on discoverable mode.
Then go into your Pocket Pc START-Settings-System-Blueooth settings-tap to Bluetooth ActyveSync setup[start]
Select Discoverable mode and Tap in Bonded devices and NEW..
So..wait and Select your pc.
Then you will pair your pc with Pda.
Inserted the same code on 2 devices you probably can connect to ActiveSync via bluetooth.
Simply go in your Pocket pc,START-ActiveSync-Tools-Connect via bluetooth.
If this not help, try to set the right port on your PC ActiveSync-File-Connection Settings-COM1-2...etc..
Contact me if problems seems unsolved

Problem with bluetooth usb dongle

Hello. I have an Audiovox SMT 5600 running wm6 from The Great Andot.
Two days ago, I bought a bluetooth usb dongle, but I can't see the PC from the phone. I also can't add COM ports (incoming or outgoing) on the phone.
When I try to "Connect via Bluetooth" from the phone's Activesync, it takes me to the "Add new device..." app, and when I search, nothing is found.
On windows I can see the phone, and I can even access the shared folder, but when I try to transfer a file, the connection is lost in the middle.
The chipset is a Broadcom 2035 (Device id 0A5C:2035)
I tried from a nokia phone and could add my pc perfectly from the phone.
Something a little disturbing is that the dongle's address is 00:00:00:00:00:00.
Has anyone had this problem? Tried to activesync with wm6 through bt?
I also tried with wm5 with no luck.
Is there any way to change the BT stack in the phone?
Thanks!!!
Mariano

Infrared problem

Hello all.
I have now problem with IrDA port,so I cannot send/receive files and the device freezes itself while attempts to send file via IrDA(Resco Explorer). My notebook couldn't recognize my Himalaya nearby, but recognizes another one(running WM5) without problem. Now I am a bit unlucky, because I cannot connect to ActiveSync via USB(something goes wrong during this weekend and the computer couldn't recognize the USB device),via IrDA is it also impossible due described problems with IrDA above and connection via BT is not working as well, because of known reason.
Has someone discovered same problems with IrDA as me? How to fix that?
Thanks in advance.
did you set auto recieve all beams in settings connections ?
