Vodafone V1640 ROM error - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Not being a pc/phone buff I wondered if any of you guys can help me?
I bought a Vodafone V1640 that had O2 software on it. Firstly is this ok? Should it have had Vodafone software on it? Second, I sold the phone on eBay beause it did not match my needs or critera and now the person that bought it is saying there is a ROM error showing and that I had originally bought a duff phone. This I cannot understand, as when I received the phone, I charged it and made sure that it was in perfect working ordered. This was over a peroid of about 2-3 hours and no error showed on the phone what so ever. It actually came sealed as if it had come straight from Vodafone as an upgrade maybe.
I cannot understand why this error messgae is now showing and upon asking an IT collegue at work he has suggested that this person had maybe tried to load new software on to the phone therefore the ROM error being apparent.
Does anyone have any idea why the phone may only now be showing this error? I can assure you all that I did nothing to the phone as it was only out of the box for a few hours before I decided that it wasn't for me.
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.

what error is showing.
i have a vodafone unit, but have flashed various roms without problems.
i am currently on the latest i-mate.

Hi Steve
Thanks for replying.
I've got no idea what kind of ROM error is showing on the item as it is no longer in my possession. I am trying to contact my eBay buyer to find out exactly what message is showing and when.
What exactly is a ROM error anyway? As I stated previously, the phone was on for btween 2-3 hours and showed no signs of soft/hard ware damage. How do Rom error's occur?
Sorry to sound so vague and amateurish!!

I am no expert and have only been playing with these things for 9 months, but the only time I have ever seen ROM error is when i have been trying to flash a different ROM to my device, e.g the imate version to my vodafone machine.
Ask him what he did, what the error says and what he can see on the screen.Read the guide to installing a ROM and you can see what happens.
ROMs for specific versions such as imate will not flash to others such as vodafone unless you use a specific .exe file (the no id upgrade one).
If you try you will get an error, and sometimes you can get the machine up and running, other times you get a brick which can take time to get back to life.

All steps to solve 1% error FAILED

Hello ,
I have tryed all the recomended steps to avoid 1% error in RSU flashing procedure but still no success.
Let me tell you the story : after unsuccesful upgrade of radio part I have followed the recomadation foud in the forum but no one was available for me I supposed
1 I have flashed the ROM ( boostrap mode from SD ) with all new version from O2, AT&T, Qtek and T-mobile
2 after each flash procedure I have copyed on the SD the repair flash files ( autorun and RSUpgrade.sa.CAB ) which determine my device going in the RS upgrading procedure. Guess what? every single time was stoped in 1% status. I have tryed with or without sim card
3 I have erased the files from start-up and from windows folder that are linked to the application and I have copyed them again from an unpacked archive or from allready unpacked instalation kit. FAILURE
4 Battery is fully charged. I have tryed to flash with or without charging cable conected. NO DIFFERENCE.
Maybe there is a chance to flash it trough boostrap menu in the GSM ROM to SD submenu ? I just think that if is possible to back-up, somehow should be a way to put a SD card with the specific file on it and flash the radio part in the boostrap mode.
Is there anyone can help me?
thank you in advance
I am in the same boat and received an email from one of our XDAdevelopers a few days ago saying that he never tried to 'create' any GSM ROM and that he was not sure if it was possible to flash the GSM ROM through the SD method.
BTW, how did you actually manage to charge your battery? You mentioned in other thread that you used the 'external' batt connector to charge. Is this correct. THere are three tabs on the connector at the back of the device, could you please specify which tab for the positive/ negative/ ground plug?
Thanks...
the connector
Here is the connector and the connections for battery charge.
Also I think I have realise what we did wrong and why we are not able to fix the problem like the other from the forum did allready.
The problem is that when I got the 1% error first time, instead of following the steps described by the members in the forum ( I dint know at that time ) I have hard reset the device ( the small button in the right ) which determin perhaps erasure of an important part of XDA flash memory.
I will study the Jtag connections and the way it can be flashed trough that option and I let you know.
I will appreaciate if you wlil share with me any thread in the forum that might help us to fix it.
Also you can contact me over the ICQ with offline messages if you cannot see me online.
I saw you want to send your device to sombody knowing how to to fix it.
I let you know about I can or not and we can talk about your own.
Thanks,
Silviu C
Many thanks for the information.
I did not hard re-set when I had the failure for the first time. Here's what I did (I hope this would serve as a WARNING to other member NOT to make the same mistake as us):
1. I downloaded the new TMobile ROM4.01.00 suggested in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4043
I knew that TMobile is for GSM900/1900, but noticed that some members said that it was okay since what we wanted to do is to flash the PDA / CE ROM not the GSM ROM part.
2. I installed the ROM sucessfully and everything was working fine. As I checked the device information after flashing I noticed that the ID has chacnged to 10B meaning 900/1900. So, I continued browsing and ended up in the Phone options and I noticed the phone band options showed 900 and 1900 (not 1800). Then I made a MISTAKE by leaving the 1900 option "checked" and accidentally clicked OK (clumsy hands).
THen the phone stopped working.
3. After soft resetting, the booting up procedure was still showing normal signs (i.e. all ROM, Radio Stack and Protocol versions were shown in the splash screen). But the phone still did not work.
4. Then another mistake I made was "reflashing" the Radio GSM ROM!!
Should I have gone to the bootloader and changed the GSM band from there, I might not have had this problem. As the RSUpgrade.exe was running , then the device got stuck in the 1% screen of death. But I was not panicking as I remembered that there were many sucessful stories about this problem in this forum. (I have playing in this forum since last Sept). So , I started checking the threads and then tried to repeat the procedures but without any luck.
Since then I had different other problem with flashing the device. At one point there was only the bootloader on the device (no splash screen etc.) But I managed to downgrade the bootloader to 5.15 (from 5.17).
Codectelecom: I will keep you updated with any findings both on and off lines. I added your ICQ into my contact.
TOday I talked to the distributor of the device in Bangkok, THailand and the same thing happened as yesterday (talking to the shop): they could not do anything and insisted that flashing the ROM can be done by the user. THey did not even give me a chance to "show" what the problem actually is.
MY ADVICE TO EVERYONE who wants to upgrade any ROMs. PLEASE READ this FORUM THOUROUGHLY and try to follow the discussions, always trust the xda developers guys: FLASHING ROM is DANGEROUS!!!!!
You have a good chance of turning your 'precious' HTC shiny PPCPE into a 'brick'.
codectelecom: Please kindly keep me updated with the JTAG. As you might have noticed, I am not a 'techie' with electronic stuff.
I agree with you that there must be some corrupted files in one of our devices' ROMs. One indication is that the device could sense wheteher power is plugged in. ALso the battery monitoring functions is not working.
SOrry, I missed one point:
After getting stuck in the 1% screen, then of course I pressed OK and then the radio stack and protocol versions were gone in the splash screen and when I checked the bootloader it showed GSM ERROR.
Andhy, thx so much for sharing this experience and hope we learned something from it. One question here that I hope one of the developers will answer: is there any way to hide the "Band" tap in phone settings ??
I have it now on my XDA since I replaced the main board with a TMO one that has tri-band feature, but my network is only 900/1800, and I don't want to go in such mistake (ticking the 1900 box).
Any ideas ???
Biso007: I have no answer to your questions re: hiding the band tab, and hope that our xda-developers or other experts would entertain us in this thread. I remember there are another one or two guys (other that codectelecom and me) in this forum who also have not been able to get out of the 1% screen of death.
THis forum has grown very rapidly, that it's becoming difficult to find 'good' informations quickly. So many new members keep posting the same question over and over again without atempting to "read" the forum thoroughly (you can tell this thing by the questions that they asked).
BTW, you mentioned about replacing the main board with a TMO one that has tri-band feature. Where did you do it and how much did it cost you?
I was thinking to 'replace' the GSM ROM or the phone part and already started looking in the PDA junk local market. Hoping to find a broken xda with a working phone part
As I said, even the importer here did not want to help. All I asked was to send the device to the factory or some service centre outside the country. I was willing to pay all charges, but they just did not want to help. ...some people....
andhy: I bought a used XDA from one of my good friends who got it from US. Its screen was broken, so I took its main board and it's pretty good. I 'm sure you can find 100s like this since this lovely device is soooooo fragile :x

Spontaneous "No Service" message on M1000 despite

Hi all,
I've got an Orange SPV M1000, and have had it for around a week now with only a couple of problems. A quick Unlock and a ROM flash from the XDAII's latest image on the O2 site solved them all.
However yesterday at around 2pm, my phone simply stopped working as a phone! It was attached to my belt, so I don't know if there was anything on screen to signify this occurance, but now I can't get the bloody thing to work! I've tried flashing to 2003SE (Wrong country code despite xda2nbftool), and now an unaltered Orange image, but still no signal.
Is there an easy way to see if the previous owner has reported the phone stolen? Is there anything else I can try accept a ROM upgrade?
Thanks all.
Current ROM details:
1.66.00WWE
1.10.00
1337.18
1.66.230
The details in my signature were prior to this problem and worked fine.
Upgraded back to O2 software, details as in signature.
Still no luck.

Help - XDAII with an SD-502 GPS receiver

I recently bought an SD-502 receiver for my XDAII and have no end of trouble since. I was hesitant to buy it given the compatibility problems but latest compatibility lists say that it has been tested and works. Long story short, COM 7: which is supposed to be assigned to GPSUART as per GPS PPC websites is absent and I cannot find any way to add it. I have upgrade from WM2003 1.60 to 1.72 and there was no change.
Further to this, I have downloaded the WM2005 upgrade in the hope that It would recognize the device but now I can't load any version of WM withouth the Himaupgrad.exe saying that there was 'a problem during upgrade'.
Thanks to anyone who chooses to help.
Can you be more specific about this 'problem during upgrade'?
That's what Himaupgrad.exe calls it... verifies the ID of the pda and then you click yes to upgrade and it goes to the screen where it clears the current rom and loads the 3 new ones and instead of doing that, after about 30 secs it just says there was a problem during upgrade and says to soft start the pda, which I have tried with no success. I have tried many combinations of Radio, Ex Rom and Rom without luck. I have even tried the original upgrade package that is already on there which I downloaded from the UK o2 site and that gives the same error. So I figure it is something to do with the PDA not the upgrades.
Again, any help is much appreciated!
Thanks jamil

Please some body answer

I own a universal o2 xda exec purchased from uk. It has been working greatly for about 8 month (on another SIM provider) without any troubles.
Suddenly it receives no signal, the phone doesn't seem to see the SIM, I can't enen access the phone settings.
After performing a soft reset I checked the device information and found that radio version & protocol version are BLANCK noyhing is written, also the IMEI number doesn't exist, nothing is written.
I tried to install a new ROM but it didn't work, I got an error message about my ROM image that is not compatible with my country code!!!!!!
I've been advised to reinstall the WM5????

did u try hard resetting the phone? try installing the rom with a RUU with no_ID
have a look on this page, this may give you additional info;
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Can you briefly describe how you did the ROM reinstallation (names of the files you opened, source, etc.)? You shouldn't be seeing the country code error message with the NO_ID installer.
have a look on this link;
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Instructions for those with Country Code error
You mentioned something about a problem with the radio stack. I tryed to install a No_ID rom and the system stopped at the radio stack update step.
So is it a hardware that has to be changed or exactly what?
and what has the radio stack to do with the IMEI no not appearing.
Sorry for disturbance but I 'm seeking any help
