Speaker Volume, how can I turn this up? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey guys, i've been doing a couple searches but it doesn't seem like I've been able to find the answer I was looking for. How can I turn up the phones earpiece volume? (ie. the speaker at the top of the phone in between the blinking lights for incoming/outgoing calls).
I tried editing everything outlined in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41273&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
without any luck other than getting my ringtones and media volumes to play louder.
I also found another thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42246&highlight=sound+vol - that asks the same questions without any results.
Can this be done? I hope so because during calls the volume is just too low for my tastes, even with the slider up to the highest setting.
Thanks.

Same problem here

Same here the volume on this thing is terrible. Speaker phone is useless as well. I used to use a program on my treo called volume care wish there was something like this for the MDA, the only way i can hear it at all in the car is with my bluetooth and everything turned up to max.
there has to be some sort of fix for this.

Hack to increase earpiece volume on JAM?

Has anyone found a hack to increase the speaker volume when holding the JAM to your ear. My hearing is not good at all...remember when mom used to say "turn that music down, you'll go deaf" turns out the old girl was right.
The volume on the JAM seems even lower to me since doing the latest ROM update. There must be a registry setting to increase the volume. I've not seen anything that jumps out, but I'm willing to bet that there is a way.

low earpiece volume
hi paragon,
I fully support your criticism about the poor audio level at max setting. There must be sufficient potential in increasing the audio level since there is the loudspeaker function available.
Now 2 people are waiting desperately for a solution by a honourable specialist which allows for an icrease of the basic volume setting.

Well, the speakerphone on this thing isn't actually isn't any louder than the regular earpiece!
did anyone find a solution to this one?? I hope it's not the old change the rom to 1.12? I'm happy so far with 1.06 apart from the low front speaker volume.
Phil
i'm using 1.12 and i struggle to hear ppl as well. i ran by this app earlier today on i forgot which site that says its the ultimate hack tool. i'll browse through my histor and see if i find it and figure out if it can increase the volume.
Unfortunately it's generally considered that it's not possible to activate speakerphone programmatically, which will mean that automatically switching to speakerphone isn't going to help too much.
I tried setting up a profile to turn the volume down to a reasonable level, and then activate speakerphone and use that as the earpiece. That way the screen doesn't get sweaty and you've got better sound straight to the ear. However, some people on the other end of the line say the recieved sound isn't so great. I don't see why it should be any worse. Play around with AGC in the settings panel. Anyone else care to report on this idea?
V
i found the app, its tweaks2k2net unfortunately nothing with earpiece volume... and about the using the speakerphone instead, i've had ppl complain that they cant hear my clearly as well.. is the mic also bad on this phone?

better volume control on the call

hi guys,
just got my new x1. I am familiar with WM and HTC as I have spent almost whole summer playing with Kaiser so x1 is nothing new to me. however, the first thing which i have noticed is that the volume during call in x1 is just too loud although it's set to minimum. Kaiser wasn't that loud. so, the thing is that I am bit of suffering when i need to talk to someone as the volume is too loud and I can hear "beeeeep" in my ear. crap, isn't it?
do you guys by any chance know if there is any way to change the speaker volume while on the call so that it's not as loud as it is now? is there any plugin allowing user to better control the volume of the interlocutor?
any thoughts will be highly appreciated!
Thanks
no ideas? does that mean I am the only one suffering from this issue? :/
during calling just presse up-down hardware button on upside of the x1
in normal operation they set system/ring volume, during phone operation they set the speaker call volume
I have the same problem. I have set the volume to the lowest possible setting yet it is still loud. I would expect the lowest possible setting to be mute.
Is there anyway of getting it so that the volume bar works in a more sensible way?
*bump*
Anything on this? I can't keep my phone on my ear when i'm talking with someone. Have to keep a few cm's distance or my head splits. Call volume is at minimum..
hey there. first post on the forum but i've been reading for a few weeks already and finally bought an Xperia.
Anyway, I have the same problem as you guys: even on the lowest setting, volume is still too loud during a call. I've looked accross the net and didn't find any relevant info on how to solve this does anyone have any idea on how that would be solvable ? registry trick or something ?
thanks in advance
hmmm, my situation is totally different. My X1i volume during call is set to maximum and it's too quiet for me. When I'm outside, on the street I can't hear person hanging on the other side. At home, when it's quiet it's all ok.
My ears are quite good , I've tested them 2 months ago.
If you guys have already tried what webguitar mentions above, then i think you may have a problem with your specific handset
There are a couple of threads in the forum about ways to increase volume ...but I've certainly not seen anything suggesting its too loud
Have been using mine since November and never found the volume to be too high

Same here...but using SRS Wow HD i managed to get louder sound.
well, of course i've used the side rocker -_-
it's just that i feel that instead of adjusting between
quiet - - - - - - - - - - loud
it seems more like it adjusts between
normal - - - - - - - - - loud
again, i'm talking about the volume during a call, not for the speaker or the system sound.
it isn't that loud if you are in a noisy environement, but when i'm sitting in the silence of
my room... it just feels loud. i never had such a problem with any previous phones o_o
and various changes in HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\ doesn't seem to change anything
so i was thinking, maybe there is a "minimum volume value" setting somewhere...
Nocturnal310, D-fens, please do not throw the topic off course
Definitely there IS a issue with the volume being FAR too loud on the lowest setting (this is 20% for me)
I'm embarrassed to talk on the phone in the office, as everyone within five meters hear both sides of my conversation and asks if I'm deaf. I'm not! It's the bloody phone!
Is there a way to set the speaker volume to less than 20% (5% for example)?

some questions about customization...

hi there!
i just got my hd last week and i played around with it only a little with help and advise from a friend whos active here on the board...
still i have some questions about some things i was unable to solve:
1.) the sound of my phone while playing music via earplugs is way too loud. while 20% were set as default when switching the phone on in the first place, setting the volume to 1 or 2% still is too loud for me. how can i adjust the sound volume to a more "normal" level? (meaning that i can set the volume to ~5% as "hard to hear anything" and 100% as "extreme loud"). don't get me wrong. i like loud music but this is definitly too much... using the slide2play-player is sth like a workaround for this since it comes with a seperate volume controller but this isn't a real solution...
2.) how do i set the sound volume via the side-buttons in SMALL steps? like 2% per click. clicking up or down once in/decreases the volume by ~20%. this is no way to use this. especially combined with problem #1...
3.) this is nothing software-related, but i'm searching for a (wired) headset for my touch hd with a control on it to adjust the volume, control the music player (play, pause, next and last track), take and end calls. like the hpm-82 for sony-ericsson handys. important: in-ear-plugs! searched around a bit, but found nothing...
noone here with an idea?
For me was also very loud, but now i'm using WMP with which also i can adjust loudness.....But with any player and you can adjust with it....
for #1: is there a "general" volume setting (somewhere hidden in windows) i can adjust?
there are some tweaks in advanced config which help you BOOST the volume but for decreasing it i dont know. anyway about #2 it's an issue that i would like to see solved as well... i somewhat managed to sortof workaround it by invoking the menu screen with the volume hardkeys and then tapping on the desired volume level directly with finger. of course it's all but handy, still it works.

Sound level during calls

I dont know what I am doing wrong but I find the sound level extremely poor for calls
I tried with a bluetooth headset, the outside speaker and the jack with my mp3 headset
it's pretty weird since when I play videos or music I am impressed by how loud I can push the Tab...
I am on AT&T with JMC (but was the same on JM6). And I set the sound at max
anybody has the same issue? Am I doing something wrong? Or is there any sound booster app for calls? (and is it necessary?)
Thanks for your help
My Tab isn't phone-enabled, but since you're new to Android, I thought I should point out that there are multiple volume settings, and in-call volume is one of them. Menu Key -> Settings -> Sound Settings -> Volume should give you all the sliders (Ringtone, Media, Alarm, System, Notification...). There are apps/widgets too that let you get to/change these settings without having to go into the settings menu every time (audio manager has been a decent widget for me). Until you're actually in the call the hardware rocker is usually doing the ringtone or media volume.
When I use mine with Skype 60% is usually blaringly loud for me, and I don't even have the system or media volume maxed out.
Sorry if it's something you know you've done, but thought it might help. If not, maybe someone else has had the same issue and solved it.

yes this I had figured out and set at the maximum
Everything non call related is really strong... It's conversation from normal calls that is ridiculously low
Am I the only one ?? What's wrong with my tab ?
Anyone with an opinion about this ?
Voice-enabled on AT&T with JM6. Have good results with the built-in speakers and cheap Nokia BH-214 stereo Bluetooth earbuds. I ordered the OEM earbuds, but I do understand that the 3.5mm jack port in finicky. Is your Bluetooth 2.1 or newer? Do you have many open applications when trying to place or receive calls? I've notice the sound stutter a bit on the speakers when I've got several apps open.
Here's something I noticed, when in call using my BT Headset, the volume slider sometimes says its on max but the output isnt. Try to lower or increase your volume. Once you hear the max level beep, it gets louder.
Im on a SingTel Tab by the way.

Edit: yeah I can definitely reduce the volume but my max was my actual max. As anybody tried to compare the volume on the speaker when playing music whith the volume on the speaker when on a call... It's like 5 to 10 times higher volume on a call !! And then same issue on a headset

As mentioned I tried it with everything I could... The default external speaker, a simple stereo headset (Not bluetooth), a bluetooth headset. They all give the same. Low volume
If you don't like volume in speaker, headset, bluetooth....You can change settings in "hidden" Audio menu. There you can change volume of individual ouput, but be careful!!!!!
Before change anything, make sure you can put it back the same number if you are not satisfied or have problem ..so wright it somewhere anything you wish to change.
Good Luck with experiment. If I remember correctly(from my old Samsung i780-Windows phone) "TX" settings is for output and "RX" for imput, but I can be wrong, so be careful.

what I do is, when in a call, I lower the volume by about 2, then increase it until i hear the max volume beep. The moment i hear it, the volume on my headset usually jumps up.
I have the same problem with the speaker volume. At maximum you cannot hear it. The bluetooth seems to work OK. IIRC JK5 software seemed to work correctly.

So I guess for you too, music or movies play with a high volume on the speakers whereas for calls it's rather low volume ?
Yes bluetooth or headset I can hear but still quite low volume compared with music...

My problem is specifically for calls. Anything else is fine and working well. That's the weird issue... I dont want to boost the volume for anything else!
That's pretty weird... I have been playing with the tab and I found out that for calls, the highest level I can have (by hear) is two notches below the highest. That's by far the loudest I get (If I push higher the sound decreases)
Am I the only one ? It really pisses me off.... I don't know how it can be like that (I am on JMC ROM after flashing a JM6 ROM over the JK5 from Russia (I am on an AT&T Tab flashed to get phone working)
Someone else get the same experience ?
I can confirm that the max 'in call' volume is two notch below the max !!! And I have the same tab/setting of the OP.
Aren't there some codes you can enter to adjust the volume level on calls and music, etc.?? like the Galaxy S?

Thanks ! Ina sense I am a littel bit relieved to see I am not the only one !
Such a stupid bug. Come on Samsung...
FYI it is fixed with the firmware JME
Sound level is much more acceptable and the highest level is not anymore two notched below the max

[Q] Has the focus audio volume issues been sorted out yet?

Tried to ask in another thread but it was kinda off topic.
Last I knew people were playing with diagnostic codes but there was no consensus on what did or did not work.
Audio from the headphone jack and seemly the blue tooth was too quiet.
Is this still an issue?
Is that a no?
In all truth, i don't use the bluetooth. But i just checked my headphones, and they sound OK. My sony earphones work great on the phone. I did d/l that one app... Media Volume Settings and set the volume all the way to 100...that may be what is making mine work better. Hope this helps!
haven't tried Bluetooth...
But when i tried headphones it was waay to loud even at 1.
I don't know how to lower the volume using codes.
You should look through the diagnostics codes thread. It has some stuff about sound changes in there as well as some of the registry tweaks you should look up if you're unhappy enough with it to need to change something.
Funkadube: I did and couldn't seem to get any reliable change. Plus having to redo it everytime I restarted the phone seemed crazy.
I know when I had mine the volume level out of the head phone port was NOT loud enough when hooked to my car radio even though every other phone I've ever had was. You'd have to goto MAX VOLUME to get it very loud and if it was a quiet song or something not at loud (I'm staring at YOU SLACKER RADIO) then you could barely get it listenable.
I then installed Bluetooth module into the car and had the same issue with it also.
I'd wish I knew someone with one I could test IRL to see if its still a problem. I'd love to switch back to WP7...
Is there a way to boost the out-of-call Bluetooth volume on the Samsung Focus? Between builds 7712 and 7720, the Bluetooth volume for voice dial responses, TellMe, and text-to-speech were drastically reduced and now they are so low that I can't hear them with the phone turned all the way up to 30/30. I used to use the phone at 20/30 with my car's Bluetooth without a problem on 7712 and 7390. Has anyone else noticed this change since upgrading to 7720?
I didn't see other people complaining about the volume in the accessories thread.
I also have a bt headset and works fine for me.

I have a Bluetooth headset and it isn't as bad with the headset. But the text-to-speech is still significantly lower than call volume. In fact, the real issue is that there's a huge imbalance between the out-of-call volume and in-call volume with Bluetooth headsets in 7720.
As I mentioned before, when the phone is paired to the car I can turn the phone up to 30/30 from 20/30, but I still have to boost the volume from the car side about 5 levels higher when I'm out-of-a-call to get any decent level of audio out of the phone. The problem then is that when I take a call it is way too loud and I have to rush to turn down the volume on the car side. It makes the use of the feature so inconvenient that I've just turned it off. While I would be perfectly content with Microsoft returning volume levels to what they were since 7004, I'd just as readily use the Samsung Diagnostic app to make the adjustment myself, if it is possible. I'm looking for any remedy at this point.
Text-to-speech was the feature I was looking forward to the most in Mango, and now it's the only feature of the OS I can't use. I can't express how frustrated and disappointed I am that this has happened, and I just can't understand why this change was made. I've seen no reports of anyone ever complaining that the volume was too loud before 7720. It's one thing if I was seeking a feature that wasn't implemented, but it is implemented and it's broken. I just wish there was some solution or recourse to make it usable again.
