SD cards... what the maximum? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

So i was just wondering whats the highest storage the xda will take? i was thinking of buying a 4gb SD card you know if this would work on the exec/universal?

I saw somewhere last weekend that Sandisk is comming out with 8GB MiniSD cards.

The 4GB card works just fine on my Universal. I love it, never have to swap it out for a different one.
The only issue I've heard about (but isn't an issue for me) is that the camera won't let you save pictures to the card unless you have at least 2GB filled up. It's an issue with the way the camera application was written.

Does that ROM include the goofy battery indicator and jumping clock? I've avoided upgrading the ROM because 1) I don't really have any problems with the way it's running now, 2) I like the clock to stay where it is and 3) I don't need a battery indicator since I have Batti. Sort of a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
It's good to know they fixed it at least the camera thing though, thanks!

huh?
Dude the new rom is much quicker than old ones.

is the new ROM really quicker or is it the fact that installing 'any' ROM again and giving your decide a nice hard reset and wiping all other programs would speed up or make it appear as things are running faster?

I think it MAY be more that, but hey, the new rom has brilliant A2DP, AVRCP, and Push Email!

My Universal is plenty fast enough as is. None of the new ROM's bells and whistles are really that important to me, so I'm just going to keep it as is.
I think we've gotten a little off track and hijacked the "SD maximum" thread!

This was an April Fool's joke....
Sandisk, as good as their cards may be, are usually one of the last to release big cards.
I've not heard rumours of 4gb miniSDs let alone the 8gb.

SD-which one?

Morning all,
Which SD card I should buy? So many on the market.. At this moment I'm interested in 1gb - but..
many different speeds, many different brands...
And prices.
Oh, and thos new SD ULTRA II- Faster, better?
I'm so confused- please, tell me!
So, guys: WHICH ONE SD CARD for my EXEC should I buy?
Thank you for any recomendations!
Cheers!
No one can point me to the right direction?
I don't mind spending a little bit more for better-faster product BUT I don't want to buy something which my EXEC wan't use correctly
Thanks in advance
Cheers!
Chris
this is kinda related to another post i replied to.
when i was using a 512 sandisk; the storage indicator said i had 480mb-plus free space...but when i loaded files i found out i could only put in up to 380-plusmb. the same happened to a bud's card; he was using kingston and same problems were there.
i now use 1gig toshiba and panasonic cards; i can store files up to 980-plus. no problems since then...

One more question- are they fast? Can you watch movies? Are they draining battery quickly?
I'd like to buy FAST SD card, best on the market (top shelve) which also wan't drain my bat. too quicly (as I'm frequent flayer)...
Thanks!
Chris
benchsmarks i've seen show that no pda's SD interface can keep up with the fastest card in these cases having a faster card only help when one use it in an usb2 sdcard reader
pocketmechanics have both benchmark tools and other results you can compare yours with
All SD cards should use about the same battery power, if they vary at all it won't be noticible in the real world.
Personally I'd go for storage over speed, I have an ADATA 2GB 150X card that cost £68.50 delivered (eBay) - this is cheaper than a lot of 1GB cards and fast enough to watch even DVD VOB files (tested on my PC)
Good price for 2GB.
Thank you.
I'm going to ebay right now...
Cheers!

Interesting to know is that I did a small and unprofessionel test with Windows Media player and a 60 MB video file on my Jasjar.
Both with the relatively slow 2 GB sandisk and with the Superfast Extrem III 1 GB sandisk the viode has hickups. So I have the impression that a faster SD card won't help you.
Good luck.

I'm using a ByteStor 1GB card with no problems. I've got nothing to compare the speed with, though, and I never watch films on my Exec.

I'm a frequent flyer on short distances (like 1,5-2 hours) so ALMOST 10kg with my 15.4" with AMD64 laptop just to watch one part of A-TEAM or Friends seems to be stuipid idea. And 'coz I'm rather poor person I'm flying in eco class so my laptop is just TOO BIG for this tiny space beetwen seats (tested on RyanAir (IMHO worst line ever), WizzAir, EasyJet, Lot, Eurolot (hmm, ATR=no free space beetwen seats), FlyBe, BA, and my favorite airline LUFTHANSA - always same thing, my laptop is too big).
I've found that EXEC is ALMOST perfect replacment fo my laptop in this matter! Is slow, is wth windows- but I can kill some time on the airplain plaing games OR watch movies.
Hmm, and ofcourse I can put some MP3 on it
Regards!

I actually ran almost all roms here and returned to my usual O2 rom
I feel that my program memory gets depleted with most roms here
but they do pack some good features
the noticablle ones are
1.more SIM card utils
2.usb hdd
3.few new graphics
doesnt sound that worth it then?
Helmi AKU 3.5 v1.3 is much faster and has a bunch of useful applications built in.
Challenge anyone to prove that the stock AKU is better.
I change my mind
Ivan's AKU test 2 makes all the difference in the world
added to my list ,it also adds on a lot of speed
and a lot of program memory
I guess you must try it to really know the difference

A stock AKU can be made as fast by simply increasing the pagepool. The useful applications or Extra apps from Helmi's ROM can be simply extracted and added to a stock AKU. The stock AKU has definitely less bugs than all the new AKU3 ROMs.
So an advise I can give to any beginner is to stay away from the new AKU3 ROMs until a final release can be made. Unless, you want sleepless nights, then feel free to try the customized ROMs.
The best feature of AKU 3.x is the support for WPA2

Obviously you can add extra apps in stock AKUs. But they arent already in the stock AKUs.
The speed isnt just increased pagepool at all.

Why do you prefer AKU 3 ROM when there are a lot of bugs and the never ending memory leaks my friend?
In my own personal experience with the aku 2 and aku 3.2, I noticed that the 3.2 rom to be quicker and snapier. This is my opinion with my mda and jasjar. My mda did have problems with dropping calls but the Universal has far more stable aku3 roms and never had this problem. So far I dont have the memory leaks that I also experienced with my mda. So I'm sticking to this aku3 rom. Also my 4gb Sd card works perfectly with camera apps on Fat32 unlike the stock rom which gave me problems.
help
my xda universal o2 exec is stuck in serial mode. i downloaded the aku 3.2 and the mega tool then i clicked one of the files in the mega tool thats suppose to help run it on the universal and my phone just whent to this mode it says serial at the top and v1.00 at the bottom
I think your bootloader has to be at least 1.01 to upgrade to 3.2 rom.

Okay, let me say first that you have won our little banter having spelled 'friedn' correctly.
However, I must say that I havent found any memory leaks in Helmi's aku3.5 v1.3 despite the reports of some others. But thats my own experience so far since its release.
It really has been considerably faster both in boot up and running than previous aku versions I have tried.
There are some bugs, its true. The only one I have encountered is that I cant get an internet connection using the 'hayes compatable' modem feature any more. But Im not sure if its due to a bug or due to me forgetting the settings. Other than that, I havent come across any others, though one or two are recognised.

We are all friends here, but this is my experience. I have about close to 70 apps installed in my 4GB SD Card formatted to FAT32 and 16 apps to my internal memory. Now all works 100% as it should be on the stock ROM. Something which I can't achieve in any AKU3 ROMs that had been released. I have no memory leaks, again something that I have always experienced with the AKU3 ROMs especially after I have installed a lot of apps. Now to me, if a ROM can't support that many apps to run without any hitch or problems, then there is a problem with stability. So, I was just curious why you stated that AKU3 ROMs are better. I hope I did not make you feel antagonized by any of my post, I was just curious.
Yes, boot-up is slower in official AKU2 ROM, but I had my device set to perform an automatic reset after a backup at 5am so it is ready to go when I wake up and cleared of any junk to be be used for the day. To me boot-up time is not important as I have no need to soft reset in the middle of the day, unless testing a new app.
When I test any ROM, even the elluded XXXXXbow, I start from scratch with nothing installed and install and check each app one by one and watch the stability of the ROM to run the app.

What ROM version allows for 8gb micro sd

Does anyone know? I don't want to order a card just for it not to work. I have ROM version 2.14.671.3 with alltel.

Well, call clarity can really have to do more with the radio version you are running, but generally speaking, call clarity is great. The internal and external speaker work fine, so playing video's and music are great. The only crappy part is the processsor speed is a little on the sluggish side, but there is a program called battery status which lets you overclock which helps out some. Personally, I would love to have the HTC diamond, but I don't have 700 bucks for it! There are a lot of custom roms in this forum that help with the speed and stability. Hope this helps.

Hey Xda Gang, what are the chances...

That when a stable android build is out for the HD2, it will be able ot run on the internal memory with NO windows mobile at all, and not kill the battery? i just wnat to make sure that i will not have to run the build of my sd card for ever.

what (IYHO) would be a "while"?
I wouldnt like to even guess at how long because my knowledge of the whole android thing is very small, its not really something that interests me to be honest......
From what Ive been reading the newer builds are coming on in leaps and bounds but at the end of the day the HD2 is built to be a WM device, android will never run as efficiently and as stable as it would on an android handset....
Of course its going be fun to play around with but I dont think it will ever be able to replace the original os........
It sounds like you'd probably be better off with a desire / evo.........

I should think it would be stable and you may well be able to flash it to the internal ROM, or at least have a dual boot option. Personally I have no interest in running Android on my HD2, despite tinkering with it already.
I have my eye on the 'Desire HD'.

I have never tried Android, but I do like WM 6.5.x a lot, but it's well on the way out now. I'll be gunning for an Android phone next I think, and the 'Desire HD' looks like it will fit the bill nicely.
When I was considering the HD2 or the Android, the main reason I chose the HD2 was because of WM6.5. Despite all the bad impression, WM is still fairly stable for me. Furthermore, you can only install apps onto Device Memory using Android. How many programs do you think you can get onto the Device Memory?
I have an 8gb card (standard issue) and I have no qualms installing a program and playing with it for a while, and don't need to worry about memory becoming too low...
