I am so amazingly happy since I made the switch from Universal to Wizard.
The Universal, whilst clearly higher spec, more powerful, more impressive screen etc - was an unusable bit of kit. I battled and battled and battled - I wanted this 'superior' equipment to serve me well. I upgraded and tested various ROMs, tried every minor registry tweak and software trick known to man. Despite everyone in the Universal forum saying it *was* possible to get a solid, fast, reliable setup - I battled hard but never got close. It was still impossible to do the important little things like make or receive calls reliably, perhaps with one hand.
The Wizard is a proper phone - you can hold it between your ear and shoulder whilst stirring pasta with one hand and sipping vodka in the other.
The Wizard has proper buttons, ones that get used. The Universal had a multitude of useless buttons on the side that got pressed by accident thereby hanging Windows so that when you wanted to actually do something you may as well reset. The Universal had stereo speakers for God's sake. STEREO SPEAKERS? Does anyone else see the stupidity of such a thing? The whole point of stereo is that one channel feeds sound to one ear and the other channel to the other ear. What's more, the Wizard's handsfree speaker is clearer and brighter than the Universal's stereo speakers.
On the Wizard, I can make phone calls with one hand. I can pick up calls straight away, with one hand - I press the button and I'm talking immediately. With the Universal, not so. It's a long process involving three steps, invariably failing in most cases resulting in my having to call the other person back. Useless.
Sure, the Universal has a 520MHz processor. And when it's all optimised you really can feel the speed. But frankly that processor power is wasted on the most basic and major functions: the screen flip when answering a call. With the Wizard, sometimes screen flip lags, but thankfully I don't need to wait for the screen to flip just to answer the call!
That little Wizard collapsing stylus is a gem.
Here's what I use my Wizard for. I'm sure we are all used to this amount of functionality from one device - I've had most of it for years. But finally I have something close to the perfect all-in-one, and I'm happy!

I've even experimented with streaming video from my desktop over wireless. Works a treat, can watch a whole episode of The OC.
Yes, I can get rid of my old sat nav unit, my old pda, my old phone, my ipod, my alarm clock. It's everything in one tiny but beautifully usable package. (Actually, not entirely true, see below.)
There is ONE thing I am disappointed with. I had really hoped to eliminate the need for buying myself a new ipod. I am happy with a gigabyte of music - it seems fine to copy music as and when I need it. However I connected up my lovely Shure sound isolating headphones and the quality of the sound wasn't what I had hoped for. So sad about this - good sound would have completed the perfect package. There's just too much noise on the output, and the sound is horribly mid-range distorted. Gutted.
Anyway, I had to get this all out of my system - overall I am a very happy Universal to Wizard convert.

I can confirm all that. I ditched my Universal a week ago and bought a Wizard: Its LIGHTYEARS better in ease of use., speed, etc.

Sounds right - the thing to remeber is that threse units are no laptops.... they are PDAs with phones ( not phones with PDAs if you see what I mean ).
Having swapped form a Jornada 540 I probably wont see the difrence your talking about but as a I can access most of the major features - Sat Nav / Phone / PIM I'm happy - its a portable viewer and ideal for when I am not in my own car.
Re the Ipod - doubt you'll beat that in this case - thats an Audio device - this is one that can do audio if you see what I mean.

I'm finding this a very interesting topic.
I've just switched from aHP iPaq hx4705 to a Universal and so far I have been very pleased. however the choice between the Universal and the Wizard was a difficult one for me as I wanted a connected PocketPC / Windows Mobile device as opposed to a phone with a PPC in it.
My iPaq has clearly paid for itself in 15 months and time was right for an upgrade to WM5 and full connectivity. However my decision between these two devices was clouded I had a small chance to play with the Wizard in Dixon's one day when there was no Universal to play with.
And I liked it. Small, responsive, good lucks, surprising good keyboard (I wasn't sure what to expect to be honest) - all in all very good.
However I need to run a couple of power apps - PI and Planmaker - and I wasn't sure how it would cope.
I then had a try on a Universal in a O2 shop and I liked that. Everything looked good especially the screen (smaller than my iPaq but possibly even better quality) and the general speed.
So I got to the point to go for one of these. Initial cost wasn't a big deal as I was getting it on a contract with only about £50 difference between the two. And at this price £50 isn't enough to worry about.
I've currently got a Universal and am typing this out on it now. I'm loving it but that doesn't mean that the Wizard wouldn't also suit me as well. I have another 11 days before I lose the chance to take this back and swap it and I would really like to know from those of you using the Wizard how it copes with things like Planmaker due to the processor and the smaller screen size.
What a difficult choice though?! Two great devices to choose between.
I have an xda exec and xda mini s or wizard (two separate contracts). Both brill bits of kit. I use the exec for planmaker and textmaker and the xda mini just as a bit of fun. I like gadgets. You can't fault either device. I use both equally but for different purposes. I also used to have ipaq's for years but i wanted thephone functionality. The exec makes a wonderful mini laptop and the wizard a super ppc. If you shop around you can get bothdevices on contracts which added together give you a great deal in minutes+texts etc. yet give you the devices at a bargain price.

I agree. There really are some amazing devices out there at the moment and I am really pleased to be using one of them.
At the moment I can't see me getting rid of the Universal for a Wizard but that is because I have a clear idea of what I am after in this device. The Universal I know already after a few days is meeting my full needs.
Maybe if things go well I can buy a Wizard sometime late in 2006 when I guess they will drop in price! Just don't tell the wife!
dnt regret my purchase of a wizard. hope it stands the test of time and I'm using it for a long time. I think the trick to enjoying it is to remember in reality its your phone, everything else is a bonus.
i like to have 2 or 3 devices on the go and find if u shop around u can get really good deals recooping losses later by selling the devices on.the wizard is being offered for a small price on contract and like all similar devices will hold its value so why wait.i enjoy using the exec and wizardand find both equal as regards performance and functionality.planmaker, textmaker and tom tom work great on the exec whereas i use the wizard more for the phone side.
my other half uses tom tom but finds everything else a waste of time.i always have to explain that when we broke down in france this year in the motorhome my devices came to the rescue. tom tom for navigation and the predecessor to the xda mini a magician a great way to communicate to the rescue service and to find the nearest garage for repairs etc.

The wizard really is a great piece of kit but the BIG disadvantage for me is the missing 3G radio.
We have been crying out for this type of pocket pc ever since 3G was launched and I must say the breach has been filled admirably.
Obviously size is important and having owned both (and still do) I would agree that that the universal platform is not the most stable and the last thing you want to do is take a call on the Universal whilst in public
I have managed to incorporate all the settings taken from a symbian platform handset ie Nokia 6680 and managed to use the device successfully even browsing with the '3' homepage. The security of the '3' was the most difficult to crack and I can now download the various downloads offered by the cheapest network.
I also have subscribed to the £45 package which gives you 512mb of bundled data which allows me to visit other sites now the 'garden wall' has been demolished once and for all. This really is where the universal comes into its own.
One thing I will agree with is the size prevents use as a normal handset so I use a bluetooth headset with the appopriate hacks from the wi-ki developers page.
I cant help thinking that the Universal would be a far slimmer device if they hadn't incorporated the keyboard which I find absolutely useless due to my prolonged use of the graffiti facility(far quicker to write anyway).
I look forward to a new alternative to the Universal which may do away with the keypad once and for all. This should make the device a more suitable size instead of the similarities with the old handhelds ie HP 720 and the like which I'm sure many of us remember.
I think this is crucial given that devices like the Sony Ericsson P990i are just about to be launched with 3g capability and many people will see this as a more pocketable phone/pda. Not in the same league I agree as a windows mobile 5 device but still blessed with a good email client and now of course wi-fi.
Just my personal experience but I felt necessary to post in order to even things up a little bit.

Re 3G ( and I know this is Off topic ) - is it me or is there no actual use for 3G for joe public ? Yes I can understand business use and to a certian point show off to your mates video calling but until its on all networks and all phones ( inc fixed ) in all contries its best feature wont be used... again another reason to go for the Wizard rather than Universal.

Universal is a great gadget, but it is not a usable phone. The way I see it it can be used as a small notebook, provided you don't expect too much. VGA and UMTS are great for browsing and mail. Also connected with BT mouse it can be used for Word or Excel (TextMaker and PlanMaker) and even Project. The issue is only that lack of USB Host and no Video out mean it can't be used as full laptop. So it comes down to personal preference and at least for Phone and PDA I'm going with Wizard for small notebook we'll see...

Wizzard supports EDGE, it is more than enough to do web-sirfing..
It's really interesting to see how different members use their devices-I didn't realise when i first purchased the exec that i needed a different sim card and tariff to use 3g. I think 3g is also more expensive and as other members have commented limited by network coverage and most people still having basic handsets. None of my contacts use 3g-in fact they find my interest in these amazing gadgets bemusing, eccentric...This doesn't bother me but thankgoodness there are othersout there who share my interest.
I really didn't think that the difference between 3g and a good gprs was much. i played with both in the o2 shop and couldn't think of a reason to buy the universal, although it does have a few advantages.
FYI I have a vodaphone 3g motorola 770 as my main phone (cost £90 payg) and I successfully linked the wizard to it via bluetooth and surfed at 3g speed. So I have the option if needed.
One other advantage to 3G is that in a few months you will be able to dial into video servers that will have news, television, etc going over the circuit switched network, so you'll have much more reliable and responsive service, if you're willing to use your video minutes on it.
With the new ROM, i'm glad i didn't give up my universal. It is now worlds faster WITHOUT any tweaking, and even more with tweaking.
I also had the Universal or WIzard dilema and only one factor mattered to me : SCREEN REAL ESTATE!

The universal with the latest O2 rom is working super. With the next rom update, with radio version 1.09 and push email it will be even better.
I had a wizard for a few months and had to get rid of it.
Firstly note that I do not use either as a phone. i have a small cell phone for voice calls. I use these devices as my pocket pc with data only tariffs (a key advantage of o2 above all the other providers).
In this context the Wizard is really not a player:
1. Terribly slow cpu and os
2. Screen too small
3. No VGA.
4. Too slow to run skype well
5. Too thick (universal is thinner) - difficult to fit in backpack with papers.
6. Horrible stylus
7. Minisd card. All my deivces use SD. Its another std too far.
8. Non-std headphone socket
9. No 3g. GPRS web browsing is a joke.

Hello everyone.
I'm seriously considering purchasing a Qtek 9100. I wanted to ask a few questions before I go ahead and I'm hoping someone could help me. I wanted to buy a qtek primarily because of the color (slight darker silver). Is the qtek any different from the O2, K-jam.. and all other versions? I know O2 comes with a preinstalled software interface but are there any other differences? Particularly in processor performance or perhaps resolved bugs?
Question number two is adding a TomTom 5.21 Bluetooth GPS. I do not have much experience with GPS systems and quite frankly I just intend to get the Bluetooth receiver (from TomTom) and perhaps download a copy of the software online (Cracked-torrent [of course for educational purpose ] ). Is this going to work or is it absolutely necessary to purchase the software otherwise the GPS unit will throw me off a cliff. Or is there a better GPS system worth acquiring? (for UK).

As far as I know all hardware of the different brands at the same; they all come from the HTC factories. Only software varies. If you are going to use it with an GRPS connection I would advise a branded version (you'll get great value and save some serious bucks) if not the QTEK is the only one that comes without SIM lock. You can swap the ROM as you like, after unlocking they all work with the QTEK, K-JAM or any other rom version as long as it's for a HTC Wizard phone.
As for the TomTom, it'll work, but you still need to purchase TomTom if you want to use it. How else will they improve the software if noone buys and they their cash runs dry? (Board policy )
Only the K-JAM Rom allows you to connect to a WIFI network that uses the G standard, but it'll still be only at 11 mb/s. So that shouldn't be an issue. Localized (non english) versions do have some issues but none of great importance.
Go ahaed, buy one. I don't know anyone that regrets it.

In my eyes, the most important thing you have to bear in mind is that the Qtek version of the Wizard has one major flaw: the paint of the 'messaging', 'internet explorer' , etc. buttons comes off. I have not only read about this on multiple forums, but a friend of mine has experienced this first hand.
as far as I know, Qtek is the only manufacturer who has tried to save some expenses on 'quality paint'

Many wish T-Mobile used QTEK's paint It would have saved a lot of people scrubbing hard with a sugarcube to get the ugly pink ie-like symbol off

Thank you, le cactus. That's a very enlightening response. I would most definitely buy one soon. I've read quite a bit about the the Wizard and I know it came out under different manufacturer brands. I chose the qtek only because I personally liked the darker design. Its really a personal preference. I also wanted to make sure they didn't differ too much in stability.
I will support TomTom as it is the only right thing to do. Again, I just needed to confirm that it worked following a 'different' approach. Thanks a bunch, mate.
I can't wait to purchase my Wizard as my old nokia 5100 is ready to retire. I can't wait for my new toy.
I'm not too bothered with wifi g as well. I don't expect considerable difference with the Wizard's condervative processor speed. Furthermore, I don't intend to use the device for intensive surfing. I might restrict use to checking emails and occasional surfing when I'm too lazy to get up and use my computer.
hi guys, i couldnt help noticing that when i previously used nokia 6600 (symbian s60) they had few 3rd party that is able to make use of their audio mechanism during callls. for example, one software can make selected background noise for opposite callers so they think that u are at a train station for example when infact u r silently at home. another software is an on board answering machine, which after the phone rang for a few times it answer the fonecall with your automated recorded voice and recorded a msg left by the caller on the fone. this is convenient for us so we dont need to call back our voicemail and reduce cost as well as some telco charge to use their voicemail service. im surprised these kind of software have not came out for our windows mobile device when its already available for symbian. im sure it shouldnt be that hard to make it. any coder expert wanna give it a go??

i already tried commercial such as handango and pocket gear.. even freeware sites also no luck.. jus dun understand why no 1 made one yet.. shouldnt b too hard to make one.. it will be a big market to sell such a software for our ppc phone device now that more devices is coming out..
Cutefox: have you tried searching this board? Let me save you the effort, but it'll be a good idea next time. It's not generally considered possible, at least on WM2003 devices because of both hardware and software limitations. It's not that no one has thought of it before: someone seems to think of it approximately every two days... but there are many many threads on this issue.

That sums up why we can't do it using the api's available to us now. The funny thing is the way bluetooth sends the audio stream to a headset. Obviously the data is getting there somehow but I suspect it is not (directly) via windows. Dose anyone know if the radio hardware for bluetooth is connected to the radio hardware for the phone? My guess is that if you could write a program that windows "sees" as a headset then you could get the audio that way. But thats a problem in itself.
I would love this kind of program myself. How is it that such usefull devices with so many capeabilities can be kept secret from us. We can't use the camera, we can't get the cell id on towers, we can't programatically controll the partnerships in blutooth, we cant get the audio stream of our own phone, the events on some ppc's that control brightness are secret..... the list goes on. This kind of #@!!$$ is going to hurt the future of these devices which I otherwise love.

thanks vijay555, thats what I have suspected about the hardware. What I want to do is a bit different. The bluetooth can communicate to many devices at once. If your program could appear to be a headset to the os, then the phone bluetooth hardware could transmit the audio to the headset at the same time your program uses bluetooth to receive it. Kind of like a loop out of the box to bridge the lack of functionality. This shifts the problem to how dose a hardware bluetooth headset communicate. Emulate this and we are on a winner. I don't think I have the willingness to pull my devices appart. I also do not have the money for some of the hardware (eg good digital oscilliscope) that I would need to measure whats going on. I did read that microsoft are about to expose some new api to allow control over the pairing process (but not the audio stream). I hope that we get some soon.
Is there going to be any new (for 2005) free development tools like the evc versions used today?
OdeeanRDeathshead: re eVC, I don't think so. The "express editions" are free, but they specifically omit the functionality to develop "mobile solutions".
Re the loop back. That's a good idea. I think mamaich is our best bet on schematics, I think that would be very helpful. As you "rave", it's mindboggling that Microsoft still haven't revealed or implemented a way to interact with the audio channels. It must have been one of the first things one could imagine doing once you develop a PDA with a phone stuck on the back of it.
Any idea if the bluetooth stacks could support transmitting and receiving simultaneously in this manner? I know some of the boys are working on alternative bluetooth support for the stereo headset profiles, so they might be able to shed some light on the issues involved. I guess the processor overhead could be hefty, but for the benefit it would be beneficial.

Is there anyone here than can build a similar program to that of Jetware but for Windows Mobile 6 Devices both smartphone and PDA.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 660FM and with Jetware 1.31 I can get all functions working bar the SMS Reader (which also has the ability to read messages via the TTS Function).
Basically what I would like is a program built into a cab installer than can enable all the fuctions of the Garmin Nuvi and Tomtom devices that have bluetooth car kits built in that also support SMS.
I would be willing to pay anyone for a program such as this.

The problem is I dont have any of these devices. I have never seen such thing. And most probably I wont even buy such device because I dont like spending money on cars and car accessories. (I like gadgets that fit into my pocket)
These devices use the same protocols as the watch you wrote your software for. I'd like to program my own little app to interface with all the GPS devices that use those features as well as all the bluetooth car stereos out there. Would you be willing to share some tips, or maybe even source code from your software to help me out with this ?
The BT watch uses a lot of Sony Ericsson specific commands.
You have to find commands that sends the GPS unit - so you may use Windows Mobile with configurated virtual COM and some Terminal software to read the commands.
I believe the GPS units (as well as many car stereos, including mine) actually use the Handsfree profile to send these commands back and forth. The jetware extension has a logging mode where you can see a huge log of all these commands that go on between the phone and unit (whatever it may be). Would it be possible to adapt your application to talk over the handsfree profile ? I think the way jetware did it, is they put a dll between the audiogateway on the phone and device, to intercept all the communication.
The handsfree profile shouldn't be much problem I hope. Try to make some commands log and we will see...

The problem with this is the way that Windows Mobile (and the like) handle it's OBEX push abilities..
I have.. searched... called... and looked at so many webpages my eyes started to bleed.

Interesting to note. 90% of the phones out there don't work with the SMS funtion. We can get everything else to work (using the various patches and hacks availible on this web site) But SMS/TEXT alluded me.
Like I said, I narrowed it down to the fact that WM devices handle OPEX/Sync a little differently.. We don't support the classic "Server/Client" mode that the Sony phones do. It's these two that confound me..

Both are subsets of the Generic Object Exchange Profile (GOEP),.
I found patches, programs and the like that allow these two functions in a fashion.. But I also think the stupid Garmin Software looks at the POD file (informs what functions are avail) for specific phone types that are supported.. Or it could be that our phones just don't report the exact information that the Garmin is looking for, so it just disables the whole thing.
Either way. If someone wants to take a crack at this who has a more experence then me.. PLEASE DO. There is about 40,000 people with this stupid problem and they've all gone nuts..
PS Installing the Widcomm stack does not resolve this problem either.. I spent a week trying too get that @#$%#$%@# thing to work correctly on my wizard.
Well I am prepared to donate USD $100 towards costs to anyone who can develop a working solution, I think other people here also would donate towards a working product.

Sadly enough I have noticed that the xperia X1 does not like my premium volkswagen carkit. As used in passat or audi or skoda superb, bmw, Mercedes, etc.
I have an RNS-510, but have also tried it with a RNS-310. Both having the premium carkit in it. Also called carkit III.
It uses rSAP to enable transfer of contacts and phone settings control.
I have tested with a nokia N95 and it works perfectly fine with that after you enable the remote sim access profile. Also known as SAP.
Sadly enough, the X1 refuses to connect. The carkit just says the phone is not compatible.
Anybody have any clue what to do?
Maybe a custom ROM which does have this functionality? Or a tool that can be added?

my rom (cmex absolute touch) got an option to enable it under bluetooth setting (connections)
Yes or You use this little cab! Works perfectly with VW Golf VI PRemium Handsfreekit. I used the smaller file, but if it dont works try the bigger one!
In the bluetoothsettings you should find the sap profile after the installation, and in the programs a small utility to activate it. the Xperia himself has no SAP Profile!

Well, that helped, a bit.
I get to the connection screen, have to enter the 16 digit pincode and after that the car just says connecting, and stays doing this for a minute or two and then just says failed or not compatible.
So I'm a lot further, but it isn't working yet! I'm thinking because of all the things I have tried, I might have broken it somewhere, but unsure how or what.
Thinking of maybe flashing it with a different (custom) rom, to see if that might fix the problem.
Anyone have any other advice?
no experience with the kind of trouble your having but if you want to try off on a fresh start, i would do a hard reset, then install the cab fix that was recommended.

I just installed the cmEX absolute TOUCH rom and did a hard reset after that.
Enabled rsap on the last tab of bluetooth and the car says its connecting and just does that for a long time (after entering pin code). Sadly enough, it just times out.
Anybody have any clue what could be the problem? I have the feeling we are allmost there, but there is just a little thing causing it to time out.
rsap even says it's connected to my skoda and everything.
From what I can gather, the cmEX absolute TOUCH rom is based on a touch HD.

Okay, from what I have been able to gather, the following is going on.
The carkit is trying to log on in a frequency that it cannot handle.
I have been able to connect the carkit, download the address book and make calls with my Xperia now. No problems what so ever....except one. I was using a SIM from a collega whom has a different network!
I use t-mobile and my collegea has kpn/telfort. Doing more research, I have learned that kpn/telfort and vodaphone use the 1800 band frequency. And that t-mobile uses the 900 frequency.
I am not entirely certain at this point that this truly is the real problem, but, my phone works, my carkit and car works, so all the software bits are in sync, but only using a different sim. Rebooting the phone, changing nothing but the sim, makes it completely broken again!!
I'm using a RNS-510 with the Skoda/VW premium carkit. If anyone is able to shed some light on this and what possible fixes could be, I'd really like to hear!
I have been looking (and mailed) if a fiscon unit could potentionaly fix this problem. They also have units which intergrate with the system.
But I'd rather find a software solution, obviously. Sadly enough, manny cases can be found where people have problems, often, with no solution. This problems is *NOT* specefic to the Xperia, I do realize that now, since the new ROM, rSAP is working just fine.

Okay, things just more complex then ever before.
My x1 using a HTC touch HD rom base and rSAP from HTC (default in rom).
KPN sim = works and can call
Vodaphone sim = logs in but carkit crashes on trying to connect to cell towers. But car connection functions.
T-mobile sim = connection to carkit never gets finished.
I'm totally lost. Using a friends N95, all the sims work flawlessly.... which makes me even more clueless, because the carkit reads the sim data and then connects using it's own radio to the cell network.
Please, advice? How can this be fixed? Is there a different version of the HTC rSAP software available maybe?
The plot thickens again.
Using my sim card in my X1, not working. Original ROM, Original ROM + rSAP extensions, cooked rom from touch HD with native rSAP. Just non-functional.
Using the exact same phone, without the t-mobile sim but with the KPN sim, works perfectly, no problems what so ever.
Using an older Nokia E50, both sims work flawlessly, also my t-mobile sim.
This leads me to one conclusion and that is that the HTC rSAP implementation is seriously bugged.
Anyone have any idea on how to proceed? Somewhere I have read that the HTC's wouldn't handle 3G or UMTS sims and only use older ones. But, using the KPN sim I connect to 3G and it works. Also the nokia E50 of N95 can use any network and it just plain works. There for that statement is wrong in my opinion and it is caused by buggy software of HTC.
Anyone have a good idea on how to proceed? Lots of people having this problem and buying nokia's, but for no real reason other then buggy software it seems.
I really like my X1, and payed a lot of money for it, so I really need this to start working.... Please assist and help, also people with a diamond or other HTC, using the same software.

Did some tests again today, but sadly enough, no progress yet.
I'm going to try and get a hold of a Touch Diamond and a Touch HD and see how those preform with my sim. If my suspiciouns are correct, they will also fail, making this a combination of bad software with bugs with certain sim's.
That is the conclusion I am faced with right now... sadly enough, no idea how this can be remedied.
Are there developers whom might be able to write a reliable rsap implementation or will HTC ever come with a working version?
What do you guys think?
Sonyericsson will not provide SAP for the Xperia. Thats the point....

I have been in contact with Sony-Ericsson support and they tell me they cannot make the X1 compatible, because it is not just software.
Off course, to me this sound like total bull****, seeying I have allready had an raap connection with the X1. But this was either using HTC software add-on's or using a rom that was based on the htc touch HD.
Sadly enough, I cannot work without this functionality... and thus will be forced to sell my phone and buy... a nokia.... not bad, since I have had nokia's all my life. But I really really do not eNjoy beying forced to do so.
But everybody has known that the xperia has no SAP Profile... in every test, in every Datasheet you can see it! Why you buyed an xperia?
Wrong order
I orderd the x1 around the same time I orderd my new car (Skoda Superb II 2.0 TDI Ambition Business line ).
The car came with a carkit that can only do rSAP, but it is very very nicely intergrated with a external antenna, full adress book acces, etc. etc.
To my amazement, there was no rSAP on the phone, while all current high end models do carry support for it. Thus thought that a simple program or rom fix would provide it.... sadly enough, while some stuff works, it is very very flaky.
So it's a combination issue, off course I realize that. But I'd rather replace my phone and sell the x1, then having to change the carkit piece in my car (it is far more expensive). And still, I just cannot believe that such a basic function, is not in there.
Especially because it is made by HTC, which do carry this functionality!
So the problem was created by having both products in the same time frame. And my reluctance to believe such a high end phone would not carry this protocol.
From closer reading though. It seems that the x1 (with a custom rom) is not at fault here. If my speculations are right, any htc device with rsap from factory even has a big change that it is not going to function. Also reflected by my tests.
Using a HTC touch HD based rom on the X1, rsap is added and functions brilliantly using a KPN sim. Vodaphone works sometimes and crashes the carkit now and then and using a t-mobile sim, it does not work, at all. Since I have a t-mobile business account... it doesn't work at all for me.
I have not been able to get a hold of a Touch HD or Touch Pro to test if these problems also form on that phone, but will do so when I get the change.
So for now, even the HTC software seems to be bugged and thus I have formed my conclusion that my best option is to go back to nokia (which I have used for about 10 years now). The x1 is great, but not beying able to call in the car.... that just isn't going to work for me.
The new N97 looks pretty decent....
I have a jetta 06 tdi with mfd2(dvd version rev c) and skoda (kufatec) bluetooth modul installed by myself. I can do a Synchronisation of the Phonebook with Names and Numbers , dialed and missed calls , incomming calls with Names and i have a option to accept or decline a Call from the fis display , using my Multifunction Steering Wheel. Everything working perfect with my Xperia x1i.

Most likely that module is a fiscon module or an older part of skoda. Am I correct?
The fiscon does not use rsap and older premium carkits from VW also did not. But their newest carkits included in the passat CC and skoda superb II are rsap only.

Ah, yes. That is an orginal skoda part, but it is the older version from the Superb I and not the Superb II. That uses the other profiles and not rSAP.

Hi everybody.
I had the chance to test both X1 (rSAP from cabs in post #3, thanks by the way) and HD (native rSAP implementation) on a VW touareg premium car kit and I must say they suffer from the same problems: most of the time the connection is established, but immediately drops and enters an endless loop of connection/disconnection, where everything can happen: car kit crashes, phone crashes, vodafone goes bankrupt, etc.
What hurts the most, though, is that very rarely and randomly, the connection with X1 is firmly established and everything, for unknown reasons, starts to work fine. This drives me crazy, for it would be a lot easier to cope if the feature wasn't available full stop.
Nonetheless, this makes me think a solution must exist somewhere, but I'm too much of a noob to find it...
