triangle icon on top menu area of qtek 9100 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

there is a triangle icon on top menu area of qtek 9100, to the left of the GPRS symbol. It is not listed in the manual.......cant seem to figure out what it means. Also is there some download/diagram for what the actual locations of symbols are when typing.........obviously because the keyboard is not meant for american keyboard layout....it would be helpful.
Thanks

the triange ususallu means youre on a roaming network (ie abroad) instead of the 'home' network

triangle.....
but i am not abroad.....I am still in the states.

You don't have to necessarity be abroad. You are just connected to a different network other than your main one.

I had the same on mine when associated to WIFI AP, but with no IP provided (broken DHCP)

How do i figure out exactly what network i'm on when the Roaming indicator is there? for example i was driving up to houston the other day and the triangle came up, so i clicked on it, didn't say anything. then i pressed call to see the keypad and it still said cingular on the top. so how am i roaming if still connected to cingular?

That's the operator logo on the call keypad , is just an image
To see on wfhat network you're on tap once the signal indicator

I'm using the Qtek 9100 on T-Mobile's U.S. network, and it always shows the roaming indicator. If you look in the Cingular 8125's extended ROM, you'll find a cab which appears to disable the roaming indicator.
The registry key to disable the indicator permanently is HKLM/drivers/BuiltIn/RIL/DisableRoamingIndicator and set the dword value to 1.

Roaming Indicator On All the Time

I have a Qtek 9100 with the 1.6.7.1 ROM, with T-Mobile US service. My roaming indicator (the triangle in the top bar) is on all the time. I know I can go into the registry to disable the roaming indicator permanently (HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/RIL/DisableRoamingIndicator to 0), but is there any way to get my phone to recognize that I'm on my home network?

I have the same issue. I have a Tmobile MDA. Just flashed it with the QTEK release rom and I'm getting the triangle. I'm in California where I believe the towers are leased from Cingular. It says that I'm attached to Cingular...should I be concerned?

Remove Roaming Icon?

is there a registry tweak to remove the roaming icon on my TyTN?
the registry hack from my Wizard does not work on the TyTN...
I am using the TyTN on Cingular in the US (Hawaii), and the roaming icon is constantly on even though I am on my home network. I did not get the roaming icon on my old Wizard, but I get it on the TyTN. Maybe this is because I am using the old AT&T Wireless towers...
any help on how to get rid of the icon? :?:
Hi,
What is the roaming icon, something similar to a radio tower?
I think I newer saw it...
It's your wifi trying to connect...
It disappears when your gprs is searching or online.
When you don't start an internet connection but only activate your wifi then you'll see it appear...
the roaming icon is a solid triangle that appears to the left of the GPRS (or UMTS) icon. page 23 of the manual also describes it as a roaming icon.
i got it once or twice on my qtek 9100 when i actually WAS roaming, but my TyTN displays it ALL the time
ok, I understand.
Did you check your "Phone settings" especially the "Range" tab (I'm not sure of the english word, it's after the newtork tab) ?

I have the same issue with my TyTN in San Diego
Possible fix
I had the roaming indicator on all the time on my wizard. Was able to turn it off with the following reg change:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
DisableRoamingIndicator
Change value to 1
Try this might work for tytn..... still waiting for mine to arrive

I tried this reg hack as soon as I got my TyTN, but it does not work. I don't know why they changed it...
I don't think just make the roaming indicator disable is the right solution. The device thinks its in roaming mode the because of that all roaming rule apply like Over the Air Sync schedule and so on.
I contacted HTC support but still didn't got reply[/quote]
Any News On This One...?
I'm having the same problem--I'm on Cingular in Seattle. I've tried the registry hack and it doesn't work, the roaming triangle never goes away. I'm assuming this isn't a problem as I'm clearly in my home area, but it would be nice to know what to do to it to make it go away.
T-Mobile (US) vs. Cingular SIM
So I popped a friends T-Mobile (US) SIM into my TyTN and I don't get the roaming triangle like I do with my Cingular 3G SIM. So I'm wondering if the issue with the roaming triangle is with the SIM, or something that can actually be changed in the phone (like the previous reg hack that worked on the Wizard).
I've looked everywhere in the registry, tried changing some of the settings in the "OperatorNames" key and also the stuff in \HKLM\System\State\Phone but no luck yet.
Does anyone know if this behavior is phone/reg based or SIM based?
I wonder if it has to do with Cingular's (in the process of converging) blue and orange towers.
Well i'm in Toronto, and everyone seems to be in different places that this is happening to, so i don't believe its a "carrier" or provider problem. thats my theory... also.. i tried the hack above the LM/drives/Built itn/RIL but cannot see any options in the reg that even suggest hint at disabling the roaming icon.
This sux. I can't believe HTC customer support is as bad as it is.
How can we get to the bottom of this?
I have upgraded to the most recent HTC TyTN ROM (1.35) and the roaming icon is now gone. The new radio ROM (1.18) appears to have fixed this issue.
It is difficult to understand, why it is a “problematic issue". Basically, Roaming triangle appears to facilitate you, that you’re not roaming in your Home PLMN (Own Operator NW). It means you’re visitor in an other GSM Network (VPLMN) and you are registered as Roamer . This is nice to know with Roaming triangle if Roaming charges applied OR NOT.
I get the roaming icon everytime I install a ROM that is a non-Cingular ROM. My phone is an JasJam, when I first turned it on I had a roaming symbol, calls to imate and Cingular were unsuccessful. Installed a newer Cingular ROM (1.34) and the triangle went away, then I installed an HTC ROM (1.35) and symbol was back, then I installed Cingular's 2.06 and it was gone, radio v1.33.
Now I've installed WM6 Vanilla which keeps whatever radio you were using before and the symbol is back.
I'm convinced it has something to do with the OS talking with the SIM so there has to be a regedit somewhere to correct this. I really hate having this thing warn everytime I initiate a OTA Sync. Don't let this issue die its still out there.

Not a problem if it is a true indication. But it is misleading when you are registered on your own network.
Seems I got same problem in Hong Kong.....previouly me using Vodafone 2G service....now changed to Hong Kong 3 2G/2.5G(i-mode) service...I can connect to 3(2G) network but a roaming icon keeps showing all the time.....I am bit nervous the roaming charge now T_T
And I am using Dopod818Pro in Hong Kong
was there ever a resolution for this?
Remove roaming triangle... Solved.
I had the same issue with the roaming triangle... I'm not sure where I found this but it works perfect for me. I use Task Manager (http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm) to import it to my registry, then I just restart the phone and the roaming indicator is gone.
Good luck to you and vote Ron Paul!

What is the triangle next to GPRS icon?

Im curious. I get this triangle next to the GPRS icon occasionally. Clicking on it does nothing, and it seems random (although its probably not). What is this sign and what does it mean?
Thanks
CeRR
i believe this icon signals, that you are roaming (using some other network, not your own) ...
Ya, that triangle is only visible when on roaming. Its a roaming indicator.
Ahhhh Thanks
Makes good sense as the network I'm on is currently piggybacking of two others while they expand their footprint. Thanks alot
I have the roaming icon all the time even in my own city ( Hong Kong) , guess because the default country of the rom is US, can I do anything to get rib of it?

Turning of Roaming completely

Not sure if this is the correct forum but I want to be able to turn of roaming completely. I have a US G1 on the three UK network with the US RC33 installed and root. I have disabled data roaming. Here in the UK we're too small a country to want to roam! Coverage is usually good enough from a single network. However, I occasionally get the little 'R' symbol on the single strength icon and an annoying prompt saying I need to turn data roaming on because I lost connectivity. I have to go into the settings and manually select the "3" network again.
What I want is to either be connected to three UK or not connected to anything at all. Is there a config file I can edit to allow this? Would the UK RC8 firmware do this for me?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Doesn't a 3-UK SIM try to roam onto O2 though?
You could set the phone WCDMA only and NOT roam onto a GSM network.
Use AnyCut to shorcut Activity: Phone Info
From there under preferred Network Type; set to "WCDMA Only"
HELP!! Roaming signal won't go away
I have an unlocked G1, JF1.41 v 1.1 and i just updated to the RC33...but this also happened when i had RC30 , v 1.0...
I put in my canadian Fido sim card and everything works fine but i have that little "R" on top of my signal strength bar...
I think this means its data roaming? if this is the case...it should be okay (even though its going to bother me) because my service provider says my EDGE/Data is disabled (i do not have a data plan, NOR do i wish to incur any data charges.. i'm fine with my free WIFI ) .
However, if this means im roaming on another network, i dont want to be incuring any long distance charges on my phone EVEN when im using my own FIDO network..
I went to settings - about phone - status, and here are my specs (some of them):
Network: Fido
Network Type: EDGE
Service state: In service
Roaming: Roaming
Data Access: Disconnected
i'm pretty much just concerned about the ROAMING part of it... my other friends with G1's are with rogers, don't have that little R..
how do i get rid of that?? please and thanks!
Try manually changing the network in Settings>Wireless controls>Mobile networks>Operator selection
G1, like all GSM phones, will roam onto networks specified on the SIM if it can get a better signal. As long as the relevant operator has a roaming agreement in place, there's nothing to be concerned about, other than the R symbol in the status bar.
Mod: move this over to General discussion please.
I did change it and selected my Fido network (it's the only network available).
Thanks. I've set it to WCDMA only so I'll see how it goes.
Please help??? i still have that little R on top!
After I got home I found my phone had lost its connection. It didn't seem to be searching for the network. I had to go into settings, search for networks and then select three again. Is there any way to control if the phone does a search for networks automatically?
Looks like it reconnects to three on its own after a while. I still get the annoying popup about turning on data roaming though

As has been previously mentioned, Three will "roam" onto another network if it goes out of Three's own 3G network coverage because Three does not run its own 2G network.
However, it isn't O2 anymore, it is Orange as of late 2006/2007. I *believe* that you won't be charged any more if you use data whilst "roaming" on Orange, so whilst you are in the UK it is quite safe to allow data roaming, but I would be inclined to check this with Three.

Dave

[Q] Odd question re Available Network Names

Have had a look around, but can't seem to see any threads like this, so am posting a new one.
Has anyone on Orange (or any other network) found that "their" network is no longer showing a name in the list of Available Networks (Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile Networks->Network operators->Search Networks) ??
In the list of Available Networks the "Orange" network is represented, and "starred", (so I know it's selected) - but it's not showing a name of any sort.
If I click the checkbox against "Mobile Network" (Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile Network), the line underneath just seems to hang at "Turning on....".
I have had issues getting a 3G signal recently and I think it might be connected to this?
The phone is not rooted - it's the standard Orange UK release of Android 2.2. I'm using LauncherPro Plus as the homescreen UI, but otherwise haven't made any other changes that could affect this (that I know of). I have "looked" at some of the APN settings, but have not made any changes to anything.
Anyone had anything similar??
Addendum - ok, playing with the phone this minute and the data connection is working! But I still have the missing network name - so any suggestions?

Curious: You say the representation is starred, what are the symbols / letters next to the star where you expect it to say "Orange"?

That's just it - there's nothing. There is an entry in the list, the entry has a green stylised star (to indicate its the chosen one), but there's no wording, nothing at all.
Vodafone UK, O2-UK, 3 UK are the other available networks.
Oddly, the "Mobile Networks" entry on the list of options on the previous page DOES have "Orange" showing.... ???
Oh - just realised that I am using SwitchPro Widget on my homescreen, but this shouldn't affect things if I go to the network settings directly, should it?
No idea if its related but I am on t-mobile (and elected to be part of this roaming onto orange if mine is unavailable thing many months ago)
Seem to start occuring yesterday but I lost all connectivity to 2G/3G but fine with Wifi. i.e. phone just said Emergency calls only. Not really any issue as reception in town where I 1st noticed it is variable but my mate with his Desire also on t-mobile was sitting nexting to me with 4bars and normally I always get a better signal strength in any given location LOL
So I went into settings and tried the auto select network. Wouldn't have it saying something along the lines of your requested network is unavailable. Tried the manual selection option and after about a minute it said it couldn't complete this operation.
Power off the phone and still emergency calls only.
Only selecting restart the phone put it back to t-mobile and 5bars again.
It lost connectivity several times during the afternoon and evening (different cell towers as I had travelled in between ocurrances) but so far today its all been fine.
