Voice Command 1.5 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

need cab file desperately - ActiveSync not running... please post or direct me to correct web address - thanks in advance!!

anyone please tell me the web address to d/l the cab file please?

I'm sorry but we can't give you the link as, since there is no serial number protection or anything, it would be equivalent to giving a warez link and that's not what XDA Devs is about.

What?
serial number is entered AFTER installation!!
warez? are you crazy??
I HAVE purchased the program, activesync is screwed... all I ask for is the weblink... my god... !!!

I thought this forum was about HELPING people... asking for a weblink to download legitimately owned and purchased software is not a crime Melty... don't twist my request please....

philtech44:
You know as well as most regular uses of the board that enough people come online asking for freebies.
I'm not going to comment on piracy, I'm sure I'm as much of a hypocrite as most, but merely say that the board generally doesn't go in for handing commercial software out in a way that could easily be identified as illegal. But it certainly does go in for helping people out.
As far as I can remember, Voice Command 1.5 doesn't seem to use a serial number, before, during or after installation. As such, posting a link to the cab, legitimate user or otherwise, would allow quite a few industrious guys to get hold of it for free. Again, many of us skate close to the edge of legality on here anyway, but that would be a bit unwise for the Board's administration.
If you need a cab, it might be in the board's best interest for you to ask a few guys nicely and in less public fashion, or grab the cab from emule etc. It'll take about 5 mins max. While you're at it, CardExport II will allow you to access your phone even if activesync is down. Always worth having a "copy" of
V

There is a mac program called File Juicer that lets you extract the .cab files out of the .exe files that let you install programs onto pocket pc if you only have a mac...
http://echoone.com/filejuicer/
If you dont have access to a mac there might be a similar program you could find that would do the same thing though.

Some quick googling turned this up : http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18713
You need to run the EXE on the desktop via Activesync. If no PDA is connected, at least the CAB files associated will be extracted from the EXE and stored in a folder. Then you can copy the CAB to the PDA manually. The other way is to get the CAB only from the manufacturer.

Exactly! Sorry philtech44, but I'm sure you've got hold of the file by now anyway. And as RyanZA said, if you run the exe it extracts the CAB anyway.

WOAH!

OK, fair comment Vijay... but friend, whatever happened to a PM if posting's suddenly such a problem?? Consider for a second please, the 'depth' of some of the posts on this and similar sites... and how maybe such information - in the wrong hands.... well come on, need I say more..?

Thanks for the lack of help this time guys... after all isn't that the aim of these forums?

I had no idea until I saw philtech44's posts in this thread that it was OK to demand help and support on these forums. Until now I've seen everybody asking nicely and being polite, but I guess now it's OK to be stroppy, arrogant and unpleasant when demanding help from other forum users.
Can we be rude and abusive too?

Yeah it's a shame if we're going to get many more threads like this one.
Maybe this thread should be locked as it has nothing to do with Voice Command any more?

There is some reg trick

to view entire sms message in the previev bubble?
Don't know if there's a reg hack, but is this a useful feature?
I could write a program to do it if there's an overwhelming demand.
V
Yes write it, please...
yes Vijay, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,.

Ballon has got a static dimension, so if arrived a long sms it cut some characters...
Nishant, you understand that I've never said that I would release this software if I am successful in programming it? I'm not sure that it's useful software for people to have.. But I will try to write it and see if I can do it.
Guys: I can write the balloon to show the text message, but it's going to take a little while to figure out how to do reply and delete etc. The balloon is easy though!
I'm away on holiday next week, so it might not happen until then
V
Ok, thanks in advance... You're the best..
thanx man! u guys are really skillful tech-man! i'm a media student...can't do anything like this...hehhehe!
Guys, I'm not going to have time to finish this off before I go on holiday I suspect: I'm working flat out on something I'll preannounce hopefully tonight - I've never worked on one piece of software for so long
If I can, I will try to knock together a small version that just shows the message text, no reply button etc, for now.
If I can get this before I go away, you can probably wait until next week for a more complete version, no?
The holiday will be a good time to read on some more advanced programming tricks!
efayes: media student makes no difference! If you knew what I did for a day job, man, it's as far from programming as you can get. Unfortunately, I just enjoy programming! And sleeping for 4hours a night
V
Hi Vijay...I've been meaning to learn how to do programming for pocket pc too. Can you perhaps point me in the right direction as to what tools I'll need and what language to program in and everything else? I'd greatly appreciate any pointers at all. Thanks!
Soupie
soupiejr: I'm on holiiday next week, (unforunately!), so no computer access, but I've been working on my blog between programming (which is very little free time, trust me!)
The blog will be all about my in-experiences in learning to program, hacking the PDA and other thoughts etc.
But for now, searching against my member name and programming.
For the PDA, most would probably recommend programming in .net.
You can choose your language and apply it relatively cross platform.
However, my background is as a hobby VB programmer on the PC. I had to learn to program in a lower level language to do today plugins and things for the PDA.
eg:

}
For this kind of thing, I was recommended by Microsoft that C++ is best for plugins. As such, I picked up a copy of "C++ for Dummies" (!), and "Programming Microsoft Windows CE".
I suggest if you have to learn c++ (which depends on how low level your needs are, because the .net compact framework incurrs an overhead on performance & memory) then learn C++ first, before considering the niceties of the PDA. So Dummies or another good c++ book will set you off in the right direction!
V
PS forgot: if you're learning C++, you can download EVC 4 for free from microsoft. For .net, you can download Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 from MS. If you've got MSDN access, you can download the release candidate...
vijay...i've visited ur site...
u're simply brilliant man! i'm pretty amazed and impressed by ur "home-made PPC software"....pretty thoughtful...
man, I'm so embarrassed. When I read what Maimach and you other guys are doing with decompiling the rom, my software is like something you find on your shoe
But hopefully some of it is useful from time to time
V
Thanks a lot Vijay! You're the best! I'll go with visual C++ for now. Have been hoping to learn it for a long time now, this'll give me an excuse for it.
Ever heard of Ruby? I wonder if we can use that too...

I'd like a trick for this.
Ps. Yesterday, for the first time, I visited vijay555 site.
Very good apps !!!!
Don't think I've seen a ruby dev environment for the PPC yet.
I think you're fairly spoilt with choice with .net right now, but I guess Ruby's bound to happen soon enough!
V
i'd also like this prog/hack...any developement, vijay555?
and there are 4 small buttons (reply / call / delete / close) on the bottom of bubble - could you make them bigger?
I never got around to it, but I thought about it.
I'm hoping to release something new and related soon, and then will hopefully come back to this at some point in the not too distant future..

Startup location

What are all the possible ways for WM5 to startup programs.
With windows I know you have the startup folder, run keys in the registry and services.
What are all the possible locations a program can be launched from within WM5. The only one I know of is the startup folder but there obviously are more.

Ive only had my jamin a week now and as with everything in my job I like to know how it works, the ins and outs. I think ive pretty much got the jamin figured even to the point ive made my own CABs to help when I hard reset (done one a day so far while I figure it out.)
The only thing left is understanding what runs when I turn it on. Like its nice to know what runs when you turn windows on Windows Mobile is the same, even more so given the limited memory. For example I have the built in CA antivirus installed, but I set it not to run on startup, dont want it remnding me im out of date. Its just finding where teh startup locations are.
You should really get rid of the antivirus. Uninstall it completely.
One day in the (not so near) future, viruses for Windows Mobile devices may become a problem, but for now any anti virus software for these devices is a pure waste of system resources.
totally agree. I actaully hard reset again (yup, more fiddling) and removed it from my Ext Rom.
At present there are only 2 virus's. one is a proof of doncept (Wince/duts) and the other is still pretty lame.
The chances of running such a program is slim but both are detected by desktop virus's scanners. so unless your downloading software direct to the PPC your pretty safe. Even then you still need to launch the file.

Hey Danny
U can try installing the MemMaid (attached)
It has a great interactive user friendly interface and tells u all the hidden apps running and u can deselect a few ones(coz it tells u which ones are taking the Most memory)
Do take a full backup, in case u delete a system file and the device does not boot up.
I hope some seniors here would advice more on this..
SORRY I HAD TO ATTACH PICS THIS WAY.

@Shaun33
Great work. I downloaded it, not tested jet, but it will work for sure.
Thank you to fulfill the request!!!!!
wow! great work.
I already have a working cab but i wish this was around when I was trying to first make it - good work - I'm sure a lot of people will really appreciate this! Now if only we can get one to configure and edit dialing plans
First findings...
Hi Shaun33,
Thanks a lot ! It's really a great initiative from you to write (and, mainly, make it available for everybody) such a program ! I have gave it a try, and have notice some small bugs, or better put, behavings not according to what I was expecting. Here are my first findings:
1. Not properly an error. Just an improvement, perhaps: I had already a Voip provision working on my device. So, it would be nice if the application could read the provision file, and bring its contents to the screen, beforehand. So, users could make small corrections only, in case their provisions were not working properly before.
2. This seems to be a bug, though: as I have not seen my provision on the screen, as stated above, I've decided to exit the program without making any changes, for what I have tapped the soft button "Exit", many times, but the application has kept running. I've had to kill its corresponding proccess to stop it.
Hope this post might help improving your your great application further. I'll try to keep you informed.
Thanks again !
Carlos
feature request
nice and useful app. thanks.
adding "dialplan editing" feature would be great.
in fact it would make the app complete.
following post would be helpful in this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1224031&postcount=454
Definatly, adding a dialing format editor would rock!
something along the lines of
Code:
+nn (nnnn) nnnnnn
where '+' is the international dialing code (replaced by 00)
'(' and ')' are alphanumerical characters expected
n is any numerical digit
' ' is a whitespace between other values
just to enter a simple string rather than \D{2}-\? etc...etc...
The exit button will be fixed.
How could i miss that .
The Dialplan is going to happen.
Im aiming for something like asterisk
07XXXXXXXX will match 0711111111 - 0799999999
As i said version 1.
reading the settings from the OS is a little harder then coding it... As the API is one way...
still looking
fantastic work, much appreciated
Shaun
Thanks for producing this great timesaver. Even in its V1 form it's already WAY more convenient than having to fiddle with _setup.xml, cabarc, etc.
I look forward to seeing your version that can save and load configurations and dialplans.
Thanks again

fantastic work, much appreciated.

Mass participation acoustics research project using WM devices

Im a researcher at Salford uni, UK using mobile devices to allow the public to carry out noise surveys.
Im hoping to recruit thousands of people to install our app on their j2me mobile or WM PDA, which allows them to record the sound around them and comment on it using some simple scales.
The projects in its pilot at the mo so im trialling the software and methodology with some hard core beta testing.
Im really hoping you guys might be keen to test the WM app out and give me some feedback on how it works and how it could be improved.
Ive attached the cab file and source for your testing pleasure! The code is quite scatty but should be pretty readable.
As a side issue im also looking for some feedback on our project site @ http://www.soundaroundyou.com.
I'm the only one developing the projects different parts so im the worst one to be checking out its accessibility, usability and functionality. Thats why im calling on you guys for your mad development and testing skills.
Any feedback is good feedback for me so be as brutal as you like.
Cheers!

NB: Just changed the source and CAB to support (hopefully) all resolutions of devices. All ive done is scaled up all controls in the app depending on the screen size of the target device. There may be some strange side effects of this on device but it seems ok on the emulator...

Cheers for the interest, im downloading the WM 6.5 toolkit now so I can give it a whirl on that platform.
Ill post up here when ive sorted it.

Just uploaded new version
In response to MasterOfDesasters ive edited the app so that it scales all of its controls to be usable on a larger screened device.
Its a quick fix really but seems to do the job and makes sure that everything can be navigated and used as you would on it native sized version.
This scaling is not ideal so might throw up some strange effects on control placement, but ive found no issues yet on the emulator.
Thanks again for your interest, C

interesting... but would like some more details. 1) there are two cabs - which should be installed? and 2) where are the sound recordings stored? internal or external?
yep same questions here... i would like to participate on your proyect seems to be nice... but why?
Strange but necessary!

Strange but intentional!
Aha, that is actually intentional. I should probably explain this on the welcome page. I do this so that the devices microphone is placed as far away from any obstructions as possible. I trialled an older version with some school students and I found that they were making recordings with their hands placed over the little mic hole at the base of their mobiles. Because of the high systematic error associated with the unsupervised recordings Ive had to make sure we get as many usable recordings as possible. The app saves the rotational state of the phone when the app starts so that it resets it back to normal when the app is exited though.
Thanks again for your help and I would love it if you could maybe upload some of your recordings to the site using the PC app if you get a chance. Where are you based out of interest?

Hey there, the single cab attachment is the one to install but it should be the same as the one in the source zip anyways.
The sounds are stored on the devices root in a folder named "Sound Around You" There is a settings file and however many wav files for each recording. Each of these recordings has an associated xml text file that contains your subjective responses.
You can locate and upload your recordings using the PC app so they are viewable on the world soundscape map and can then be used in my research.
Thanks for your interest and let me know how it goes for you. Any other thoughts you might have on the PC app or website would also be great as im having a hard time attracting the public to take part and im far too nerd orientated to properly publicise the project!

Aha, thats a question ive been asked before... Is that "why are we doing what we are doing?" or is that "why should you take part and what do you get out of it?"
The projects main plan is to raise public awareness of the sounds around them or their "soundscape". The effect the sonic environment has on it inhabitants is not fully understood and im trying to work out how and why aspects of it affects people in different ways.
By gathering up thousands of soundscape recordings and peoples opinions of them, I can attempt to assess soundscapes in terms of their "Quality". This people based understanding can eventually lead to improved design and planning of future cities and current public spaces in terms of their sound environment.
The data that the public generate will feed directly into my PhD, where I will boil it all down to discover what the determining factors are within a soundscape.
Some more press friendly outcomes may be the opportunity to find out the "best sounding city in the UK or the world" or the loudest or quitest place in the world.
Check out the site @ http://www.soundaroundyou.com and please keep in touch if you want to know anymore.
All the best.

Thanks - will give it a go on my HD and see how it goes. Hopefully that'll encourage my workplace to let us all wear headphones during work!
(or at least make the dude who talks really loud on their phone quiet down a bit)
Rebranded the website
Just overhauled the website with new graphics and info. Also added an online upload section so you can get something straight up there using either our mobiles apps or your own recorder.
Let me know what you think of the new look and if it all makes sense.
Cheers!

The Windows mobile version doesn't use the GPS unfortunately as I was having some real issues getting it working universally so I stripped it out. Our Java version for mobiles does though, if your mobile has a built in GPS receiver.
The way that these soundscapes are located without a GPS fix is by the dropping of a marker on a google maps box on the site @ http://www.soundaroundyou.com
But please give it a try and thanks for the interest!

[APP][PRJ] Hydros Sync Center [Replace Active Sync]

HYDROS SYNC CENTER
Hello people. I have just released the Hydros Sync Center 4.5. In this version, it is completly redesigned in the code due to a major bug which was causing other problems with the program. Hopefully to those of you who had the bugs before, you won't have anymore from now on. Although the code has changed dramatically, please keep in mind that this is a free application so I do not plan on making a User Guide (also because it is quite easy to use). Below, I have listed the new hanges in this program from the previous 4.0 build. One of the main features about this is that it now includes the "delete song" feature (which may seem weird to include it at this point but it took nearly 4 hours of coding and tought to make this work the way I wanted it to). If you would like to donate to me for my hard work, please click on the link in my signature and I will gladly accept any amount
* Delete Song
*New Playlist
*New and updated code
*Delete Playlist
*New Installer
*No hassle about where to install
*Rom Updater has been changed (in code)

Asking money for a half-way app is not my kind of thing. Your message seems to me more like an advertisement than a contribution to this forum. Maybe I'm wrong, but your first statement in this thread is asking for money instead of explaining your contribution. Apologies when I'm wrong, but this is not the way I would do it.
are we going to see something this year ?

Did this program sync also contact, task... with outlook or just media files?
I think the 4.7 build is corrupted it is only a file and it is only 50 Mb.
in the file is a broken .msi (only half the file).
Edit: can you upload it on another place ( rapidshare,Hotfile).
thanks a bunch for the tests. I will reupload it again to another site.
I didnt even know that this thread was alive still. If you want info on Hydros sync center, please visit me own site at hydros.exofire.net. There, there is a forum and a blog, you can comment there. i would appreciate if you also send me your email so i can add you to mailing list.
