Removing the Sim Hard Resets...mith or not?

I have searched here but can't find the answer anywhere but... - O2 activated my Sim card apparently 24 hours ago yet my new 3G sim still isn't working in my XDA Exec - therefore I'm assuming the salesperson took the Sim Card serial number down incorrectly.
Today the sales girl on the phone asked me to reread it, but a day later I've now customised my XDA Exec, installed apps etc, and remember reading somewhere that removing the battery and sim hard resets back to factory defaults...is this correct or not?
No.
Thanks! Is there a limit on the time that you can leave it without the battery attached?
No limit, because the exec has persitent storage. So everything ist stored in flash.
Just give it some seconds in sleep mode after closing the device to write the last changed data from RAM to PS (Persistent storage eg. internal flash).
You have all the time you need to change battery and SIM-card.
When you switch back on everything is there again.
when changing the sim all that occurs is a soft reset due to the battery being removed. I love persistant storage, i can swap sims to my hearts content.
Ahhh brilliant, better than the older XDA1 then, hehe!
Many thanks

XDA Exec questions.

Hi i have just installed the lastest rom for my XDA exec, v1.13.188. However after the install i have a few questions.
1) Where can i get the gprs monitor from as its gone?
2) Where has the 02 symbol gone from the top taskbar
3) Where has the battery icon gone from the same place?
Thanks.
Im new to this but I have just done the ROM upgrade.
Did you do the basic install ?
After the upgrade I soft reset my PDA and got the o2 logo back.
Has the batery icon gone small and at the bottom of the screen? Mine did this. I went into settings :- today :-Items and ticked BatteryNFO and it comes back.
As for the GPRS stuff I got this on a disk with o2 and had to put it back on. But its rubish anyway. so I took it off again.
Hope this helps.
Like I say am new to this.
Yes i did the basic update, i cant find the cd with the file on for the gprs.
I will try the today options for the Battery info.
I have soft reset the phone and i still dont have an 02 logo, strange.
I'm sorry I could not be any more help.
Try here http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft3.html you can download the application and the OS (if you are not upto date) - Mike

XDA Atom Phone Functionality

Am I going mad or missing something. It appears that the phone functionality of the Atom is not as good as the mini. With the mini I could use the phone keypad to type a name to find the contact, select it and then open contact details in the phone book. I could press the centre button to open up the contact details and then select which number I wanted to dial. Once I dialled a number I could go back to the contact card and choose another number.
The mini also allowed you to go to the speed dial by pressing the left button or right button for call history.
These features have disappeared on the Atom. If am correct then this is a backward step. I thought the WM5 is supposed to be an improvement. :x
Am I the only one missing these features or am I missing something in the set up.
Is there a work around this or an application I can purchase? Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I think you will not find many people owning an Atom in this forum...
However I was thinking to buy one, when I decided NOT to do so because of some limitations associated to the phone, T9 and phonepad... a colleague of mine bought one, though.
The phone app is not WM5, it's custom software by the phone manufacturer, that's why they are different. There are threads that tell how to install phonepad (a HTC proprietary app) on non-HTC devices (search for "phonepad" at www.eten-users.net) but beware that this is not legal. Alternatives are discussed here: http://www.ppcsg.com/lofiversion/index.php/t71549.html
BTW: did you find any way to switch the atom off (completely, I mean)? The manual says you cannot. How is it possible to change the SIM card, then?
Thanks for your reply. I though I was going mad. I am not sure what you mean by turning it off. I havent tried changing the sim card. I just turn the power button off. But it amy be still on in the background.
Yes, if you press the power button the display turns into standby. It is still on, though (and the RAM drains battery). On my S200, keeping the power button pressed will allow you to switch it off completely (a cold boot is then necessary like after a soft reset).
To change the SIM you need to remove the battery, but my friend is afraid to do so unless the device is switched off completely. According to the manual, however, you cannot do this. So I was wondering if it's risky to remove the battery while the device is in standby.
I just took my sim card out and put it back again. All it did was a soft reboot and I was up and running again. No data lost. Like most of these devices it has a built in battery to keep the memory intact when the main battery goes flat or is replace.

Windows Mobile 5 uses permanent storage so no backup battery is required! You can take out the battery for as long as you like.
I know it stores data on permanent storage, but can I take out the battery without previously shutting the device down?

Newbie: How to use O2Install in Corporate mode?

I try go to Program\O2Install Type, then there are two options for chossing:
+ Basic
+ Corporate,
but when I chose corporate option, it displays a box for you input number but I don't know what number I have to put in, any Guru please advise how can I use the corporate option,
Thanks Alot
Orangevn
its 0506, though using the search may have been a quicker way of finding the answer
I'm not a guru, but the code for Corporate install is 0506.
Have you also upgraded to last O2 ROM? Now may be the great time to do so it if you haven't installed all the paraphernalia yet.
About to get my new xda delivered today after the other one broke.
Have never used corporate mode.....anyone fancy listing how it will benefit me if I do? Does everyone here use corporate?
Cheers
HPJ
corporate mode
I am trying to do the installation in the corporate mode and when i put in 0506....when i enter the 6 it gives a message saying "welcome corporate user......o2 active will not be installed" and when i give ok the screen goes back to the one it was and it doesn't install the corporate mode
any suggestions or ideas that can help solve this problem and the cause of this problem?
thanks
That is correct Corporate mode will not install the O2 crap on to the device, you don't get anything extra, infact you get less - the big advantage is a much more stable device - Mike
yeah i know that but if u read my question correctly then IT DOESN'T INSTALL IN THE CORPORATE AFTER THAT MESSAGE....IT GOES BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SCREEN AS WHERE I HAD STARTED FROM. IT IS STILL IN THE PERSONAL INSTALL MODE. I CANNOT INSTALL IT INTO THE CORPORATE MODE!!!!
AS SOON AS I ENTER THE LAST DIGIT 6 IT GIVES ME THAT MESSAGE AND THEN GOES BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SCREEN AND DOESN'T INSTALL CORPORATE MODE.
HELP WITH THAT PLS
THANKS
yeah unfortunatly from what i have seen it is impossible to actually change from basic to corporate mode without actually hard reseting the device sorry mate
All the stuff that O2 want you to have on the screen, mostly shortcuts from what I remember that very easily put you on the internet. Some people love it others hate it, and no guess as to which camp I reside in. The O2 Active has given me major problems in the past, but once I got rid of it the device has been great (XDAIIs aka Blue Angel and the XDA-Exec).
The Active interface simply slowed down the device to the point it either crashed or ground to a halt, both problems required a softreset, since binning the Active and using Corporate mode I have had very few problems with either device.
I have gone one step further this time though with the new phone (when it arrives) is a factory stock HTC Artemis so there will be no O2 rubish loaded from day one, I also can't be bothered to wait for O2 to decide IF they are going to make this device available, will probably switch network provider at the same time to save some cash though! - Mike

please please help me......

hi guys can you help,i got the phone last week on a 24 month contract from phones 4 u,had problems with first one had to change over for a replacement, second one worked fine, installed a app called justpics set a picture as wallpaper a message kept coming up saying'force close' so turned phone off, now all i get is the 2 sony ericsson logos then the 2 lights at bottom of handset light up and the screen goes black, ive tryed charging it removing sim card, battery, memory card etc but nothing....if anyone can help i would really appreciate it,eg how to place phone in safe mode/master reset etc thanks guys
do a reinstall of the firmware.
get the SEUS tool from the sony website and do a reflash.
how would i do that? im not very up with phones sorry
Download Sony Ericsson PC companion from Sony Ericsson website, install it and follow simply instructions to re install the firmware,it's very user friendly.
On the phone: Mount the memory card by dragging the status bar on the phone downwards and then tap USB Connected > Mount.
thanks for the advice guys but
Cant do this as screen is black and wont move.
Sounds like software is corrupted. Maybe you ought to try coming back to Phones4U and tell them the problem if the below doesn't work.
Have you tried removing the battery, Micro SD card, and SIM card for a couple mins then reinsert them and power it up again?
You really can't do anything else with a black screen...

Download SE Update Service try it out
run update service OR pc companion.
they both have a repair option where u hold the back button and plug up. sorted!
still nothing i contracted phones 4 u and they have ordered me a new phone so 3 time lucky.....fingers crossed
I would assume from this post that perhaps this program "justpics" may be the culprit. Did the issues you are having start after installing it? Read here as it sounds like the app has been a problem for others as well. Maybe try a factory reset and keep away from this one.
