O2 XDA II Mini and O2 II (S???) - Networking

Hi,
1. Just received an O2 XDA II, however:
a) "XDA II" is what is printed on the phone (Silver) case but when I
turned it on "XDA IIs" is shows up during the phone start up.
For info,
O/S is WinMobile 2003 2nd Ed., Ver. 4.21.1088.
Processor is Intel PXA263
ROM Version / Date is 2.06.00WWE / 06-14-04
Radio Version: 1.18.00
So what does this make my phone, an XDA II or XDA IIs?
b) In the [Programs] menu window, there is a folder:
"Communications/WiFi Tools/WLAN Tools (Mobile Edition)"
The WLAN program is from "www.socketcom.com" - (Utility Version
2.0 and a Build Date of Jan 20, 2005)
Does this mean I can WIFi? And do I still need to get a WiFi Card or
the phone itself is already WiFi capable?
2. I also have an O2 XDA II Mini which I have been using for the past year. So far I have already sync the "Contacts" and the other files from my Mini to the XDA II.
However, is there a way to copy/sync its "Messages" folders to my O2 XDA II? I have saved a lot of important texts and made numerous subfolders, and thus really need to duplicate the existing format to my other unit. So far using Active Sync and Microsoft Outlook has not worked for me.
Appreciate any advise you can give.
Thanks, Pogi

Does it have a slide out keyboard at the bottom ?
the XDA IIs is supposed to !

Nope. The unit itself is XDA II. However, when I trun on the phone, the start up displays "XDA IIs". Plus there is a WLAN program (XDA II does not usually have this). Tx

The XDA 2i looks like and XDA 2 and has built-in WiFi. Does yours actually have WiFi, or just a program (which doesn't actually do anything)?

Mine has the WLAN program and just needs a Wi-Fi Card to run.
Thanks

Pare, what you have over there is an XDAII but with software upgraded to WM2003 Second Edition giving it the same software as the XDAIIs so the only difference that I know of between the XDAII (upgraded) and the XDAIIs is the keyboard (XDAIIs has a builtin one), WLAN (XDAIIs has it builtin) and the larger memory and faster chip on the XDAIIs.

Maraming salamat for the info. So does this mean ... all I need is to buy a Wi-Fi card? What brand to you suggest besides Sundisk?

Also, is there a way I can copy the messages (especially those in my folders) from my XDA II Mini to my XDA II?
Thanks again, pre

to be honest, I haven't really tried the wifi on the XDAII at all though the specs on the official website says it'll work.

Is your Himalaya as stable as mine?

Just wondering...
I'm using my Himalaya with WM5 1.60a patched to 96MB RAM and 32MB ramdisk. I installed all programs into the Extended ROM. My Himalaya runs rock solid.
As a matter of fact, I can't remember when I had to softreset the last time. And I'm using my Himalaya a lot. I often browse the net via my SDIO WLAN card from socket, and no problems at all.
Is your Himalaya also so stable?
Cheers
Pat
How did you restore your contact list from WM2003?
well one way would be to sync with outlook
Mine is very stable since i've upgrade to windows mobile 5 and i can't remember the last time i have to do a reset.
I've only some problems with radio stack 1.18 when my device is on flight mode the radio power on everytime
Himalaya is a wonderfull device with windows mobile 5

New XDA Exec ROM (AKU2) & Phonebook sync?

Hi everyone, I've been using this site for a while to help me through the occasional nightmare that is XDA Exec ownership... so thanks for your help so far.
I've just applied the new XDA Exec ROM today with AKU2 and I was under the impression there would be a Bluetooth phonebook sync profile now. Am I wrong?
I have a Sony Ericsson HCB-700 car kit with a phonebook button which is supposed to read the contacts list via a SIM Access profile of some sort.
Has anyone got this working? It sounds different to the Parrot solution where the contacts are pushed to the carkit, this appears to be direct-access by the carkit.
The only article I found here was this, but no solution yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37787
Any ideas?
Now this is stupid...
Found this
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2762
So Sim Access profile was available under AKU 1.1 for some phones, but the XDA Exec never had the build number greater than 14402.
Now with AKU2 we still don't have it? How crazy is that?
Am I missing something? Is is Microsoft or O2 that need a good kicking?
M$ have planned a WM5 SE (Second Edition). Perhaps it will be addressed in this update of WM5.
See here: http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=220079
I have a parrot 3100 & it works for me every time it connects it syncs withthe exec.

Struggling with Bluetooth

Hi guys,
Really hoping someone can help me here as getting very frustrated.
First off, I just need to confirm what model of phone I have! It's the MDA Compact II, so I assumed the Charmer, yet does not have WM5 on it, it's WM 2003 SE. Is this still a Charmer...or a Magician?
Originally I had another unit which came direct from TMobile, which had WM5 on it. I lost it. I bought another one off Ebay but it appears to be an older model phone, with WM 2003 SE on it. (Didn't realise this at the time grrrr).
Anyway I bought a Bluetooth dongle the other day to use with my laptop. My only need for it really is to simply transfer files between the laptop and the MDA.
I've installed the software that came with the dongle (Bluesoleil) but I can't see obviously how I am to transfer files. I can pair the devices but they will not connect with each other. Do I need to use FTP? If so, I can see no provision for this on the MDA.
Hayy-elllllp!
Many thanks in advance,
RHF
Hi, the easiest way how to recognize these units is to look at the information about the device (settings - system). The older version (magician) has 416MHz clock of the cpu, newer version (charmer) has only 195MHz clock of the CPU.
It can only be the Magician. There is no Charmer with WM 2003SE and no Magician with WM5.

Help with my XDA IIi

Hello,
I have scoured the forums and think the name of my phone is the Andes. I am unable to find a guide on how to install the roms and software from a complete beginners point of view. Please help i bought mine off ebay and it has a problem. If i could flash it i could rule out the phone being faulty.
Cheers
Peter
no IIi is called alpine
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Alpine
Go to Start - Settings - System - Device Info.
Select the "Identity" tab.
PH10B = Himalaya, can be upgraded to WM5 and WM6
PH10C = Alpine, cannot be upgraded but does include WiFi.
Hope this helps.

I'm confused (doesn't take much), I thought that I had an Alpine judging by the only pic I can find (02 Xda ll)but checking the device info as suggested gives
CPU Intel (R) PXA263
speed 400Mhz
Ram 128Mb
Flash 32Mb
chip type 28F128K3
storage 14.57Mb
Identity PH10B
Is it an Alpine or a Himalaya?
and can it be upgraded hardware and software?

PH10B makes it a Himalaya and so it can be upgraded to WM6.
The Alpine and Himalaya are externally identical with the exception of an Alpine saying Xda IIi and not XdaII. The other check is does your have any WiFi, i suspect not as it's a Himalaya.
Hello, I Realy Need Some Help, I Have An XDA 2I Running MW 2003 SE >. (Alpine) 50 Gs Storage 50 Gs Programs... Im Am So Sick OF 2003 Se... I Hate It Soo Much.. I Will Be Happy Even To Run Linux On The Dam Thing.... I Have Upgraded My XDA2 To Wm 5.. But It dosent Work Anymore.... I realy Need to change the mobile os on my 2i.... please even android will be good anything... I Have tried so many upgrades for XDA2 but they dont work they say connection error. Please help me any mobile OS.. Even A Samsung OS..
IIi don't even have stable WM5 or WM6. Android on this device is pure fantasy, not to mention that Samsung crap.
Also, you should check Alpine forums, not Himalayas. You will more likely find your answers there.
Maybe sell that IIi and buy something different? Older WM6 devices are dirt cheap, or skip to Android. IIi will be probably stuck at 2003SE for a long time...
How do i get to the alpine fourms... And i dont have any money ATM.
It's right here: HTC Alpine
When you are looking for a specific device on XDA forums, there is a search box in the top right corner marked "find your device..."
Hope that helps

Is it true the XDA IIi is either an Andes or and Alpine?

I spent ages trying to upgrade my Alpine with an Andes/Himalaya ROM before I realised I had an Alpine!
It was a new phone and on the main XDA forum page it lists the XDA IIi as both:
Himalaya & Andes (6 Viewing)
The Himalaya phone is sold as XDA II, MDA II, Qtek 2020 and many other names. The Andes is the updated version that has a 1.3 megapixel camera, sold (among other names) as the XDA IIi.
and
Alpine (2 Viewing)
The Alpine is sold as XDA IIi, Qtek 2020i, PDA2 and many other names.
I tried google searching but found no answer... feel free to shoot me down if the answer is out there somewhere!
Two ways to check:
1 - does it have WiFi - if YES its an Alpine
2 - from device info - identity what does it say:
PH10A, PH10B - Himalaya
PH10C - Alpine
Thanks DeeDee
It has Wifi so it must be an Alpine... shame it can't be updated to WM 6.1!
But I also have just got hold of an XDA II which is a Himalaya for sure and have updated that to WM 6.1 - didn't notice the lack of WiFi though - can't have looked for it yet!
tak!
