VPA compact 2: MSN Messenger missing and other info - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi Folks,
Vodafone began to ditribute the (nicer looking Wizard) VPA compact 2 here in Germany.
I received mine last week. Here comes the question: There is NO MSN Messenger installed in the unit.
There is a Tool that is started in ExtROM which reads "Signed_Voda_RemovePocketMSN.sa.CAB". But even if I start up the unit wthout all the stuff in the ExtROM the MSN Messenger is gone.
What happened here? As far as I know the MSN Messenger is in the QTEK, Imate, MDA Vario and XDA Mini S Models?!
Other Info on the device: NO Net-/Simlock, if you want to access the Registry it (the Registry) needs to be unlocked via (SDA Application Unlocker). Looks quite nice - much more valuable than Mini S and Vario since the keyboard doesn't have that calculator look.
Anyone interested in pictures?
Greetings

Hi!
Great that you're happy with your choice. Thanks to HTC they build various designs.
Is this the picture I've taken? The quality isn't that good. The two keys are backlit but very soft.
Other question: Doesn't Cleartype really work in landscape mode? Everytime I change to landscape Cleartype is deactivated.

the vpa picture is yours (tt)

Hi plantagoo,
Sorry for the offtopic but i saw the screenshot at vodafone website and the theme looks really nice, is there by any chance u can upload it? thanks
::adit

Does it have the vodafone messenger installed? I'm not familiar with vodafone germany but that's the only reason I can think of why they would remove msn, if they want you to use their own messenger (which supposedly can interface with msn contacts).

Hi!
I just wanted to upload the whole Extrom to the FTP - but I'm not allowed to upload anything. How does it work? Maybe I'm dumb but I didn't find any hint with the search... *sorry*

Hmm i don't know how to use the FTP either, but as for the theme, you can just attach it...
thanks,

Hi!
Man, I'm blind...
I uploaded the whole ExtRom to the FTP.

Hi!
Uhh... I almost forgot to answer your question.
No. There isn't any messenger installed at all. No MSN, no vodafone. Nothing. Ok, so I use Agile. I won't pay for this Pocket MSN thingie...
So the real reason is missing. Maybe they have to pay extra fees if they provide the messenger in their units and voda wasn't willing to pay for it...

sounds really silly. pooh vodafone (although I have a voda phone). personally I recommend IM+ which works very well on the wizard.

Where is the O2 Active screen?

Good and bad news from down under - OK, the good ones first:
The O2 XDA II arrived in down under as well And I would say it's the best thing since sliced bread - no, it's even better than that 8) Only problem so far is that It's sometimes a bit difficult to keep it in my sweaty hand while I sit - at 35 degrees in the shade on this lovely Christmas day - in the garden.
I have one problem though. I looked very envious on this O2 Active screen that tekguru refered to in his preview at http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=468

but my Australian version doesn't have that and it's not on the CD either Hm, is there any other way I could get this? Or is there any tool to place Internet shortcuts on my Today screen? Right now I use tdLaunch, but I didn't find a way to use it for URLs...
G'Day & Merry Christmas,
Don't know how you can get the O2 Active but here's a suggestion on accomplishing similar ability using TDLaunch. There are two ways actually :
Option 1
Create a button in TDLaunch and use the following details :
Name : Whatever you would like your link to appear as...
File Path : \Windows\iexplore.exe
Command Line : www.yourURLhere.com
Options 2 :
Create a favorites entry to your URL using Pocket Internet Explorer. Lets call it YourFavorite.
Create a button in TDLaunch and use the following details :
Name : Whatever you would like your link to appear as...
File Path : \Windows\Favorites\YourFavorite.url
Either one will give you what you want and open your default connection to Internet and load the URL. I found the first option to be somewhat more reliable. Don't know why.
Hope this helps. Regards.
Good on ya, mate! That does the trick...
Happe New Years as well
Hey guys it would be great if we had some screen shots to go along with this great TDLaunch tip! 8)
Farnold, glad to see it worked for you.
Qman, will post some screen shots later today.

thanks for any help..
hi, does anyone know how to remove the o2 software from a xda2.
thanks in advance
It's all about using the SEARCH BUTTON first...............

SPV M600
Yes the Orange SPV M600 is the HTC Prophet.
I'm wondering, is MDA Compact 2 the only Charmer around? Most device that look like Magician is either a Magician or a Prophet.

Yes, the MDA Compact II is the only Charmer and imo most likely will be the only Charmer now the Prophet is out.

Now if you'd have gone to the main page (or I'd have just posted this link) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ you will see a reference to the Atom
So .... the O2 Atom that looks like this ....
http://x.msmobiles.com/portal/images/o2/o2-xda-atom.jpg
is made by by the Taiwanese company Quanta Computer
Thats just plain craaaazy! (but true)
Thanks
Rich
PS. do a google image search for 'HTC Athena' and you'll see why I thought the Atom was made by HTC
The concensus seems to be that the HTC Prophet was in its early development known at the HTC Athena
If you look at this image, you can see that Atom is not a 'Magician' type, it seems much smaller. I wonder why doesn't HTC sue them for .. design copyrights.

Just search for "Phone Pad International"
Some ROM's have this included by standard..
Doesn't work with additional language keyboard
I have an additional language installed with it's own keyboard, but when I installed Dial Pad for Hermes on my Trinity I could only use the default English keyboard.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Yes, you should install the international version
So I have done a search both here and google, but I can't find a place to download only descriptions etc. anybody got a .cab file or a website?

No problem dude You should know that almost every software is compatible with multiple devices as long as they run the same operating system I know there are some exceptions, but most stuff will work..

Dude this is basic stuff... ..open the CAB on your device, install on the Device not on the SD Card
Thanks, that is what I had been trying to do. Got it sorted now
I've tried the English and International versions (one at a time) but although the Phone Pad option appears in the input methods list, selecting it doesn't - the input method reverts to keyboard.
Any ideas?
hmmmmm Orange SPV M700? Running WM5?..... dump it and re-rom
It's an M700, yeah.
Is that the only way to get it to work? I have no other complaints - why would I want to flash the phone?
He he..... personal experience. I got Dial Pad to work.... but couldnt tell you how, and it was not stable, Orange seem to have got the machine so........ busy, screwed up, call it what you will, but it wouldnt go stable, you need SIP chooser ( I think) and DialPad international, and then some chicken bones and an amount of good luck
Flash the phone... de-brand the Orange gunk (unless you like it ) and get nice shiney and new WM6, with Dialpad already fitted Oh and stable, and no Lemon branding..... but thats just my opinion
Flashed to WM6, working perectly so far! Probably a few things I haven't tried yet but it's all seeming good. Thanks for the nudge

WM6 Skins

HI, i have a Cingular 8525 (WM5)
Where can i find some WM6 Skins, more so the black looking ones..
Also how can i close apps instantly without it going into mem ?
i believe normal skins from wm5 and wm2003 works just fine
as the glossy part is not in the skin but in the bar
so other skins bar colours should automaticly become glossy
there are many programs which really close programs when one press
X
but some programs act up if forced to close outlook is one of those

I just need a weather app ? is there any for WM5
You can get WM6 for free from the HTC site or from one of the cooked roms, read the FAQ, if you want to stay on WM5 I recommend SPB weather, it's not freeware though.
this htcHome today screen with weather works ok with wm5

WLAN Walkie Talkie

Hi,
Does anyone know if theres program that lets me talk to someone else (in my house using the same wireless network) just by pushing a button (like a walkie talkie).
I want something a bit like the voice recording in windows live messenger - but in the form of a standalone program.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Uzzy
It would be amazing.....
But I think it couldn't work using Wifi...
It should work through Bluetooth....
yeah..like PTT

I tried this out but with no success.
I have 2 HTCP3300's (Artemis) and installed the prog on both. Then i switched wifi on and went into the program. I saw my other device for about 5 seconds - and then it disappeared. The same happened with Bluetooth.
After a while i decided to try and talk within those 5 seconds (after restarting the porgram) but there wasn't any audio from the other artemis - there was only a message that came up on the screen saying something like "Sound quality is high". This message only came up when i was trying to talk to it.
Does anyone know what's wrong? This program would be perfect if i could get it to work properly.
If anyone wants to test it i can send the cab to them.
Thanks in advance, Uzzy
Hey Uzzy
The sound quality setting must be the same on both sides of 4talk. Once the are the same you should be able to hear your transmissions. My only issue with this software is that the signal itself seam to be a bit unstable. Breaks up a lot. MS portrait works quite for me.
SJPhone works over a WIFI network, even adhoc mode! in full duplex (better than a walkie talkie)! Use version 2003SE v.1.60.303c (there is a beta for wm5, but it doesn't work). I've used it, without problems, on both wm6.1 and 6.5 on an HTC Wizard AND an HTC Kaiser. It also has a PC version so you can talk Phone to Phone, PC to PC, or Phone to PC! The answer button doesn't display properly, so you have to configure a hardware button through SJPhone OPTIONS to answer the phone. You also need AudioSwitch to redirect the audio to the internal speaker. And you can also use it as it was intended, a SIP VOIP phone! I've set this up on several old phones for my Grandkids to play with. They LOVE it!
You can use Loudtalks;
