Im Getting My Magician Tomorrow! - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi Guys,
Been using this great site for a while now but im not a great poster! lol Ive bought a Magician and it will be arriving tomorrow and just wondered if there is anything that i should be looking out for?
For example, what mods do you recommend? I.E Bluetooth Fix (may not exsist but just gave example) I cant wait to get it as ive used a few before and been very impressed!
Also does anyone have a link for TomTom 5 Cracked? would be much appriciated!

Hi, welcome to XDA DEV and congratulations with your purchase! If you search this forum, you will find many fixes and mods that have been applied to speed up the magician (through registry edits), gain extra memory (BigStorage is a good one!), improve the BT stack, remove the Simlock etc etc. Just look in the Magician forums and you will find many tweaking hapiness there. Be sure to back-up first before applying any mod, since they might cause a hard reset and data loss. Please DON'T ask for illegal software here, there is enough of that to be found on the internet, but not in this community. We like to tweak and mod things, but intend to do nothing illegal here. If any software or hack here is illegal in your country, don't use it.
Have fun with your new Magician!

Thanks for the welcome Koksie! Ive been having a browse though and thought that maybe it would be good to get a Top 10 things to do to your magician?
Just thought it would be handy for people like me that are new to the magician.
Can someone explain what bigstore is please? Sounds great.
BTW it hasnt arrived yet its scheduled before 1pm though!

Do a search for BigStorage, it involves flashing your Rom with a custom made one you made yourself. You can use the ROM that came with it ( if it is a new one, you will get the latest ROM I presume) or with a newer one ( if yours is a second hand device and has an older version. 1.13 is the newest one at the moment. Check in your start-settings-device information) Since a flash removes all your data, the best thing is to do it before you put any programs and information on it. basically it deletes the Extended ROM ( where your provider puts all its settings) and merges it with the internal storage, adding 20 MB extra of ROm storage, in other words, another 20 MB extra of memory that will not be deleted in case of empty battery. Another advantage of 20 MB of extra ROM is that you save another 20 MB of RAM (by ebanling you installing aps to ROm instead of RAM), so your Magician will be much faster and less battery consuming. Search for BigStorage and the method (including backing -up the Extended ROM for later use) will be explained in detail in several threads.
Same goes for removing the Simlock or extending the BT profiles. Just search for the right terms and the methods will pop-up.
Other worthwile apps are DKToday, BT SwitchIt, tel-on-off, AEBPlus and MortButtons. Check these out, they are very usefull apps. Many registry tweaks are also posted, they help to speed up your magician, change behaviour of applications and settings etc. You are right that a top 10 would be helpful, but just searching the forum will help a lot. for regedits serach for "registry edit magiacian"and I am sure helpful threads will appear.

Search for Wisbar Advance. It's the app that applies the skins.

You can find many skins on www.yorch.net, including instructions on how to install them. There are many other skin sources and progs on the market, some for free. Search and the shall find my man, google is thy friend!

This page is a useful read on hints and tips.

PS something you're bound to ask at some point, because everyone does, is how do you sort your contacts First Name, Last name?
Search against my userid. I've answered it a million times!

I was in the same position as you are, as I recently switched from an XDAI (Wallaby) to the Magician.
Here are some things to consider and do.
1. You will definately fall in love with the device if you are a bit like me or the rest of the people here. You will want to use a long time, so before you go and use the device regularly, GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR. Even if it is just a cheap one to start with, protect the screen.
2. The regular Bluetooth stack is pretty unimpressive. It works OK, but does not offer a lot of options. If you are going to use BT get the CAB install that has just recenty popped up and is currently being discussed here. You can download in that thread, then you have a ton more options regarding BT.
3. The camera on my O2 branded device is crap (blue speckles in low light conditions). There is a fix out there to solve the problem a little bit. The ultimate solution is to install a updated camera software from T-Mobile devices which is more recent. I am still looking for a way to do this, have not dived into the topic completely.
4. If you are using your PPC device a lot, especially if you are using a large SD-Card for file storage one day or the other you will face the need of hooking up yur device to some friends computer to exchange some files. This is not easily done unless the other computer has ActiveSync running. To do this easily you can use Softick Card Export, which is a little tool that enables the Magician to act as a Mass Storage Device. When the program is enabled you just use your friendly USB cable to hook up to the other computer and your Magician is instantly connected without drivers (if it is a W2K+ or XP machine or something like this - Win98 will not work instantly).
5. Always carry a small USB cable with you. I love the possibility of charging my device whereever I find a USB port.
6. Software I will not leave home without:
- Wisbar Advance2 / Wisbar Advance Desktop plugin
- Total Commander
- Registry Editor of choice
- Memmaid
- Pockettools
- Sprite Backup
- Destinator PN (if you are going to use it as a GPS)
- Pocketmusic for mp3 playback
- Phonealarm plugin
- Some calendar plugin giving a good oversight of tasks and appointments
- eWallet (for keeping confidential info such as PINs etc. encrypted)
- Mobipocket Reader with a recent offline version of Wikipedia
- Pocketmechanic
- phonExt (better Dialer)
- RESCO Audio Recorder (allows mp3 recording)
- PhonePad chooser (customize the PhonePad design)
That should get you kind of started. Oh, wait, after I did the BigStorage hack I also replaced that butt-ugly O2 splash screen (screen displayed when you power on the device or do a soft/hard reset) with a selfmade one saying "hacked" and displaying the 18c3logo.

7. Get Pocket Zen Phone - it only costs €5 and allows you to have multiple profiles, flight, office, car, etc for different situations - just click the icon on the Today screen. Get it here: http://zendrui.free.fr/

So does PhoneAlarm. I checked out PocketZenPhone, but decided I liked pA better. It's a matter of taste, I guess. Did you take a look at pA anyways?

This discussion is going on on another thread as well.
I use PA, it's got a lot of features that I like.
To be fair, I've not used PZP much because I didn't think that it did more then PA that was relevant to me.
I've set up PA with profiles on my Today screen, which seems to be what PZP is good for:

When a Geek cries.. My depression with my new Cigular 8125

Perhaps one of you can help guide me before I give up on what I thought would be the great love of my life, the Cingular 8125.I knew it might be underpowered, I new Cingular would screw with the OS a bit. But as a person addicted to the Audiovox 5600 I thought.
"Hey this will be great I will be upgrading from 2003 to mobile 5 plus getting a bigger screen QWERTY and WI-FI"
How foolish I feel right now. This thing is SO MUCH less of a phone than my 5600, although the call clarity seems even better and has better reception.
- It does not have the ability to easily check calendars and reference the contact while in a call nor is it easy to jump around during a call at all.
- I CAN NOT BELIVE they stopped supporting settings on contacts who's bright idea was that?
- All the conference call numbers that I have stored in my appointments do not have that fantastic autodial feature that my 5600 had
- Don't even get me started on the abomination that is ActiveSync 4.1 I could write down my new email faster than I can sync it
- The today screen is so much less configurable than home screens, my home screen was perfect but I can not use it.
Is all of this just an enormous oversight by MS with Mobile 5 or is this the Wizard? or for that matter is it Cingular? If so can I get this potentially perfect peice of hardware to run a more phone friendly ROM?
Thanks

Dude, you know it had a smaller screen, it's also a smaller device with a full keyboard. What do you expect? At least it's not a sqare 240 x 240 screen.

As with all versions of the WM OS going back to the original PPC OS, you can add any functionality thru 3rd party PIMs, today screens, freeware, etc. Get yourself a good task manager or a Menu application. Navigation on my K-JAM with smartskey, gsPocketMagic, alt-tab, couldn't be easier.

Are you referring to the AKU2 update? Once again, please be more specific.
I've got an 8125 and my wife has a 5600. I tried setting up her home page for easy access to the most used programs and files like i have on my 8125 but it is such a pain and nowhere near as functional as mine.. I guess it's what you're used to.
I have an MPx220 and the K-Jam. They both have their place.
The MPx220 is a great phone when you want a small phone that has actual phone buttons and a powerful contacts/calendar plus some additional stuff.
The K-Jam on the other hand is a complete PPC which isn't much larger than the MPx220 with WiFi. It doesn't use XML like the Smartphones, but is still configurable. They are different animals.
Personally, if something happened to my K-Jam, I'd pick up an 8125 in a second. Push email, real apps, full qwerty, etc. I'll always have a typical phone as a backup in instances where I don't want to risk damage to the PPC phone, but the K-Jam (Wizard variant) is my main device (and has been for almost 5 months) until something better comes along.
Give it some time. If you compare a BMW to a Mercedes, you will find they are both quality automobiles, but if you look for specifics, you'll find each has things the others don't.
-Mc
Ok I have calmed down a bit, still anoyed however
You were correct that alot of it took getting used to, after some playing I get ActiveSync to work reliably (although was more trouble than it should have been). I also added pocket breeze and that helped. I am still really troubled by a couple of items
I do not like having all my contacts on my phone, I have always maintained a subset of my 2000 plus contacts specifically for sync to my phone via categories. With my 5600 I could simply specifiy the categories I wanted on my phone and get that subset. this was a great feature and I am lost as to why they took it out of Mobile 2005.
I liked being able to layout my homesceen with real percision using the xml schema, can I do that with the Today screen?
I am very upset that I have lost the link to autodial phone numbers from appointments. I have like 10 conference calls a day and I am often mobile. All of the appointments have the conference call numbers in them and I used to be able to click them to dial the number. On my 8125 they are not linked, is there some tool or fix to make them linked having to swap back and forth to dial the numbers and codes is a real pain in the neck.
When you dial a contact is there a easy way to go "back" to the contact and dial another number? My 5600 did this great caus the call progress screen had a link to the persons contact and the calendar. A very good interface.
Overall I agree this device has the potential to be much better than my 5600, the problem seems to be that the OS has forgoten what I consider to be some key usuability features around the phone part of this device.
Any hints would be appreciated.
There is a good reason why there is still two devices using the WM software.
--------------------
Smartphones are first and foremost a phone with some limited PDA capabilities that go along with it
PPC Phones are first and foremost a PPC with some phone capabilities that go along with it.
--------------------
I like you transfered from the smartphone platform to the PPC platform when the 8125 became available but I knew that by taking this step the phone side was not going to be as functional as my old trusty SMT5600.
There are a lot of PPC utilities that make this transition easier. I would say the #1 add in you want to play with would be the Smarts Key add in that was developed by one of the members in this forum. It makes it much easier for one handed navigation especially when your on the phone.
I would also recommend installing the new ROM. If you look in my sig there is a link to a ROM package someone has modified and took out a lot of the extra crap that Cingular did to the ROM and also includes an updated Radio/Data Stack. After I did this upgrade and installed Smartskey and Microsoft Voice Commander I found the 8125 to be a much better tool.
If you need a phone first and foremost I would go with the 2125. It is a great device with a nicer screen (smaller still, but nicer) then the 8125. I got one for the owner to replace his SMT5600 and he says the reception and stability is like night and day.
i too, have yet to find the joy in owning/using my wizard (8125) as i had with my typhoon (smt5600). however, i do have a faraday (2125) too and am glad i do because i use it on weekends. the 8125 is not a great phone and the 2125 is a poor pda.
maybe they will have offspring

Bahh, so many time for this, a shareware app...
And so many time to develop a new version and not even the inclusion to be able to choose new ring files from another path...
Sticking with PPCProfiles Pro 3.00a...
Review of Profiles for Windows Mobile 2.0
I have tried a number of different profilers and i like this one best because of a simple interface and low resource needs. It feels like its part of wm5 whilst the others always feel like addons and generally slow the device down.
Well i have tested the new version on my O2 orbit and first impressions are good.
- It has same interface and looks as 1.2 version but is enhanced
- Up to 9 profiles which is more than most of the competition.
- Vibration now works when selected under wm5.
- Bluetooth has discoverable option which is desirable.
- Ability to set profile including wifi on/off when roaming.
- Ringtones can now be selectable from the storage card\my documents folder
- Midi files can now be played as a ringtone
- Screen rotate feature useful for car profile
- Scheduler works well on my device and is a welcome addition
- No glitches or bugs on my device yet.
Wishlist
1. Backlight change with profile
2. GPRS on\off would be a welcome addon
3. Run program in a profile interface is too basic - file menu needed and the ability to use lnk's and not just exe's will make this more versatile.
4. Options interface to be wm5 style rather than old 2003 style and annoying popup of keyboard stopped
So i am certainly interested in buying this profiler and have a couple of questions.
Does the cost include future updates?
Does each device need a separate code? - i have a wizard and an orbit
Are any of the things on my wishlist in the pipeline?
There seemed to be no alpha or beta released (i often checked your forum) why not?
The program size has gone from 94kb to 340kb any possibilty of trimming to reduce size (sounds a contradiction looking at my wishlish) but ? more efficient coding or compression of dll's
Will there be more participation in the forum by yourself as in the past seems lacking and many of the users post not answered.
Thanks again and good work! I hope you take all my criticisms as constructive.
Well, a lot of things have happened in the last year that kept me away from my PC. One of these was the complete crash of my laptop, with a complete lost of all the sources... my last backup was 2 version older... PWM has been rewritten from scratch.
Let me reply to each and every point:
Wishlist - options 1..3 are on the way! I just needed to deliver something and test the user's reactions. I will keep on working on it, if it's worth to...
I don't get your point for wish #4... I'm sure you're going to wipe my doubts away...
Beta - There has been a Beta phase of course. And I posted a message here too, seeking for volunteers... got just one reply, and when it was to late, too.
Program Size - Unfortunately the increase in size is mostly due to images stored into the applet file's resources and the use of the ATL libraries for embedding WMP (sounds preview). I personally would get rid of the sounds preview, but its was one of the most wanted features...
Participation in forum - I'm actually spending several hrs a day in replying to the messages I get in several forums. It's 3:24 now and I'm still here... so my answer is YES! you will feel my presence amongst you!
Licensing: Each device need it's own license. In case of multiple licenses for the same owner, the price would be heavly reduced. License will surely be valid for all 2.x future releases. Whilst I still see room for improvements, I do not believe they will justify a version 3 or 4....
Criticisms are very welcome! I got no better way to improve myself...

Thanks for that slvrbllt - sorry that i missed your beta request post - if it had been in the wizard forum i would have surely picked it up - I am happy to do any future testing.
Correct me if i am wrong but wm5 interface usually has keyboard central and 2003 to the right - no big deal - its just the keyboard popup thing that irritates - EDIT this is only on my artemis - on the wizard it has wm5 interface and no keyboard popup problem.
EDIT2 - problem is fixed on my artemis by unticking 'support wm5.0 soft-keys' exiting, opening and then ticking the box again.
Is it possible to do separate versions? - wm5 and 2003 - it may get round this bug.
I am glad 1 & 3 are in the pipeline and ? 2 not diff to impliment surely - if not I can use a lnk file to work this.
Well you have one customer sold.
btw i have noticed an occ duplicate notification from the scheduler and i will keep an eye on this. Please keep working on this its a great profiler!
Thanks meschle!
Got you listed on my customers spreadsheet... I'll do my best to move your name to the "very satisfied customers" column!

I don't think so. I mean, it's not a technical problem (can be easily done).
I can't see any difference between letting the PDA insert the PIN for you and disabling the PIN request on the SIM.
While I can see security related issues (PIN must be stored somewhere...)
I was testing another product some time ago, and decided to give the auto PIN feature a try. Unfortunately I keyed in the wrong PIN number. Before I realised that, my SIM was locked. To make things even worse, I could not find my PUK...
Now my new SIM does not ask for a PIN anymore.
Ciao!
Well, I tried the previous version of this program and also of PPC Profiles Pro... I liked them both, but at my I-Mate JAMin (and I don't know why) once installed I couldn't go anymore to the Sound & Notifications (or Phone) settings, because after doing that it none of them works ok no more... also it damages all of my default ringtones and I can't select anything else. Even after uninstalling the progs the problem of default ringtones continues So I decided to never use this king or programs again in my ppc...
(sorry for my poor english)
I've just got a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, and i found your profiles program and it does the job perfectly, i love the simple today plugin, just what i was looking for. I like the apps i use to have the default windows look and feel and WPM certainly has that.
I have just placed my order, i look forward to receiveing my license

hmm... I'm using PocketCM which I love, but I'd like something to give me quick access to certain contacts from the today screen (speed dial). This might be a little more than I'm looking for.

Does it require flash?? I noticed on the website it said something about that.
Thanks,
Curious G
no flash.lite...
No Flash involved. The memory used depends on the resolution of your device as we do some caching here and there to keep the animation smooth.
The binary that does all the work is about 200kb (the file is larger but most of it are graphic resources). On a 240x320 device caching should take an additional 140kb (but it can be reduced if you disable the reflection effect).
Some additional memory may be taken by Outlook Mobile when you interact with dialog boxes to Edit contacts, select contacts and so on.

BTW: the bad news is that after months of work, we released this yesterday, and, guess what, it's already been cracked. So while were planning to add some further features soon (such as the ability to instantly filter contacts by category via the right softkey in the Today screen), we may give up all this for the time being and literally WASTE time making it more for difficult to crack (which of course will also make the software larger and slower).
It's a very stupid world sometime...
This looks like a nice app. I can't seem to find the cab file. I am on my Treo. Could someone pls post the cab file. G8ly appreciated
Just visit www.cnetx.com using your Treo, visit the download page and it will automatically download the CAB file for you.
BTW: the CAB file is signed with a Microsoft M2M security certificate, so the process should be pretty smooth indeed.
Enjoy.
I installed it on my CDMA vogue/touch and I *really* like it so far. I have it inside my ultimatelaunch UI and its working great.
Couple points:
-the cracking thing sucks, but all software gets cracked. Its a fact of life. When it comes to PPC software, if I like it, I'll buy it. Most here on this forum will too. I like to support the community. I wouldn't be that disheartened.
-Features I'd like
1) automatically import my all my contacts or contact groups. It would be much faster than adding 1 by 1.
2) ability to resize the picture. The size it is now is okay, but I wanted to make it a bit bigger, although that might distort the picture I guess
3) maybe have multiple rows. If you have a few dozen contacts, you won't be able to see them (they will be "stacked" in the corner so-to-speak). I would like to be able to maybe put a dozen in one row, a dozen in the next (or however many I want per row) and so on.
If I don't find any bugs and I like it, I WILL buy it. Your price is fair.
Matt

For Pete's sake, give me a f***ing break. This is the reason why developers are decreasing by the hour. It's a shame. Hackers have been cracking apps for the longest, but scammers have even gone so far as to take what developers here created (for free, including ROM's), and selling them on ebay. I'm not even a developer (or cook) of any kind, just a avid supporter, and it pisses me off.
Sorry, I had to vent when I saw this.
how signal to moderator??
Hey Matt,
thanks for your positive comments and your suggestions for future improvements.
Actually as I mentioned in my earlier post, one of the things we have in mind is to add support for contact categories, and this could indeed include adding contacts by category (or by "All Categories"). This should increase "usability", which as you can probably see was one of our main concern during development.
A nice looking UI is simply useless if not effective at accessing information. And most photo dialers or FAV apps fall short exactly in this area. With most of those apps, once you add more than a handful of contacts you simply get lost, because they lack indexing, sorting, direct access to contacts by initial and so on. And then you have to access a separate application and UI to make any little change to your contacts.
That's why, together with the 3D interface, we also focused on sorting, and indexing, or jumping to a contact by simply pressing the corresponding letter on the thumbboard or software panel, and making sure that all kinds of contact management tasks could be performed directly from Face Contact.
As for the size of pictures, actually, we already have support for that, as we handle different screen sizes and resolutions (so internally we are able to cope with different dimensions). But we don't expose any method to let the user resize the interface, which indeed could be another improvement.
Last but not least, as for the guy who just posted the crack here, I don't know exactly what the rules are here at "xda-DEVELOPERS", but I have a feeling he probably did it on purpose after reading my comments of how "stupid" all this is.
To put the whole thing in perspective, I'll say that seeing your own worked cracked hours after it's released, tells you that you probably released something good, or nobody would have bothered.
The stupidity is that, as it is now, something between 5% and 10% of the size of the binaries is probably code dealing with the registration, encrypting keys, supporting a black list to disable keys to are made public, and so on. Which is completely useless stuff.
And it took hours to crack anyway.
The idea of spending more time developing more useless stuff (to make the software more difficult to crack) simply make me sick. And I know, someone at the end will still crack it after a while, and in the meantime the binaries will be larger and slower, because of all this useless stuff.
And you never end.
So, as far as we are concerned, instead then focusing on developing features, we waste time on such useless stuff, trying to make the life of whoever is cracking more difficult. Which means that the cracker himself will also waste more time to succeed at cracking, instead than using his time and abilities to do anything useful. And so on and on and on.
And in the meantime, as a byproduct, the software itself gets larger, slower and full of useless stuff.
That's exactly how stupid it is.
im using the trial
the only request or thing thatd keep me from buying it is
1. it starts at one and not "centered"
2. it doesnt have an option to revolve
3. there isnt an option to hide the name or set it as name only... meaning no (h) (m) or (txt)
these are all simple fixes im sure, if these options could be added, im sure many users besides myself would love and purchase it.
great job guys, keep up the good work
I'm pretty sure that user will get banned as it's xdas policy not to allow warez. too bad for that user.
Looks like a nice app... but i don't have that many contacts with pictures. Would be great for someone that does though i bet.

it comes with icons and the option to choose a cropped picture of your choice.... its quite cool... especially if they allow it to revolve!
Hey Michael,
thanks for your feedback.
I'm not sure I understood everything you suggest though:
1) yes, at startup, or after a soft reset, it shows the beginning of the list, but thereafter it simply stays wherever you leave it... so if you leave it on a contat at the center of the list, it will remain there, until you move to a different contact, and so on... I'm afraid I don't understand what you are suggesting...
Or do you mean "centered within the today screen"?
If the latter is the issue simply go to the Contact Manager and then Menu > Display Options, and check the "Hide plugin icon" options... this will make it "centered".
2) By revolve, do you mean start all over when you are at the end of the list?
If this is the case, actually we considered this (and as you suggest it should be pretty easy to implement). The point is that it may get "confusing", because you could be missing a contact and simply go through the list again and again without even realizing. Also, if contacts are sorted, seeing "A" after "Z" could also be a little puzzling.
Anyway, if this is what you meant, we'll experiment and see if it actually makes sense without becoming distracting (as I said it is something that we were considering to at the beginning of development).
By the way, are you aware that you can instantly jump to the beginning or end of the list by pressing an appropriate key (on your thumbboard or software input panel)?
3) this is indeed easy... and as I think of it now, I understand that there are actually some people who don't have their "work contacts" on the phone, and only have "friends and family"... so indeed, as you suggest, the option of displaying only the name should be given.
I have some concern though on hiding completely the caption... as this would also remove the Index-Tracking letter while scrolling, which I believe is quite helpful if you have many contacts, as it tells you where you are in the list while scrolling.
The same applies the (m), (h), etc. which is meant to give you a clue of the number called if you simply hit the START CALL key of your phone... which is the quickest and easiest way to place a call with Face Contact....
So it seems quite important to know in advance what number is going to be called., huh?
But nevertheless, as you said, all such things could be just "options": we could set the "default" at the same settings we have now, and then give each user the ability to change them as preferred.
So thanks for your feedback.

Sunscape

Project Orphaned and/or looking for main developer!
First of all I'd like to say thank you to the community of people who helped bring Sunscape this far. The people from xda developers, as well as those who joined in the meanwhile make this forum an excellent place to start, maintain, develop and most importantly test any type of software.
Sadly, I lack the resources, for example time, to continue my development of Sunscape. During the time I've been writing and testing this program I have tried to provide an alternative to what we already have on the market. I'm currently looking to orphan the project and/or find a main developer to co-author the program. Perhaps somebody with more talent, will and desire to continue Sunscape.
Thus, if there's anybody willing to either take up the whole project and move on with it, or be the main developer of this project with my assistance, I would very much be interrested. Please let me know, I'll keep checking my messages to see if somebody is interested. Thank you!

[About]
Sunscape is an opensource alternative to the iPhone lock. Sunscape tries to allow the user to fully configure the screen locker down to the very last details as well as maintaining a small memory footprint and trying to be as compatible as possible with very many different devices.
[Requirements]
This app has been tested on an Axim x51v and by a couple of people reporting it to be stable enough. It's ongoing development so I appreciate any kind of complaint, suggestion, bug, code modification or anything else you'd like to do. These are the minimum requirements:
Windows Mobile 5 onward (sorry wm2003 users out there)
Compact Framework 2.0
[Features]
R2U (rub to unlock) and S2U (slide to unlock)
vga/qvga anything, depends what you configure it to be!
fully configurable interface (including graphics etc...) based on a documented XML file with configuration tool.
on screen display for time, date, appointments, alarms.
on screen display of battery, messages, notes, emails, signal, weather, etc...
uses pressure-points instead of "slide to unlock", future releases will include other nifty ways to unlock based on touch.
has a small memory footprint and triggers based on time and load opposed to OEM "backlight" triggers.
can hotswap portrait vs landscape, ie, it will automatically switch to landscape or portrait mode on supported devices.
has separate configuration options for both modes portrait and landscape.
supports fully configurable full screen callerID and answer or reject by reaching a pressure point.

Stable releases are those who were thoroughly tested by several people. They don't contain the latest features, modifications or bugfixes but they are bound to work and be compatible with the themes you've seen above. Snapshot releases are development releases with new features and enhancements and are thus prone to not work correctly. In either case, if you've found a bug, please report it and I'll fix it asap!

[Install]
If you downloaded the CAB file, just copy to your device and install as normal. In case you've downloaded the stable version, you'll find the CAB file in SunscapeCAB/Release and you can copy it to your device and install.
You will have three utilities installed: Sunscape - this is the main program and, when launched, will stay resident until the CPU Threshold is below the configured value; Sunscape Remote - this utility will help you control Sunscape while it is running; Sunscape Unlock - this will turn off Sunscape completely; Sunscape Config - this is the main configuration tool including some documentation. However, if you wish to theme for Sunscape, please refer to the Sunscape.xml file since it's a bit more detailed.
[Uninstall]
Please first run Sunscape Unlock.exe and then uninstall. Also, if you've created a shortcut with Sunscape Config, please remove it from either Sunscape Config or from the \Windows\Startup folder.

The one that comes with Windows Mobile 6 Professional(latest official HTC ROM), so - 2.0.
Hmm, tried a hard reset on a TyTN II - works...
Installed to storage card or device? Install to storage card doesn't work.
EDIT: It would be helpful if you can say what that error actually is...
It's working now - I reinstalled it to main storage, previous it was on storage card. Tomorrow I'll continue with testing.

Great! Ok, about the 12hr clock - doesn't it respect the regional settings? ie: if you've set your pda to 12hr clock doesn't it respect that? If not - I'll add a 12hr option in the configuration file. Easily done!
Lock on wakeup - Ok here's the thing. The previous version went exactly that way but I moved away from that for two reasons:
1.) The code was overly proprietary - believe it or not but it's like... very hard to tell when a power event is triggered. Ok not hard, but it MAY happen that different device types send different codes. I implemented it using the standard WM_BACKLIGHT_OFF on an Axim51v and to my surprise it wasn't working on an Eten (figures it used another code).
2.) The previous version was a bit slow - it happened that I wanted to turn on my phone to access some files quickly and instead of turning on quickly and accessing the files I was sitting there watching the screen lock... Annoying indeed!
In both cases, I'll see if there's some way around it (ie: to not use power events) and lock the screen on startup through some option in the configuration file.
Thanks again!
Not working
I hope i did really everything right but i get a unhandeld exception occured.
Hermes 300 offical WM6 German Version.
Installed on main memory
then i installed NET3.5 with reboot.
no way -> unhandeld exception
Time: no for some reason it doesnt respect the regional settings, i have mine set to US Central time, and it shows up with 24 hour clock regardless.
Lock: no big deal, i know what you mean about staring at the screen, i had the same prob with S2U2, thats why i dont use it anymore, but thanks for the heads up.
does it have a full screen caller ID like S2U2 cause thats the main reason i use it S2U2

Nope. Actually it should exit on an incoming call and let other "better" programs handle it. If it is a request, I can implement it and make it optional.

[DEV] DiamondDownloadManager 0.03 now available!

After doing my ActionScreen, I realised I could adapt the framework very easily to create a download manager.
Currently, the only applications on it are ones that I've hardcoded, although I'm almost certainly going to extend it to 3rd party software, and probably build in some form of updates system...
I will also be implementing this as an "add ons" system to a ROM I'm working on. E.g. it's a very light ROM with a long list of cabs that can be downloaded and installed from one place.
Why am I posting it here you may ask... Well, I want to get some ideas for what to do, and see what people think of it before I release it.

What I'm hoping to do:
Application categories
Sorting by developer
Submissions (two levels, trusted - have been checked, and untrusted - haven't been checked but have warnings plastered all over them)
Details screen with a screenshot and some text
Proper updates mechanism
Kinetic list scrolling (I just can't be asked to derive displacement from velocity at the moment...)
Warning, this may destroy your device, and possibly the planet, but I cannot be held responsible!
Cab attached below, backup anything you care about, copy it across install and run...
0.04 is identical (bar the fact that it thinks its 0.04 instead of 0.03...), but is hosted somewhere else to demonstrate the current update mechanism.
Reserved for me
Looks good so far!
I would initially focus on included barebone (trusted) apps in the download manager (with auto-update notification functionality) and eventually branch it out to 3rd party apps...
This notion in general is the one (and only) thing that the iphone has over all other devices currently
great idea

Currently, there are nine applications I've built from the Diamond 2.03 ROM (the Blackstone Manila is from mun_rus), and no form of update function has been implemented.
All the icons and images are the ones the Diamond Comm Manager uses, so changing them changes the skin in this.
Anyone have any ideas for what kind of data base I should use? So far, everything is hardcoded!
looks very nice and clean, as a past nokia user i used to use nokias download manager, maybe you could have folders on the opening/main screen and have dif things also like games, themes, wallpapers etc but keep the folders etc in with the style of manila like uv done so far, very good work, keep it up.

Glad to see MS havn't put you off with their Sky*** stuff
How about colaborating with CRC and his Device Update stuff? He has a killer back end that use Geo Balanced FTP Servers. The client just makes HTTP requests and the server returns XML.
Me and Chainfire were working on it with him, but Chainfire got busy and we were waiting for a "grand design" from him.
Just a suggestion...

There are a few things I need to work on in my frontend (categories, sorting the list, kinetic scrolling etc), and then I need to find a fast, lightweight database system before I can consider having a decent database.
I have tried to contact CRCinAU (DeviceUpdate) and there's some discussion about the Gecko database, which may be potential backends. The thing I don't want to end up with is a completely seperate system. I think to be able to distribute apps in a decent, managed way, all the frontends need to work with a single unified backend, so developers can submit their application once, and only once.
