Qtek 9100 - Help with Wireless - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey guys...
Let me begin by thanking everybody that makes XDA developers the tremendous resource that it is.. It has saved my device on more than one occasion..
Now my problem is that I cant connect on to my University's Wireless config..
They provide us with an Aegis Client which is supposed to work on a PPC 2002/WM 2003 but doesnt work on my Qtek 9100's WM 5.0
I know odyssey client could be configured too... but I really dont want to spend 50 dollars on it (which im not sure works in the first place)
Below are the instructions provided by my Uni.
Configuring Aegis:
Ensure that wireless is enabled.
Tap on the Aegis icon in the lower right corner.
Tap on Client and then Configure.
Add a new profile. Give it any name, such as osuwireless.
In the identity field, type anonymous.
In authentication type, select PEAP.
Under Tunneled authentication:
In the Identity field, type your OSUWireless ID
In the password field type your OSUWireless PIN.
In the Protocol field, select MSCHAPv2.
Select the Server tab:
Uncheck Do not validate server certificate.
Select Equifax Secure Certificate Authority under "Certificate Server". If this is not an option, select Any trusted CA.
In the "Server name must be" box, type ohio-state.edu and select Must contain domain name.
Press OK.
Configuring the wireless network:
Tap on the Wireless Network Utility.
Select Configure from the drop-down menu.
Tap on the osuwireless network to select and choose Move to Configured.
Tap on osuwireless in the configured Networks section and choose Properties
Select the Profile Info tab.
Select osuwirless from the "Authentication profile" pull down menu.
Select the WEP MGMT tab.
Check the Provide encryption key dynamically checkbox.
Select the WPA Settings tab:
WPA Mode = WPA 802.1x
Encryption = TKIP
Tap OK.
Tap OK.
Close the Aegis Client screen.
Your device is ready to use the network.
If you guys can give me another software that could possibly do the same on WM 5.0 please let me know.. Any response would be appreciated..
Thanks..

IP 193.30.166.1
IP Port 9201
APN goto.virginmobile.uk
Login ID user
Password Leave blank
Bearer GPRS
I have entered some of these settings into the Connection that MMS seems to be using but I dont know where to put in the
IP Port and Server URL
Can any one help
Thanks
I don't know which version of windows your using as the MMS composer is different in WM2003SE. I can tell you how I got mine working and its a 2 stage process:
Part 1
1. Create a new connection by coing to Start->Settings->Connections and tap on the Connections icon.
2. Tap on the "Advanced" tab and then tap on the "Select Networks" button.
3. Tap on the lower one of the two "New..." buttons, i.e. the one below the "My Work Network" drop down menu.
4.0 On the "General" tab, enter a name of "Virgin MMS".
4.1 On the "Modem" tab, tap on the "New..." button.
4.3 Enter a name for the connection of "Virgin MMS", select a modem type of "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and then tap on the "Next" button.
4.4 Enter an access point name of "goto.virginmobile.uk" and then tap on the "Next" key.
4.5 Enter a user name of "user", ensure that all other fields are empty and then tap on the "Finish" button.
4.6 On the "Proxy Settings" tab, ensure that the "This network connects to the Internet" is NOT ticked" and then tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
4.7 In the drop down menu for "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:", change this back to "My Work Network" (or whatever was in this field before you started this process).
5. You can now exit from the Settings screens as Part 1 is complete.
Part 2
1. You need to go into MMS composer.
2. In WM2003SE you need to go into the "Tools->MMS Settings" option.
3.0 On the "Preferences" tab, in the "Connect via:" option, enter/select "Virgin MMS".
3.1 On the "Servers" tab, tap on the "New" button.
3.2 Enter a "Server name:" of "Picture Message"
3.3 Enter a "Gateway:" of "193.30.166.1".
3.4 Enter a "Port number:" of "9201". Don't worry if you don't have a "Port number:" field as the system will default to this anyway.
3.5 Enter a "Server address" of "http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002" and then tap on the "OK" button.
3.6 Tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
That's the end of the two stages and you should now be able to send picture and video messages (I've tried both).
Two things to be aware of:
1. The send/receive does seem to take ages.
2. Don't try to send pictures which aren't JPG or BMP as they won't go and you end up thinking that there's a problem with your config. I speak from experience here.
GPRS settings on Vorgin?
Slightly Off topic but I'm trying to Use my xda 1 with virgin and am trying to get the GPRS set up and am struggling, is it essentially the same settings as these?
Many thanks
Nate :?:
The GPRS setting for internet access only involves 1 stage in order to set it up. It's almost exactly the same as the first part of MMS:
1. Create a new connection by going to Start->Settings->Connections and tap on the Connections icon.
2. Tap on the "Advanced" tab and then tap on the "Select Networks" button.
3. Tap on the upper one of the two "New..." buttons, i.e. the one usually below the "My ISP" drop down menu.
4.0 On the "General" tab, enter a name of "Virgin GPRS".
4.1 On the "Modem" tab, tap on the "New..." button.
4.3 Enter a name for the connection of "Virgin GPRS", select a modem type of "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and then tap on the "Next" button.
4.4 Enter an access point name of "goto.virginmobile.uk" and then tap on the "Next" key.
4.5 Enter a user name of "user", ensure that all other fields are empty and then tap on the "Finish" button.
4.6 On the "Proxy Settings" tab, ensure that the "This network connects to the Internet" is ticked and then tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
4.7 In the drop down menu for "Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:", ensure that the "Virgin GPRS" entry is displayed.
5. You can now exit from the Settings screens as your connection set up is now complete. You shouldn't have to do any other config work to use the internet.
Ensure that when you try this connection that you don't have your XDA docked in its cradle or you won't be connecting via GPRS.
Happy surfing.
Thanks mate, thats done it. I have tried almost exactly that and didn't get it quiteright.
Appreciate the help.
Virgin MMS
Have entered this setup info into xda2 But it still wont connect and returns the following message
Dialed:gotovirginmobile.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To
check your connection settings and change
them if needed, tap Settings. If the
problem continues, reset your mobile device
according to your manufactures documentaion
and try again
Help
Thanks
If the above text is exactly what appears on your screen then your problem is easily fixed. It looks like your missing a full stop, i.e. "gotovirginmobile.uk" should be "goto.virginmobile.uk". This is the value you entered in step 4.4 of Part 1.
I tried removing the full stop on my M1000 and I got exactly the same error reported so this should hopefully sort the problem.
Virgin MMS
Sorry my mistake I had put goto.virginmobile.uk in at step 4.4
but omitted it from my previous post
Should the connection for MMS use the same one that internet explorer uses, that one uses one called MOBILE WEB GPRS that appears to have the same setup. Browsing on the internet works OK

O2 MMS/GPRS/Internet Settings

Hey guys,
Wondered if any of you could help me out? I'm on contract with O2 and have the XDAIIi. Now I removed the O2 Active plugin for obvious reasons but find that I now have no connection setup for the internet. I've been to O2 and all they keep doin is giving me instructions on how to get it to connect through the O2 Active interface and I keep telling them I removed it.
I need anyone else who is on a contract, or who has the fully manual setup details to possibly post them so I can get mine setup. I'm talking about 'Modem Type', 'Access Point' etc.
Any help would be great, or a link to somewhere else that has the instructions/settings. I really need the MMS and especially GPRS/internet functionality and I'm getting nowhere with O2.
Ta chaps.
Don't understand...
I removed o2active UI stuff but my settings have remained...
Do you have nothing for your network connections from o2?

Cheers mate, that solved it an I'm now up and running once more!
Auto Setup If THis Helps
Hi Guys
I spent the weekend working on Updating WM2003SE-Sin-Merged-v2.0
(Fantastic work BTW)
I wanted more software installed, automaticly, so spent a long time playing with Sprite, and variouse levels of pre installed software.
whilst playing and restoring factory defaults using the SD backup i had made i found...
On your orriginal Extended bios there is a file called.
o2ActiveUI_engl_4rom.CAB
I installed this, and then found the executable file that used to run on a factory default model, after a hard reset.
(screen asking if you were pay as you go, or pre-paid, or post paid, and which internet setting you wanted installed.
I have now put this file on my XDA in storage, and can run it after a hard reset to setup internet for GPRS and WAP, in just a few second :0p
I have not yet worked out if i can do the same thing with MMS as i believe MMS was updated drematicly with WM2003 SE.
any way, dont know if it helps anyone. but thought id let you know.
IF anyone wants more info on what i have done, ask here, and ill try to write a less rush, and more detailed post.

Quick newbie question (GPRS setting o2-uk)

Hi,
Sorry for this is a newbie question...
Should the GPRS settings be installed if I do a non-corperate install?
Mine arnt, and using settings from the web doesnt seem to work. I have used GPRS on my other phone with this sim card, so its data enables. If I put an Orange sim card in the Mini s I can use Oranges` GPRS settings no problem. *But i would really like to stay with o2)
If anyone has a fool-proof step by step guide I would be greatful to see it.
ANY help at all would be greatfully recived!!!
Thanks, Paul
PS I have searched this great forum, but couldnt find anything with an answer.
GPRS
are you sure you have the GPRS connection settings on the phone?
the way to check is go to
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS
here you will see what connection is being used and what other connection are available to be used. if the O2 settings are not there you can add them manually.
add the settings from here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
hope this helps.
Ash
Hi, Thanks for the sppedy reply.
If i go...
I have just re-installed to a basic setup
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS
the option in the drop box is My ISP or I can choose M Work Network, should o2 mobile web be in here too?
If i go
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS>MANAGE EXISTIN CONNECTIONS>(this brings you to the My ISP page) i have Name as "Mobile Web" and Number as mobile.o2.co.uk.
If I then edit, the name for the connection is "Mobile Web" with modem as "Cellular line (GPRS) Next>Access pont name is "mobile.o2.co.uk" NEXT> user name "O2web", password is ****************.
Tap ADVANCE>the TCP/IP tab is using server assigned IP address, TAP ON SERVERS TAB>USE SPECIFIC SERVER ADDRESS (DNS 193.113.200.200, alt DNS is 193.113.200.201). Tap OK> FINISH
If i try to connect to the net to look at google (or any other page) the large square G turns smaller with the 2 arrows and I get:
Cannot connect
Dialed mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check and change settings BLAH BLAH BLAH....
All help appriciated!!!
Thanks, Paul.
ooops!!!
double post
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS select my isp here
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS>MANAGE EXISTIN CONNECTIONS
settings should be
acces point : mobile.o2.co.uk
username : mobileweb
password : password
don't bother to enter dns settings as your phone will pick them up
Hi, after (another) install these are my settings...
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS select my isp here
<<<these are exactly as you said>>>>
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS>MANAGE EXISTIN CONNECTIONS

Stupid question, I don't know the imate site at all - where can you find these settings, specifically Vodafone I'm looking for. I had a browse but couldn't see them.
Thanks,
John
Thanks Waiho.
I am now able to send MMS on my T-Mobile Vario phone with my o2 Sim.
Can I just highlight that should anyone need to do the MMS config part of your instructions. That they will also need to setup the GPRS WAP settings.
Thanks all. You peeps really are appreciated. This website has done what T-Mobile wanted to charge £15 and a 28 day wait, in 1/2 day (remember I am still learning).

I have them here.. If only I knew how to upload them to the FTP Server here.

To use FTP you can use IE or your fav ftp client, plenty of free ones out there on google, let us know when you have uploaded them. Oh, and name them well & add a txt file saying what they are, where they came from etc.
Many Thanks..

Thanks a lot for the settings, I'll give them a shot later.
Are there any restrictions on incoming message sizes on Vodafone?
I thought it was my P900 that was at fault, it would get to about 47% and then bomb out with an unknown error. But, it received a picture the other day fine, previously it received video messages ok but they were perhaps smaller than the ones I've been sent recently.
The Wizard doesn't have a progress bar but it seems to be doing the same thing, it seems to do nothing for a while then just comes up with an error. It seems to connect to GPRS ok, and remains connected afterwards so I assume the settings are fine.

got it working mate. thanks
I have followed these instructions carefully, setting up the "work connection" as instructed. This works to give me internet access - good.
But it doesn't give me email access over GPRS. If I try to use email I get the "cannot connect with the current connection settings" error message.
Does email access expects to use "my ISP" instead of "work connection"? Does anyone have a solution to this?
Julian
PS Agile Messenger also fails to work with these GPRS settings.
A nice man at O2 data support just answered my question fully:
The "work connection" settings should be wap.o2.co.uk, o2wap/password with proxy settings 193.113.200.195 (WAP port 9201).
The "my ISP" settings should be mobile.o2.co.uk, o2web/password, and DNS 192.113.200.200/192.113.200.201.
Now I've set both these up correctly GPRS access now works as I would hope - both email and web access nice and fast.
The man also confirmed that wifi takes precedence over GPRS - if you have a wifi connection that will be used, with a GPRS connection being made only if a wifi one is not in place.
Julian happy again

HELP PLEASE moving from Vodafone to O2??????

Hi
I wonder if anyone here can help me please.
I have the Vodafone 1605 version of the Hermes all configured (surprise surprise) for Vodafone.
I have just moved over to o2 on one of theier sim only contracts and really want to continue to use mt Hermes phone.
HOWEVER I cannot get 3G to work for video calling, or my browser to work.
I have an email from o2 to do the setup but I cannot really make much sense of it.
I have downloaded from wiki the o2 cab and installed this but again without any lsuccess.
I am doing something silly?
Cheers.
Robin
Hi Robin
Oh dearie me - this could take a while!!
First I would make sure the vodaphone settings are gone. Which my not be as easy as it sounds but we can try.
Go to Start>settings>connections>connections icon Tap the "Manage existing connections" entry. There will be an entry in the list. To start afresh tap and hold it and an option to delete comes up. Delete it. The list should be empty, if not continue this until it is.
This done do a soft reset and then go back to same place to make sure list is still empty.
If the old settings come back then we have a problem with the voda customisation.
If the list is still empty this is good!
You can then try the following:
I suggest sticking to the first RED GPRS part initially - NOTE the different entries for Payg and Contract.
Then skip to the paragraph below entitled PROXY

Hi Mike
Now that is what I call a comprehensive reply!!!!!
MANY, many thanks.
I have been told that o2 forgot to add the GPRS provision to my account and that it won't be active until tomorrow so I will wait until then so i can test each step of the way.
Again my thanks for sucha complete reply.

I've also got the Vodafone 1605 and use it with both vodafone and O2 SIM cards. I did dump the vodafone ROM ages ago so I don't know if there is anything in the VOD ROM which will prevent other operators settings from working.
I use the attached cab files which make my set-up work for whichever SIM is fitted. The Bandswitch program just lets me switch on or off connection settings for the operator I'm using - it works a treat and is very quick.

I have just seen the new cabs posted and am debating wether to leave whaqt i have working, working OR..........
To try the cabs and see if they complete the job.

I hope that is the worst of your troubles... my 12 months with O2 were horrendous. I ended up, amongst other things, paying for things such as MMS allowances when my account on their system was misconfigured in such a way that it never actually worked properly. customer support is a bloody nightmare, having to deal with the tier 1 CSRs made me want to pull my hair out at times.
all I can say is that i'm glad the (web-only?) sim only packages are one-month rolling contracts. There's two reasons I moved away from O2 - their customer support and their tariffs. curiously enough, those are also the two reasons I'll be staying with T-Mobile for the foreseeable future, unless they ever stopped doing flat-rate 3G!
if you still need help later / tomorrow, I'll dig out my old XDA 2i and get the gprs and mms settings off it if that'll help you (the phone is in Brum and I'm not, at least until the evening).
I have to say that talking to their support trying to set up this phone has not been a pleasant experience.
I really liked the look of t-mobile, particularly the fast data rates available and good tariffs BUT I got my wife a t-mobile Pay as you go phone a couple of weeks ago and it is unusable where we live.
No signal in the house and very spotty around the village.
I tried to return it but they insisted their system said I had a signal so would not take it back!!!!!!!
Again many thanks for all the help.
Robin
