hopefully a simple one this...
I'm using VJSMS (the new version) and want to create simple icons just with a bit of text on them (or a photo) so I know who each one is for. I'm using SPB Pocket Plus to give me instant access to these SMS shortcuts.
However, I cannot find how to let it display my new icons!!!
I can find how to change an icon within SPB, but it only gives me a choice of its own icons, not the ones I've put on my SD card.
I can see how to use the "Default Icon" which presumably is set within WM2005...
But how do I get it to show my custom icons? If I could change (per shortcut) the icon it uses within WM2005, this would be enough.
timetex - does the new version work ok?
Check here for some info on new icons

Some guys have posted about how to make icons for this launcher, but I'm afraid I've never used it. I'll try to remember who asked and how they sorted it, but AFAIK there's a limit on how many custom icons you can have?

Hi,
after trying ver much today plugins etc, I finally found what I really want and need. I made a rough sketch of my idea, mybe someone could give me a hint, how to realize that?
Basically I just need to see date/time in the top bar (I think there's some registry setting for that?), a weather plugin, and a calender preview (like today agenda) and a launcher, where I can switch between calendar and launcher. I know this should be possible, just not exactly how. Pocket Breeze for example is too overloaded with iLauncher integrated, and I don't need a separate tab for tasks for example. On the other hand, the touch homescreens weather plugin never updates it's view, it always shows the weather from the last sync, not the current one. Without data flatrate and a resulting occasional USB update, I never have the current weather shown
As you say I think there's a reg setting for the time + date in the title bar. (I think I've seen the option in Tweak2K2.NET.)
You can remove the Day + Date + time today item using the Settings -> Today configuration.
For weather I use SpbWeather, which can show 4 days of weather across a 240px wide screen.
Edit: Additionally I use ScaryBear QuickTasks for the tasks list.
That should cover some of what you want. For meetings you may be able to achieve using the standard today plugin anyhow.
the builtin calender plugin show not enough upcoming meetings, but I can use TodayAgenda for that, which also shows tasks. Only thing I don't like with TodayAgenda, it doesn't use category colors...
For weather weatherpanel could be nice, seen that in a thread below this one. Biggest problem with most weather plugins is the inflexibility with updates, what I need is "update only on activeSync".
What I couldn't find so far is a tabbed interface, that integrates a Launcher and the TodayAgenda, with a large button to switch between views (don't want a stylus on today screen)
Edit: hm, I have the correct registry value for date/time in the taskbar:
To show both the date and the clock:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TBOpt = 1 (DWORD decimal)
but it doesn't show. When I leave the homescreen, I see the clock, on the homescreen itself nothing. I have HTC taskmanager installed, which I like, maybe it prevents that? Also the HTC touch homescreen is installed, which shows the time, but I don't like it, so I disabled the today plugin, but maybe it diesabled the clock?
for weather you can try to the free program of weather-to-go (you can set it to update only on activesync)
http://tonaya.com/products/wtg/index.php
for meetings and tasks, I do like todayagenda. i believe there are some color options that are in the program (I haven't personally used).
for the launcher (without the use of a stylus) you can use claunch and have it set to large icons in the options. if you want it specifically integrated into one section with the calendar, i don't know of a launcher that's integrated into the calendar except for loaded programs from spb or sbsh.
there was a program that showed the date as small text underneath the time. found it...it was pbar. it's also a useful task manager (better than vbar). also free.

for the new on the bottom left softkey, you can look for and install wmnewmenu and map it to the left key (i forget if it's an option in the program. if not, you can look for the softkey mapper...think it's by dotfred) and map it.

I searched a bit on pocketage, there seems to be no homepage or anything...
The "new" menu I have already running...
I don't need a calendar with integrated launcher, I just need a 2-tabbed interface with acalendar preview and a launcher... this can be one, two or three separate tools if need be...

for a two-tabbed launcher, claunch should be able to work. it defaults with 8 tabs, but you can set in options to only have 2 tabs and rename them as you see fit.
Check SPB Mobile Shell

I need to have the calendar preview in one tab, so it's not actually a 2-tabbed launcher, but more a tabbed interface for two today plugins...

hmm...that's gonna be tricky. i don't recall seeing any free software that does that. i do know that spb and sbsh have a today plugin that will integrate the calendar into a tab. i think one of them also the ability to add other third party today plugins in their their tabs as well (based on past experience when i tried this software, but i can't reconfirm from my current access due to stupid websense in the network)
SPB Mobile Shell looks nice so far, just have to get a bit into it's customizability. Only checked the old version, but with the new one and it's Professional Now screen, it looks quite good...

or not?
I found this great program online a few days ago thats very good for (especially for noobys) at allowing you to customize icons right on your ppc. Ive tried it extensivley with .png icons that is use for my iFonz screen. All you need to do is copy and paste the icon you want to customize into My Documents/My Pictures, and bring up the PaintApp. You can zoom in to single block view which in my opinion makes customizing extremely easy. It also has a feature which alows you to resize your icons simply by entering in the size desired. If your creative enough, choose your size, and make one from scratch. This program is also just fun to use. Below is the .cab file for the program. This is great for people who have no experience making icons.
Tip, use something simple like a blank calendar or calculator icon as your base if you want to make a completley new icon. It makes it easier to know the outline of what you want.
Hope you enjoy this. I do.
it looks great
thank you so much for bringing this nice prog here
cheers

Could you go into detail on what you do to customize your icons? I use iFonz also and I would Love to fix my own iPhone icons to work with iFonz...
Details
Here's some details like you asked for in the second reply. Im just going to tell you what I use it for. First, to make changes to an icon, copy it to My Pictures located in My Documents. That's the only folder it reads. When you install the app the first time you run it, it will give you an option 4 a tutorial mode. Do it. Anyway.. Once you bring up whatever icon you chose, you have all sorts of options. You can change the color , the size, everything . Then save it. Go bak and copy/paste it back 2 the original folder or wherever you want and there you go. Also , my favorite, you can create your own icon from scratch. Just select the option to create a new file or image, whatever its called. Then choose the option to chae the size. Set it to whatever size you want, 44x44 , 42x42, and have at it. Just mess around and you'll figure out how to make them rounded like the default icons. Now here's a tip to make this easier. If you want to make you own custom icon, copy and paste a realy simple, almost blank default icon, like the calendar icon or the stock lines icon to My Pictures. open it up in the program. use your zoom feature too zoom in pretty close. Select the paintbrush, use white and erase everything inside the icon except the Main outline. This way you have a border to go by and keep it the same shape and size. That's what I do and it works great. Another great feature is being able to cut and paste images from one to another. Just take any image, ( I used a Yahoo! image from the web) , save it to My Pictures , and open it in the program. Change the size to 1 less or the same as the icons your using. Then select the cut option , outline the image the select the 'cut to clipboard' option. Next choose the open option, (dont save chaes when it asks), open the icon you want to use as an outline, or whatever icon you want to put the image on. Paste the image to the icon and then zoom in and use your tools to touch it up. I've made google, yahoo msn, hundred icons that look great! Its really simple. You've just got to play around. Its just a paint app like on you desktop, on your ppc! Its zoom feature just makes it so easy to work on icons. Im posting this from my vogue, so sorry if spelling and puctuation aren't perfect. Ill post some of my icons tomorrow for u to check out. hope you enjoy. and post any icons you come up with guys!
Thanks! ima give it a try =)
Why homescreen shortcuts aren't seen is beyond me, however I have noticed that there are two shortcuts found on the homescreen already. Call History and Calender, pressumebly all these do is reference a location on the device.
So my question is, can we make it so we can add our own shortcuts, to link to another location or possibly an application?
Adam
I would donate 25 dollars or euros for anyone who can pull this off, I almost can't live without my tasks there
If you both are talking about ammending the 2 right and left shortcuts on TF3D Home tab then you should go search around.. Its possibel to change with many apps or via registry..

I've already managed to do this with an application called TouchFlo Detacher.
I'm referring to the two shortcut links placed underneath the clock or to the right of it when in landscape mode. You can't miss them.
I'm just wondering if it's possible to add or change them.
I found a way looking in many forums, they say you need to use a famous tool called ssmaho... try to look here on xda, where it's hosted. I downloaded it but I don't understand how to use it... so far no luck in linking pocket informant to calendar and home tabs. any help would be very appreciated!
Change yes, add too, probably not
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497197 for various changes
But I can't get the plugings working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508102 to add Tasks
This thread is very old however I don't like to create threads for questions which have been already asked:
I use a Jackos Hybrid ROM with WM6.1 + Sense 2.1 (fastest I've ever seen), but I miss at least 2-3 shortcuts to most popular programs on my homescreen. Is there a theme or a patch which couls allow me to put non-standard shortcuts directly on my HS? Independently on the history and calendar fields.
I've tried google, but there are tons of unnecessary information but I couldn't find anything helpful. Here, on xda, I've found information about some mods (like MaxManila) but none is reported to work with WM6.1. Besides these mods are heavy, and I don't need a comprehensive application but a small patch to have 3 icons on HS.
Thanks in advance guys (and girls of course)!
As above really -
Got a ton of icons on my storage card, but I have no idea how I can change the icons I'm currently using to the ones on the storage card. Or is it a lot more difficult than it sounds?

It IS possible, but I'll let one of the more experienced people here tell you exactly how (I'm not well-versed on the process.....yet).
But, in the meantime, would you be willing to zip up your icon collection and sharing it? I'm always looking for new icons to use...I can already replace them on the slider bar, next thing to learn is the program ones
Icons for Windows Mobile phone
Of course! I can't remember where I got them all - so I'm hoping the creators are happy for me to share them out.
536 icons in total (although there are a few duplicates - I mean 2 different icons for the same program).
Enjoy!
The question of how easy it is depends on which OS you're running... if it's 6.5 I recommend using JWMD's Icon Changer, but many recommend Showaco's reSTART. The 'how to' instructions for each app can be found in that thread I just linked.
If it's 6.1 it's more cumbersome as you have to edit the link. I don't bother with it and instead customize whatever shell I'm using at the time.
You're welcome to grab any of my folder icons listed in my sig
Thanks for the links!
Do these same programs change the icons on the home tab? I like the icons in my start menu, but the icons on the home tab are different for the same programs.
So what is the process for getting custom icons onto the tablet and having them properly associated with their respective apps?
Say, I have a new Browser icon I want to use... what's the next step?
Can 'o' worms question, I know...
Personally I use folder organizer (from the market). It allows you to change an icon for a particular app or create a folder with several app in it. For example, a games folder with the icon of your choice will open a folder with whatever games you put in it (and can customize those icons as well)
Hope that helps.
Thanks Steve, I'll take a look at that now.
EDIT***
Okay, sorta works but a little too convoluted... You have to change each icon individually then add each app you've changed as a widget. I'm looking to do something more in the way of an icon pack that will swap out all the icons at once (of the ones I've made and apps supported).
I use Desktop Visualizer; however, this is also a 'one at a time' process.
I am not familiar with a process to change the icons 'en mass'.
This is a great thread for icon packs and there's some basic information on changing icons in the first post. It's possible though, that one of the icon developers listed in the thread will be able to answer your question.
Thanks for the info Franwella
I'll make my morning reading.
