Pocket ie try to save jpg instead of displaying them - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I'm sure there is somebody here that can help me. I've set up my SPV M5000 with some old programs, and they certainly messed up with the registry about file associations.
I can display jpg normaly, but if I try to see a jpg file (ie not embeded into a web page), I get the file save dialog. At first, it was registered to pimg.exe, and I tryed associating to to pocket painter for example, with no luck.
Anybody know the key to place to go back to a normal jpg displaying state for pocket ie?
TIA

I've the same problem.

Mine is the same but I've installed nothing that would affect the file associations...
I think perhaps it's just another of the joyful 'features' of Microsoft's wonderful Pocket Internet Explorer

Does it do the same with a gif or bmp?
V

That's exactly what I had on mine. I didn't get to the bottom of it, but instead did what vijay suggested and created a local html file with the jpg embedded. All I needed was to view a single jpg within PIE (from my webcam). This works fine, but is a workaround only for 1 jpg. I wouldn't want to do this for everything!
Surely one of the File Explorer tools can change the file associations?

I think the problem lies within PIE, when you click a pic it assumes its an attachment and so will save it,
I cant try atm but its worth trying to goto a pic directly ie,
http://www.website.com/picture.jpg
it may well display the image then, not sure, cant test atm. and its not going to be very useful when doing some normal browsing.

Same with Gif. I've teste on a K-Jam, and it display the picture properly in ie. I'm sure there is something messed up in registry

Found the solution
There is a CLSID value missing in HKCR/MIME/Database/Content Type/image/jpg and other gif and jpeg
Add a string value CLSID
{698E3FCA-70C3-11D0-81E8-00A0C90AD21A} and you are set.

@thaihugo
Won't work for me.
I've tried with PHM RegEdit but same behaviour as before.
Can you give us a screen shot of the correct registry key, please?
BTW:
There is another string "Image Filter CLSID" and
there is a "Bits"-key in /gif and /bmp and /jpeg but not in /jpg.
Are these needed too?

OK now it works.
What i've done is:
Created and copied the CLSID mentioned above into
image/bmp
image/gif
image/jpeg
image/jpg
image/pjeg
Copy the "Bits" from /jpeg to /jpg
Created a "Image Filter CLSID" in /jpg with the same content as found in /jpeg
Save, wait and Softreset. -> Works as intended!
I don´t know if i've done to much, but everything works now.
I'm happy. Thank you!

I though it was my programs that would delete this keys, but it seems you need to insert them also. Maybe it is a full system bug? A registry export might be of some help if some other report the same problem.

This still isn't quite working for me...
Can someone explain again EXACTLY what I have to do?

Hmm - interesting stuff - will have to try this.
I assume this isn't going to affect other JPG viewers, eg Opera???

I have the same problem on both Hima and Universal WM2006
Himalaya > TOFCLOCK HIMA WM6 AKU.0.7.0
Universal > Jwrightmcps 9000_WWE_21200_21207_11500
The registry solution proposed doesn't work for me, probably due a different CSLID. Any suggestion?
THX

Many thanks to CouchPotato
@CouchPotato
Thank youuuu, your step by step solution worked fine for me on BA (WM6)

Attention anybody with Total Commander installed: a request

Could someone who has Total Commander installed on their Hermes quickly load it up, find a JPEG image on their device (if you don't have one, just snap a random photo with the camera) and then in Total Commander, tap and hold, go to Properties, go to the Associate tab, and hit Associate... please?
Once in there, could you copy out what values you have set for the image file association, so I can copy them onto my device to get image viewing working again! I installed DAVA 2003 and it's somehow royally screwed up my image assocation settings (all images are loaded in Internet Explorer, except they load completely wrong, the system tries to load them via iexplore.exe with the parameter file\:%1 which of course won't work)... Basically, either screenshot + upload your settings (which work properly of course ), or write them into a reply, just so I can get the right settings again! I reallllllly don't want to have to hard reset just to fix this one problem, but the default file association information is nowhere to be found on the Internet (at least as far as I looked, could be in subscription-only area of MSDN but I don't know and don't have a login anyway, but that site is a minefield anyhow)...
Much kudos and quite possibly a few eBeers will be sent to any person who can help me this quandary!
I'll upload a photo of the settings tonight! Just tried with a SE K610i and the camera is really bad close up!
Phil
If you're after a screencapture app, I got Capture Screen free from fannsoftware.com which does the job alright, dumps the BMPs in the root of your main memory or storage card if you have one installed. 225kb each.
Many thanks for hooking me up with the settings though, it's been driving me NUTS since I managed to bork it! Knew I could rely on this place
Good software that! Here you go.
Phil
edit: would not uload from the tytn
Er.. thanks?
No picture?
for command i have
pimg.exe
for parameter i have
"%1"
Is that what you need?
Bingo!
Works perfectly, thanks to both you guys for taking the time to get the settings for me Can't understand why that application changed the file association settings, cause IEM can't display images in the way it was being made to do... Very annoying.
Muchly appreciated, kudos to you both

Opera Error While Clicking On Links in Pocket Outlook

So I installed Opera.
Then when I get an email with a link on it and I click on it I get the following error:
OperaLauch.exe
The file 'OperaLaunch' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file.
A quick look at the Opera folder shows no file under that name. So out of curiosity I went and did a search on the web. Found only two sites talking about this but they are both in Russian. Great.
So obviously the line in the registry that points towards opening links is pointing to this program. I did a quick search and found a number of registry entries that would normally point to PIE but are not pointing to Opera.
Now I was wondering who here knows the registry entry to open items in Pocket Outlook so it uses PIE. Or even better how to make it work so it opens Opera as the default browser when clicking on items in Pocket Outlook.
Now, don't say to do a hard reset as I won't do it on principle alone, since I am sure someone knows and I am not going to reinstall everything I go just because one line in the registry!
Anyone? Or even so, anyone who had this same issue?

I have had this same problem and the only remedy was to uninstall, I posted this before and no one had any ideas as far as I could tell.
there is similar problem with netfront. U need to set pie as ur default browser, then link will be opened w/o probs in PIE.
btw: opera launch is or should be located in windows folder. try 2 search for file within ur pda
Thanks. But what you have told me I already posted on my original post.
I did a search already with the wildcard word "opera," and nothing called Opera Launcher came up. Then I checked the obvious Opera folder and nothing was there either. Hence why I know the issue could be fixed within the registry. That is what I was asking.
You can't set IE as your default browser because as I am sure you already know, there is no option within PIE to set it back to the default browser.
If I did a search on google I am found the registry entries to change back to PIE but there are a number of registry entries. So it could be fixed without a hard reset. But I wanted to see if anyone had figured out a way to use Opera as the Tab browsing is so much more useful and it is just better.
I have not found a fix for Opera, but as an alternative to having to do a hard-reset and reinstall everything again which is of course a hassle... I found the registry entries to switch back IE as the default.
Beats doing a hard-reset.

Anybody figured out the Opera problem?
Okay, after an in depth search I found the entry regarding OperaLauncher.
There is a stupid key at,
HKEY_local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\efBROWSER
Now I do not know the format to tell it to perhaps use Opera.exe.
Anyone can help?
Bump?.......
Shot, I didnt see this thread until I posted another one that is similar.
But yes, I am interested with finding this too..
Okay, I can see that NO ONE even tried to fix the issue. So I decided to do it myself. I mean, it is not the ultimate fix since I would like for Opera to open as default.
Logic dictates that Opera screwed up somewhere, so what I did was setup PIE to be the default browser by deleting and replacement two specific registry entries.
After that, PIE will still be the main browser when opening links in Outlook, and for everything else I can still use Opera. Since having to copy paste links from Outlook to IE or Opera was annoying enough to delete the browser altogether.
Cheers,
Which key is that?
Check the entry posted on my first post. Delete the Opera entries.
Take a look, type exactly as posted on value 0 and 1 an PIE will start and avoid that silly OperaLauncher problem.
Value 0
Pocket IE
Value 1
:MSPIE
Value 2

Thanks, I was able to this no problems at all and it fixed the issue - at least by defaulting back to PIE without the error.
Hope I read this correctly and following is useful.....
To enable Opera to open links from emails in Pocket Outlook I did the following:
1. Copied 'opera.exe' (not the large dll) from \storage card\progam files\opera to \windows.
2. Found the entry 'operalaunch.exe' in the registry and changed it to 'opera.exe'.
Thats it - Opera launches when clicking hyperlinks in Pocket Outlook.
You only need to make one change:
In HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER is a key called "1". Change the string value from "OperaLaunch.exe" to "\Program Files\Opera\OperaLaunch.exe" (or whereever Opera is actually installed). You need to include the quotes around the string. Save and restart your device. Should work (did for me).
John
Registry Keys
I had the same problems after uninstalling Opera.
Error message: OperaLaunch cannot open , blabla
I had to change the following registrykeys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\wsp\Shell\Open\Command
String Value (Default) = iexplorer.exe %1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\ EFBROWSER
String Value 0 = Pocket IE
String Value 1 = :MSPIE
Good Luck
I managed it just.
I copied all the files from the Opera folder to the windows filder, then changed this,

To just opera.exe
And it worked ... It wouldnt work before, when trying to point it to the storage card, it kept saying "Storage cannot be loaded" or something ... I just realised i had forgot the " from the beginning and end of the string
Operalaunch .exe
hi my friend ,I am having the exact same problem you've had.The only problem being is that I am a novice and know nothing about computers,in other words I am not computer literate so am finding it difficult to understand. Is it possible to help me through it in easy steps if you have the time.Regards Anthony

Utility to Compare Registry ?

Greetings,
I had some strange behaviour recently on my Wizard which after much analysis decided to try a hard reset. It worked like a charm and all is well now.
I had to re-install my programs and settings and I also understand that the registry gets returned to factory defaults.
This leads me to something I remember seeing for Windows XP which was a utility that compared reg keys, either using an original and current copy of the registry as a basis for comparison or a real-time utility that informed the user each time a key got changed.
I don't think the Wizard CPU could cope with the latter but a reg compare utility might be useful for future. Does anyone know of such a beast ? I did do some searching and checked the Wiki but couldn't find anything.
TIA,
Tony
I'm looking for the exact same thing. Certain apps change some settings after an install and I want to go into the registry and delete them.
Does anyone know of a good FREE app on the PC side to compare the contents of 2 txt files??
I found SPB Backup backs up the registry into a few text files (this is after you extract them from the backup).
I'm looking for something like this, but free : www.grigsoft.com/wincmp.htm
Personally, I use an XML query of he Reg CSP and then use an XML comparison tool (XML Notepad 2007) to look at whats changed.
I think you have a couple of decent options here... firstly, you could install PHM Registry Editor on the PPC, export the registry both before and after any changes you make. Then copy the exported files to the PC and check for changes using Windiff. This will tell u what has been added, changed or removed between the two files.
Alternatively, take a look at SKTracker (Google) - this app lets you take snapshots before and after, then compare (registry and file changes).
I've used both methods with success, see what you think.

Excel Saving problem

I've searched but cannot find any info about this.
I recently upgraded to a 8125 (WM5)from a iPAQ 2215 (Pocket PC 4.20). Now when editing most (not all) of my Excel files I get a "unsupported content" when I try to save it. It give me the option of saving as another name, discard or cancel.
It doesn't matter what I edit, whether it is text or a number. The files do not have any macros, just simple equations.
My desktop is running WinXP with Office 2003.
Thanks in advance.

I get something similar: "An error occurred saving 'filename'", and then the file closes with no modifications.
I have to do a File Save As... and give the file a new, slightly different name if I want to save new data. This doesn't happen with every file I use, but it has happened with files imported via ActiveSync as well as with files I have created on the 8125 itself
Hmmm, I never had any problems! Can one of you post one if this mysterious files? But take off your personal information and critical data first from that file! Would be interesting to see if it happens on mine too ...
When I get the error, I can save it as another name with no problem. It is a hassle, because I edit the files on the desktop PC and the 8125. I have not done any upgrades to the 8125, it is the way I got it from Cingular, except for a few programs that I installed which are the same ones I had on my older iPAQ.
I uploaded one of the files that I have the problem with. I cleared all the data and left the equations. I checked it after I did this and it still will not save without making me change the filename.
Works fine on mine! Had no problems adding contents and saving it! Maybe you had the file open twice? This happens if you do not close Excel properly or if you open it by clicking on the file. Excel might have been already open with that file in the background and therefore you only would be able to save it under a different name since the file still would be in use.
Thanks for giving it a try. The problem is not that it's already open. If I do a soft reset, then open the file, modify it and then close I get the message.
Post your PDA specs.
I have had this problem when saving to the Memory card. When it does this I just save to main memory and copy over via Resco, not ideal...but it beats carrying a laptop.

Yes, but I've only had it for about 3 weeks. The files are all the same that I've used with my iPAQ with no problems.
Yes it happens....
Check this, http://softmaker.com/english/ofp_en.htm
It has to be a very good reason to have this company in business selling substitutes for pexcel and pword. According to what they advertise that reason is that pexcel and pword are not 100% compatible with the desktop versions, so whenever an xls or doc file made in desktop is modified and saved under the same name in a PPC is very likely that some formats, functions etc. will be affected or lost, so M$ PPC awares (probably not in the best way) the user that the files made in the desktop are going to change and will lost some features, formatting, etc.
I was having the same problem on an iPaq hx4700 running Windows Mobile 5. Some Excel Mobile files would only save changes when I used save as and gave them another name. I found the following link while trying to resolve the issue:

I searched my device for Temp0FOO files and deleted them. After that I was able to make changes to spreadsheets and save them without changing the name.

Opera not working.

I had to do a hard reset recently and intrying to restore it back to how I had it, I changed the Opera widjit so it opens a different home page. It now won't open anything, including the pre-installed favorites except for Youtube, which works fine. The GPRS conection works as I can use the Map Search tab to Google maps, which operates fine. Internet Explorer also works. I think its an Opera issue but that's about my limit!
Also, since I now have a nice clean contact list, was there ever a final resalt in getting Windows Live working without duplicating most of my contacts. I only want to be able to get Hotmail pushed through occasionally but without messing up my Contact list.
Any help much appriciated,
Woolly.
Check your registy.
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget
or
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\Customized
.
There is probably a a string value with a wrong "opera.exe" or empty string.
Remove that one (or rename it to be safe).
Thanks for the quick reply. I checked in the registry and in InternetWidget there's another Folder called Customized as well as two ab strings. One is (Default) (value not set) and the other is OperaEXEFile which had nothing in the string line. Is this where I should put opera.exe ?
Thanks again,
Woolly.
Try renaming "OperaEXEFile" to "BLABLAOperaEXEFile".
Maybe you need a soft reset afterwards.
It won't let me add BLABLA to the existing ab OperaEXEFile string. Should I deleat it and create a new one?
Thanks for your patience, Woolly.
Then delete the complete OperaEXEFile key.
Thanks! Deleting that file got it working properly. Won't begin to guess what caused it but glad its all ok.
Regards, Woolly.
I think it is caused by the Manilla 2D Customizer.
Dear,
Can you send the print screen of the registry of the Manilla 2D, customized folder and 0 folder inside it.........
I want to correct my opera as well but I fear I am short of some values........
Same prb with me..............
Internet Explorer is working fine but opera doesn't even tries to connect the GPRS.............
