Calendar gives no reminders on Jasjar - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hello,
I am new on Windows Mobile, coming from Nokia 9500, so I feel a little bit stupid, because maybe I did something wrong.
So when I set a reminder in the calendar I hear nothing any more, neither a notification... abslutely nothing.
The reminders on Outlook on the PC just work normally on the same appointments.
Settings:
[email protected]:
Events : on ---- Programs + Notifications : on
Screen taps and hardware buttons :| off
Tab notifications, Event: reminders: Plays sound : on Alarm1
Dislplay message on screen and flashlight both are on
I did a soft reset, and I played a little bit with different sounds when the problem seemed to have begun.
When the PC however does the alarm it nicely switches the alarm off in the Jasjar.
My phone is quite useless without a calendar warning.
Huib

My Jasjar becomes quite useless without an agenda that warns
Nobody has a clue?
I can set the agenda but nothing happens. The time just passes but no warnings whatsoever.

Oh hell, sounds like the alarm bug may be making an appearance on WM5...that would be DISASTEROUS.
Do this for us; download trial version of Pocket Mechanic (www.antontomov.com) and go to the notifications queue module. Click the button marked "Dup" or "duplicates" and tell us if it found any dups, and if so what they are (they will be tagged and yellow).
Just in case it's a stupidly simple thing, check the following;
- Can u play the alarm1.wav file from file explorer?
- Are you DEFINITELY setting a reminder for each agenda entry
- Is this reminder set to go 0 minutes before (ie don;t set a reminder for 5 mins time with an alarm for 30 mins before)
- settings>sounds&notifications>alarms>ticked
- Volume not 0: turn volume to 0 then back up again

I may do the antontomov later.
yes I can play alarm1.wav from file explorer.
OK: appointment duration from 16:00 till 16:05
alarm ( " reminder" it is called) 5 minutes before..
at the settings I ticked the Reminder event on play sound and repeat.
I do not see a volume option however.
I see options for flash light ( did never work) and vibration ( the same) I have the feeling it is not so much a sound problem as a problem that nothing is triggered when the moment is there.

Calendar Reminders confusing!!
I find this calendar thing pretty confusing too. I came to the conclusion that the reminder comes in the form of an on-screen notification and not an alarm, which seems pretty stupid, as you don't want to keep pulling your phone out to see if you have any appointments! :?
I hope I'm wrong, but could someone more knowledgeable in this area please clarify how to get an audible reminder in conjunction with an on-screen one please. And for the record, I know how to set a basic alarm, I just need to be reminded by sound or vibration of my appointments, else I can't get the true benefits of a personal digital assistant!

Wont modifying the "Reminders" settings in the notification tab of "Sounds and Notifications" do it for you???

I am sure it gave me an audible alarm before I ran into problems. Of course the agenda can warn you if working properly; also with a flash light even(!) or vibrato.

Well to be honest.... I have managed to get sound working on it before...I just can't remember what I did!
Please, if anyone has the time please explain how I get an alarm to ring in conjunction with the on-screen reminder. For example, when I go go into the calendar app and see the time slots for any given date, I assumed you could simply enter what you wanted reminding of, in that particular timeslot, and then choose to be reminded every 2 hours or something!!??!! I'm a bit perplexed by this. My SE700i worked in this fashion and I never got to grips with the PPC way of doing this. The bloody manual doesn't explain this either!

You're absolutely right about how to set the reminder, but the type of reminder (sound, message, vibrate) is set in Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications Tab > Change Event to "Reminders" and see what the settings are? Give it a go, I'm sure you must have "Display message on screen" ticked and "Play sound" unticked?

Thanks for thinking about my problem but I checked those settings out very prcisely.
I have ticked: play sound and repeat. I also have the display message ticked. I Use Alarm1 to keep it simple.
It is however possible that here is where the problem started.
Other problem, maybe related, is, that the phone ringtone sound can sometimes change in the last installed personal ringtone.
I changed it back of course.
I have a lot of people given a ringtone with their name in it, to take away the need of opening to see who is calling.
instead of a sound I record : this is John etc etc. But of course not new to your guys.
Works great, but sometimes my phone ring changes in e.g. " peter calling" as main ring tone.
But in the calendar case there is not even a reminder on the screen. The phone is just no triggering at all.

SOunds like hard-reset time dudes!
Just in case you think it's a missing feature that you have to live with, it's not: the calendar DOES alarm for every reminder, provided you set that. You get an on-screen notification and sound - depending on your settings. Further, this can be defaulted so that every new appointment does this without you having to think about it. Exactly the same as all previous PPC devices.

I had the same problem.
Hard reset is the only solution...
Be carefull what s/w you install on Jasjar!

This will be my first reset in Windows world ever.
Any tips and hints what to take care of before pushing the button?
I come from Nokia 9200 and up and there was a great backup facility before you hard reset.
As backup software is not available: Any tips and hints on what to write down before I do it?
I also saw that Windows may come with separate upgrade software.

Get rid of it and reset. Now try if it works.

I presume hard reset, because after several soft resets without ewallet I still have the problem.

See 'Help' application for Reminders in Calendar!!
Stupid me! There's an in depth guide on hoe to use the calendar with Reminders in the 'Help' application on the Jasjar. Too many options for my liking, just confusing matters. basically, alot of the options are for syncing purposes and if no else has access to your PC, it really won't matter wether you set-up categories or not, unless you need your contacts etc grouped.
Bottom line, buy an easier to use application.

Alarm bug? What's that?
Some time ago I installed and played a NES emulator on my xda for a few hours wearing the headset, and after that two things happened; Sound didn't work, it got permanently stuck on headset mode (I fixed that) and 2), the clock disappeared from the upper menu bar, never to return. Alarms didn't work (at all) from that point either. Prior to this it had worked 90% of the time, with some mysterious exceptions that I think maybe your "alarm bug" could explain.

SMS wakeup fixed on PPC2003PE

I made a small application (freeware in the first version) which allows you to fix the SMS feature of PPC2003PE.
You know: new SMS message arrived and only a short sound is played. The screen is black. (To be precise: your device was turn on to play the sound, but the screen was turn off - turn off the video buffer completely - to save battery. But I think in this way it is not working conveniently to read the message easy and useful.)
8)
Now your PPC PE device will wakup and display the SMS message popup bouble info. And you can read it right now!
You can free download:
http://geocities.com/myppcpe2003/PEFIX10FREE.zip
http://geocities.com/myppcpe2003/PEFIX10FREE.PPC2002.STRONGARM.cab
or from pocketgear.com (f.e. search for PPC2003PE)
This application displays a small icon on traybar, where you can access the options dialog or turn on/off the fix (SMS Wakeup). If you check the menu SMS Wakeup, your device will wakeup when the new SMS message arrived. Of course it will suspend again ion the time you set in general Settings/Power of your device. Then you can decide you can hide the icon and set it to auto-run after the soft-reset, so this application will work transparently.
On the home page, there is no descriptions or screens today. I will add it later when the shareware version will start (see the grayed options). Soon. I hope.
I'm awaiting any suggestions or comments: [email protected]
I 've tried it with 4.00.16 and it works fine. You rock! Thnx!
I like the fact that it keeps the screen off, but would love to fix another problem with message notification. Could you make it repeat the notification sound?
why?
why you want to repeat alert?
I tried PocketPlus which gives you repeatable sound alerts. But in the short time, I decided I did not wanted to use it in this way. Just because it disturbes me too much (for example when I'm on the meeting), or... if I use "infinitible" it can discharge battery.
Any way.
Simpliest solution, if you want bigger alert with more attentions, it is to use a longer and lounder sound file. You can set any sound file as your alert. Even with the play-time in minutes.
But.
Please check my program MY|PHONE|PROFILE.
It will give you more options to set alert files and action. You can use storage card to keep your sound files. You can change volume. And in the next version 5.0. it will give you the option to repeat alerts: 1, 3 or 5 times. I use: longer sound file in one Profile when I'm driving or shoping, and shorter sound file (just "gong once") when I'm on the meeting, and not sound at all but only vibrate when I'm on the cinema. To change the Profile - it is only the one touch of the screen.
Selly question will this work on PPC 3.17.03 PEFIX10FREE.PPC2002.STRONGARM.cab i notice it says PPC2002.
THX
thanks,
it is just my mistypped, but it works for PPC2003 only, of course
Just another question: I noticed that Phone Edition Fixes occurs in the list of actual apps. It is a bit inconvience, because if you select close all apps also the PEF will be closed. As look at Phonext which occurs in the taskbar, but doesnot occurs in the list of running apps.

In case I miss it. One of the things MS still hasn't fixed is that alerts don't play through the speaker if you have the headphones plugged in. Since it rings that way, obviously it is possible (any programmers want to take THAT on as a project?). So I miss things throughout the day since I leave the headphones plugged in while I do my business but don't always have them in my ears.
Does Pocket Plus repeat SMS alerts? I use SuperAlert, but it doesn't do those, just reminders.
Please check my program MY|PHONE|PROFILE.

For a work-related project we're working on, we are also very, very interested in making sounds come out of the speaker when the headphones are plugged in.

Alarm goes of twice at ones

Hello,
Just recenty, I started having this very odd issue with my tytn. When I set an alarm, it goes of at the specified time, but twice!
So the alarm sound is mixed with itself (second one has a slight delay), and the pop-up box displays "alarm 1/2". I also get the option to "dismiss this alarm" or to "dismiss all".
The phone is competely unmodded, no software has been added or removed prior to this problem surfacing. A soft reset didn't help...
Any suggestions?
(I'm fearing it will be a hard reset )

Get yourself one of the applications that clears duplicate notifications. SKtools is one but there are others.
Also have a look at this thread

I have alarms set for Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. It seems in only does the duplicate alarm on certain days (tuesdays so far) and not any of the others.
Thanks, I'll give it a go (but I did a hard reset yesterday...).

Because of these bugs and ugly interface I had to search available alarm software solutions. And I found! Novii (www.novii.tv) released WAWA alarm software that lets my handheld turn on my TV to wake me up! TV is not necessary - it can turn on my DVR or Music Center - anything with infrared. Moreover, WAWA has all the functions of an ordinary alarm clock. A low price was a surprise for me ($14.99) I coudn't resist and purchased this app. It's so nice and so useful!

Alarm Problem

I've got a problem with the alarm clock function. Everytime I set a timing for an alarm and disable/change the timing for the alarm, it still continue to ring the following day. For example if I set it at 7.00pm yesterday and change it to 8.00pm today. The alarm will ring both at 7.00pm and 8.00pm. Any idea anyway to solve this problem? It's a minor problem but it does get on my nerves (=
Cheers.
Uncheck the box, and untick each day before you change alarm. OK in upper right. Go back in, make changes, check & tick as usual. This minimizes the problem for me. If you want a freeware to remove duplicates search Scarybear Check Notification.
Universal same story
My Universal had exactly the same problem, with both WM5 and WM6. may be a Windows bug?
In the HTC Universal topic in this forum, there's a lot of info to be found on this issue.

Scarybear's app is not really safe to use on WM6! Beware...it hasn't been updated for years now...
Try using SKtools instead for fixing the duplicate notification-entries...
These are probably causing your problem Steve
I had some alarm issues as well, and running SKtools after a number of reboots has fixed it. WM6 is a lot cleaner already than WM5 and WM2003SE, but sometimes there are duplicate items being generated (seems quite random; have used Kaiser for 2 months without problem appearing)...

Klaxon confusion?? can u help

Hi all
I'm trying out Klaxon alarm clock.
Can anyone tell me the purpose / function of the "bell" button (bottom 2nd from right in attached image).
When I'm setting up an alarm, clicking on it just toggles making it lit up/not. If I press the play button it always plays an alarm tone (beep) whether the bell button is pressed or not. Very confusing and as usual with all these little apps there is no manuals or instructions anywhere.
Thanks for any help
Bell icon in klaxon
When bell icon is 'lit' it means the alarm is active. When bell icon is 'unlit' it means alarm is inactive.
Thanks for the reply qai5er
Stil confused. If I go in an edit /create a new alarm, why would I want to make th ealarm inactive???? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron ?
Also, when I click on the "play" button it plays an alarm beeping regardless of whether the alarm is active or inactive. Surely if I make the alarm inactive, then the play button should play nothing and perhaps tell me "nothing to play, alarm inactive"...??
also as well as the questions above, can anyone tell me what the items mean on the alarm config page . . .
Snooze (min) I assume this is the snooze time
Expire (Min) - what is this?
Delay (Sec) - what is this?
Many thanks to anyone who can help

No, it is'nt. This is an important feature to me at least. Just because I have set up the alarm does not mean that there is'nt situation when I do not need it. Let me give you an example. I may have an alarm to remind me to pick up my children after school. During school holidays, I would make it inactive, and I would reactivate it when the school starts. I could delete it during school holiday and recreate it I suppose but that's too troublesome.
You might find good use of this in the future.
Since Klaxon seems to work witout any problems on your devices I was wondering if you could tell me which settings you chose.
I have installed Klaxon and checked all boxes in the settings-menu, but the alarm won't work.
Instead of the Klaxon alarm the standard WM-alarm start at the specified time, but ends after a few seconds by itself (probably because Klaxon wants to start its alarm?).
Could you give me any advice?

None - it doesn't seem to work.
However, I've installed SSMapa (2 files copied into /windows and then when opening up settings I get 2 questions - accept these). Second - start SSMapa, do an init, find time / clock and set up program exactly as typed:
/Program/Klaxon/Klaxon.exe
Set directory:
/Program/Klaxon
Chose save. Then deploy. You get 2-3 worrysome questions about removing signed exe files - answer yes. Restart device for simplicity sake or wait a moment and you'll get 2-3 questions about MP???.exe answer yes. Now you have Klaxon integrated completely into your interface. Meaning that when alarm sounds, Klaxon pops up. When you click the time - Klaxon is opened. No more useless WM time settings.

Nevermind, got it working after LOTS of messing around
at least 2 people have now said that they managed to sort it out, but didn't explain how they did it.
to the people who are now able to use klaxon as a normal alarm, can you please share what settigns you had to change to get the alarm to play (say, a mp3), and then snooze for x minutes ?

I ended up uninstalling it as it was too unreliable. It was a bit slow to start up and also the alarm always went off late when integrated with TouchFlo (not sure if S2U2 was causing this). Back on the standard alarm now and it actually goes off at the right time now, which is a bonus.

I guess that the Expire is the how long the alarm wanto keep snoozing.
Let say yr snooze time is 5 mins. And yr expire time is 30 mins. Means it will only snooze for 6 times.. then it expired..

U can chooose the ringtone (MP3) from the 'sound logo' which is left to the 'Play' logo. From there u go search for yr MP3 file from yr folders. But remember to lit up the 'bell' logo or else it wont sound. Also pls close the light sensor which i found it is troublesome which yr alarm wont sound after 1st snooze.

[BUG] No notification for "all-day" events : help needed

Hi all,
I encounter a bug that is really annoying me : I don't receive any notification for an "all-day" appointment. No sound, no vibe. The phone is switching on at the remind time, but without any sound nor vibe.
I don't have this behaviour when the appointment is not an "all-day".
I verified my settings, I even hard-reset, and I always have the bug.
Do you experiment it ?
Do you know how to correct it ?
I'm on a french HTC Touch HD with the stock rom.
Thank you.
Update :
The bug is validated. I send a mail to HTC, but no answer for the moment.
We need help to try to find if there's a solution.
Update 2 :
The bug is present in others ROM than stocks : I tried Duttys v1.8 and even WM6.5 roms from PDAViet and Davideuck and the bug is present in these roms too.
Update 3 :
I added a poll concerning this problem. Please test this problem on your HD and answer the poll + post your HD setup (especially your ROM).
Thank you !
How to reproduce the bug :
- Go in Settings/Sounds/Notifications/Reminder and check that sound and vibration are checked
- Go in the calendar to "Tomorrow"
- Add an appointment
- In this new appointment, choose "All Day : Yes", "Reminder : Remind me", then when you want to be reminded (IE it's 10:30am, so if I want to be reminded at 11am, I choose "Reminder : Remind me, 13 hours")
- Wait for the reminder :
- if you have the sound + the vibration, you can check "No, it works like a charm" and please post your setup
- if you have sound but no vibration (or vibration but no sound), check "I have the same problem" and please describe your problem in a post
- if you have the exact same problem as me (no sound, no vibration), check "I have the same problem" and please post your setup
Thank you for your help !
nobody has this problem ?
please, can somebody tests on his HD to know if it has the problem too ?
someone please ?
Did you created this appointment yourself?
Did you try to open (edit) the appointment?
When you creat or edit an appointment you can select IF and WHEN you will be remembered.
But I didnt know if have the same problem...
- Yes
- Yes
- I select to be remembered, and I'm remembered, but only with a pop-up : no sound, no vibe.
I'm remembered correctly for the others appointments (pop-up + sound + vibe).
Can you test on your HD ?
No notification for an "all-day" appointment
Yes, I observe the same effect on my Touch HD from the first minute of usage. In SKTools I see under "Notification Queue" that these appointments are marked with the comment "Allday event does not exist". But I can confirm that the event DOES exist! I don't know why this occurs. On my old MDA Touch with WM6.0 the SAME appointments have been o.k.
Thank you very much for your test ! I feel less alone
Now, we have to find WHERE is the problem...
I checked in the registry comparing with a Diamond, and I didn't find anything...
Hope we'll find help.

Some HD have a specific NQ record for allday events. The new version of SKTools (4.4.6) properly handle such records.
I tried to clean the notification queue using some softs and tutorials (like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333521) and the bug is always there.
Somebody has an idea to resolve this annoying bug ?
I made many, many tests, hard-reset etc... and I just can't have the "all day" event reminder to work. Can you just tell me if you have this problem with your Touch HD with this phrase :
OK - Stock ROM - WWE
or
NOK - Stock ROM - FRE
Thank you very very much.
Install something like G-Alarm, reminders don't work as alarms
Go to Settings --> Sound --> Advanced --> select "Reminders" in the event drop down and confirm if you have the necessary options checked.
Also, in Windows "All Day" events start at 00:00:00 and end at 23:59:59. The default reminder is 18 or 12 hours (depending on your global e-mail settings), so you would get the reminder popup and sound at noon the previous day. Did the previous day also have an "All Day" event ? If so, then you may only get a vibrate if you have selected the "Automatic" option in Settings --> Sound.
These are just some of the things that came to mind, hope it helps !
Unfortunately, I really need the "all-day" event reminders to work, cause I use mainly the "all-day" events in my job
Do you experiment the same bug ?

Unfortunately, I already checked so many times the sound settings
I have many all-day events, and I never got any sound nor vibration.
To test, it added a "test" all day event for tomorrow, and set it to remind me at 22h20 (it's 22h25 here). I also added an appointment for tomorrow at 9h an set it to remind me at 22h22. So, the phone turned on, it showed the reminder pop-up for the all-day event, but didnt' rang nor vibrated. Two minutes later, the phone turned on again, the reminder pop-up for the "normal" appointment appeared, and I got the sound I set in the sounds settings AND the phone vibrated.
I just don't understand why it works for normal appointments and not for "all-day" events
This does not solve your problem, but just wanted to let you know - over the past few days, tested this issue many different ways and always had the same result - popup is the *ONLY* notification for all-day events. No reminder sound, no vibrate - nothing, nada, nyet.
I can understand your frustration lpaso
Could this be a WinMo issue ? I mentioned this issue to a colleague of mine and he remembered having similar problems with his old Moto Q (WinMo6.0). Unfortunately, he does not have that device anymore, so no way to test
i am not sure i fully understand your problem, but wouldn't a third party application like "notification repeat enable" help on this matter?
just a thought!
Thank you for your experiences
I can confirm that it's not a WinMo problem, cause I tested it with several others WinMo mobiles (Qtek 9100, HTC Touch, HTC Diamond, HTC TyTN II) and I worked great on all this devices.
Concerning a "notification repeat enable" software could do the trick, and I'd be happy to know what software you could advise me, but I'd rather have the normal function to work
the name of the software would be........."notification repeat enable"
i attached here the cab. since i have it on my pc for a very long time, i don't remember where i got it, but it's not made by me
basicly you will not find it on your ppc as an application, but would let you add some otions on notification settings menu
i hope it helps!
good luck!
thanks
But, if I understand, it adds on some notification settings the "repeat" option right ?
The problem we have, is that we do have a notification, but only with a pop-up ! We don't have sound, we don't have vibration. But we have the pop-up, and it is repeated if we check the "repeat" option in the settings.
