Installation of App's and Reg Editor - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi everybody, wonder if someone can help me.
I have both a K-Jam (just received and love it) and a JASJAR (love 3G and VGA Screen, hate it's slowness, big time, k-jam is by far faster and therefore usable).
I've installed the same app's on both machines. Doing this I've noticed that on the JASJAR it just installs them with no problems, on the K-Jam everytime I install an app, it first asks me if I really want to install it since it does not have a recognised certificate (or something like that). I always say yes and the app install (and work correctly... aside from one, see below).
However, amongst the app's installed is Resco Explorer, together with the Resco Registry Editor app. When I try and start up the Reg App, i get a message that says that "the file ':RRegistry' cannot be opened. Either it's not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall this file". Well, I did try reinstalling it and the same problem persist (BTW Resco Explorer and its other plug-ins work correctly). I therefore assume it's got because of this "certificate" problem I mentioned above.
Is anyone else getting this message on installations and is anyone else having problems with Resco Registry Editor? If yes, has anyone found a solution to fix this problem (i.e. being able to use the reg editor app)?? Please help me... i really want/need to be able to modify the registry on the K-Jam.... Thanks in advance

you you install the new version on the website the wm2005 version all work fine, i have the same problem with the 2003 version of it. but works fine now

i do get the message when i install programs,
i have installed & used both resco explorer & reg edit without any problems?
they both work fine for me (used reg edit for tomtom nav 5)

Resco Registry
I have the same problem. My version of Resco Explorer is v5.35, which is the latest.
It was working fine before I updated my Dopod 818 pro ROM.
Any insight?
Thanks.

Same problem here with my Universal... Any help ?

Problem installing Smart Dialing

Hi, i'm from Spain (I don't speak english very well) and i've got a problem with my Imate Jam. After a Hard Reset, Smart dialing and other aplications didnt install. Then i tried to install Smart Dialing with a .cab file but i get the following error: The file \windows\iacontacts.dll are used or in ROM.
I tried to install it at the begining, but i get the same error.
can anybody help me please?
Thank you
nobody? I need to do a hard reset?
thanks
Hi, the messega that "\windows\iacontacts.dll is in use" indicates that the program is already installed and running. If not you can try the following:
- download memmaid (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14279)
- install it, it offers control of autostart programs and services
- find and disable the entry that corresponds too iacontacts.dll
- soft reset and install
Or you can do (prolly easier):
- use a file manager to go into the windows dir and find that iacontacts.dll (prolly hidden so use something like Resco Explorer to see hidden files)
- you wont be able to delete it and you should not do it anyway
- but you can rename it to something like iacontactsold.dll
- softreset and install the cab file, it will not bother you now because the dll has not been loaded because it has not been found (you renamed it)
- you can then go into the win dir and should find your renamed dll as well as a new iacontacts.dll, delete your renamed one now
By the way: May I ask what Smart Dialling does anyway? I've not figured that out yet. Its installed on my S110 and I have options for that in the phone tool but no idea what it actually does or how it behaves when it is not installed.
Thank u very much! I followed the second way and i get it
With Smart Dialing for example: To call "Churri" (my girlfriend) you can write 248774 instead of 222-44-88-777-777-444. To find a number for example 99565856, you write 995 and Smart dialing find it automatically.
Thank you very much
Ah ok so you can use fragments of numbers until the right ones are picked out. Pretty neat. I'm happy it worked for you.

Pocket ZenPhone after ROM upgrade

Has anyone else found that PocketZenPhone doesn't work properly after upgrading their ROM (O2 Exec) ?
The profiles switch, but if I click on the settings icon it doesn't do anything so can't customise profiles
Have just downloaded latest version of PZP and makes no difference...
i too can't open the settings but no rom upgrade was done. zendrui is aware of it but we couldn't figure it out why. my other option is to hard reset but decided not to. let me know if you figure it out.
Works for me...
The only thing I've had difficulties with lately is that the .txt files appear to be out of step with what the programs expects to see, somehow.
Try reinstalling with the ones that come set up with the program, then recustomising those ones? That's what I did, and now it works fine (though this was BEFORE the upgrade).

Got it working now - hadn't installed the PZP tools CAB properly

Which app to edit registry?

Sorry for such a newbie question - but which app is everyone using to access the registry?
Many thanks
Chris
Total Commander http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm is freeware and works a treat.
Thanks!
Chris
p.s. is there an app which can be run from a pc to do this (i.e. over the usb connection to the wizard)?
Hmmm, i tried Total Commander on my new O2 Mini S (WM5, English IMate ROM) and couldn't get it to work. is anyone else having this problem? anyone know of another reg editor that works on my device?
Thanks.
lskb
I don't know of any software for editing the registry via USB connection, sorry.
wubaguba
Did you use the tcmdpocketarm download from http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm for install from the device?
HTH
wuba.. could you tell us exactly what part of it isn't working ?
I've got it installed - and it works fine.
If you want to edit the registry, go to the "\\" dir, then enter the registry.
I don't use it for editing the registry, though - it's not really well-suited for that. I do use it for *searching* the registry, however - as it's just VERY fast at that (it'll find all hits and display them in a list on the screen).
For the actual editing, I use PHM Regedit - it's free
http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
Try this one - it is based on the PC and works across the USB
Thanks, flashgordonv, I had found the Mobile Registry Editor site but the user comments seem to suggest that it doesn't support WM5. Have you used it on a WM5 device?
Chris
i use PHM registry editor, and am happy with that.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pocketpc/phmregistry.html
Sure....I could not go back up the directory structure when trying to locate a file. that was the main issue but there were other minor annoyances like not being able to see the bottom of the screen after my windows keyboard popped up. the version i tried was this one...
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.exe
Btw...i couldn't get to the PHM editor via the prior link but this one worked...
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
Sorry, can I ask the dumb question about which of the many cab files it produces I should copy onto my Qtek9100?
Just to confirm mobile registry editor works fine. I recreated my comms manager entry with it yesterday.
Joe
Most registry editors are compatible with WM5/ the Wizard. See http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/UltimateRoundupOfRegistryEditors.asp for more info.
What version of the wizard have you got mobile registry editor to work on?
I get access denied when trying to write to a HKLM value on a VARIO 1.6.2.4
Do we need to unlock RAPI?
If so how is this done?

Did you do it with the desktop-based MRE? It indeed won't work - HKLM is protected against outer access (see this article for more info on this new, WM5+ protection). Do it from a PPC-based registry editor - I've tested with Resco and it works flawlessly.
I use ROM version 1.5.X so that I can write to my Extended ROM. Hope this works with 1.6.x too. If not even Resco is able to modify anything under HKLM with ROM version 1.6.x, let me know.
Yes I can use local PPC based reg editors ok to edit the HKLM hive, but I wanted to get the PC based one working as it is more convenient to remote edit.
On the MRE web site it talks about blocked remote access and MS tools to reconfigure RAPI, was wondering if anyone had managed to find a configuration that worked.

It doesn't work with remote editors. Dunno whether this restriction can be circumvented. Use a PPC remote controller app (see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=514&more=1 ) for this to make your life easier.

HTC Home 2.0

Found Kaiser.HTC.Home.v2.0.814.722-schen.cab in the Hermes forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...hlight=Kaiser.HTC.Home.v2.0.814.722-schen.cab
Versin 2.0 allows you to add a diffrent number to favorite People (1.5 defaults to the mobile thus you need to create a new contact to use the Office number.).
Well that is the good news, the bad is that I cant get it to work on my BA
It installs well.
Under Start - Settings -Today - Items - It adds a HTC Home Tab.
The tick boxes work fine (fast as well JOKE).
And on the Today screen it adds Nothing.
I have done a old uninstall, new install, wait, softreset, wait.
This is a patched version based on the thread so may be the clean version would work.
So has anybody got Version 2.o to work on a BA ??
That's v 2.0.720719.
2.0.814.722 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327646

2.0.xxx.xxx work much better than v 1.5....thrust me.
Are you able to get v2.0.7xx.xxx to work?
You can see that v 2.0.8xx.xxx and v 2.0.7xx.xxx and v1.5.xxx.xxx all using DIFFERENT certificate to sign. That is my experimenting on the certificates thing. All work OK with my Hermes. Maybe it is certificate thing...maybe it is other matter that prevent the new version from working correctly for BA. But really I DONT see any reason other than certificate. You can try to sign the dll with other certificates to see if it work or not.
I only patch the dll to enable instalation outsite of windows directory and to fix the brightness shortcut. Other than that nothing. So, this should not be the issue
Congratulation guys WM6 finally arrived for BA and Hima user. I should have hold my thrustworthy Hima longer I dont have to upgrade, BUT Hermes ROCKS, no regret.
Thanks schen for your input, i have tryed al the 2.0.x versions with the same certificates (looked mainly into hermes forums) provided for hermes, but the home settings show in today options and the plugin just does not load. I agree that this is certificate error i will try to sign them with difrend certificates to see what will happen
regards xplode
Edit: I have tryed both 2.0 versions on clean hard resseted rom with both certificates installed and none ot them does not work for some reason, now i will try to sign the dll's with sdk certificate to see the results
Anyone have any luck with Home 2.0 on BA?
Same problem with HTC Plus.
I think the problem is certificate sign.
Just to let you know that this issues is just not with your devices, we are also seeing the same problems with the Apache running Helmi's port of WM6. It shows in settings, but nothing on Today screen. Have tried certs and signing as well.
However, both 2.x versions work fine with the Titan running WM6. My thought was that there were some remnants from the WM6 port that were still using WM5.
maybe you are right, because i signed all files with one certificate and then with another ans it is the same result
If you guys have install the sdkcerts.cab before installing home then I dont think it is certs problem...it is more like device specific security setting problem
Maybe you guys can take a look at the WM5 security...each of the ROM might have different default setting. Some device even dont allow security setting to be change.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/wmsecurity.asp
I will also try copying the SampleDevPrevCert.pfx to the device and click on it. It will add the root cert to the thrusted certificate store. It may work it may not but very simple and worth a try.
Bottom line, if you try the "No Security" setting which allow all signed or unsigned apps to pass and the HTC Home still not working then I dont have any idea anymore.
Please try....
Out of curiosity why v2 of HTC home working on certain device and rom and not working on others, I have resigned all the dll, exe, and mui files with my own certificate.
Installation note in the Readme file inside the zip.
I am looking for some people to try if the cab work. As soon as 2-3 report still not working I will delete the attachment.
Test it, i couldn't install at all; "installation of ... was unsuccessful"; thanks anyway Schen.
Now installing, will keep you posted in few minutes
the instalation of the cab is unsuccessful (the home cab)

I tried 3-4 times, but always installation of HTC Home cab was unsucessfull
Hi Schen,
Thanks for your help with this issue. I can confirm DANDANA's results on my Apache (Helmi's WM6 AKU .7) with no prior version of HTC Home installed. Your cert cab installs OK but the Kaiser.HTC.Home.v2.0.814.722.Resigned-schen.cab fails to install.
I believe this is due to the mui files (from my own experience in trying to unsign/resign them I think the certificate table gets corrupted somehow).
I sent you a PM earlier, but would it be possible to obtain a copy of all of the original HTC Home 2.0.814.722 PE files (prior to any hex editing & re-signing)? Helmi would like to take a look at it since it seems to be an issue with his WM6 ROMs (also affects his AKU .42 release for APAC).
Thanks again!
i have removed flags in cab for the self registering and shared for WmpPluginToday.dll and now it installs but it still does not work

Yes....I forgot to remove the self registering of the plugin, that is the cause of installation unsuccessfull....Earlier I tested this on my hermes manually coying the files and it work OK.
I have remove the cab. AT least I am convince by now it is not the certs thing.
Luv...got your PM...I will have to look for the original HTCHome.dll if I still have it. As I said before....the hack I did was just to change the default directory (\windows) to (\HTCHome) for the graphics AND change it to call HTCUti1.dll instead of HTCUtill.dll...They are unicode hex editing only. You could hex edit and change "\HTCHome" back to "\Windows" and "HTCUti1" back to "HTCUtill", resign it and everything is back to original. The mui files came unsign. I have to sign the mui files to get it to work for hermes.
In the mean time....the main difference between v 1.5 and v 2.0 is the "PROFILE" Tab...Try to install, disable the "Profile", reset if necessary to see if it work. The attached cab only enable the Home tab by default...if it work, you can enable all other tabs one by oneto see which tab is causing the problem.

Problem with wmwr_cprog

Hi,
After a hard-reset I found wmwr_cprog.exe on my internal storage under programmes. Since I did a hard reset and thus thought this program wouldnt be installed anymore, I deleted the file, not knowing what it was for.
Now everytime I want to start my phone I get the message "The file 'wmwr-cprog' can't be opened. It isn't signed with a trusted certificate or one of the components can't be found. You might need to reinstall it or repair it if this problem keeps returning' (free translation from a dutch ROM).
What can I do and how can I do it. A quick answer is much appreciated since I cant make nor receive phonecalls and I am at work :-(.
Thanks in advance!!!
Solved
Posting the solution if someone else has or will have this prob in the future:
KB0808022: "The file 'wmwr_cprog' cannot be opened" error message after uninstalling WMWifiRouter
wmwr_cprog is an executable used to allow WMWifiRouter to work on devices that do not have actual voice capabilities, like the EM-ONE. Sometimes this application is not removed from the registry correctly when uninstalling WMWifiRouter, which can cause your phone to give you error messages.
To fix the error, you will need a registry editor, like PHM RegEdit (to use on your device itself) or MobileRegistryEditor (MRE) (to use on your computer and edit the registry over an ActiveSync connection).
Once you have launched your registry editor of choice, change the:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCProg\1
entry from:
wmwr_cprog.exe
to:
cprog.exe
Close the registry editor, and wait two minutes - to make sure your device has saved the changes - and soft-reset your device. After the soft-reset, everything should be working as normal again.
