Sound muted - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

For some reason, the sound on my Magician has muted itself. Whenever I click the icon in the tray in Wisbar Advance, and set both sliders to max, as soon as I click off the volume controls, then click them again, the left slider goes back down to zero. Is there a mute control somewhere that I've accidentally checked?

Echilon,
It may be silly, but try going to your phone settings and see if you are in vibrate mode!

hi, I'm also having the same problem. Izzit the phone settings is the sound settings? I have been tried to solve but seems cannot. Pls give me some advice, thankssss

Ok guys, I had this problem a while ago
And I had to do a hardreset to get everything back on track
But it happen to me again, but NOW I foundout why
Have you guys DL the new BT stack? from what I see, you guys had the same problem as mine before. And its the new BT stack acting up
Goto the BT stack seting, look at the very end tabs, there will be an option to "mute" your phone, go there and uncheck it. And you will be as good as new.
Somehow, the new BT stack check that setion for you with no warning
So go try that, and let us know whatsup, if its not the BT stack, which it sound too alike from my last problem, where the bar will stuck at 0 even you change it. Than I guess you can disregard what I said here
let me know 8)

Sorry for my ignorance but how do I access the Bluetooth stack?
I just bought an i-Mate Jam and it seems to send and recieve calls but the ear speaker doesn't seem to work. On speakerphone it works but not off speakerphone.
Do I need some other type of software to access the Bluetooth stack?
Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.
Jeff

The problem is really the BTStack, I just tried to install it again, and yep my sound is gone.Nowhere can I find BT settings, tried the registry, no luck, BUT lucky for me I had made an export from my hole registry before. Set it back and sound is back.
Still I'd like to know more about this issue ;-)

thanks guys, that's really a new BT

Can anyone point the registry key which turns the sound back on again?
Coz Hardresetting = reinstalling

No BT mute setting
Hello Folks
Be a little more specific.
If I go into settings/bluetooth/ I have 3 tabs:
Mode-Device-COM ports
None of them have a 'mute' setting.
I searched the registry for mute...none.
I do have problem with my sound still.
I can phone, but beside that, there is no sound.

REAL SOLUTION
errh, sorry, this is the one:

Just thought I'd bump this thread to say I had exactly the same problem, and could only resolve it by restoring from my weekly auto backup.
I have the aforementioned bluetooth stack installed, but I've had it installed for ages now. Automute was not checked. Checking and unchecking automute did not fix the problem.
Originally, the sound volume slider was moveable, but it would always return to the lowest setting whenever I clicked out of the volume box. I used the Bluesoeil switcher to change to the Microsoft stack, but this didn't fix the issue. Neither did switching the stack back.
It did change the fact that I was able to move the volume slider and not have it return back to the lowest setting immediately after changing. Despite this, sound still did not play, except via bluetooth.
Backing up and hard resetting fixes the issue. Last weeks backup is fine.
I can honestly say I didn't change anything. I woke up this morning and it was like that. Sound was working fine the night before.

I think pocketplus was the cause for me.

Just like to post here again and say that five minutes after I posted this, sound stopped working again. This is after I restored last weeks backup.
After many hours of testing, I figured it had something to do with maybe the time (some program had been set to mute the device permanently on and after yesterdays date), activesync was broken and would (randomly) mute the device permanently when it did a sync, or that the USB ports on my machine were tripping some circut which cut off all sound. By all sound, I mean the phone component as well. I couldn't hear the person on the other end of the phone, and they couldn't hear me.
What made me think that it was the USB ports was that sometimes, hard resetting the device would not fix the problem. Several hard resets in a row would not cause the sound to return. I would have to leave the device for about five minutes, and then come back and hard reset it. Only then would I get sound back.
Problem is, last night at a party, I had to hard reset the device and restore last weeks backup (for the fiftyth time, yes I'm the life of the party lol), and I got home and didn't even plug the device in.
When I woke up this morning, the sound had gone again, without it even being plugged into my machine. I didn't even make a call or use my phone at all after I restored this backup.
I'm going insane. I hate problems without error messages, espically ones as ambiguous as this one.

Just did a hard reset, no restore, didn't change any of the settings, didn't even plug it into my desktop and within an hour, the sound had stopped working.
I'm starting to think my problem is a hardware issue.
Jeezuz Kerist. Why can't it just not work after a hard reset like a normal hardware problem? I lost my whole Saturday to this stupid thing. Die die die.

Hello all
i experienced this poblem (the Magician mute itself) a few days ago
it is really due to theme instalation which by defualt have a choice of turn on vibrate mode.
so i hope this will help solvong your problems
best regards

Problem Solved
Two days ago i got this "sound muted" problem. Tried everything, hard boot and reinstalation, and nothing helped...
The solution was to easy: picked up a paper clip and put into de 2.5'' earphone jack. Looks like it was locked, like the earplug was present! The paper clip unlocked and now i'm back to life again...

darned.... if I only found this post 3 hours ago... now I alread flashed it twice (O2 original, T-Mobile 1.13, extended rom)...
Ok so here's what I found out.
There seem to be to different kind of mute problems.
1. automute - this seems to be related to the bchs bluetooth drivers (BCHS_FOR_POCKET_PC_OZONE.ARMV4.CAB)
as I figure this problem can only occur when you have some audio device connected via bluetooth
2. so if the first isn't your problem - there's probably something wrong with your bluetooth installation.
I had this problem when fiddling around with
BCHS - BlueSoleil - Toshiba
bluetooth stacks.
Uninstalling all bluetooth stacks and reinstalling the BCHS+BlueSoleil solved it. (I think I tried all possible orders for doing so
Thread for BlueSoleil
Thread for BCHS
Toshiba bluetooth
So now that ActiveSync finally works - that's why I had all those problems in the first place... I have to get my BIGstorage on - !again! and... reinstall all apps that were in Storage... because they're not included in freakin' AS backup...

hard reset after removing battery

Hi Guys!
Whenever I remove the battery of my XDA2, it keeps on hard resetting the phone. No matter how quick I replace my battery.
Noticed this problem only a week back. When I noticed this 1st I did it 2nd time also and replaced battery in 3 seconds but samething happened. Lost all the data, starting from the scratch and installs OS.
Is this something serious or is there anything that I can do to solve this problem? Can anyone help?
As the memory is RAM I guess this is normal, you should back up yor device with ActiveSync before removing your battery.
I use Sprite Backup as it is quicker, and it stores all the data to your SD card so you don't need a PC to restore your device.
Hope this helps you.

Your advice about using Sprite Backup is goof, but IT IS NOT NORMAL for the XDA II to hard reset whenever the battery is changed. The XDA II contains a backup battery precisely to be able to maintain the data while the battery is changed.

Well, in my imate, some times I remove the battery to replace the SIM card, hard reset never happens! some times I keep the battery out for 15 minutes or 20 minutes, and still; the imate is normal and hard reset does not take place.
I'm not sure if your case is due to a software or a hardware problem. Does your back-up battery show "full" in the Power Setting?
Quoting the obvious.....!!!
You probbably have a problem with your Backup Battery..
I assume when you check "Start menu/settings/system/power"
that the backup battery shows fully charged........??
Otherwise if still under guarantee.... get it checked out... pronto...!!!
8)
My backup battery looks OK. At least it shows "battery power remaining 100%" which is ok I assume.
Removing battery even frequently didn't lose any of my data earlier.
Thanks guys!

mine hardresets as well !!!
ermm .. was this problem ever solved ???
cos mine seems to suffer from the same problem now.
Clicking the red switch at the batter should have switched the power to backup mode ... it seems to do that alright, but after switching the power back to battery, the memory is all gone.

I have the same problem. but I'd tried to open up my device and compare with others. and the problem is with the red switch button. It should be switching the button on the board so when U switch the red button down it suppose to switch the device from the main batt to backup batt. But mine doesn't. the red button kindda miss the board switch little bit to the left. so I use the soldiering iron to bent it little bit to the right. And the problem solved.
sorry about my english....
i've heard alot of people report this problem also when changing sim
some say that putting the phone in fligth mode helps
but unless you switch between sims or have more then 1 batt you never have to take it out so i've never had the issue
hmm ... will try flight mode .. but backup first ..
The soldering things is interesting. But opening up the unit voids the warranty which mine is still in.
mm .. a question I'd like to ask tho ... since mine was O2 originally and is now on a imate firmware, that immediately discards warranty does it ?
this problem has never been solved... best bet is to use Sprite Backup... i think this is about hardware problems in the XDA2 so... its either backup or send it back to the manufacturer..
I experienced this a-couple of times already. That’s why I avoid removing my unit's battery. I also got a backpack for more juice capacity. I hope this problem gets solved.
I use sprite backup as a quick way of reinstalling everything if ever the inevitable happens and then do a fresh install when I have time.
Poch
How to prevent hard resets when changing sims etc..
Ok guys...i had this experience every time i changed my sim. but i avoided it the last time i took the batt off. If youll notice, the battery cover is METAL, which is having a "contact " on the upper left terminal of the XDA which "drained " all power ( back-up batt as well ).
To prevent this  make sure your xda metal back cover doesnt physically contact with the said terminal when inserting it back.
cheers!
i restored to a backup a couple of weeks bk, but i donno why, after restoring, i wasnt able to receive sms. I mean ... u could c that an sms is received, the screen will light up but no sms icon will appear and nothing in the mail box either.
Anyway, i gave up and decided to jus do a hardreset and fresh install of everything.
The interesting thing is that straight after i hardresetted, i decided to take the batt out and c wot happens and to my suprise, it didnt hard reset. I repeated for a couple of times and made sure that i left the batt out for a couple of min and it never hardresetted again.
I jus came to a conclusion that i just havent taken the batt out and switching the backup battery switch for too long.

had the same problems about hard reset during the process of changing batteries....... i was told to turn on the flight mode first then do the batt change.... so far after tat, i dont face any more problems.
mm ... its been a while ago, but i dont remember ever placing the cover back while the battery is out.
I was changing the sim so i would've place the batt back straight after i changed the sim.
btw though, the back cover doesnt feel metallic. But more like plastic, jus coated with silver paint or something. I'll do a conductivity test on it tomoro ...
i personally dont agree that this is because of the back cover being metallic... coz u can always replace the sim or battery without putting back yet the back cover... as a matter of fact once you put the battery back the unit will automatically turn on right? and thats before you get to put the back cover back again.. so it doesnt really affect the connectors...

Problem with phone and soft reset

Hi all
I have problem (or two?).
1. My standard phone's program itself does not finish the work.
Its label remains in top tray all time.
In adjustments I have established a flag of end by pressing the button OK or X.
I almost have no additional programs.
2. WM5 often hangs if the device falls asleep with open processes.
Result: frequent soft reset.
I do not wish to finish the program of phone external utilities all time.
What can I make still?
Thank You.

I don't have this need to soft reset even if I leave five, six,or even more process alive while the unit goes to sleep. When I switch on the unit again, I simply continue using it without problem.
I'm using spb pocket plus to launch applications and magic button to switch and close them. I set the magic button up so that most applications including phone stay alive when close or x button is pressed. This is to allow me to go to all application by clicking on the icon on taskbar. Also on this way all by applications are immediately on within split second.
May me the cause of your problem lies some where else.
eaglesteve
I thank you
I have localized a problem. It because of phone.
All other programs can work and the computer does not fall.
I have adjusted that programs were closed by pressing the button X.
But phone itself cannot finish work and remains in memory after pressing X:

The problem has disappeared when I began to delete violently process of phone (SK tools).
But it abnormally and inconveniently. Magic Button is good program. But I think, that the problem of phone all the same needs to be solved.
I have found out one more trouble - phone often does not receive calls.
And not always phone works with a voice set. The voice set starts programs, but phone cannot often force to dial the number.
I dont think you CAN close the phone, it needs to be open to receive calls!
So, if your not getting calls, and your forcing closed the phone app...........
sorry, I'm sceptical of this. I believe you must leave the phone running at all times in order to be able to receive calls. It does not show up as a running program in setting>system>memory>running program list. If you use magic button, there is an option to 'don't show when inactive', but you can't try to kill the process by special procedure and then expect to still get calls coming through.
There has to be other reason for your problem, I think.
eaglesteve end Pyrofer.
Yes, it is possible you are right.
Really misses of calls have begun after I began to close phone.
I shall search for other reasons in adjustments of phone.
Thanks all.

You're right eaglesteve.
I use MagicButton without a problem. I have found some applications cause the Athena to hang but it's not the phone.
I am experiencing your second problem as well. If i leave the unit auto power off. I have no chance to power it up until reset from the back.
Currently i have to disable the auto off feature from the POWER menu.
any suggestion?
I solve it by following the instructions found in Google to avoid ActiveSync in WM5 connecting automaticaly.
So the problem looks like if you left ActiveSync running in the PDA and the PPC gos to sleep mode. Once I force the ActiveSync in PPC not to connect the problem never come back.
Now... the ActiveSync being activated by the PC still works... but once you finish and unplug the HTC from the PC yopu need to check if the AS is still running in the PDA and kill it.
u r great! Mahjong,
I just disable close the Activesyn on PPC. it doesn't die any more!
that means it just a matter of software/config. it should be gone with upgrading to WM6. lol
No problem. I'm glad to help.
I found out the AS thing just checking what programs remained open before getting the problem, and AS becames the suspect.
Best Regards,
mahjong

Just be careful, though - this will mean you can't use push email.
Also, if disabling AS cures the problem it suggests you have a conflict with other software - I have AS running constantly and have never had this problem.

Hi tcmg1666,
Mine was a gift from a close relative in Singapore. You could get it from Harvey Norman there for $1998, with bonus pack. Recently, they went for 17XX in a trade show, with bonus pack too. A guy sells it over ebay.com.sg for around 1800.
It will not be stocked in Australia. I contacted both Dopod and HTC. They do not intent to sell in Australia and New Zealand. Reason is that the Telcos here want to charge them an arm and a leg for "testing fee". I don't know what testing is needed as it works they moment you put in a phone card.
Hope this helps
Hi eaglesteve, thanks for your info. I'll try and get one of my relatives to get from Harvey Norman in S'Pore for me. Did you hav eany problems with using 3.5G and the other GSM bandwidths here in Australia? Did you get free upgrade to WM6?

Hi tcmg1666,
I tried Virgin Mobile (which is optus 2100 mhz), and Telstra's next G (850 mhz?). It works smoothly upon inserting the card (well, there will be some auto configuration etc), but I did not try 3 and the other network yet, but they should not be any different. Yes, it would work with normal GSM with no problem whatsoever. But, why use GSM when you could have 3.5G or 3G? Datapack in Austrlia is extremely expensive, if you compare it with that in Singapore. In Sinpapore, 10GB cost less than $40. In Australia, 1GB from Telstra cost more than $100. I think virgin mobile still has the best deal now, with $10 for 300MB (Mine was $10 for 1 GB). Mine is enough for me to surf internet almost 24/7 provided I don't start heavy download of music, video, and watch TV for too long. If I do that, I'd be stepping on the bobby trap and having to pay 1.5 cents per KB, which is extremely extremely expensive. (to display smh.com.au in desktop mode would cost you up to $7, thank you!).
WM6 upgrade will be available only in July. That means soon. I believe we will download from the DopodAsia website.
This is a fantastic device. You will never regret getting it.

no, I meant in the PDA. Push mail requires it and in any event I never need to close the process - it doesn`t cause me any issues.

Strange wake-up slowdown

Hi peeps !
I have the weirdest problem with my Athena, regardless of ROM versions (from official WM5 french version to my current Black Touch by PK 2 - awesome ROM, just installed it, gonna contribute and that's no bs).
When my Athena wakes up when I turn it on (or I'm called on the phone), even if I dont do anything, CPU load's about 80%. Needless to say, it is then extremely sluggish.
When I check what processes use CPU time using various task managers, it shows what it should, which is the idle process "using" (so to speak) almost all resources. Meaning that no other process shown by any task manager uses more than 2-3% at a time.
If I leave the Athena connected to a power supply, turned on, after a while, like 10 minutes or so, CPU load falls back to 5%, and my Athena then goes from turtle to rabbit.
What I tried already:
- hard reset and nothing installed: same behavior;
- disabling services: nothing changes;
- killing all "killable" processes: nothing changes;
- formated microdrive from Athena / "recovered microdrive" / formated microdrive from XP (FAT32) using WM5torage: nothing changes;
- searched and searched through the forum(s) and the internet for anything that remotely resembles my problem (hence the microdrive manipulations, for instance).
I'm therefore running out of ideas, and hopefully turning to the good people of the forum to see if they have any suggestion or idea as to what my problem is, and how to solve it.
Its especially frustrating to see my Athena "debilitated" to the point of being almost unusuable when I know how fast it can be... :-S
Thank you all for your help !
Another weird thing about my problem: I used Pocket Hack Master both to "see" CPU load real time, and to force various clocks to the CPU and see what happens.
And the strangest thing is that CPU usage remains "constant" at about 80%, from 200 MHz to 728 MHz !
Weird, huh ?
I'm at a loss... :-S :-(
hardware faults? Tried replacement?
Well, no, haven't replaced it. I was kindda hoping that someone would have an idea, because it doesn't "feel" as if it has a hardware problem: when after a while CPU drops back to normal, the Athena feels lightening fast again, and even when it is sluggish, it works, it's just... Extremely slow.
It "feels" as if something is being "checked" or I don't know what, by some processes I can't see in a task manager. Of course I may be wrong, and if nobody has any idea as to how to fix this , I guess I'll have it replaced.
Thank you for your interest in any case !
try dual 3.0 if i remember correctly btio was causing a steep wake up cpu load and it caused problems like u mentioned. thats why it aint in 3.0
Hi there, Pawel !
Well, I'd removed btio from my startup folder, because I'd experienced the huge battery drain issue.
But you know, I'm gonna try Dual PK 3.0 and see what happens... I'll let you guys know !
Thank you for your answers, guys, though !
In place of btio, you might want to try the latest wktask, which already has a battery metre.
Well well well, I installed Dual PK, but alas, thrice alas, same old same old problem. :-(
I was wondering: is there a way to disable embedded devices the way you'd do with a desktop Windows ? I tried from the registry but the HKLM\drivers and such keys, I didn't have the right to modify.
I have an idea that it may be my SD Card slot that causes the problem (I've always had minor troubles with it, such as having to take the card out and in again every once in a while, even tough I'd modified access times in the registry). I'd sure like to disable it to see. But I tried from a Taskmanager (to disable the device) and from the registry, even tried to delete the dlls, but couldn't (the modification was either refused or altogether ignored).
So, is there some kind of "failsafe mode" comparable to that of Windows 2000/XP/Vista ? Or an "admin" mode that lets me do what I want with my registry and DLLs ?
Thanks a bunch guys !
1. where do you install your [email protected]?
2. are you using miniSD or miniSDHC?
3. What exactly were your format parameters?
4. What benchmark do you manage to get using sktools for your storage card?
Ok:
1 - since i had some problems with my SD Card, I now install applications to the main memory (not microdrive, not SD);
2 - Both, actually, when I use SD Cards (which is only for transfer purposes, now). When I first experienced problems, I thought it was due to my 2GB Transcend 80x MiniSD, so I bought a 4 GB SDHC from PNY. But that didn't solve anything, alas. The SDHC worked, though, well, it worked just like the regular SD, which means with the same "disconnected-have-to-take-it-out-put-it-back" once in a while trouble;
3 - For my SD ? Although I don't have them with me right now, I belive it was FAT32;
4 - Haven't tried, actually. Will do so tonight !
Do you know if there's a way to disable embedded devices, aside from modifying my ROM's registry and hard-reseting ? Maybe logging in with a more critically privilieged user than guest ? If so, how do I do that (searched the forum, didn't find it) ?
I just installed MemMaid, to see if it tells me someting I don't already know... :-S
Thank you for your interest, man. This thing is driving me nearly insane... :-S

1 - since i had some problems with my SD Card, I now install applications to the main memory (not microdrive, not SD);
2 - Both, actually, when I use SD Cards (which is only for transfer purposes, now). When I first experienced problems, I thought it was due to my 2GB Transcend 80x MiniSD, so I bought a 4 GB SDHC from PNY. But that didn't solve anything, alas. The SDHC worked, though, well, it worked just like the regular SD, which means with the same "disconnected-have-to-take-it-out-put-it-back" once in a while trouble;
3 - For my SD ? Although I don't have them with me right now, I belive it was FAT32;

Installing everything on device memory could be the cause of the problem, if by doing so you become critically low in storage or program memory. I monitor this occasionally to ensure I have at least 40 mb of storage free.
You must format miniSD in FAT16 and miniSDHC in FAT 32.I've posted somewhere the effect of various parameter on read/write performance in another thread. I'll find that thread later and let you have the info.
Edit:
See post number 2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331502&highlight=format
As for embedded devices disabling, I have not found any need to do that.
Hi !
Ok, thanks for the info on FAT format for the cards, I'm pretty sure that's what I had, I'll recheck tonight. But for now, I'm SD-Card-less, so I should think it's not the immediate cause of the problem.
I never went below than 70 MB of free storage, so I guess that track's out the window too. :-S
Yeah, I know that I shouldn't try and disable any embedded device manually, but since my Athena's acting up and I *think* that one (or more, god forbid) devices may be the cause, I'd really like to try and disable them one at a time, until I find the culprit.
Do you know of a way to log on to WM6 with enough privileges so as to be able to rename / remove \windows\DDLs or delete HKLM\drivers\ registry keys ? I don't really care if I screw my Athena up with such manipulations, I not hard-reset shy anymore.
Thank you for your help, in any case !
As I have not felt the need to do that, I'm yet to find out how to do this myself. Perhaps someone like Powell or Olipro would have done it.
Thank you for your help, Steve.
Well, let's hope one of them cruises by, sees the light coming out of the thread and feels like sharing a bit of wisdom.
That'd be an even greater christmas gift than that...

Yes, I *am* a geek alright.
Well, unless one of the gurus out there provide me with the miracle solution to my problem, I guess I'll start the replacement procedure (which, being in France, is probably gonna drive me nuts).
Thanks eaglesteeve and Pawel (and others who might have thought about this strange problem of mine).

well did you try to test it in this way:
- flash a rom (stock rom or PK3.0)
- do not do anything at all, do not modify registry or anything
- remove SD card
- turn off all wireless and the phone too
and see if it is still sluggish, if so then it is some subtle HW problem on the motherboard or something, and i recommend having it replaced
Well I'll try that tonight, and post here my observations.
If it is still sluggish, well, we can proceed with what I suggested to pawel by PM, if you guys are interested.
Thanks for your help !

HI there cmonex !
Actually no, not yet, new year's eve kindda put the thing on hold. And I am still (lol can't help it) trying to find a way to locate and "destroy" the antagonistic Ghost inside my Athena.
Hence my other question about the power button, I thought I maybe had a lead there.
But I'll follow your suggestions very soon and let you guys know about it ASAP.

Stuck in Car Kit Mode

Anyone else ever come across this problem? I powered up my phone this morning to find it stuck in NaviPanel, disabling NaviPanel was easy but the phone is still in Car-Kit mode (all calls are stuck on loud speaker only and phone is in landscape mode)
Is there a way to disable car kit mode, perhaps in registry?
Please help
Hey guys
I have done the same problem with the ROM from Vodafone.
I made flash ROM from HTC official 1.48.479.1 and the problem remained.
Ask someone what to do
did u guys solve ur problems?
i had the same problem. my device is from germany.
so i did a hard reset by turning off the phone and then pressing and holding the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. You will then see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel. Then release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons and press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
so now its gone and i hope it doesnt come back cause it was really irritating but i have no clue why it happened in the first place.
any ideas guys?
I did HR many times and error is still recurring. I made a new Flash ROM and after installing all the programs after two days its returned.
Yesterday I made a flash ROM, I did not install anything and and wait if it will be OK.
If not going to complain to Vodafone.
Hi guys
The problem is with the connector, I found that it causes a disconnect in the "disk" mode from the USB cable.
When I moved up and down it stopped.
could u elaborate a bit. what connector are u talking about and what disk?
thanks
This is a micro USB connector on the bottom side.

"Disk" mode is the mode when connected to PC. You can choose ACTIVESYNC or DISK.
now i get it. my HD2 is in german so thats why i didnt get it the first time.
I have this problem too!
Hey guys,
I've just started experiencing this problem too... came out of the blue when I was using one of Miri's ROMs. I didn't even know it was the car kit mode that was causing the problem until I restored the default T-Mobile UK ROM.
I can't seem to get it out of this mode now... does this mean my HD2 now has a serious hardware fault, i.e. is the USB port loose? How did you get this fixed? Are you saying I need to go into 'disk' mode? When you say you moved up and down what do you mean? Did you wiggle the usb cable?
Please help... I really don't want to have to send my phone in for repair as I really need it for work...
Cheers guys,
Benjaml.
Stuck in car kit mode without car kit... faulty HD2?
Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me before I take my HD2 into T-Mobile UK for repair.
My phone seems to think the magnetic car kit is attached even though I don't own one! My phone defaults to landscape on the dialer, messaging and in Opera. When I receive or make a call the phone switches to speakphone automatically. The Navipanel appears.
The problem started at first when I was using one of Miri's ROMs, but now I've reverted to the standand HSPL and T-Mobile factory ROM and the problem still exists. T-mobile support fobbed me off by telling me to install HTC's latest ROM (even though the HTC site doesn't allow me to use my serial number!).
Is this a symptom of a faulty USB port? I've tried cleaning the contacts below the battery with alchohol but the problem still exists...
Running out of options and don't fancy a 2 week repair as I need to use the phone with business.
If any pro's have an idea please let me know. I love my HD2 and this is worrying me as it highlights to me a badly built phone... Yes the car kit is a great idea, but not if it buggers up the phone when you don't own it or it's not in use!!!
Thanks in advance,
Benjaml.
Hi Benjaml,
the first thing I did was banned autorun NAVIpanelu. Setting -) - others) Car Kit mode -) and then I disabled the automatic startup Navipanelu.
Phone is still in landscape mode all calls are stuck on loud speaker only
Connected microUSB connector with HD2 (other end is not connected anywhere) and I gently move it up and down, left and right until the display switched to portrait.
For me it worked.
I have the same problem, I do not want to claim HD2 and then wait a month or longer than it repaired . .
I have now got the same problem. I woke the phone up today to find navipanel on. The only way I could get out of it was to press the green call button (which left me with the phone locked in landscape mode with the loudspeaker turned on, or as has been suggested by plugging in the charger.
I did a HR and all seemed fine but then Navipanel reappeared.
Plugging the charger in sorts it but then at soon after it reverts to naviapanel.
My HD2 is now virtually unusable. I have called Virgin as I'm still within the 28 day returns period. The tech guy was sympathetic (but had not heard of the problem before) and offered me a replacement handset but couldn't 'restart' the 28 returns period which means if the problem reoccurs with the new handset I'll have to send it in for a repair that they've never heard of and therefore never done.
I can't affotrd to be without my phone for weeks whilst they investigate so therefore - reluctantly - I've asked for the paperwork to cancel my contract and return the handset
If anyone has a way to solve this please respond otherwise I'll probably be defecting to the dark (apple) side in the next week.
(Using stock 1.66, upgraded from stock 1.48 a week ago. Problem didn't occur with 1.48 but then again didn't appear with 1.66 until today either. No 'new' apps or tweaks done in the last few days)
I have the same problem. It started yesterday so I did a HR but it still happens (I'm using stock 1.66 to which I upgraded about a week ago).
I've installed SPB shell which at least allows the phone to function, but as with you, any incoming calls cause the phone to go straight to landscape with the loudspeaker on, and any typing also has to be done in landscape.
I spoke ot Virgin UK tech support but they hadn't heard of the problem so could only offer a replacement handset. I declined as I'm just within the 28 day cooling off period and if the problem reoccurs with the new handset I'll be stuck with Virgin and their limited alternative handset models.
So as things stand the HD2 is being returned to them in the next few days and the contract cancelled.
Before I chose the HD2 it was a toss up between it and an iPhone.
Initially I was delighted I'd gone with the HD2 but I can't afford to be without a handset for x number of weeks whilst they investigate and repair it.
So if anyone can solve this 'stuck in car kit/landscape' mode in the next few days I'll be delighted, but if not it's goodbye HTC and hello Apple.
Very disappointed as other than this problem I really like the phone
Reply from HTC
Just received this response from HTC. They seem to think it might be a driver conflict... !?! I've installed different ROMs so I don't think it's this issue...
Any one else with more knowledge of the phone have any ideas? It's not a result of using HSPL on the device is it? I've restored to stock ROM and still getting this issue. which seems to happen or restore to normal when I plug in my phone to charge using the MicroUSB cable and charger.
Regards,
Benjaml.

Dear valued HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
This could be a driver conflict and we recommend to try a hard reset on it make sure that you back up all your data before the reset. You can try as well to contact the network operater to find out if they already release the rom update to the HD2 because in HTC web site there is one but only for notbranded devices. If the problem still going on after this then contact us in this line +44 8458900079 and we will send your device to be repaired.
Best regards,

I did another HR yesterday (that was the 2nd one) and the problem hasn't reoccurred .... yet.
The phone's been stable since the HR and I've reinstalled all of the software and tweaks I had before.
My dilemma now is do I return the handset and cancel the contract whilst I'm still in the cooling off period or do I chance it and keep the handset and virgin contract and hope all is fine?
............. decisions decisions!
hey there,
i had the same prob but after a hard reset and shutting off navipanel it hasnt reoccured.
i would suggest u to cancel ur contract and send it back.
for the price ur paying and the phone with its reputation to live up to, its just not worth it.
send it back and make a new contract in a month or so if u can.
HD2 going back for repair.
I'm still seeing this problem, though it seems to be intermittent, and is more likely to occur once I charge my phone using the micro USB cable. Occasionally it will enter Car Kit mode completely randomly when I'm out and about and using my phone for business which makes this phone unusable. I'd just like to warn people who may be thinking of buying this phone. It's a great phone and I love it, but this is a big show stopper for me. Unfortunately I've had the phone for two months now and I won't be able to swap this for another, keep this in mind when you think everything is fine... it could happen to you too.
I'm not happy with HTC's almost canned response of send it in for repair. After a year if this is a serious hardware fault they won't touch it. I'm on an 18 month contract so this could be painful in the long run. Don't get me wrong, I love HTC and I've had their phones for years, going all the way back to the original touch. The more advanced the phone tho' the greater the potential for things to go wrong I guess.
Benjaml. <-- wandering to his local T-Mobile UK shop.
I just had the same problem. Went away as soon as I plugged it into the normal wall charger. I think it may have had something to do with new car charger I just used.

You are right. That makes the HD2 do these things.
How do I know? I ordered different 'USB mini to USB micro adapters'. (By means of an adapter I still could use my old 12V HD charger). Some models did not change the behavior of the HD2, other adapters showed the features described above. An example of the latter is the Motorola SKN6252.
So it'll have to do with the wiring inside the adapter/connection.
Regards
Thanks for this - not sure how I ended up in this situation too - I can't work out what i did...the phone was suddenly in Navi-panel mode.
got out of it by unticking the option "auto launch navipanel in car kit mode" and rebooting, but my phone is still in "car kit mode" so i have to disable the loudspeaker on each call!
I'll try the charger option!

S5 screen comes on when moved

OK, This is really irritating me. Let me start by saying that none of the special functions are enabled. Such as smart stay/motions and gestures/air view/dexteritity and interaction (ARE ALL OFF) I've restarted the phone. Cleared the cache by shutting off phone and holding power+volume up+home button. The phone is the verizon SM-G900V running version 5.0 The phone is NOT rooted. I don't have any third party applications that have them special features enabled. I'm at a loss of what is causing this. Any ideas? I'm trying to avoid a factory reset.
Factory reset?

Mature response...
You realise that's kinda your last option right? - Instead of posting childish pictures of star trek, why not stop and consider it for a moment, you seem to think you have tried everything else
But if you know better...
I think my response fits. I said in my original post trying to avoid factory reset. And then you come back with factory reset? As if I didn't just mention I know that's an option that I'm trying to avoid.. I didn't say I tried everything. I said I tried all I know. Doesn't mean someone on here might not have an idea that I don't know of. Way to make me out to be the bad guy for replying to your first sarcastic response though.
Your response fits on a forum for 5 year olds, not XDA
You have already stated you have disabled ALL gestures etc, and cleared caches, so the only thing left is a bug in the OS (or a rogue app, which no doubt you have checked...) - which a factory reset 'should' fix
and if it doesn't - you know it's a hardware fault
Suck it up, we have to reset our phones sometimes to fix bugs
You really don't hear yourself talking do you? I belong on a forum for 5 year olds? Yet you took the first stab. Logic. Oh well. No sign of intelligent life here. I'm out.
Umm.. I suggested a factory reset, you posted a childish image...
Who took the first stab?
Anyway, good idea, doesn't sound like you're ready for these forums if your 2nd post is a meme...

just try reset dude, just backup your data because that is your last option, well this is xda and not a forum for meme, please don't use that picture to respone...
Without being rooted you may find it difficult to sort this issue. Even rooted finding the cause could be problematic. I doubt anyone has spent the time and effort to fix such issues, when a factory reset is much easier, apart from setting up everything again.
Maybe try enabling and disabling all "extra" functions. If that doesn't work, try clearing the cache and dalvic after doing this. Else try flashing the same firmware you are using with no wipes, should keep all data intact. Maybe try a cache wipe when doing so.
Factory reset could be an option though, but it's understandable you don't want to go that route because without root backing up your data could be an issue. Best of luck.
Thanks for the real answer. I've never flashed without rooting in the process etc. I used Odin when I did it. Is it actually possible without root? I mean I'd love to have root on this. But it seems like the bootloader is still locked and I figure it will be for another couple of months until marshmallow rolls out. But yeah back to what you said. Not even sure where I'd get the firmware from for this exact s5 since a lot of versions exist from what I hear. But I'll turn on and off all the extra things then clear cache and dalvik. And then take battery out for a bit. Now that I read what you said again flash firmware without a wipe? I admit I didn't even know that was possible.
This happened to me and I managed to fix it very easily and believe it or not it also reduced battery use by almost 50%.
Below is a list of steps I took.
1. Take the battery out and after 10 secs put it back in with the phone off.
2. Put your phone back on and in safe mode.
3. In safe mode take out a cabbage from your fridge and put a leaf on the battery.
4. Now with the cabbage leaf on wrapped around the battery put it under your pillow when you sleep.
5. Repeat step 4 three more times every night.
6. After the third time the battery fairy will come and fix your phone with magic from the battery surprisingly
7. Boom your screen will no longer come on and a nice gift of saving 50% battery too.
Enjoy.

Google Search Samsung firmware this is where you'll find all the firmwares for the S5 . Downloads phone info from Play Store this will tell you what firmware you are currently running. I find you can flash with Odin and all your data is still there as long as you're using a matching firmware.
