does it have USB? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi folks:
One of the pictures posted in this forum shows what looks to be a USB port. Does this mean the Universal will be able to take in USB peripherals (such as a pocket hard drive)?
Thanks,
Fernando

I have try the unit in XX brand for serveral days. There is USB port. But I haven't try connecting with harddisk. Not sure if they're work.

Hello Julianfong,
Have you tried it with any USB device? How did you get your hands on it?
Thanks,
Fernando

Very interesting for transfering files from your digital camera. Then you could send them instantly by mail or whatever from your Universal!
Correct me if I'm wrong.

av-out on wm5 possible?

hello all,
Is it possible to have av-out on my wm5 device?
I have an mini usb with on the other end a red and a yellow plug.
i've already tried to connect but it just doesn't work.
is there any application i can use so i can connect to my tv via av???
My phone is a orange M600 aka prophet with latest dopod rom.
TIA
rebelish, that is just not going to work. I mean that is not a PC usb port. First its a mini-usb, second its not got all the WinXP functions which enable it to be so.
What might be a solution is to have a SD Socket AV-out (haven't seen any), or even try it through wifi... There is a program (forgot the name) which transfers the picture to the PC through wifi, but probably does not work for video.
Cheers.
A.) most PDA USB ports are slave, meaning normal addons will not work on them
B.) there are indeed SDIO cards that provide a VGA/AV output
The only pda I've seen with video out is the Dell x51v. I'm guessing it's a fair custom job, using more than just a mini-usb cable.
ok Thanks everybody for all the clear answers.
I do think it's a shame that we don't have that function already in our pocketpc's but than again we can't have it all.
I think i'am going for the bluetooth pal adaptor now because with that one can do the job wireless and i can show my 2Mega pixel pics on my tv screen.
everybody thanx again
cheers

Has anyone tried plugging in a USB HDD?

i was wondering, what if i got a USB harddrive, and plugged it into my hermes?
would WM6 even notice its there?
this is assuming i've got a externally powered HDD that uses the normal USBHOST.
i searched "usb harddrive" in the hermes forums and not many things turned up..
If you have one lying around, give it a go?!

that might be the clue to your answer..... the usb port in the phone lacks the capability to host an actual usb device, whether the external device is powered or not... But give it a go anyway... i cant think of any harm in trying... unless there is some kind of major power backflow, but that shouldnt happen unless your external device is faulty
the OS may support it, but hardware-wise - i dont think the Hermes supports USB hosting? or does it?
My brain says no...
But the hope in me says yes...
Wondered about this myself before.
Doesnt the HTC have the ability to act as an external UsB drive through the USB port when connected to a PC using the Advanced USB settings. Maybe its just a question of reversing the settings maybe with an added utility or something i have an external hard drive but not converter to convert the full usb to a mini usb

having the device mimmick and external drive and plugging in external storage through USB are 2 completly different things... and it all comes down to the USB host... when you plug your phone into your pc your computer then is able to act as a usb host, as it has the power and the drivers necessary for that... the phone itself lacks the abiltiy to be able to become a usb host...
but hey, at least your thinking
So it may be possible to access a USB HDD if we catered for it using a driver of some sort (written by us guys ofcourse). This may even show up in the file manager as something like /Hard_Drive.?
main procesor (and also OS itself) have support for USB host, but for some reason HTS decide to not enable this feature, it was asked many times, but solution doesnt exist yet... I used this functionallity on my old Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX n500 without necesity to install any drivers, or registry hack, after connection device had available after few second. It was WM5 device.
well think about this:
keep a laptop usb HDD in your car, 160GB of music at your command, with TCPMP who needs a ipod?
i've already modded my stock headset cable to have a 1/8" miniplug AND RCA's on it, so i'm set for the output, but my 4GB of microsd cards just don't cut it
so i'm working on tryin' to find a usb mini b male to usb b male cable right now, might just have to solder one up myself-- i'll post to see how it goes.
I think I've seen them for sale at Radioshack and Compusa - might try peaking in there though if you have a bunch of USB cables kicking around probably cheaper to solder
IF you look around on the net somewhere, someone successfully made a wifi hard drive, and i think it was fairly inexpensive... He loaded tons of mp3's and would access them from his phone via wifi.

Looks nice!
I just tried this. And nothing happens. Tried a usb memory key (low power), an external HDD (on its own power supply) and a card reader, none of them did anything.
thanks for the go.. after my weekend spent messing with *nix and tryin' to get into locked up wifi, i was spent.

USB connection issue

Hi everyone,
Since I'm new with this phone (just bought it few days ago) I really need your assistance.
My problem is probably with the usb drivers (Mass storage device). I'm running on Vista Ultimate SP2. When I connect the phone, and go to the notifications, there are two (as supposed to be). HTC Sync and the one with the USB connection. Well the one with the USB connection appears and disappears all the time.
As a result I can't sync since there is a problem with the USB driver. When I disable the Mass storage device (this is the one responsible for that), I can sync. The problem is I can't use my phone as a storage card in order to copy files. In advance I'm saying that I tried to mount the sd card...nothing.
I've tried the phone on other pcs, XP and vista... it workds everywhere fine. The notification with the USB connection is not disappearing.
Tried everything, rolling back the driver, updating etc. nothing!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!
Thanks in advance
Also remember than not all USB cables are the same.
I'm not using the original one as I lost it with the original box.
But while the Nokia DKE-2 works great for all functions, my camera and my USB HD mini-USB cable only support few features.
All of them can charge the Hero, though.
The one I'm using is the original one! Moreover, the phone connects properly with other pcs!

So the problem is Vista.
I personally used XP with only some minor problems due to the cable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557310
It should not be Vista... I've tried it on another pc with Vista.... no problem!!
Oops, ignore this.
Have you tried different USB port on the sick Vista PC?
Have you installed Andrid specific USB drivers? If so, uninstall and reinstall.
When you plug the cable do you get on the phone the notification for USB connection?
Adding a question to the topic:
I own a Galaxy right now and consider switching to the Hero, one thing that does not work with the Galaxy is the USB connection to my car for audio playback. The USB interface of my car can't handle multiple drives as offered by the Galaxy; e.g. with a HTC snap everything is fine.
So the question is: Does the Hero offer one drive only when connected in the USB mode?
Thanks for your help!

[Q] [SOLVED] HP HW6915 usb cable pinout

Hi to you all! Please provide me a schematic of this type of cable. I ordered one from a site and it won't work. I'd like to try to upgrade to WM6.1 and I don't have a working cable. Please give me at least a pinout for this PDA. The one that's on pinouts.ru - I don't think it's good for this model.
Thanks a lot!
No answer yet? I got another USB cable from provider, which is also not good, even though it has "usb detect" and USB data + and USB data - pins present.. It just says " unrecognized usb device" please! I want to upgrade to Windows mobile 6.1, that's all I wanna do. thanks a lot to anybody who will answer.
Why do you think that there is something wrong with the cable?
It's quite possible that connector on iPAQ is bad.

Hi!
It turned out I was doing something wrong. The phone needed to be in bootloader mode so that the drivers provided into this forum to work properly. Thus, I can confirm that the schematics for IPAQ from pinouts.ru works just fine at least for the USB connection part. As for drivers, they are posted here in this forum.
I also attached an image with the response of that cmd command.
Thanx to You all!
Keyboard
Hi again! Anybody has a fix for keyboard issue? Key problem like: Delete function instead Enter and such... Please help!
Thanx!

Did you install Windows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista or Windows 7)? Windows XP use Activesync.
You should install this before your phone can be recognized and synced to pc.

Am syncing via mini usb cable, and i have activesync already installed in my pc,jet cannot be dectected by pc.

It's possible the phone setting is configured to be recognized as flash drive, or for charging only. Some phones have this kind of capability. Try to look for the usb settings in your phone.

This is unusual. Looks like there could be a bug in your pc or your phone. There's also a possibility of defective cable, or usb port. Try first to use different cables, and plug to different usb port.

I've got synchronizing problems too.
I'm using Windows 7 Professional 32bit.
The Mobile Device Software recognizes my HD Mini, but synchronizing always fails. regardless what I'm trying to sync. contacts, calender, files,
any suggestions?
I see this happen sometimes. What i do is to manually click sync again on Windows Mobile Device Center, while the phone is still connected. If this doesn't work, bring up Activesync app on the phone. Then manually click sync on the phone.

have 2 units of this phone and i have already did hard reset on it,still the same thing.i have used 3 nokia 5130 mini usb cable in 3 defferent PCs still no success
pls still need your help
I would avoid Nokia cables and accessories. Nokia has a world of its own. Its devices and cables are not "universal". Try usb cable of another brand. Or just use nameless generic cables.
had that problem too but over a bluetooth, had to manualy run the active sync in mobile phone, also make sure u have a usb cable option checked in Active sync/mobile device center in PC and not only bluetooth. Oh forgot one important thing .. do not use usb hubs to connect your mini to PC, got 4 hubs on 2 different PCs neither one works.
