Aplication to patch any Magician ROM to bigStorage ones!! - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

If you want to patch any ROM like the one of Alex Anansky...
...download my aplicatión and do it now!!
It's so easy... read the instructions in the file "HowTo.txt".
Bye ;-)

Something tells me that something's fishy here.
Some guy from nowhere with only 4 posts comes up with a "breakthrough" utility and doesn't give any explanation but "download my aplicatión[sic]... Bye!"
The attachment's removed now (not by me).

OK... you lose it...
If somebody want's it... Follow this...
http://www.todophonedition.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=4808#4808
It's a spanish site about PhoneEdition PDA's... I moderate the programing forum.
Bye

MKS,
could you explain more on how it works!

I apologize if I sounded harsh, but this site has gone through a lot of problems from individuals repeatedly deleting things off the FTP, spamming or advertising for porn in the threads, and more.
This site needs to be moderated or protected a little better if it's going to thrive. It needs good people with good understanding, patience, and the willingness to share so we can get things that our manufacturers are not providing properly.
So, thank you for the attachment and link as I will test it out shortly.

Now come on, tell us something about you and how you did it. Or did you only find it yourself? If so: where?

So with this i can add and remove any Ext rom i want?
If that so, then its great!! now i can add IIWPO and Ext rom?
Can i?

the strange thing is if i rename any file to rom.nb1 and run the program, it will create a file with the size of 63MB rom file... is that normal MKS?

Just remember that the NB1 file will have to be 64MB since your Magician/JAM's ROM size is 64MB and it will SD-flash everything, from the CE portion to the Radio to the Extended ROM and Storage area.

Oh! it is necessary to obtain a Microsoft Certificate to upLoad some aplicatións here? :lol:
OK... I do not send many mensages in this forum... but I have been reading it for a long time... watch my date of registry. :wink:
Well, first... The size of the file is correct. Magician ROM does not occupy exactly 64Mb.
When you download the ROM to one 64Mb SD card, a few bytes at the end are single to fill the SD size. But these bytes are not necessary.
The ROM really finishes in the string "HTCE" before arriving at the 64 Mb.
I have trimmed the resulting file to do it easier to handle.
OK...This is everything at the moment. This weekend I have much work... In the next week I tell more to you.
It is possible that I even sends the source code to you too :wink:
Bye.

thanx alot for the HOWTO-method on "bigStorage" 8)

you have compared between original nb1 and the hacked one then you figured out the Anansky's code

Yes, something similar to that... But it's not so simple. I need some info from the xdaDevelopers WIKI's too. And a lot of tests over my Magician with diferent ROM versions & languages.
Probably in the next week I will upload the source code.
Bye :wink: .

Great job dude :wink:
I'm downloading the file now... and I can't wait to create my own BIG-Storage ROM
cheers

Hi MKS,
I tried yr program on my Imate w/ Traditional Chinese "Dopod818_1110_153_11100_Ship" Rom and it doesn't work.
Steps that I did
1. Back up the Dopod TC rom to my 256mb SD using romupdate.exe w/ d2s command
2. use ntrw to write the rom on my hd
3. using yr program to modify the rom
4. write the modified rom back to the SD
5. The Jam report Section = 1 error and doesn't start the flash
6. Therefore, I copy the first 416 byte from the original Dodpod TC to the modified rom
7. The Jam start flashing. But after it reach 100%, it report download error and checksum error.
Now, I need to roll back to my original rom.......
Rgds,
Jack

Has anyone successfully used this to make a bigstorage ROM?

im having trouble backing up my original rom. after the the check sum ok part i took the sd card out of the phone and into a card reader. i run the ntrw read backup.nb1 f: and it gave me an error. it says "cyclic redundancy check" i see that on drive see it has created a file called backup.nb1 but it is 0 bytes. does anyone know what im doing wrong?

incorrect filesize error from OSImage Tool on T-Mobile ROM

I need to restore my original T-Mobile ROM to send the hardware in for repair. I have tried ROMS supplied from 2 different sources to no avail. They are all exactly the same size... 33292288. Everytime I try to use the OSImage Tool to copy it to my 256MB SD card, I get this error immediately...
C:\....\tmo.nb1: incorrect filesize(33292288), file should be exactly 32243712 bytes error opening input file.
I am stumped. Anyone know how to get by this?
mmm, the top 1M of your nb1 does belong in the os image part of the rom,
it contains the save contacts etc.
you can either delete it yourself using a hexeditor or other binary file editor.
Your file has to end at offset 0x01ec0000
or wait until I make osimagetool less strict. ( which might not be soon )
Just for the hell of it I'd give XDArit and try, you never know
it might work!

Would you mind editing it for me if I sent the file to you? I could let you ftp the file and then replace it. I need to get this device in for repair because my contract is almost up... in less than a month. Thanks.
ok, better do some programming than fileeditting.
update is at http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/download/oit_105.zip
you have to start it with a commandline option '-f' to disable filesize checking.
Still no good. Now I get ... Error writing 00008000 bytes to 00b18400: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). I've tried two different T-Mobile images from two totally different people and the files are the same size, and they both get the exact same error. Any ideas?
when does this error occur? in osimagetool?
this would point to a faulty sd card I think.
It happens mid way through the load in OSImage Tool... loading to the SD Card. I've been using this card for a year... just about full of stuff... and never had a problem before. Even used XDArit to grab an image from my XDA, and to load the XDA Developers ROM onto it. I'll see if I can get another card. Thanks for trying help me figure this out. I may try the card in a store on a display unit and see if I can grab an image with the bootloader.
Hi folks
I have the same problem that Mike had - the one with the wrong filesize.
Unfortunately the posted link to the updated version of OSImagetool is down. Is there any chance someone could fix that?
Thank you very much in advance.

Vielen Dank / Thank you very much it worked just perfect.
By the way, this could also be interesting for you Stefan: the reason I was searching for the OSImage Tool was because of the german ROM 4.00.33 Mathias was so kind to share. It is the first german version I could get my hands on and i now have the good old qwertz-keyboard back.
Mabye Jeff or someone else could put it into the kitchen for all german/swiss/austrian XDA users ??? I would think a lot of people would appreciate this.

4.01.00 ups and downs or "it's out and free"

Ok people ...
since this one is spreading let's pull up a list of what you can or you cannot get with this one.
Version 4.20.0 (Build 13252)
RSU 6.24.01
The SIM software has a "Built Oct 14 2003" ...
AND YES !!! The Messenger is updated and it's working.
That's the first impresion.
So first step in the kitchen :
remember the params for the 4.00.21 ?
old stuff
wincever=4
start1=81740000
size1=00040000
start2=81c00000
size2=00300000
startbmp=81ec0000
startop=81c00000
that was over 3.4M of free space
NOW @ 4.01.00:
wincever=4
start1=81740000
size1=00040000
start2=81c00000
size2=00300000
startbmp=81ec0000
startop=81c00000
that is IDENTICAL
so ... again some space to fit our little "must have" apps.
Ya, but where do you get it
access info
thanks to ddevilx2 you can go to:
130.39.48.102 port 21
login tmobile password rom
Are there any kitchen's online where we can cook this up?
thanks in advance
obviously not "YET" ... since the only available is Yorch's ... and he's getting married ... you should probably start unsing your linux box or cygwin and set up your own.
it's fun :wink:
BALL & CHAIN :roll:
I've tried to set one up a couple of times to no avail. If someone wants to help me set one up I will host it at my expense. Let me know. I have all the 4.00.x ROMS and would like to make them all available.
BTW, I extracted the nk.nbf file from the exe so you don't have to change radio stacks.

I tried that ftp site and it likes tmobil okay but not the password rom....any suggestions?
Worked for me 20 min ago
it is exactly as the post says: tmobil/rom
as opposed to t-mobile or T-Mobil/ROM or some such?
got it...its Tmobile/rom for those of you who have yet to try.
UGH. I think I just blew up my T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone. I downloaded the 4.01.00 per this thread and tried installing. During the radio stack upgrade it said "upgrade failed". The windows app came up with a message that said that I could recover from it by removing the usb cable and resetting the device. The upgrade should then recover. It never recovers though - I get as far as "Welcome to T-Mobile Test Only Not For Sale", with the version information showing as:
G
R
4.00.21
Never makes it past that. I tried the hard reset button as well with no luck.
I realize that this is the risk I take, but can anybody help???
Thanks!
Not sure what you can do.
BE WARNED PEOPLE that an .exe install is the RISKIEST way to update your device. Do an SD card method instead.
Can anyone tell me if this ROM (4.01.00) is for 900/1800 MHZ or 900/1900 MHZ devices?
TIA,
Max
All I saw on the FTP server is the exe file, is there a nbf file?
Just open the .exe with winrar or winzip, then you just extract the .nb file or more if you wish. Anyone have a listing of the differences with this ROM?

OK, IVE BEEN HERE
RESET DEVICE, PUT ON CHARGER [NOT CONECTED TO PC, JUST CHARGING], AND JUST LEAVE IT THERE... DONT DO ANYTHING, IT WILL LOAD, AFTER LIKE 30 MINZ OR SO :mrgreen:
WHEN OS LOADS, DELETE THE 4 RS UPGRADE FILES FROM WINDOWS DIR.
THEN IF U WANNA GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY, DECOMPRESS THE 4 FILES FROM THE *.EXE FILE AND MANUALLY PLACE EM BACK TO WINDOWS DIR. ... AND IF NO LUCK, GO WITH ATT STACK, LOW FAILURE RATE (as i am told) 8)
Ok I feel stupid, man that was easy.

and what if someone (me) can not afford to break anything?

Instaead of Hi I say you are great people
So the case is... I just need to have working Qtek 1010 with SOME additional soft on it inside a ROM...
I've read many pages in this forum and I'm able to find too many ways to change my ROM. I'm totaly confused.
I work for extremaly big worldwide company and they gave me q Qtek, told me to use it, gave me one simple application and web link... so I do.
But the Qtek is much powerfull than that so I need to flash my ROM.
Now comes a question: where can I find one document how to prepare for it, what tools do I need, how to do it... I know after some tries I will be confident enough to do such stuff easlily, my problem is I have only one try, they will make me w trouble if I screw my company recource.
I understand you had milion similar questions like that. Basicly I need help how to flash so I can be sure 100% not less that I can recover in case of trouble. I hope you understand I'm afraid to do it because lack of experience and you are able to tell me if I should try to flash...
or maybe it's better for me to ask my boss to by me a 512 MB SD and install all additional soft on it and stop worring about memory?
I'd appreciate any opinion... you are the best and I'm just new to this bussines...
Get an sd card, backup existing rom to sd card, very easy to do by bootloader method. Enter bootloader by holding down power while inserting stylus in the reset hole on the bottom left of pda then press top right function key, then choose ce to sd. Once you have done this you can check if it has in fact backed up your rom by putting sd card in the pda, enter bootloader, it will then give the option to program the rom, just remove the card and push the reset with stylus again, the other method to check a working backup is to put the sd card in the pda, the pda will ask to format it, say no and remove it. Once you have a backup you can either use xdatools to copy it to your pc or keep it in a safe place, no more files must be written to this card otherwise it will be rendered useless, if you wish to reuse the card sometime it will need formatting. Once you have your backup, go to www.yorch.net, cook yourself a rom and download it in the exe format, this will do a normal install from your pc while connected to pda via activesync, if it messes up you always have your backup. Once you become more proficient at using xdatools you might wish to try out lots of different roms until you are happy with the result, you can go on to sd card flashing which is a much better way of programming rom and much less prone to error because it doesnt rely on a pc connection. I would advise you to leave the radio stack alone, if you can make and receive call ok leave it alone. Have a thorough look around the forum before proceeding. Its good fun to program your pda and you can make it a much better tool, but make sure you always have a way out if things go wrong.
www.yorch.net not working... is there a place like that?
Hi!
I read the above post, one of the clearest here, and I almost got the confidence to finally do this ROM update...
But:
1) Can't find the www.yorch.net website where I could "cook myself a rom and dowload it in a .exe format"
2)It's still not very clear to me what exactly cooking a ROM means: it concerns the OS (the version 1.53, 1.72 type of stuff), the extended ROM (the default programs u get starting after and hard reset like the SW for the camera etc) or both?
Thanks!!!
Chris

1) Is there a place like that for XDA II Kitchen? Is my undestanding of what a kitchen is correct?
2) The process for ROM backup outlined above, is still correct for XDA II?
Thanks!
Chris
I'm in the same boat as you CChris. I've been diligently a daily searching through the numerous topics on this site looking for similar information. I haven't found it yet - or at least nothing not-to-super-technical. I do know that you get to the bootloader by pressing the power button, reset button, and down on the toggle at the same time rather than the Wallaby way of the power and reset buttons only. It also seems that there are issues regarding 'country' and that it requires software to get around this. I haven't found the software yet - the links that I've seen all point to "itsme's" website which is currently down.
You can read the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9053&highlight=
Hopefully, someone with a lot more knowledge than me can go over updating the XDA II as clearly as cruisin-thru did for the XDA I.
The instructions on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaRomFlashing are correct.
Unfortunately, there was an issue where the wiki removed the ~ from itsme's website's address. It's been replaced with %7e and now the link works.
If you download a ROM from the same vendor as your device (e.g. Qtek ROM on Qtek device, iMate ROM on iMate device, etc.) you don't need to use these instructions, you can just install the ROM upgrade from your vendor.
If you want to use the latest ROM (from iMate) and your device isn't an iMate, you need to decrypt, change the "country" code, encrypt, and then run the upgrade.
You can also edit the extended ROM when flashing, but it's easier to use itsme's extRom Tools. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8422
You do NOT need to flash the ROM if you are not experiencing problems, or if you are experiencing problems which the new ROM also has (for example ugly cleartype fonts, which may be fixed without flashing). Flashing the ROM may void your warrantee. You will lose all your data when you upgrade, and you should not restore a backup, only your my documents folder.
If you are a newbie, it may be best not to flash your ROM. If you typed in itsme in google, you would have found his xs4all address as the third link, and would have quickly found out his site wasn't down at all, but the link was just wrong.
Just a warning: the things that could go wrong when flashing are potentially much worse than a wrong URL, and the answer to those problems won't be the third link in google.

Roms on the FTP

Hi all,
I uploaded all roms + extended roms I have for our beloved HTC Wizard.
You can find them here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/HTC_Wizard/
Maybe a (FTP) administrator can move them to the main FTP index so we have a folder like all other HTC phones.
Any new roms can ofcourse be uploaded to the same folder.
Have fun!
Hey
why you don't have an german rom ?
regards, Peter
Because I dont have any German roms myself.
I uploaded all roms I found myself...
If you can provide me any links than I can download it and upload to the XDA FTP.
Has anyone managed to make a ROM dump of the UK T-Mobile ROM?
I would be interested in an o2 UK rom also.
Would be nice.
Yeah, would be good to get an archive of all the roms, good work on getting this started.
If i wasn't in such a hurry to flash my Rom i would have waited until i got a Mini SD card and backed my UK T-Mobile ROM up first, im just too impatient! :lol: Wish i had waited now, as now i am after it again!!

How i can do this? Is there any proggy which backup the rom?
To backup your rom you need to do the folowing...
First:
Your phone needs to have the bootloaded unlocked ,so use the following unlock tool lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2a created by machinagod which can be found here, and when you run the PC app choose 'C' for SuperCID (this will unlock the bootloader) Version 0.2a is the latest and it worked great on my phone, instructins are on the page - Thank you machinagod for all your work here, its a great tool!
Second:
To backup the ROM, download the two files attached to This Post written by arnoldl - Thanks for this info arnoldl, very helpful. Follow the instructions in the post.
Third:
Which ROM is it by the way? T-Mobile? O2? is it a UK ROM?
When you have it saved can you upload it to The FTP area and post here to tell us what it's called and where it is so it can be catalogued with others to help build a good archive of them.
Cheers and Hope this info helps

Cheers greddy - i was just about to post that!!
Can the image on the SD card be coppied to a Zip or Rar file directly and NOT using NTRW? Maybe this can be tried and extracted back onto a mini SD card by someone else, im very willing to try it, then we will all know if this works.
So for now bill_viper - Backup your ROM to MiniSD card but do not use NTRW!! Just keep that Mini SD card safe and do not delete it until a safe way of backing up the image to a distributable file or archive has been found.
I've just done a bit more reading and it looks like you can use NTRW to create a backup file of the ROM from the SD card image.
The problem experienced is with loading ANY rom onto the device using the 1.06 bootloader (the one with the K-JAM rom) so in order to put a Rom onto a device with the 1.06 K-Jam rom - the 1.06 bootloader) you first have to put the prodigy rom on or something like this using the *.exe file as it has a different bootloader (1.01)
So bill_viper please do use NTRW to backup the ROM image on your MiniSD card, and please post it on the FTP for archiving.
Cheers
First of all i would like thanq mattstroud for your time.

Hi greddy,
did you not have a damaged image file wasn't that the reason for your problems?
----------EDIT----------
Seeing sun75's post proves that the problem does lie with the 1.06 Bootloader and not the NTRW image, so greddy i think your image file was damaged which caused problems regardless of which bootloader was being used.
Cheers for this info sun75, good to get some definite proof after all.

Ok, i didn't know this. Looking at sun75's post it worked fine for him when he loaded a rom with the 1.03 bootloader. Maybe this problem is specific to your device? :?

Any one able to add a T-Mobile UK ROM?

In need o a little assistence.

Hello,
It's already a long time ago since i needed a Dutch ROM for the HP 6xx series, i can't ind this anywhere but now i finally have a Dutch device.
so now i heard something about ROM Dumping, i also understood that this has something to do with pdocread.
but as the rookie ( maybe even ''noob'' ) that i am, i want to ask the following question, how do i dump my dutch rom, what programs do i have to use or that, and is installing a Dutch rom the same thing as flashing it to your device? or do i have to convert files to .dio format?
all help is welcome!
post scriptum,
i got the 614 in every language available right now, so if you do me the favour for guiding me through this dumping, ill upload all the ROMS of any language you want, i got almost every language.
sincerley, alex
ok, i used DUMP TOOLS now and in the ''manual''of dump tools
it says i have to copy dump_gene_os_extrom.exe
to my device, i did this.
it also said that i needed a minimum of 70MB.
after like 5 minutes the device copied data to the storage card
im using a 1 gb micro SD of kingston.
now, it already copied 716mb on the SD card and growing.
i cant imagine a rom any bigger then like 120MB.
i tried alot of things so could someone please help me?
im willing to donate if anybody wants money for their time, no problem.
you are not using the correct dump tool, there is specific dump tool for 61x here. You need to connect to computer with activesync to use it

- diskimage_Ver.nb0
- part2.nb0.payload
- part2.nb0.payload.part1
- part02.raw
the files standing above, are the files that where retreived from my Dutch hp 614, now i want this rom, on my other 614 that ain't Dutch.
i already tried to rename the diskimage_Ver.nb0 to > flash.dio, then flashed that file into my 614, after that whas done it got stuck at the startup screen.
so is anybody prepared to help me out and tell me how i can get it to work.
P.S. for the ones that are going to link me to the thread where someone links to a Dutch ROM, that one doesnt work, it doesnt go any further then the start up screen.
if there's people that want money for their help thats absolutely no problem.
i just want my pda restored and dutch.
thank you in advance.
that is weird...it should work
anyway can you flash custom rom like my 6.5 or sergiorus 6.1 without problem?
also post your result from executing this command when your device is running a working rom:
pdocread -l
and
pdocread -t
