TOMTOM 5 compatible?? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

considering getting tomtom5 for my mda compact.
anyone know whether its compatible, has anyone got it?

Should be. TomTom 3 and 4 worked fine.
By the way, Bakonl's release of TomTom 5 was just posted on alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc.gps, along with a few maps.

Benelux map only.. :x

TT5 does work
and not only benlux maps are posted. italy, france, germany, spain, uk are posted as well. rest will be posted as well i guess.
anyway, waiting for my legal TT5 to arrive (with the bt gps), woei =)

I can't get it working... I tried installing in the program files and in the storage card directories but it crashes at the end of the tutorial, just after that the "Welcome to TomTom Navigator" message appears in the map screen.
I can't see the map nor the GPS is able to connect (TomTom "3" Navigator Wireless).
I can't find any registry entry, I modified the currentmap.dat in order to point to /storage card/italia-map.
Anyone was able to reproduce my problem and to solve it?

Yeah, I noticed there are a few maps out. I'd like Scandinavia tho Seems like a buggy version too.. Crashes often.

Yeah... reeeeally buggy, I tried to check the post in the alt.warez.pocketpc.gps newsgroup for infos about bugs/problems etc. but I can't find it in my nssp server and using the web I'm not able to see the post (I can just see the header) so... I still can't use it  ; maybe it could be a bad installer, I noticed that sometimes it won't install some cabs from the cd, or maybe it's just the italian map which is corrupt... who knows? 8)

I guess the release on alt.binaries is a preview or beta version.
The official release of Tomtom 5 will be end of June.
Im still waiting for Destinator PN on emule...

Where can i find the TomTom 5?

I have installed TomTom 5 to see if it works, I'm unable to connect my BlueTooth GPS (Holux GPSlim 236). The port does not show up on the device list under Buzz WM2005.
Does anybody know how to change this?
Ikkuh

I have installed TomTom 5 , I'm able to connect my BlueTooth GPS (Holux GPSlim 236) on port 4
work OK for me !!!

I had the same problem.... go to the bluetooth com ports, change the GSM to use COM8.
Then start -> settings -> gps, on the first tab set com4 and on the second tab tom com8. The thrid tab should have the checkbox set.
Now reset your device.
Start tomtom, goto your GSM setup, choose Other bluetooth, select COM4.
Now exit tomtom and reset your device.
Start tomtom and wait a while (can take a few minutes for it to find the GPS).
This worked for me (you need the resets in order to detect the com ports!!)
Ikkuh

@Ikkuh,
How can I change the Com port settings on my MDA Compact? I can't seem to understand you're solution. I need Com 8 and TT5 only has 2,4,5 and 9.
Thanks in advance!

There is a serial port multiplexer build in just for the GPS. It is under settings -> GPS, if you use this, you can create a virtual serial port, and attach it to the hardware GPS. If you do this and reset the device, the virtual GPS will show up in TomTom (in my case it did ;-) )
Ikkuh

I must admit dickr43 has got a point. Even though you are trying to be helpful, Ikkuh, it's a bit hard to understand.

There IS no GSM setup in TT. Most likely you mean GPS?

Doesn't exist either. Must be some third party app you have installed...
dickr43,
Try removing your GPS pairing from the Magician. Go select the 'Bluetooth Setting' icon under Settings/System and make sure both the serial ports are activated. Note which COM port is 'Outbound', then re-pair with your GPS device. Start TT and in the GPS settings panel, you should get things running by selecting the COM port that was marked for Outbound.
Unless you are running some third party software with virtual BT COM ports, that should get you up and running. If you are, try each COM port one by one. Don't hurry through the ports, but give it time to connect. 5-10 seconds at least. Also make absolutely sure your GPS is within range and has a satellite fix, or you are wasting your time.

I cant use tomtom 5 as a route map
I just want to use it sometimes without the gps module is it possible. Because with the older version it was possible to select a GPS simulator.
THX

The "unofficial" versions of TomTom5 doing the rounds seem to have been taken from beta builds. I installed without any problems, but noticed a number of bugs (not recognising GPS, the program freezing, picking up wild GPS info, settings not sticking)... sometimes you'd think it was working, and you'd think you'd got it stable, but then they'd fall down.
I've tried 3 different versions doing the rounds right now and none of them are stable. I'll wait a month or so for a more finished release is available.

i got my hands on TT5 aswell, the program looks realy nice and lot improvement to TT3, but as mentioned above, it's not very stable, spontain exiting of TT5 is not cool when youre in the middle of no where.
my gps was recognized directley,
i just went to BT settings and checked Com5 and a messege apeared that i must bond with a compatible device, so i bonded with my GPS reciever and in the TT wizard i could chose Com5 and it connected right away, much easyer than TT3
regards.

Hi,
I am considering getting TOMTOM5 for my T-Mobile MDA Compact and would like to use this in my car. Does anyone know or can provide screen shots of what the display looks like? Is it easily readable while driving?
Thanks

Bluetooth Holux GR230/Tomtom 3

Why is it that the Holux driver does not appear in the Tomtom list of available drivers. Can't seem to install anything from the CD driver supplied with the GPS receiver. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
I got this from the tomtom website and posted it here a few weeks ago.
If you are thinking of buying TOMTOM 3 please read this from the TOMTOM website.
Compatibility
- Not compatible with Holux GPS Receiver
- Not compatible with Integral Compact Flash Cards
- Not compatible with CF Type II cards (Microdrives)
- Not compatible with TomTom II Maps
I got mine working with tomtom 2 by downloading bluetooth tools patch but havent tried it with tomtom 3.
I decided to give it a try. if you have the gps already bonded make sure you delete the bonding first. Download and install the latest bluetooth tools from here
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
Set bluetooth to discoverable mode, choose "new", it will find the gps, enter code, mine is 6268, when you ok it, bluetooth tools should pop up, I chose serial/com4. Once complete, make sure bluetooth mode is "on".
Go to tomtom, choose "gps", go to the lower box where you should now see your holux gps listed, choose this then tick the large box on the left. You should now have a working tomtom3 system despite what it says on the tomtom website about it not working.

ive got myself a holux gr230 which of course isnt listed as a supported device, but once bonded its visible in the lower box, but it wont connect. what should i select in the upper box?
im also having probs with tomtom activation. it says its activated, but when i try to go into uk maps it just says that "this activation code is not valid for Great_Britain" but the majour roads of europe version seems to work fine. ne ideas?
Cheers.

I am using the DCONNEX DC-230 BT GPS, which is in fact a rebadged Holux GR-230.
Flawlessly.
I use Rom 1,72 with native BT stack.
Just bond the GPS, say YES to questions on assigning a COM port
In TomTom select NMEA Bluetooth and COM5
Only issue is that TomTom alsmost hangs the MDAII when it cant find the GPS (ie. GPS off, BT off, GPS out of reach).
Still looking for a solution for that . . .
I have the same problem that TOMTOM hangs. This is very annonying as sometimes I would like to check the Map in TomTOm without having my Holux Mouse with me. I then have to use TomTom Wizard to uncheck the little box in gps setting and then change to simulator :?
Before I was using BluetoothTools and TomTOm worked also fine without a GPS Mouse for a Map, but Bluetooth Tools introduced a considerable lag (looking for bluetooth headset) of the XDA when taking a call, this was also very annoying as I use the XDA2 primarily as a phone, and the phone has to work perfect ....

WELL I'M USING 1.60 ROM ON MY XDA 2, BT TOOLS, AND I BONDED ON COM 4...BUT ALL TOMTOM 3 SHOWS IN LOWER BOX IS:
COM 2,9bt ON COM 6, AND bt GPS.....
NOTHING OF THEM WORK...
PLEASE HELP ME...
@RDKAY:
Great to hear I am not the only one suffering from the TomTom hanging without GPS connected.
BTW: What ROM are you using?
I put bluetooth in discoverable mode, it finds the holux gps, it asks "do you want this device as a serial device" answer yes. Switch bluetooth to on, in tomtom, the top box reads tomtom wireless gps, the bottom box reads com 5, it works perfectly.
Im sure you all have latest opdate from tt..or? had the same problem activating major roads, opdate solved this problem..why use wizard changing gps? uncheck recieve all incoming beams in connections, go to programs/tomtom gps change gps to any serial gps..(not uncheking gives an error message: can not open com 1: port does not exits. rom 1.66.00).

I think it might be true that updating TT would do things better but:
I have bought TT with maps for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. And I just needed a Spain Map also which you cannot buy individually (TT just told me to buy also the Westeuropean package... ) so I got the Spain Map from Emule.
Now when I do the TT update the Spain map doesn't work anymore, so I cannot do the update....

TTN5 and Universal

I can't get TTN5 to pick up my BT GPS. I think the problem is that I can only seem to be able to assign COM0, COM8 or COM4 in the BT settings dialogue.
TTN5 need 6 or 7 IIRC.
Even though the BT COM ports dialogue allows me to select any COM from 0 to 9. It complains about not being able to create the port if I select anything other than 0, 8 or 4.
Any ideas?
I am having the same issue connecting with my GPS and Destinator 3 s/w.
Try pairing the GPS with your device before loading tomtom, and assign COM0. That's what I did and tomtom picked up the device immediately without problems.
Having said that my GPS is a tomtom.
Can't install TT5... any suggestion?
I get an error and than installation quits...
you have to connect through COM5. At least it works for me.
Strange enough, now Tomtom doesn't show this port anymore, so they day they unpair, I'm screwed.
I have the same problem. I can only select com 0, 4 or 8 and none of these ports show up in TT5. I am unable to make it work. I even tried ti activate the GPS control panel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=154825#154825) but it seems this control panel does actually not work (probably why it was hidden in the first place).
Any suggestions to make TT5 work are very welcome.
Some how (no idea how), TT5 was working with the GPS. Yeterday I had to hard reset due to several reasons, I now, again, I cannot manage to connect the damn bluetooth GPS.
Same reason as always: NO COM5 in TT5.
Damn!
Guys now I am really stuck! I have been messing about with the registry, this is what i have found; COM6 friendly name is RIL (radio something or another I think basically the phone etc…) I have changed that to another port (HKLM\Drivers\BuilIn\Serial….) changing the index to another port i.e. a free one like 0/4/8 upon reboot allows me to map port 6 to BT gps under MSBT stack; however the phone (radio) stops functioning although BT serial port has been assigned to 6 TT5 still does not start the connection! Looking through the reg under HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\serial_BTUR this is the default BT serial port; this is set to port 7 (Index) if you change that port to something other than 7 reboot BT stops working. I have loaded the old TT3.7 GPS driver/software (Not complete TT3 just the gps update) and I can connect and communicate with the BT GPS. The BT GPS is seen as BT GPS. I can leave it connected however as soon as I fire up TT5 still no GPS communication. Tried to get TT5 working for over a week and have still failed. I think we need to find how TT5 detects available ports and edit/hack that area. There is on thing I have noticed though; if I select TomTom GPS there appears to be some BT communication although no thing on the GPS screen the BT light on my GPS unit (Fortuna) flickers periodically. Seriously stuck any help greatly appreciated as I am currently running out of ideas…..

I've completely given up. I've spent most of the day hacking the registry to COM5, with multiple combinations on the GPS control panel, etc... with no success.
I've hard reseted the device and I won't install TT5 until someone figures out how to connect it to a Bluetooth GPS.
I can't believe such a new device hasn't sorted out a simple connection to a Bluetooth GPS.
Well... not yet.
I've been able to set up TT5 working with my old Bluetooth GPS, but it doesn't work with my new Syson Blue Sirf III. Have no idea why, maybe someone can lighten me up.
Anyway, this is what I've done for non SIRF III and it works for me.
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 8.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 8 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
Hope it works for everybody.
Now, how to make it work in SIRF III - no idea. I've made the same process with the Sirf III GPS and it doesn't connect.
Success!!!!
You sir, are a genius.
I salute you.
I've got a Fortuna Clip on and it sucks

MIracle, got it to work. Clip on + tt 5.1
This how I did it:
1.) IN BT settings, (After having paired and chosen 'Serial', went to COM ports and selected 0
2.) Then, from inside tt5, went to gps...picked the 'other BT', it ehn showed IR ports, serial cable etc, Port 7 (no use, couldn't do much) and THEN Com port 0. Clicked that and it worked.
Done

slight subject change, but.... JasJar, Tomtom 5.1.......slight twist
possible to have the 100mb GB map stored on the phone, so to use a SD GPS Card?, Due to the new memory layout of the phone this could be an issue.
I have that and TTN3 was ok with the 32mb map in, but since 5.1 you cant have smaller than GB 105mb, so im stuck on TTN3 for SD GPS unit and TTN5 for the, err not yet purchased BT GPS unit,
Some sort of map cutter would be nice,
Ive ordered my Jasjar but waiting for the post,
What i really what to know is, do i put the SD GPS unit on ebay now and recoupe some losses having to get a bluetooth unit or not ????

Jasjar, BT GPS and TT V5.1
Some people here state that they installed TT V5.1. Actually V5.1 is an upgrade that can be downloaded from the TT support site. It requires V5 as a basis. BUT the V5.1 only comes in EXE format (no CAB fiile) so I wonder how you guys were able to get 5.1 installed as the setup program crashes as soon as it connects to Activesync 4.0 or 4.1.
?
you have to copy the 5.0 cab files across, then run them and it installs that way,
then just the 5.1 ugrade to copy across
faisal.husain: no idea about how to install de Widcom BT. That is out of my league.
JoseF:
Start from zero. Erase your bond with your GPS. Start TT5 and select any port that you have free (COM7 or even Serial on COM1).
Pair your GPS and follow the steps I've mentioned. It should work, but only, if it's not a non SIRF III gps.

GPS DEVICE WONT BOND!

Hey there guys,
I got a problem, obviously
I have an Emtac III GPS unit: http://www.emtac.com/products/bluetooth/datasheet_btgpsiii.html
When I try to bond it, I get a yellow Q-mark. I get that even Before I try to add the password.
Secondly, Emtac does NOT have password, i.e. most BT devices have "0000" but this one hasnt got one.
In wm5.0 you HAVE to add a password in order to be able to click "Next" when adding a device. So I tried 0000, and also 0183 (which I got from a vendor).
None of them works, so my GPS device isnt bonded correctly and therefore I cant use it with Destinator GPS (like Tom Tom).
Does anyone know a fix/trick or anything that might help me??
NOTE: It worked great with my Magician before, no hassle there. So the GPS unit is fine.
[/img]
Not much I can add, only that the vendor passkey is the right one, as stated in the manual. Good luck. In most cases where a pairing process is not working the device driver is at fault, in other words not the right one for the device. Maybe a Win Mobile 5 issue, wrong driver (since it was working on your previous device). Suggest you check if you have the latest driver. Good luck.
Hi,
I'm also having the same problem with my Emtac III and my Jamin.
Again, it worked a treat with my old XDA2.
How did you go?
Did you find a fix?
Cheers,
Dev
Hi,
I have an i-Blue GPS and when I first bonded it, it had the same Question Mark as you. I then had to set up a new outgoing com port (next tab over) and then select the GPS device and pick a com port that was available - Com6 in my case.
I then edited my navigator.cfg file to force it to pick up Com6 as I couldn't pick it up from the list within navigator.
Have you gone through the steps of adding an outgoing port? This is a necessary step.
Hope it helps.
Craig.
Thanks Cags.
No I haven't set up an outgoing port, so I'll give it a whirl.
Destinator PN is the same as it only allows a certain number of comm ports to choose from.
Any got any ideas what file on Destinator PN I need to edit?
Cheers,
Deva
Hey thedeva,
I don't have any experience with Destinator sorry and I only had to change my cfg file because the options within Navigator wouldn't allow me to choose a com port that was allowable by the phone - I only had com 5 or 6. Maybe the port that your phone allows you to pick will be permitted in Destinator.
Sorry that doesn't help too much.
Craig.

Set up a NEW OUTGOING COM PORT on com ports tab (in bluetooth settings) - COM6 with secure connection - Open Destinator and go to gps settings and either hit find gps either put COM6 - 57600 - NMEA manually and it should work fine.
IF YOU USE DESTINATOR 6 (NEWER THAN PN) AND YOU HAVE SWICHED EMTAC GPS FROM NMEA MODE TO SIRF WITH CRUX VIEW IT WILL NOT WORK. SWICH IT BACK AGAIN TO NMEA MODE AND IT WILL WORK FINE.
Hope this one will help you out.
Cheers.

Gps don't have password on device such as HP but on qtek (HTC) yes
the Emtac PW is different than other Gps (usually oooo )
Emtac PW is : 0183
try this you will see it work
TomTom and BT GPS
I believe TomTom requires the name of the GPS to end in "GPS"... try renaming it - or deleting and re-doing the partnership.

GPS in settings, tomtom problem

I am trying to set up tomtom 5.21 with my BTGPS74 receiver but cant get the two to communicate. I know there is some settings you can change in settings/system/gps but the problem I have is I dont have the gps option in settings anywhere. Am I missing something? Does any on know what I should do. Tomtom wants me to use port 3 or 7 but when I try to set them in bluetooth settings it says its not possible check your settings. Any suggestions would b welcome. Thanks.
P.S I know the receiver works as it still works well with my N70.
...you should've gotten a GPS icon if software GPS recognized.
In rgister you can force simulation.
hklm\controlpanel\gps]
delete redirect and add 'group' with dword=2
Then GPS icon will appear.
I gave it programport 7,hardware 6, baudrate=57600
gps auto checked
I'm not sure about the settings...
I had to create incomming and outgoing com ports on my 3100 (not sure if you need both)??
TomTom used com port 9 and works like a dream
as soon as you start the programme it connects automatically as long as my receiver is on.
It even connects when the BT on the 3100 is turned off - it starts the BT automaticlally when tomtom runs!
Yeah i agree all you need to do is set up the com ports, then fire up tomtom and select the com port you just set up and away it goes
Chris
Thanks for the replies guys. I know I have to set the com ports but the problem I have is there is nowhere for me to do this. For some reason the gps settings is missing from the system/settings. I am going to try to reinstall tomtom to see if it helps. Tomtom has ports 3 and 7 showing but they seem to be taken by something else so I cant configure my receiver on either of them.
I have a slightly different problem... my TyTn can connect to the BT GPS reciever, but as soon as TomTom tries to calculate a route, or I click the GPS signal icon it crashes back to the Today screen...
I've got TomTom installed with 5.21 update, anyone had any problems like this?
you just need to pair your bluetooth device go to settings connections and bluetooth and add new device, let your tytn search and it will find a new device when you have paired it select new comm port outgoing
I have no gps setting in control panel either
Cheers
Chris
Hi,
i have a strange problem with my BT. I cant create a incoming or outgoing BT port. I dont know why but it wont let me create any ports.
Anyone with the same odd problem?
I had a similar problem, Tytn would only let me choose COM0 (Zero) as outgoing port, and TT works fine with it. However, I would like to add Mapking for Asia, and this navi soft will not accept a GPS on COM0. Anybody understands why Tytn is only offering COM0 as outgoing ports for GPS?
I have set the com4 as outgoing port and now tomtom seems to work fine.
thanks for that info.
I don't know why only port 0 and all other ports are blocked but TT works for me now. I only need to wait for a better ROM and i can leave my Wizard home
I have written to a good contact at HTC since I need COM ports other than 0 for Asian Mapking navi soft (in add. to TT) . Will keep you posted.
Answer from HTC:
"As my testing, the Outgoing port is not limited with COM0. PaPaGo can accept with COM0, COM2, COM4, COM8, and COM9. I think the limitation of COM0 is the software limitation of TOMTOM, So if the user wants to use Mapking that only support COM1~7, he need delete the outgoing port COM0, and reassign another COM port for the BT GPS."
I imagine the problem lies between the Tytn and TomTom only, and other navi soft would find other COM ports. But I am kind of hesitant to interfere with a working TomTom, and go through the outgoing COM port game again...
I'm using Navigon and set up an outgoing Connection on com2 and it works fine for me.
sounds like TT is the problem ...

Guys, let me try to help you a little bit, as I work in navigation software development (Destinator).
1. The COM ports has nothing to do with the actual software you are running. This is pre-defined in the ROM you are using. That is also the reason why we see variations here - we use different ROMs.
2. In order of enabling a COM port, you do NOT need to discover the GPS icon on the settings. It is quite useless unless you wish to work simultaniusly with more than one software.
3. To enable a COM port, after you pair the GPS, look down for the tab COM Ports in the BT settings Manager. You only need to create Outgoing COM.
4. Strange but usually you will only be able to choose between 2 COM ports. The rest are hidden by the OS. MAKE SURE that you disabled the "Secure Connections". Default key for all the GPS receivers is "0000" and for Globalsat 308 is "2003". The last is AKA HP GPS.
5. If you cannot enable any other COM port than COM0, this is a ROM problem and you should contact your ROM provider like the mobile carrier. You can also try to enable other COM ports with the attached CAB file. Simply run it, it will expose all COM ports for you and now you should start trying. I reccomend to test COMs 4-8 first, normally, it will solve your problems. (Note: I got this file previously here and did not create it myself).
There have been may posts about TomTom not recognising B GPS's.
One solution that doesnlt seem to be mentioned here id to ensure that the name of the GPs in BT connections actually ends in "GPS"..
If it doesn;t renove the pairing and re-pari , but change the name this time to something that ends in "GPS"...
good luck

Thanks guys, found another solution that works for me now:
1) Set your Bluetooth GPS to another COM port than 0 (TomTom´s standard port 6 was not available, so I choose 2)
2) open Programs/Navigator/navigator.cfg with a text editor, change COM0 to COM2
3) start TomTom - working on COM 2!
Started Mapking, found COM 2 - working now.
hello fellas,
as you can see im new here. im thinking of buying the TYTN, a sector which i have never explored before (pda sector).
it sounds great with the applications and due to my work, a need for a pda is becoming bigger.
i posted in this message due to the GPS topic.
i got a very stupid question which you may recieve occasionally if i buy the tytn..
why do a person need BT enabled GPS? i read you can connect it to your PDA but for what reason?
thanks in advance and apologies for any inconvience..
@D_G - welcome to this board
In order to run navigation software on your Tytn you need a external GPS connected to it. Easiest solution is a external GPS connected via Bluetooth.
Another solution would be to buy a PDA phone with a GPS receiver on board, for example the ETen G500.
Of course we would all be interested in a UMTS PDA with integrated GPS, with acceptable battery life, but that will take some time...
thanks lucas for the answer. but why would you need a navigation software if you have a GPS device? in either case you will need to have both devices in a particula blue tooth range. right?
this means you will need your handheld device + the GPS to activate the navigation software, or dd I miss something?!

TYTN TomTom Bluetooth GPS

Got my htc tytn loaded totom 5 onto it and guess what bluetooth gps doesn't work with it! Cannot get correct comm port .According to HTC TomTom know about this. Just hoping somebody already has a fix for this?
Had no problems pairing my BT Slim GPS with my Vario II, TomTom runs fine.
What GPS receiver you using ?
works fine on my xda trion as well.......im using tom tom 5.21 with BT-338 gps receiver.......im also using com port 0......you basically have to pair it and then add outgoing port as com port 0.....and during the installation on tom tom make sure you choose com port 0......that worked for me anyways....hope that helps.
Bluetooth GPS HTC TYTN
Thanks guys have re-installed tomtom and now it comes up with com prt 0.Probably didn't install correctly first time .Now up and running .Fantastic!!!!

Hi everyone - I am having a similar problem
I have a new GPS receiver and have established a bluetooth partnership and done the outgoing port to com0 which is the default.
Tom Tom is installed and when I try and configure it I am not seeing all the options shown on the website. It just says no gps detected or something similar. I am sure its something simple.
Can anyone help please?

There's a program CreatePorts that is floating around (you'll have to do a search) that allows TomTom to see additional com ports in the Bluetooth GPS setup. I used this same program on my Samsung i730, and now on the 8525.
You just paid your GPS with the PPC, create the outbound port (in my case I used com 2), run CreatePorts, and then go in to TomTom GPS setup.
Once you get it set up, you don't have to run the app anymore, and TomTom works great
OUCH

I tried running this but i can still only assign certain points from my bluetooth manager and dont have these displayed on the tomtom menu.
When you go into the GPS Status settings on Tomtom and tap configure, have you tried looking to see which com ports it lists and then going back to the bluetooth settings and doing trial and error to allocate any of those port numbers as an outgoing port for your GPS unit?
For my genuine Tomtom GPS unit, I did not even have to set up a port, I just had to pair the device but when I used a friends alternative brand of GPS unit for a short while, I was only able to get that one working under Com port 4. I can't quite remember but it may even have been a case that Com 4 only became visible in the Tomtom GPS configure menu after I had allocated it as an outgoing port for the GPS device (sorry, it is a while back so I can't quite remember the order in which I set it up)
Hope you get it sorted
arghh
I a so annoyed. I did this and had no luck. Later on I did something and got the option for port 2 and used it and it was great. I had to do a soft reset for something else and I cant do it again. tried everything.
MMMM
Happy yet frustrated
I have deleted create ports from my device as it only works once. I have reset my device. I reinstalled createports and extracted the file. I then saw port 2 straight away - the one that had been missing in tomtom.
The only problem is that if I do a soft reset I have to do that again!
It is very frustrating trying to get some of these things working. Have you thought about upgrading to Tomtom 6? you may find you have less problems getting the pairing and ports working right.
Failing that, I am sure you will be able to get it working again, just keep trying all the com ports one by one until you find one that appears in the Tomtom configuration. Like I said, on my XDA Vario II (Hermes) I managed to get it working on Com 4 and when I had an XDA Mini S (Wizard) I seem to remember that it was either Com 6 or Com 7 which worked on that one.
You might want to check the bluetooth settings for security and beam as well. Try turning security off (ie. passkey required off) and make sure the beam setting is ticked to receive all incoming beams.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you

I have just seen another thread about XDA with a patch for this that seems to work. Can someone merge the threads?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find this program. I think that it is hidden on the web somewhere near the holy grail.

Pairing TOMTOM 6 with Bluetooth GPS (easy) - Kaiser
First after reading the posts I thought I had to reinstall Tom Tom or install another software. Luckily, I paused and read the message when I was about to configure my other bluetooth receiver. It said, first you must establish your bluetooth connection. Well, I lied coz I did try to go on and couldnt find COM 0 or whatever you guys have said.
But that's what I did, eventually. Paired the device as BT GPS, check the serial connection (not sure if secure connection needs to be checked but I left it unchecked to find out later). After that go to com port tab, and click add new port ie selected COM0.
Then go back to TT6 (restarted in my case), and to other bluetooth gps receiver then found COM 0 in there. Voila!!
Chose COM0, but still got no gps device message. Waited for about 2 mins while reading further into the posts and now my TT6 is working.
You could call that strike of luck I dont really care but yeah.. saving some batt power on my kaiser for the bank holiday;s trip. Have a great one everyone!!
P/s: Mine is O2 stellar on Dutty's great work.
Com 4 is the only one that works with Schaps 3.54
