XDA IIs Questions - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
I think these are probably often asked questions, but the 'search' function wasn't being too helpful, so apologies if they are duplicates. I have the following questions:
1. I have just been in an O2 shop and the guy in there suggested that the maximum memory you should put in an XDA IIs is 512MB as anything over this slows it down. However, I have seen on the xda mini site that they specify that they have tested with 1GB of memory. Ideally, I would like to put a 5GB card in it. What is the maximum amount of memory I could put in and what would be the performance implications?
2. Will the XDA IIs support the upgrade to Windows Mobile 2005?
3. Is there going to be an XDA III released in the UK soon? Should I wait for that?
Many thanks.
Frank

Anyone?

2 that depend on if anybody will release a 2005 rom for it
htc or tmobile or o2 or somebody like that is needed to release a rom or leak it because the 2005 rom for xda2 cant be used
1 havent heard about issues with SD cards which i'm asuming you talk about when you talk about addin memory
would suppose a 5GB sd card would be VERY expensive though

1) The biggest cards available now are 2gb
2) The hardware is easily capable of running it, but there is on word on if it will ever be made available
3) The XDA IIs is called the XDA III elsewhere - they are the exact same device.

Hi Dabs,
thanks for the response.
1). Oh ok, so how about the exaxt same question for a a 5GB CF card instead?
2). Ah, so theres a possible problem then.
3). Oh ok, cool, thanks for clearing that up.
many thanks
Frank

no CF slot on xda. dumb q

dumb question? I was told by one of the advisors on the Leeds O2 Business Centre that the XDA IIs could take an SD or a CF memory card. Who am I not to beleive him?
GIGO my friend.

Can anyone advise some cool stuff for XDA 2 ?????

Hi all,
OK so I bought my xda 1, about 2 months ago. After about a month I instaled the fantastic XDA developers rom 1.2. Wow, so much cool stuff. This is my first PDA, and I gotta say it's grown on me fast, so much so, I proudly took delivery of an xda 2, today .
Now back to my question, I'm not too clued up on Pocket PC OS, so what cool apps can I now use on my xda 2. I remember reading somewhere that loads of the apps in 1.2 won't work on the xda 2 OS.
Please advise.
Apps like...
pocketnav
eval
total commander
pocketchat
divx
gprsmonitor
and others....
oh and someone suggest a decent game so I can show of my new toy!
Cheers, Shire
It's hard to suggest something like that without knowing your personal prefrences Do search in Google, forums here, pocketpcpassion and pocketocthoughts it's a good start
re
aye, I apologise for such an open ended question, a bit silly of me really.
I guess I was really being a bit lazy in hoping peeps would recomend their favourite bits of cool stuff and where I could get it, rather than searching the net
I have looked around a few places, but get confused over the operating system, and processor type.
xda 2 is
PXA263 processor, umm does that mean it's ARM ?
and runs Windows Mobile 2003 ? umm never seem to see this mentioned as being an OS that apps can run on, or do I assume anything that runs on PPC2002 will run on the xda 2
You can tell from above comments I need a little guidance.
Cheers, Shire

Wireless n SD in the same card ?

Hi All,
Are there any cards on the market for the XDA II that have SD/MMC memory and wireless functionality in the same card ? I think I heard about it somewhere on here but I can't remember the name of the manufacturer, or if they are even available yet.
Any pointers appreciated,
Thanks,
Rob.
I read that DeTeWe want's to develop such a card
and show it on the Cebit, but I only read it...
Found this via Google:
Sandisk SD WIFI card with 128MB SDWSDB-128-485
Here's a brochure from Sandisk - but it claims that the 128 MB is for CF and 256 MB is for SD - go figure...
wow, that's a bit too pricey...
might wait for the price to go down on it though, cos it seems like an interesting idea, i want to try it out
I got one of these on ebay for £70. Hasnt arrived yet but will post a review when ive tried it.
Matt
A review when you get it would be very useful Matt..
Cheers,
Rob.

Micro SD card size

I am totally out of room on my 2gb. Is there anyone who could recommend a 4gb that will work with the 8525 please.
as far as i know (i'm interested in a 4gb also) the only one available (and its actually not available its only listed on the site as pre-order) is from www.jrs. or something, the link is on here but you'll have to search for it sorry
the sandisk microSDHC 4GB model is supported in the new Windows Mobile 6 ROMS from HTC for the Hermes...
There's lots of people that have 4gb micros. Look in the accessories threads to find out!
If you have a verizon store near you, you can probably pick one up Monday morning.
Oh, by the way, in case you haven't read (which I'm sure you haven't), you need one of the newer builds of WM6.
Edit: Sorry, walshieau, didn't mean to repeat you!
I'm using LVSW's latest. Am I good?

Rookie Questions

can any micro sd card of any size work with the HD2? Also my youtube icon is missing, how do I get it to show up on my phone?
bahardman
At the moment cards upto and including 16gb are fine to use, hopefully in the near future 32gb cards will be available at a reasonable price and with the support to use them.
Not too sure why you can't find the youtube app as you dont say where you got the phone from but I do recall hearing that in some case's the app had actually been removed but I'm not sure which provider did that.
I believe its t-mobile uk that has removed the youtube app in their branded hd2's.l
Thanks guys for the response, my HD2 is a T-Mobile UK phone, so I guess they removed it. Thanks once again, you guys are the best.

What Samsung replied to me when I asked about why we can't move apps fron internal me

Customer reference number:
Please quote your customer reference number when contacting Samsung
Email response ID:
Dear
Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.
Please note that moving or installing apps to external storage is no longer available on any Android from version 4.0 and above, due to how the Android operating system reads storage on our devices. The Android OS now operates on a unified storage system from Ice Cream Sandwich onward, meaning it will read one data partition for storage, rather than two.
The reason why previous Android versions had the capability of moving apps to external storage was because the phones memory was split into two partitions, one for external storage and one for internal.
Now, with Android using a unified storage system, all applications will be stored completely on the internal memory of the phone. This allows for around 11GB of storage space on a 16GB device for apps. Google, the developer of Android, feels this is more than enough for users, as their operating system was designed for use on their own phones as well, which do not have any external storage at all.
Please also note that we do not advertise any of our devices as having the capability of running or installing apps directly onto the external memory card. You will have to install your apps to the internal memory, but anything else (music, videos, documents etc.) can be stored on your external memory card.
If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.

The reason I ask them is that all the apps developers I asked told me/pointed me to Samsung for a solution or reason why I cant move item.
If I am not wrong I will have to ask Google for a solution.

What is the point of this? it is widely known that Google removed this since ICS. Deal with it, or root & hack your device. You can do a sd card swap, put a 64gb sd card in & use that as your main storage.. Or deal with it. It has been like this for 2 years. It is not like this just happened.

Why are you so aggressive to him?
Please be more friendly with new members.
The forum is here to help those that do not know and not to humiliate them for not knowing!
He is right! Movetosd apps blame Samsung instead of Google, so it is normal he asked explanations from Samsung!
If you are stock then yes complain to samsung but realize how ignorant you are for doing so. That is like complaining that your prius doesnt have 4 wheel drive with locking differentials. Or go root and who cares if someone tells u to pound sand?

1)
One can not "realize to be ignorant". It is a contradiction in terms.
If you realize it, you are not ignorant. If you are ignorant, you do not realize it.
2)
Go to the main movetosd app on google play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.curvefish.apps.movetosd
Description of the app by the programmer:
Please note, not all devices support this feature, i.e. Samsung S3. Xoom DO NOT support moving apps to SD Card, because it is already share memory with system. And this feature disabled by manufacturer of your device.
The programmer is guilty of misleading people into thinking it is the manufacturer's fault and not Google's fault.
Dear user 299792458, based on what I wrote above, someone you know very well is the ignorant here.
Be careful who you call ignorant, or you humiliate yourself by proving to be ignorant and unfriendly yourself.
Rejoice! The Christian God has resurrected!
Happy festivities to all Christian friends!

Its not a question of liking .
The comment was made twice that this is well known fact for over two years .Note two years its old old old information .
If you had bothered to follow XDA rules you would have searched first and not bothered to clutter the forum up . This is supposed to be XDA Developers forum not some skoolkids forum .
