PHM REgEdit
jfran,
PHM Reg EDIT sometimes does not gfet installed if you download the msi file and install the same using active sync. In Active Sync, it points to the file as already installed but you will not find it under programs
Instead download the CAB file and install using cabInstal. You can find the CAB file also in the same place as when you found the msi file in Phillippe's web site
Hope this helps
Cheers,
Deepak

Is it possible to change the default directory for saved messages to a directory on an SD card instead of the default directory in windows/messaging?

IIWPO uninstall problem

Hello.
I have installed the IIWPO (theft protection) program manually (not in ROM) for testing purposes. After uninstall an error message appeared periodicaly. The error txt is "Cannot execute \windows\IIWPO_main.exe". Also I can not find any reference to this file in the registry (maybe faulty registry editor, PHM ?) or in the startup folder. Also tried searching in the file contents on entire device. No success. Please, help, this error message is pissing me off
might be late, but...
I had the same problem. It seems that the IIWPO_startup.exe writes an additional string somewhere (*.dll?) which forces the program to start. Btw. this means that it is not necessary to put it into the AutoStart directory, it should be enough to open it just one time after the installation.
Until someone finds the destination of this string there is a simple work around: just put a program file you always like to execute at startup (e.g. ClearTemp.exe) into your windows directory and rename it to IIWPO_main.exe. This will help
p.s. hexediting of the startup and main.exe does not solve the above mentioned problem but gives your iiwpo files and registry settings the desired personal touch to remain undiscovered
I uninstall my IIWPO easily. All you need is to reverse all the steps you followed during installation.
Remember to delete the line from config file in extended rom followed by a hard reset
Of course a HARD RESET will also solve the problem
I'm having this same problem....any solution yet??????
The reason for this is in the windows registry there is still a link to the program causing it to start. Use a program such as memaid which will find all dead links and delete them i had a problem similar to this with another program. Memaid solved it for me, hope it works for you also

Thanks for the advice.........
unfortunately.............I tried memaid...........but it didn't solve the problem.....
anyone else?
Registry key location would be somewhere like HKLM to startup applications. Hard reset will definitely solve your problem.

Reg edits

Ive been looking for a while on this forum and wish to edit my registry to fix my camera etc..
The reg settings are no prob.. but could somebody please explain to me exactly what i need and how i go about editing the reg.
There was a a .cab file posted that told me to "put this on your phone then run it"(to fix the camera)
how do i run those files?.. i cant seem to find a file manager of any sort on my phone and active sync, although it lets me see the files, will not let me run them.
Any help anyone could give would be great.
I know this will be pretty simple for most people here, but ive only had this phone for 2 days and cant find any simple step by step instructions for doing things like this anywhere.
Check out gsfinder+ as a great free file explorer.
Check out PHM Tools for a free registry editor (there's another as well, called TRE I think).
I use Klimst (?) registry editor. Many people will recommend Resco or Total Commander to do both of these functions.

Thanks for your help.. it seems i totally forgot about the fiel manager there already (duh), and have now found the prog to edit reg settings.

Hidden files and registry after Rom upgrade, what's up ?

Hi !
I've just upgrade my 9000 with Rom 1.30.89 ITA
With the previous Rom I can move shortcuts in Start>Programs in sub-folders created by me (for example: PIE in a folder called Web)
But now i see the shortcuts (of the pre-installed applications in Rom as Word, Excel, Agenda....) in Programs are hidden files and I can't move to my customized folders, i get an error !
I have an italian OS and the error is "Accesso negato" (probably in English is "Access denied")
Same error when i try to modify the registry from PC with Mobile Registry Editor or Smartione.
What's up ?
Is not my first Pocket PC and with all my past device i always was able to move folders in Programs and edit the registry from PC, but now I don't know what can I do...
Anyone with this issue ?
Thanks
answer
cut and paste the shortcut icons. you will have to have any start menu aplications closed to do this. It will give you an error if you try to move those icons if you don't close those programs also clear out all the checkmarks under start-settings-menu. this should help
I had this issue as well on my Dopod 900. These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden.
I was using Resco File Explorer and it could not see these files. But checking the box "Show All Files", the files could be seen and moved.
Using File Explorer though, I am pretty sure that it sees the files with no problems. You can move them but you get a prompt saying that this might cause some problems with other software. Just have to click OK and it moves it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks sandrobber, I always close all the running application before moving the shortcuts and I clear all the checkmarks
@capkapak
You're right when you say "These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden."
Anyway thanks for your suggestion, I can move files with TotalCommander also (not only Resco) and modify the registry with PHM RegEditor
Obviously both installed in my 9000
But i would like move files and modify registry from my PC....
Ps: This is strange for me, I always was able to move files with ActiveSync and modify registry with Smartione without any problems.....
Thanks guys for your replies

Is There a Way to....

Hello All,
Is there a way to strip an installed application from a PPC into an installable .CAB file, if one has lost the installation files/DVD, but still have the application installed on the hand-held.
Thanks in Advance.
Not really.
You can always copy the files out (if you can find them all - some may be in windows folder or places other then the main app folder) but you still would need to know every registry key the app requires.
If you use sktools it tells you all the files installed and registry entries. You could then extract all the files as levenum said and make a cab including the registry entries.
Hi lev
ahh..hhaa !

My experience with SKTools makes me cringe...my ATRE would not stop rebooting until I remove the SD card(where SK Tool was installed and remove it completely.
What software do I need to make a .cab file ?
I will still make all efforts to attempt this anyways....
Ive had no problem with sktools - i always install to main memory. If you manually make your cab then use cabiwiz - or use a commercial app like wince cab manager. Which program are you trying to put together?
cabiwiz enclosed inc example app and tutorials
Funny thing - I was replying to another thread with similar question stating that there would be a problem finding out all the REG keys.
Then jackleung posted about a tool called "ssnap" that supposedly can take an image of the system.
Comparing an image from before and after installation should show all the changes a cab makes.
Since I am not personally familiar with the tool I can't say any more about it.
As for cab creation - while I use cabwiz my self, it is a command line tool and you need to know ho w to write inf files for it.
For a beginner an app like WinCE cab manager will be more comfortable.
It is a shareware, so it will stop working after a while unless you pay but it is very good.
P.S.
Hi Mark

REG Problem!

Hi there!
I'm having a problem with a reg file I would like to apply to my Touch HD.
I got installed the "PHM RegEdit" application and if I click the reg file, the application launches and I can not apply the changes.
If I uninstall "PHM RegEdit", I click on the reg file again and the device says that there is no application for such a file.
What can I do?
Greetings!
reg files is just text files you can open it in a text editor and
create or alter the registrys manualy to fit what the reg file include
Thanks for the answer.
I know that, but this reg file has many value changes, it would be better if I can apply it automatically.
Please! Anyone?
Is there another application to apply this reg files?
PHM RegEdit doesn't seem to work.
Greetings!
FdcSoft TaskManager by dotfred
simply post your regfile or copy/paste it here so that we can have a look at it
