.CAB files getting auto deleted... can it be prevented? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi,
Im using O2Auto.sa.cab (O2 Auto Network Configurations). I have put all of the networkxxxx.cab files in my Storage.
The problem is when I run the O2 Auto Network program and set it to configure other networks, the networkxxxx.cab are deleted.
The question is how can I prevent my cab files from getting deleted?
I have tried read-only options archive options already but they are still deleted once the cab file has been run.
Please can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance

I see 2 solutions :
- You use CabInstl and check "Do not delete CAB file"
- On your PC or PPC you edit the file properties and Check Attributes "Read Only"

Hi DocteurN,
Im not sure if thats going to work because I need use the program O2 Autoconfig, and this program automatically select which cab files to install. (the program runs the AutoConfig.txt file below and selects cab files for specific network); although all the cab files have been set to read-only, the O2 AutoConfig program still manages to delete them
What I need is a program to set premission on the cab files or the folder themselves so that they cannot be deleted by any program.. hope you understand what Im talking about :?
Thanks for the input by the way.

Preventing the CAB to be deleted
Use Resco Explorer or other that can manage the file attribute. Make the file attribute to read only (+R). Works with me the CAB won't be deleted.

Im also using Resco Explorer.. and the cabs have been set to read-only..
but the AutoConfig program still manages to delete the read-only cabs
I guess its the Autoconfig program is overriding the read-only properties of the cabs..
hmmmmm... not sure what I can do other than cracking up the AutoConfig program to not to delete the cabs..
Thanks for the input tho

How to control order of app launch after soft reset?

I've searched, couldn't find it, I know it must exist. Can someone point me to the right place that shows out how to do it?
Thanks
For those who are using O2mini............
In order to save some rom memory for your device to run faster and smoother, I would like to share with you all the method of viewing the extended rom on O2mini and install only those useful .cab file.
1. Backup whatever neccessary, perform a hard reset.
2. Follow the screen instruction, align screen, etc...
3. when the screen show setup is complete. Tap the screen to begin using your device, get ready your stylus pen, one tap on the screen and when you see "today" screen appear, do a soft reset immediately.
Well, you are now halfway to finish the slimming course
4. Now in your mini, you'll realise there's one new folder called "Extended_ROM" under your file explorer.
5. Build a "Guest" partnership and copy this folder to your PC.
6. Disconnect the sync.
7. ok, let's start to do some hanky panky things on your mini's extended rom........
8. Tap this file ------ Delete_vdisk_shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
9. And tap the following files
O2_User_Angent.sa.CAB (this one must install if you want to use O2plus)
Patch_103_7.sa.CAB
Patch_WWE_103155.sa.CAB
Version_WWE_103166.sa.CAB14.
10. ok, make sure you've done all the tapping and double tap this file "TPEnable.exe" to unlock.
11. that's it, softreset your device and now you can see the different.
You can do some memory comparison before & after. Dont worry, your device will be back to normal if you do a hardreset again. everything will be fine.......
try it.....
After gone through the Extended_ROM, i found a file called 'Config.txt'. This looks like a script for autoinstallation all the cabs after a hardreset.
Check this out:

Above are all the cabs I installed on my Mini except those with remark "not installed". That means, about "7135KB" cab files i did not installed & yet it doesnt meant I have saved that amount of spaces cause some of the cabs will auto delete specific files after an installations.
So my estimated amount space saved is about 5.4MB.
Now I have no prob with GPRS, MMS & O2 Connect/Plus.
Wow, a lot of work and reading there. Why not just download sktools 4.0 and have it do it for you? Much easier than going through all of that imo.
you might want to check under '\windows\startup' some of the links here can be safely removed if you want copy it to another folder like '\windows\startup_backup' so if you make a mistake then you can undo it. personally i have 5 items in startup. the rest i moved to my backup folder. i noticed a slight increase in spped after soft reset.

@minhtv:
hi, i followed all your steps, but very strange, after the last step (softreset) i found i still have only 7mb left in storage... didnt change from the original installation with all the ext rom.. any thing wrong? oh, i could nt find these 2 files in my ext rom folder:
Patch_103_7.sa.CAB
Patch_WWE_103155.sa.CAB
and, when i double click tpenable, nothing happened.. but i did clicked it many times just to make sure...
any idea?? thanks

When came across to do NO install on ExtROM (or say, custom ExtROM installation), seems we are just blind guess and just use the method of "trial-and-error" to install cab inside ExtROM.
Do anyone have file details about them? or share your findings about ExtROM?

Um, what's the question?
You can't easily unlock the Magician's ExtROM anyway, so you can't change the files in it. It MAY be possible to install your own CABs in it if you could get the files unlocked, by altering the config.txt and having a read-only CAB, but until the Magician ExtROM can be unlocked, it cannot be done.
I am not wondering the method how to delete those ext. rom information. Instead, I would like to know which cab is/are necessary, which is/are not.
It is based on the idea that "Default ExtROM always instead something eat your valuable RAM".
If you think it is fine for default installation, it is always fine.
I know people who don't need the camera and have successfully removed ALL CABs from their XDA II!
As a general guide, you need the Smart Dialling, Phone Pad, Camera, Java VM, Patch_WWE_103155 and Version_WWE_103166.sa.CAB files as a "minimum" to get a useable device. Without these, some core functions don't work.
You DON'T need TPDisable - in fact, by removing it, you get interactive prompts for each ExtROM CAB on a hard reset - allowing you to install the "core" files to an SD Card if you want! I wouldn't recommend it, as some SD Cards take too long to "boot" in soft-reset or standby modes, and can cause your PDA to hang.
You still can't delete the other files easily either though, as the locked ExtROM is still unable (as far as I know) to be unlocked on the Magician.

Every file gets installed (automatically) in the Main Memory of my Wizard.
Now would I like to know if it's possible to adjust the config.txt file (with some kind of parameter) to install files to the Main Memory OR the Storage Card.
After a hard-reset I spend a lot of time installing my cabs again, so I would like to do this with a script (based on the AutoRun and config from the Extended_Rom).
Anyone know if this is possible?

I think not - its not the script that determines where the files are installed but the inf file in the cab. You could try unpacking the cab and editing the inf file and then putting the cab together again.
That sucks bigtime!
So the only way to automatically install cabs on the Storage Card is editing the cabs theirselves?
Then I will stick with my first option....manual install of every cab file

does any body know what is the CAB that install the camera?
I tried to delete the camera.exe ffile from window directory but the file is marked ROM and cannot be deleted.
Can anyone suggest how to disable the camera?
Thanks

You can overwrite the camera.exe (which I am pretty sure is in actual ROM and has nothing to do with the extended) with en empty file with the same name.
This will prevent it from being launched, but the real question is will the security people in you company trust you to not re-enable the camera?

How do "overwrite" a file that is in actual ROM. I cannot rename is so I do I overwite?
Just drop the file in windows directory. What happens is: the file you copied is placed in program memory (flash) but because it has the same name and is in the same directory it "hides" the original file from anyone trying to access it.
Make sure the file is not in use when doing this.
Thank's
I did that using resco explorer and it worked. Istill need to convince security that it is a good solution.
What will happen after Hard / Soft reset. will the original file come back ??
Soft reset will have no effect, but hard reset will erase the replacement file.
Now let's hope they won't make you physically dismantle the camera or get another phone

I noticed that you have some typo errors at the end of your config.txt file. You can try my suggestion above or correct the typo errors.
I can confirm 4GB SD Card working in BlueAngel from 10 November 2006
As the O2 XDA hardware now has little resale value I decided that it would be an intellectual challenge upgrading WM 2003SE to Hemli WM6.
It is certainly that!
Using an O2 XDA IIs, WM6 Settings Storage Card Memory displays Total storage card memory 3828.52 MB In use 1307.7 MB Free: 2510.82 MB.
Most of the Storage Card is taken up with programs storage such as Landware Pocket Quicken, Metro, Blue Angel Tools, TomTom v6.1, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Australia Maps and My Documents.
In 2006 I was irritated having to manage the TomTom Country Maps I needed that operated on separate 1 GB SD Cards.
My T-Mobile MDA Vario II has a 2 GB miniSD card and I understand larger capacities exist and perhaps will be supported
Trust the information here is helpful
WM6 ExtROM CFG.TXT results in no change to “Phone No Service” and WMP “Cannot play it

Thank you
Zard the suggested WM6 ExtROM CFG.TXT results in no change to “Phone No Service” and WMP “Cannot play items list”
Meticulously checked typos in CFG.TXT and all OK, (me things “B” off .CAB is word document cut and paste contingency to XDA Developer query)
Hard Reset WM6 changed KITL value NO, Clean Registry Hive value YES, Format Storage value YES.
Your EXTROM CFG.TXT items run, WM6 resets.

Some times, the simple things work
I received an email from a friend today it reads
Is your house haunted? Damage appearing on cars, jumping washing machines, disappearing trailers me would go to see the local priest and get him to perform an exorcism or whatever.
Today I called the O2 Customer Service and discovered that BT disconnected my PAYG O2 SIM Card during August 2007.
In their wisdom, BT stopped the PAYG SIM card Phone Service because the phone use had been inactive six months (Current active phone use is T-Mobile MDA Vario II and PAYG SIM card).
I appear to be the victim of using the O2 XDA IIs exclusively in the past for TomTom Navigator backup or perhaps I am the subject of Poltergeists.
Now using O2 XDA product testing WM6 by Helmi
My current objective is getting PDA A2DP installed and working and Bluetooth connect PDA and Headphones in a motorcycle helmet and do even more screaming at TomTom navigator Western Europe
