XDA 11 using Vodafone SIM for GPRS error messages on IE - Networking

Thanks everyone for the forum. I used it to unlock my O2 XDA11 so that my new (paid for by my work) Vodafone SIMcard would work in it. All has worked well, and I can phone from it and browse the net using GSM dial up, but although it says that GPRS is connected, IE simply returns "page not found" errors as soon as you request any page. Email also gives a message about the pop mailserver not being available. I have checked many times with VOodafone and they are sure that I am properly set up with a GPRS access point at their end. Has anyone come across this problem and would you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Which GPRS access point are you using? Internet or WAP?
I've had no problems setting up my unlocked XDAII on vodafone.
Check your settings again the ones I posted in this thread if you are unsure (second post).
It might also be helpful to know if you have a clean config, or if you have left all the o2 customization on the phone.
Just thought I'd attach the Vodafone UK customization CAB (see below)
I haven't installed this myself - but it's from the i-mate site and I've checked the CAB and it appears to have the correct settings in it.
So it should configure the device correctly.

Thanks,
I'm using the web access point and i've configured that under "my ISP" in "connections". I have also tried it with wap settings under "my work connection". In either case the connections icon in the top of the today screen indicates GPRS connection. I have however left all O2 customisations on the machine, indeed I updated the O2 rom to the latest and final version just in case. Should I remove the O2 today screen? and How?

Dear Webspider,
the cab you pointed me to has cured the problem. I uninstalled all of the O2 today screen stuff as well, and it all works a treat now.
Thanks a lot.

Glad to hear it. It must have been a configuration problem then.
So since your Vodafone contract is paid for by your work will you be using GPRS to stream radio etc....
Radio really works really well....I seem to get better speeds on the mobile then when I used to use dial-up on my computer.

GPRS on O2 using a T-Mobile MDA

I have T-Mobile MDA which I unlocked using the unlocker on this site (Brilliant!) so that I can use it on O2 payg. Now I want to be able to connect to the net using GPRS but the phone has all the preinstalled T-Mobile settings. Does anyone know how I can overwrite these with O2's.
I tried the O2 upgrade but this was not successful as the phone is T-mobile.
I know I used to have a phone many years ago which was on Vodafone, and I called O2 and they just asked for the make and model of the phone and they sent the settings to the phone. I'm sure you can download the settings from the O2 site yourself too

02 uk rom?

Has anyone managed to get a tytn working on the uk o2 network? o2 say theu do not support the phone although they have the phone in germany listed as an xda trion. I can make calls and texts with my simcard but have no 3g access as yet. The phone was originally on vodaphone. Any help appreciated !
dont you just need to edit the connection settings for o2?
these should be the same for any o2 phone that uses 3g...
i believe they are posted on the wiki
thanks for quick answer
Thats what i thought, but phoned o2 for the settings and they just kept saying that the "software" in this phone is not compatible with o2 network and therefore there is no support for it and no settings ! MUPPETS !
Any idea where i can find the settings for a normal o2 phone?
Worth a try, I really want this phone on o2 !

I smell COW DUNG!!!! O2 are spinning rubbish to you sir...ive been using a TyTN since the middle of August with O2-UK (see stats hehehe).
Il get my settings into a .txt file for you...theres some variations you can use but il set you up with the ones that work ok??
What are you on PAYG or Contract???
P.S: My TyTN is a genuine HTC TyTN (i.e not a varioII or imate JASJAM variation of it) bought it unbranded(unlocked) from mobilefun.co.uk....sim free.
Theres a cab file with the O2 UK settings somewhere on this forum I usen it all the time. Sorry I don't have the link anymore after the XDA Dev switch to new servers. Also O2 3G works perfectly fine with the tytn. What you do have to have is a 3G enabled sim card, I had to get mine changed for one & also do you have O2 3G coverage where you are? To determine if you have just whip out the sim card & it should have 3G printed on it.
Yer if your SIM is not a 3G enabled one (USIM) then give O2 a bell and say you have recently aquired a 3G handset and need a new SIM card for it to work with the 3G service....they should send one out (for free)...when it turns up just call O2 again and get them to enable it.
What they said about the TyTN not being supported is a crock of sh*t .... im guessing they will only give you the settings when its an O2 handset!?
Forgot to add the O2 3G settings are exactly the same as the normal GPRS. You just need a 3G enabled sim card

"3" Australia Carrier Operator Settings

Hi All,
I have an Imate Jasjam which the extended ROM has many operator setting cabs except for "3" Australia (hutchison telecom).
I know that 3 Aust sell the Dopod 838pro therefore they must have some cabs to set the device for mms, gprs umts and other services.
If anyone has the Dopod 838pro from "3" in Australia, could you please retrieve the cab files for me in your extended rom.
Its a real pain in th @ss as "3" wont help me over the phone, and thye cannot send me any settings. They were acutally surprised that the Jasjam works with their sim card, even though all hermes devices are the same. go figure.....
anyways, any help will be greatly appeciated.
Cheers,
Anyone?
Can any Dopod 838pro owners help?
Thanks
Ronny
Here is the mobile internet settings
don't have the cab but i got the settings for Three Aus
To get mobile internet
Go to settings -> Connections -> Connections
Add a new modem connection
Name the connection Three (or anything else)
Use Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) as your modem
Access point name is "3services"
NO USERNAMES OR PASSWORDS JUST CLICK FINISH
And your internet is set up
Hope that helps
JasJam on Three
Hi All,
I am very new to this and not overly technical so firstly many thanks for the internet settings above as they worked just fine.
Secondly, would anyone have the settings to get MMS and Video etc working on a jasjam? I bought one off ebay but I am with Three network and while I can make normal calls (and now get the My3) I cannot get MMS, video calls or other 3 options working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

GPRS settings for O2 UK

Hi,
I recently obtained an HTC Hermes (MDA Vario II) which I am using with a contract O2 UK SIM card. It's working fine for voice and SMS and the WiFi data connectivity is also OK but I can't connect to O2 GPRS because I don't have the right settings for WAP.
O2 won't give them to me as I'm supposed to get them by running the "get settings" program flashed onto the device, obviously I have the wrong version as the device was originally sold by T-mobile.
If anyone's got working settings for network connectivity and MMS on O2 UK I would be most grateful if you could post them.
Cheers.

The O2 Payg settings are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1286112
The rest I can post later if needs be, but they are reasonably easily Googled.
Mike
Here is a cab file I use for O2 uk settings, it can be set up for PAYG or monthly contract.
@BOZ
That's just too easy, in my day you'd have to fetch out a stack of punch cards - nowadays it's a cab file for this an exe for that! What's the world coming to!
Mike
Hi Mike, using the cab file instead of inputting by hand means I save enough time to make a nice mug of tea!

UK pay&go Himalaya settings for GPRS/MMS etc

Hi,
Now I successfuly got WM6 running I want to properly sort out my Himi to be about to MMS , browse and finally email.
I have seen so much conflicting info and setting advice I am truely lost.
I am presently on o2 payandgo and the sim definately was enabled for MMS in my old K700i phone.
Can someone talk me through whatever various new connections I must make to get the above working on o2.
I heard that maybe o2 doesn't allow GPRS browsing/email on pay&go sims. Can anyone comment ?
If anybody in the UK has got a Himi or similar running 100% with any other UK pay and go provider EG Voda, Orange , T-Mobile , Virgin , even Tesco then I
'd like to hear about it and share your setting details.
Thanks
