improve sandisk sdio wifi card performance - Networking

i got a sandisk sdio wifi card two weeks ago, for my brand new tsm500 (same as xdaII) and at first was very disappointed as card was very slow. Supposing was due to some special configuration of my home wireless network, i tried all the tips i know about, with no results at all. Took a look on the net and found out that most of users of this card got the same problem. but found the solution, too, on a spanish forum: uninstall sandisk drivers and install the ones from www.socketcom.com, its sdio wifi card has the same chipset. new drivers makes card much faster, has got a more friendly desing and its configuration is very easy. just try it and post the results.

Sandisk 256MB + Wifi and MDA Compact
These drivers don't work with Sandisk 256MB + Wifi and MDA Compact. I don't know witch devices doesn't work but I think it's the Sandisk 256MB + Wifi.

Do the Sockets drivers work with the standard SD WI-FI (the one without the ram) and the MDA Compact IMATE Jam?

These drivers work fine for me, using a standard Sandisk Wifi card (without extra RAM) on a XDA2

Is that the low voltage sandisk card?

Yes, it will work. SanDisk only came out with 2 SDIO WiFi devices, the first one having no storage, and the second on with 256MB of storage. SO if your card is the one without storage, it will definitely work.

Sandisk sd WiFi only card faulty & now obsolete

I purchase a new Sandisk sd WiFi card off e-bay, and it worked okay in my Compact the first time, the second time it failed (no lights).
After a lengthy support call to Sandisk in the US (via UK number), the diagnosis was that the card had died.
Fortunately Sandisk have a couple of UK companies that can handle warrantee claims and my card was dispatched in the post.
I have just had an e-mail from them saying that the card had indeed failed, and that they would be dispatching a new WiFi + 256Mb card instead of the WiFi only card because this card was now obsolete.
I quess i can live with that!!!
Thumbs up for Sandisk, i just hope that my Compact has not caused the failure of the card somehow with a faulty SDIO slot? Memory cards work fine so I hope that the card failure was a one off.
Mike.
Hi,
Wait until you install the driver of Sandisk 256+wifi on compact.
The driver provided by Sandisk is not compatible with WM2003SE. It is only compatible with WM2003. There are a lot of complain say that this incompatible driver caused compact to work not as stable as before.
I contact Sandisk about this and they say that they never say their driver compatible with WM2003SE. Sad!!!
Best regards,
Arto.
Yes Sandisk did say to me that the driver is WM2003, not WM2003SE.
I guess i will have no option but to use the WM2003 driver, what other option is there?
Thanks,
Mike.

Okay, but you still need the Sandisk driver, and the Socket utility is a bonus add-on.
Looks a neat utility though Thanks.

I use a sandisk card, but use the socket driver. Works a treat. Couldn't get the sandisk driver to work!!
Is the socket driver working with combo memory and wifi?
If "yes", I will try socket driver. Headache with Sandisk driver
Thanks
Best regards,
Arto
Sorry this is only wifi not combo but I think the Socket drivers are better.
I did read that the combo may not work in certain devices not sure if this included the jam.
Regards
I have a Jam running ROM 1.06 WWE. My Sandisk 256 meg is working great with the LATEST dirvers from Sandisk.

It may not specify that it works with SE, but it works fine on my Jam. I have access to my home network and do file exchanges with no problem. The only problem I had was when I tried to connect to my network when my router SSID was turned off. So I turned it on and then set up my security settings on my Jam and then turned it off again and had no more problems.

So the problem is only the memory chip?
Sandisk Wifi card without it is compatible?
Thank's a lot.
Hi..
yeah well not really because i think that people can use the memory but not the wifi it require some special driver to use both things
and xda's dont have that driver and cant have it installed i think
yeah the non mem sandisk is fine and so i sockets or what ever the other company who use the same chip is called
SANDISK and SPECTEC .... compatibility

in my old times ;-PP I have been using sandisk SDIO WLAN card with XDA II and it was working for me, my friends have also reported succesfull operation withy sandisk card ....
I have not tried combo from sandisk (wlan + memory) at that time it was too expensive
you can also try SPECTEC WLAN (card has been reported to work on MDA mini etc.) card that is recently out to the market, it is much shorter and cheaper as compared to Sandisk .... for photos and simple comparison here it the link, although it is in my mother tongue .... just look for the pictures ;-)

i am running the spectec sdw-820 since almost two weeks and it runs flawlessly even under buzzmobile 2005 with the current driver release 1.24.2 the only contra is that only very few network tools/scanner run under buzzmobile 2005.
handling and using is very easy. i am excited about that small sized wifi-card.

What SD Card Are You Using?

Hi guys,
looking to get a 1gb sd card for the Magician M500 to upgrade from a Sandisk 256mb card.
Just looking around on forums but people are saying some do work and some dont!
The obvious card that i was going to get is the ADATA Myflash 1gb 150x,
due to its speed, however some of you saying this card does not work?
So the question is what card do you use and what size is it?
Thanks
Ambro
come on 13 views already and no one has replied?
you cant be that lazy can you to reply back?
I use San-Disk 1gb Extreme III
works perfect, and fast
Ok, ok, hold your horses.....
I'm using SanDisk 1.0 GB (normal one) without problems
under 2005 on a SPV M1000.
i am using fujifilm 1GB SD card with no problems at all
I used to use a 'normal' SanDisk 1GB
I now use a Zynet 2GB running at 68x speed.
I think there are far more issues with 2GB cards and the JAM than 1GB.
The ADATA 150x 2GB did not work on my device.

yeah dont think that the spv m1000 has any problems with 1gb or 2gb Sd cards, i was on about the M500 its a different type of phone to the M1000! and its known as the imate jam or magician aswell as the M500.. (hence this was posted in the magician forum)
thanks for the feedback so far though
sh500:
when i transfer using Activesync and my magician i get speeds of about just under 2700kbps, what kinda of speeds are you getting with a 68x card?
you can find out by using analog x netstat live.
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/nsl.htm
Install that prog and load it up comes up with a panel, right click and configure and it shows tcp/ip interface select the 127.0.0.1 and measure in bits! it will display the speed of transfer between phone and computer!
Attached my sample...
Rougly achieved 2600kbps using Sandisk 256mb Ultra II Sd Card..
ambro,
I'm afraid I cannot check as my JAM is in repair for a dead pixel!
I think the Ultra II is almost the same speed (as 68x) is it not?
Plus, although im no expert, i think there is a limit to how fast our JAMs can utilise anyway. I may be wrong.
I am using an 1 Gb Princeton card on my new Qtek S110 and it works very good. I had no problems with it.
just been told about this 1gb memory card at eBuyer..
its £39.99 1GB Viking SD Card
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=82393
Its not one of the high speed ones but its cheap!
thinking about purchasing it btw i've been told it works with the Magician
Go on ... spoil yourslef and get a 150x!!!!
Bought a TwinMOS Ultra-X
1Gb 66x
Everything OK, working just fine!
Cheers
using a toshiba 1 gb card. used a 512 mb by sandisk but discovered that i could only use 420 mb...not sure if this is a problem with the card itself or if this is a common thing. anyone experienced this? i know that that for all sd cards you can't really use the entire size description...example if your card is 1 gb you can only use 900-plus of it and not the entire 1gb. in my case my toshiba sd card allows me to go and use 993 mb which suits me just fine.
1GB sd card are becoming very cheap as the 2GB have come into the market.
Although, double the size does not yet mean double the price. 2GB are generally about 115% more than the 1GB.
I had my SanDisk 1GB for only about a month and sold it to get a 2GB.
I tried PQI 133x 2G, but failed. Now using Sandisk 2G without problem!
I'm using a Panasonic 1GB pro high speed (20 mb/s). No problems whatsoever.

Mini SD Card with Adaptor in Jam

Hi...I'm one of the ones that has suffered from 2gb cards not working in my Tmobile MDA Compact.
I'm likely to upgrade in the next 6 months to the Wizard and was going to buy a 1gb mini sd with adaptor.
Has anyone used these with the magician, and if so, do they all work or do I have to stick with sandisk ultra II's?
Yes, I have a 256mb mini sd card in my magician (with adapter) the phone doesn't see it any different.
Thanks Furby....anyone else had any problems...anyone used a 1gb mini sd in particular, and if so, which brand?
I am using a Sandisc 1 gb minisd on my magician, and it all works fine! Hopefully the 2gb minisd work also (heard theye where hispeed ones )
I'm using a generic 512MB card I bought originally for my C500.
min sd card
I am using a mini sd 1gb scan disk in my m500 and mda vario. No issues so far.
T-Mobile supplies a 256MB Mini-SD with their branded version of the HTC Magician, called the MDA Compact....
It works perfectly, although i find it strange they provided a Mini-SD rather then cheaper SD's.
Can't be T-mobile UK supplying the SD cards, as they never supplied one with any of the 6 we bought here at work!
neither have they supplied any Mini-SD's for the Varios that have been bought!
Using Apacer SD 1gig, minor problem sometimes could not detect the card. need to reinsert once a while.

wlan card with memory?

Hi!
Does anyone know if there is a wlan-card with some storagememory included that is compatible with the magician?
Been looking around but still no luck.
Look for Sandisk Wifi-SD-cards. I have one with 256mb storage. It works perfectly!

No, it is not works perfectly..... Works sometimes, and not always!
It is BAD, since the software/driver for Sandisk Wifi-SD card with 256mb storage is not support WM2003SE. It is only support WM2003 (without SE). Most of O2 XDA II mini is WM2003SE (IMO, there is old magician unit running on WM2003 (without SE)).
VERY BAD because Sandisk never and have never update the software/driver to support WM2003SE!!! I learn this when I asked their customer support about software/driver for WM2003SE, and they simply say "check this compatibility chart, WM2003SE is not supported!".
Shame on you Sandisk!!!
Regards,
Arto.
I had but after 4 months it gave out on me,
Sandisk told me it had to do with the memory on it,
I now have a new one without the memory and no problems till now.
But I am "glad" that more people having problems with it.(just so I know I aint the only one)
My advice buy a 1gig card and a normal WiFi.
GreetZ
Nick
I've had a Sandisk 256MB+WiFi card for 6 months and it has worked perfectly with my JAM - not given me a single problem.
