O2 Mini notification bubble display bug - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

It has taken me about a week and numerous hard resets to pinpoint the problem, and how to reproduce it.
It seems that the Mini notification bubble, which appears when there is more than one icon in the notification position in the title bar, displays a pop up bubble full of square boxes instead of individual notification icons, eg headset, missed calls or SMSes.
Here's how to reproduce it. You will need to have the following set up:
1. Have a .wmv video file on your SD.
2. Make sure your bluetooth headset is working fine with your Mini. You should see a headset icon on the title bar.
3. You need another phone (mobile, line phone doesn't matter as long as it has no caller non-display) to test this. Let's call it the control phone. Make sure you assign the control phone to a dummy contact, and assign a photo to the contact.
Here's how to test.
1. Open windows media player and play the .wmv file. Switch to full screen, switch back, and close the app.
2. Use the control phone to call your Mini. The photo should pop up. Hang up the control phone.
3. You should now see a notification bubble in the position formerly occupied by the headset icon. This is because there are now two notifications: headset and missed call.
4. Tap once on the bubble.
For me, I see a dialog box pop up for 1 second, with square boxes. A soft reset fixes things.
I realised that the same bug can be reproduced using BetaPlayer and an avi file.
Anyone else has encountered this?

I had the same problem with my Mini. The Bluetooth was on and the SMS sent notification came and the bubble popped up but after sometime the message sent notification envelope just would not go.

Yes, that happened to my friend who's using a Mini too. For him the text bubble or grey notification icon bar wouldn't go away, but for me it wouldn't stay.

if you're using an O2 Mini can you check on your storage and storage card thru the computer when you're syncing and see if there is a 0 kb file called "ignore_my_docs" on it?
Even after a HR I cant seem to get rid of it?!?

me toooo
same issue

Same problem here.... any help would be appreciated...
Same happens some times when I send a SMS: the bubble with the "message sent" notification doesn't disapear... I haven't find a way to reproduce this one...

Anyone facing the ignore_my_docs problem?

What problems would the ignore_my_docs file cause?
This zero-byte file is created if the Mini doesn't detect the "My Documents" folder when you first insert the freshly formatted SD. It simply tells applications that instead of scanning just the files and subfolders beneath "My Documents", it now has to scan the entire SD card.
You can delete the ignore_my_docs file, which I did, as I find applications take too long to display/scan files, eg in the Album application it will attempt to list all relevant files on your SD, instead of listing just files within the "My Documents" folder.

Thanks for the info Cheshirecat.
I was worried it was some sort of virus file since it doesnt show on the Magician but just shows if I access the storage or storage card folder on my phone when its connected thru the computer....and keeps coming back even if I delete it.
Thanks again.

Not sure if this problem is the similar to the one that shows up on the XDA 2 with the new O2 1.72.181 ROM or not... but that seemed to be caused by an old icon from O2 Active that had not been disabled properly in the new ROM. I had a constant notification bubble, even when nothing had been "missed", that showed the running application and the inactive O2 Active icon. Since I don't use O2 Active, I deleted the O2 Active application and that fixed the problem. I am not familiar with the O2 mini, or if it has O2 Active or not, but i thought I would mention it in case it helps :?

Chris

Same problem with notification

same for me

have also experienced the same problem. I uninstalled apps that put stuff on the task bar but the prob was not fixed so I did a hard reset and didn't install apps that affect the task bar anymore... I am thinking this maybe an OS issue.

In the end I did the same: hard reset it.
Now I am careful of what I install, and try to use the stock applications whenever possible. And backup before I install any system utility.
So far so good. 8)

same for me!
annoying prob :-(

Using my own text alert

The standard text alerts on the XDA 2 are dull and to quiet for me to hear, does anyone know how to change them to my own desired one?? i have managed to change ring tones.
Also can anyone recommend a good battery meter that is displayed on the screen like a normal phone that i can obtain??
Using my own text alert?
Contacted O2 and they have said:
To change the Text alert tone, you'll need the relevant 'WAV' file stored within the Windows directory (you can do this via File Explorer)
Once the WAV file is stored in the Windows directory, you should then be able to select the tone in the drop down for New SMS Message:
Start, Settings, Sounds & Notifications, Notifications, select the Event as 'Inbox: New SMS Message' - then underneath the drop down with the sound should then have the new WAV file. I did this for my XDA II and worked ok.
and also battery meter,
very small file that shows power in % in corner "Battery Monitor 2.0" www.pda.com (can also be found free on e-mule sites etc)
Good luck, they work fine on my XDA 2 and now I can sit back and relax
downloaded battery monitor
Any change of telling me how to set the memory function for the sd-card, as it says now no card?
And why is it not free :?:
Ok found it
Ok I found that problem of the storage card, but this free trail version works only for 10minute, and the you have to register it.
RUBBISH
Does anybody know the registration key
Plenty of free battery monitor software here:

Ghost sms problem on my xdaIIi

Hi, I'm having a a slight problem with my XDA2. After an accidental hard reset when I was changing my simcard, I restored it using activesync but now there's a rather annoying problem with the sms menu where there's one sms that I cannot delete. The annoying part is when that sms counts as unread and now the today screen constantly shows I have one unread message when in truth there's none. I tried moving the messages to another folder but now I have another undeletable sms in my drafts folder(and when i try to open these messages, a blank message comes up even though the content summary shows perfectly well on the message list screen). I also have one more corrupted message in my inbox that shows [no sender] and [no subject] which remains at the top of the list and cant even be opened. I try to open it, the messafe opening screen transition comes out but then nothing happens. I'm sorry if I may seem ranting on but this is my first pda and I'd rather not lose all the SMS i keep in my archive folder. Any help is appreciated. Oh, after reading some posts here to find a solution, no, I'm not using Sprite Backup or anything.
I have exactly the same problem except I have more ghost messages, I am using sprite backup though if that has any relevance...?
any ideas?
yeah i had the second problem with the sms u can't open on my xda II, but i had hundreds that i couldn't view or delete.
seemed the only way to fix it was to hard reset.. but u might try and get that pocket mechanic i think it is, where you can edit the system databases.. just a thought.
You may use dbView to directly delete these messages from WinCE database (make backup first).
Most probably this message is located somewhere in fldrXXXX data table.

Incoming SMS notification icon???

I have no idea where this icon comes from.
It appears every time I have an SMS in my TyTN, or a missed call. I have uninstalled all the plugins, it still sits there. When I press it it pops up a small window that shows the SMS without opening the Mail application of the TyTN.
All I want is to remove it from the today screen and stop making it appear. I have unchecked the "Display Message on Screen" notification... but this blue icon still appears...
Can anyone help me find out where it comes from? I have the WWE Greek HTC ROM...
Anyone? I did a search but nothing came up similar to this...
Could you have the scenarios application installed? from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277811&page=2&highlight=Scenarios_WWE
I had the version from post #12 installed first (scenarios_today_fix.rar )and I got the same SMS notification as in your screenshot.
I then tried the version from post #5 and the SMS notification was gone. Scenarios is a great app - thanks Asukal for making it available
You're great! Thank you, I installed the cab you mentioned and everything is ok
The only problem is that now the small icons from the profiles do not appear in the bottom screen...
I had the same problem until I did a soft reset .

Ringtone problem..

Hi,
I have a problem with my HTC P4350, if i receive a call i cant hear the ringtone, he's vibrating non-stopp..
It was so in WM5 also in WM6
the installed programs is TOMTOM and Chi-Tai Dang Batterystatus TD-Plugin.
Can annybody help me with my problem ?
could have something to do with your calendar appointments. i cant remember where the setting is, but there is one that automatically turns the phone to vibe whenever you have an appointment. Although using the volume bars on the side should overide it.
Do you have your ringtones stored on your storage card?
I have a T-mobile Wing (P4350) and from reading in these forums, it seems to be an HTC bug affecting various phones, where it seems the phone sometimes loses the storage card (which it seems is a problem which also leads to corrupted cards) ... anways, if your phone rings and the phone "can't find" the ringtone file, it simply just vibrates with no sound. This is the same type of issue, that happens when you have programs installed on your storage card that error when the phone is turned on, and the storage card driver hasn't loaded yet.
I suggest placing the ringtones you use on the device memory .. and that may solve your problem... that way the ringtones are there and the device doesn't have to look for them when it rings.
I also had a problem, where I was using SPB mobile shell/phone suite and there is an icon on the today screen, which sets up ringing profiles .. and sometimes, due to a bug or something, the settings on my phone would be changed. Try going into your sounds and notifications and seeing if for some reason it's set to no sound, but vibrate only or something like that.
My uncle has the same phone, but he had no problem with the ringtone.. and i use the standart ringtone in the HTC
and he vibrate non-stop thats not normal..
If i do the hard reset, he is normal.. after a time prevent the same problem..
Similar Problem
I have lost the abilaty to use MP3 Ringtones. The stock tones work just fine but I can't use my own MP3 ringtones. I had them Installed Storage Card/My Documents/My Ringtones. This was working fine then they just stopped working. I moved them to
My Devise/Windows/Rings. This still did not help. I can see the Ringtones when I edit contacts and I can choose the tones but they do not do the standard "Test Play" like the stock ones do. Any insight would be great.

Message notification problem.

Hi Folks,
This is a small, seemingly insignificant problem but it's bloody annoying so I'm hoping you can help me solve it:
When I receive a new message (SMS, MMS, Email) the little message shortcut on the desktop get's the little green '1' overlaid to show there's a message. Once I read the message and reply it doesn't disappear. I can open the message in Chomp or the system default app and it doesn't seem to register with the shortcut - it still shows the overlaid green number.
I know this is something of a trifling problem but I have my phone on silent a lot so it does cause some confusion.
Thanks in advance.
i've noticed mine staying on for a while but then disappearing... maybe it sits there for another 10/15 minutes?
Could be. I have to admit that afer about 10 minutes I've been losing patience and deleting the message, which makes it go away.
do u read ur messages through the widget page? cause i noticed that if u do, then the little green ball remains but somehow if u click on the message icon with the green ball to access ur acc and read from there, then it goes away.
I think that may be a factor, yeah. When I read them through the 'drag down' menu, either with chomp or system default it stays, I'll open the next one through the icon and see if that changes things.
I find that the trackball keeps flashing too unless you actually tap on the Messages shortcut icon to read the new messages that come through (as oppose to viewing from the notifications menu or through the text messages widget). I hope HTC fix this issue 'cos not everyone wants to go through the messages app via the Messages shortcut icon.
Yeah, I only used the messaging icon yesterday and it was fine. The problem seems limited to when you use the 'drag-down- menu.
