Different between 2003 2nd edit & 2003 edit - Phone edit - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Who can really tell me the different between Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition Software and Windows Mobile 2003 Edition Software - Phone edition. (Technically)
Because recently i saw the spec for the coming xda lls and xda lli, they are using the latest Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition Software.
My friend who is using Ipaq 6300 series - Phone edition, in the brochure they did mention this phone is come with Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition Software but what i see is actually the same as the window mobile 2003 first edition.

The main feature of WMSE is ScreenRotationService - which allows you to rotate your screen to any angle. The other changes are minor and very subjective (stability improvement, speedup and etc)

Pocket PC Edition 2003

Will I be able to upgrade XDA's 2002 Version to 2003 when it's released in the next months ? :?:
No, at least not likely. Rumour has it that the new OS requires more than 32Mb of ROM. That is why the iPaq 3970 and 5450 (and a few others) carry 48Mb ROM.
Would we not be able to do a limited upgrade AKA the 3630 ipaq upgrade to 2002 and maybe add a few apps into ram ??
I hope so.
maybe also we can increase ROM size? does hardware supports this? As I know, RAM upgradeable on all MDAs/XDAs to 64Mb (and maybe more? I seen info but don't know how)
So if we'll got 48 or 64 of flash rom we can upgrade. But what 2003 system is will be? Can you give some infos about it?
Pocket PC 2003, codename Ozone, will primarily be a bug-fix release for Pocket PC 2002 with few enhancements. Users should not expect big changes.
Well i agree you may not notice many deffrence or changes but i was assured from people at Microsoft that majore changes within the OS will take place. I am not sure if they will ever be able the fix the bugs GOD knows each day we discover tonnes...
Anyways we should wait and see
Why wouldn't it be possible to upgrade?
The amount of build-in ROM shouldnt be that much of a problem. Since PPC 2003 PE mainly features bugfixes that total size of the OS shouldn't have increased that much. Else it would be possible to install some application is RAM like they did for the iPAQ 36xx.
The only real reason I can think of is the lack of support from O2 and the other telco's that sell these devices.
Keep hoping!
Kamil
I think it is very possible to see XDA can upgrade to PPC 2003 phone edition, however the upgrade may not be free. I look forword to upgrade my T-Mobile MDA with a PPC 2003 O2 English ROM  .

More About Pocket PC 2003
Microsoft recently gave developers an overview of the next version of its Pocket PC operating system. Codename Ozone, this will primarily be a bug-fix release for Pocket PC 2002 with a few enhancements.
Developers will have access to new tools to allow them to build applications that take fuller advantage of the XScale processors found in most of today's handhelds. However, these applications will not run under Pocket PC 2002. Of course, the reverse is not true, as Pocket PC 2003 will retain backward compatibility.
Microsoft has decided to postpone adding other new features, such as voiced control, until a .NET version of Pocket PC is completed -- expected in two to three years.
it will be possible to upgrade the 3870 too ...and it has the same amount of rom ...if i'm not wrong ...
Er... according to Microsoft sources, pocket PC 2003 phone edition runs on Windows CE 4.2 - this is more than a bug fix release!
2003
does anyone have a copy of the BETA version floating around?
IT works fine
I have hacked to HTC phone, parts are SX56 and parts are XDA, but I am running 2003 fine on it right now. There seems to be all sorts of little things, and some of the skins are much prettier, but other than that I don't notice anything huge.
Yeah, I am running Palm OS 6 in my reconstruted XDA with 256M ram and Amd Opteron processor too. It is extermely fast, as fast as my Desktop computer.
hehe

Sorry, my BT-Desktop´s Battery was empty
YESSSS!!!
xda with PocketPC2003 is a reality! At least one such device was received by local pda-related software company for review. I have no details about current devices upgrade availability, though.
The only fact is: PocketPC2003 for xda exists and should be pre-installed to new devices after OS will be presented by Microsoft.
I have it on good authority that it is feasible to put PC2003 onto Xda, however this will only happen for evaluation purposes and is unlikely to be available as a general upgrade.

anybody using Epocrates on XDA II / i-mate?

Anyone using Epocrates successfully on the XDA II/ imate?
After a fairly routine installation, the the autoupdate feature of Epocrates Pro for Pocket PC freezes up in my PC and the drug databases are not installed. My PC platform is Windows Me and the imate has the preinstalled "Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone edition Version 4.20.1081 (build 13100)".
Any suggestions are welcome..
Still not able to get it to work. Epocrates customer support has offered a few simple solutions like resetting and reinstalling - none of which have worked so far.
Is there a real difference between the "Windows Mobile Phone edition" which comes preinstalled on the XDA2 versus the "Pocket PC 2003" since I wonder that is why it wont work on the XDA2?
Epocrates worked finally after upgrading to the new ROM from clubimate
ROM version - 1.52.00WWE
ROM date - 10/23/03
Epocrates support staff have been very good through all this and did refund me the purchase when it did not work with the original ROM

Visual Studio.NET 2003 - Developing for XDA II (screen size)

Hi,
I am in the process of converting some of my Pocket PC 2002 apps to Pocket PC 2003 and I noticed the applications appear in the wrong place for the XDA II.
I have worked out the XDA II screen is a different size to my Dell Axim device, does anyone know what the exact screen size is (in pixels) for the XDA II please?
*I recommend Visual Stdio.NET 2003 to anyone who is thinking of developing applications for the XDA II device, VS.NET 2003 is very easy to use and you can have an application up and running within an hour*
Cheers,
Taz
and better yet with 2005 which is still beta
you can also program to the pda's without
.net if you dont want to something which you
need eMbedded visual studio to do today

Development for O2 Xda Orbit

Hello,
I want to develop a GPS application for the for O2 Xda orbit with Visual Studio 2005 and C#, but unfortunately I am not sure what kind of category this device belongs to. It could be a smartphone, but also a pocket pc with phone functionality.
Which device from the Windows Mobile 6 SDK is most suitable to emulate the Xda Orbit?
Thanks in advance!
If you want to develop with c# .NET you have to select Visual C# -> Mobile Device -> Windows CE 5.0 or higher
in my Visual Studio i can choose between Pocket PC 2003, Smartphone 2003 and Windows CE 5.0
but if you have updated your XDA with Windows Mobile 6 you can download the SDK of Windows Mobile 6 from Microsoft.. so you can exactly develop for 6.0 Platform

[ASK] can Microsoft Office mobile 6.1 running on 6965?

hi guys,
i recently got an ipaq hw6965. but i do have installer of Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1 for my ipaq 912.
the thing is, i like better using 69xx because its size is bigger from 91x, but i do using word mobile quite often and all of my document i'm working on is *.docx/*.xlsx which is office mobile 5 does not have capabilities to read or edit the file.
i tried to installed the office 6.1, at first there is no problem on installing progress, after a soft reset, the office mobile 5 is no longer available, but when i click on word mobile there was no responses at all, i also cannot run other office mobile application (excel and powerpoint) but i can run smoothly microsoft onenote mobile which came from office mobile 6.1 package.
so my question are, can i remove (uninstall) mobile office 5? how?
