Tom Tom 3 Bluetooth - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi Guy's
I'm getting a "GPS Disabled" on the fron screen when TOmTom3 loads, any ideas.
THX

If you have no GPS hardware connected, it's normal .

The case is probably what the text says: GPS disbled.
Solution: run TomTom Wizard or TomTom GPS.
In TomTom GPS select correct port (probably COM5 OR Bluetooth GPS) and type (try NMEA ....Bluetooth)

What GPS do you have and have you configured TomTom to use it in the GPS Applet?

These are my settings on a QTEC 2020 (XDA2 clone) running Pocket PC 2003 Windows Mobile edition,
I have TomTom 3.03 Navigator and the TomTom bluetooth reciever.
The below presumes you have already Bonded the Bluetooth reciever, and your PDA mode is set to Discoverable before you start.
(See below for instructions if in doubt **)
Goto TomTom GPS (Start, Settings, System, GPS), click the GPS tab and the top box should read "TomTom Navigator GPS",
and the second box should read "Bluetooth GPS". Make sure you you click the box next to these settings to complete, a tick is added.
Please note your TomTom reciever must be swithched on prior to doing this.
To check completion after this click on the Satus box and you should see some activity and sats recieved!
**To bond your Bluetooth reciever with your PDA.
See http://support-uk.tomtom.com/cgibin...290aCZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPTMmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=
Hope this sorts you out..

Tried the wizard and now it works, I was using it on another XDA 2 and was concerned that it was only restricted to that device after the intial use.
Thx Chaps

Glad to be of help ,

Bluetooth Holux GR230/Tomtom 3

Why is it that the Holux driver does not appear in the Tomtom list of available drivers. Can't seem to install anything from the CD driver supplied with the GPS receiver. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
I got this from the tomtom website and posted it here a few weeks ago.
If you are thinking of buying TOMTOM 3 please read this from the TOMTOM website.
Compatibility
- Not compatible with Holux GPS Receiver
- Not compatible with Integral Compact Flash Cards
- Not compatible with CF Type II cards (Microdrives)
- Not compatible with TomTom II Maps
I got mine working with tomtom 2 by downloading bluetooth tools patch but havent tried it with tomtom 3.
I decided to give it a try. if you have the gps already bonded make sure you delete the bonding first. Download and install the latest bluetooth tools from here
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
Set bluetooth to discoverable mode, choose "new", it will find the gps, enter code, mine is 6268, when you ok it, bluetooth tools should pop up, I chose serial/com4. Once complete, make sure bluetooth mode is "on".
Go to tomtom, choose "gps", go to the lower box where you should now see your holux gps listed, choose this then tick the large box on the left. You should now have a working tomtom3 system despite what it says on the tomtom website about it not working.

howdy.
ive got myself a holux gr230 which of course isnt listed as a supported device, but once bonded its visible in the lower box, but it wont connect. what should i select in the upper box?
im also having probs with tomtom activation. it says its activated, but when i try to go into uk maps it just says that "this activation code is not valid for Great_Britain" but the majour roads of europe version seems to work fine. ne ideas?
Cheers.

I am using the DCONNEX DC-230 BT GPS, which is in fact a rebadged Holux GR-230.
Flawlessly.
I use Rom 1,72 with native BT stack.
Just bond the GPS, say YES to questions on assigning a COM port
In TomTom select NMEA Bluetooth and COM5
Only issue is that TomTom alsmost hangs the MDAII when it cant find the GPS (ie. GPS off, BT off, GPS out of reach).
Still looking for a solution for that . . .
I have the same problem that TOMTOM hangs. This is very annonying as sometimes I would like to check the Map in TomTOm without having my Holux Mouse with me. I then have to use TomTom Wizard to uncheck the little box in gps setting and then change to simulator :?
Before I was using BluetoothTools and TomTOm worked also fine without a GPS Mouse for a Map, but Bluetooth Tools introduced a considerable lag (looking for bluetooth headset) of the XDA when taking a call, this was also very annoying as I use the XDA2 primarily as a phone, and the phone has to work perfect ....
Greetz
WELL I'M USING 1.60 ROM ON MY XDA 2, BT TOOLS, AND I BONDED ON COM 4...BUT ALL TOMTOM 3 SHOWS IN LOWER BOX IS:
COM 2,9bt ON COM 6, AND bt GPS.....
NOTHING OF THEM WORK...
PLEASE HELP ME...
@RDKAY:
Great to hear I am not the only one suffering from the TomTom hanging without GPS connected.
BTW: What ROM are you using?
I put bluetooth in discoverable mode, it finds the holux gps, it asks "do you want this device as a serial device" answer yes. Switch bluetooth to on, in tomtom, the top box reads tomtom wireless gps, the bottom box reads com 5, it works perfectly.
Im sure you all have latest opdate from tt..or? had the same problem activating major roads, opdate solved this problem..why use wizard changing gps? uncheck recieve all incoming beams in connections, go to programs/tomtom gps change gps to any serial gps..(not uncheking gives an error message: can not open com 1: port does not exits. rom 1.66.00).

@edsub
I am using the Imate 1.72 Rom on my T-mobile mda2... don't think it is a rom issue although...

I think it might be true that updating TT would do things better but:
I have bought TT with maps for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. And I just needed a Spain Map also which you cannot buy individually (TT just told me to buy also the Westeuropean package... ) so I got the Spain Map from Emule.
Now when I do the TT update the Spain map doesn't work anymore, so I cannot do the update....
.why use wizard changing gps?

Because with opening directly TT Gps its hanging my mda2 completly, I have desactived incoming beams although
But anyway phone and TomTom work fine more or less, so "never change a running system"

Its looking more and more towards a rom issue.

XDA 2, New 1.6 ROM, Fortuna BT GPS, Tom Tom - Please help

I have never been able to get Tom Tom GPS on my XDA2 to communicate with a Fortuna Clip ON BT GPS. I thought upgrading to the new XDA2 1.6 ROM might help - not so far.
Clipon BT GPS is paired and via BT tools is set up as Serial Port profile on COM7.
In Tom Tom, I'm not sure what to select, I've tried "SiRF Bluetooth", "SiRF 38400", "TomTom Wireless GPS". On the other selection if I select "Bluetooth GPS" or "ClipOn-BTGPS on COM7" these appear to work as the blue LED on the Clipon GPS flashes fast. I have only once seen the Tom Tom screen show any satelites and don't know why it worked, every other time I try the Tom Tom screen does nothing.
I have tried ST mode out in the back garden after waiting till light turns green when sats found. Also tried XT mode, although LED stays orange.
Please someone point me in the right direction - this is doing my head in!!!
Did you delete your paired devices from the xda2 before installing bluetooth tools? In my experience you have to do this to make it work properly. Once you have bluetooth tools installed you can then enter discoverable mode and repair your gps, my gps shows up as com4. In the tomtom gps you choose the gps from the lower drop down box which will show your fortuna device.
Thanks for the reply. The XDA2 had been cold reset so all pairings were gone from before.
Somehow it is working now. I have "TomTom Wireless GPS" and "Bluetooth GPS" selecting in drop down lists and seems to be working fine now.

Explain to me how you get Fortuna to show up in the dropdown list of GPS receivers - I'm now using TT3 as an upgrade from TT2, and it STILL doesn't show Fortuna? You have to use a SiRF 38400 according to their manual.
BTW, thanks a lot for the info - I had exactly the same problem and it sorted it out. Up till now I've just been sending the BTGPS unit back for replacement ..
If you use BT tools and set the fortuna up with a serial port connection. (mine defaults to COM7) It then appears in the lower drop down list on TT3 GPS settings.
However mine is set to "Bluetooth GPS" and it works perfect.

TOMTOM ACTIVATE HELP??

HI
i am new to this plaise help
i got SPV M1000 witch i install TOMTOM 4.00
the problem is when i click on tomtom navigator
i get this massage: gps position unreliable
plaise tell me STEP BY STEP how do ACTIVATE GPRS
coz i am new to this
tnx
Nice and easy....
Launch TT, goto config, goto GPS
If you have a little circle at the top right spinning then it's connected to your GPS device, however if you get a popup asking you to pair it, then do the following
Search in BT, you should find the GPS device, pair to it (dont use a code if asked)
Tick the allways connect to this device tick box, ok all the way out and TT should now be talking to the device
It will take a while to initially pick up satelites, you should see some grey bars and numbers in the GPS window inside TT.... Also make sure your outside
Hi King2,
are you getting GPS and GPRS confused?
you don't mention a GPS unit in your post (but you do mention GPRS)-- do you have one? TT is useless without.
the GPS unit (usually cabled/bluetooth) is basically a satellite receiver which TT uses to locate your position.
Hi,
GPS Position Unreliable means that the GPS Module not found any satelites.
When you don't have the module you don't get this message.
Then TomTom says GPS module not found.
I takes about a minute or so to conect to a satelite.
But you must be in a open space otherwise the module can't connect.
When you are between buildings the connection is difficult.
Hope this helps

Port Problem
Hi King2,
Did you paired the phone and the BT GPS?
It is where you put the BT on
Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / Devices / New
If you did there was a question about a bluetooth serial port connection.
You must answer yes or no. Use yes
If you tick yes, WM2003SE creates a BT Serial port.
I think in the text it also says what port was created. (i saw in a flash that is was BT Serial Port 5
In TomTom got to GPS and take BT Serial on Com 5
Uncheck the port 4.
I din't change the settings and when i just looked in the BT Settings only the Outbound Com port: 5 is checked and 4 is not
I hope this helps

GPS+ TomTom5 problems with new Blutooth Stack

When I first tried installing this stack (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532 ) my exisiting bluetooth devices - a Jabra BT200 headset and Ambeon GPS both worked, just like that - without re-pairing, the latter with TomTom3.
However, in order to make stereo over A2DP to work I had to hard-reset and reinstall everything. Glad to say A2DP did work! However took opportunity to upgrade from TomTom3 to TomTom5.
Now I've re-paired with the GPS using the new stack, during which it asks if I want ti install a serial port. But it doesn't seem to be recognised by TomTom. And, if I go to the COM tab, and try and add a new port there is nothing in the drop down.
Any ideas?
The BT outgoing port on my magician is fixed at Com5. Maybe because I am using GPS Gate (a program to create virtual Com port so that U can open 2 or more GPS program at the same time), I don't have any problem before and after installing that BT stack.
Maybe U can try GPS Gate too. Just open Com5 in GPS gate and create an virtual port Com6. Then ask TT to connection to Com6.
Thanks but it's all OK
I used this great little free program
http://www.teletype.com/downloads/tty.zip
to test whether the GPS box was actually connected (but not recognised by TomTom) and it was - on COM5!
So I pocked around with TomTom some more, and found that it could pick up a signal on COM5 but if a signal was not there it reported that 'No GPS device' rather than 'No valid GPS signal.'
upgrade tomtom 5 to tomtom 5.1
GideonS, did you get BT outgoing port to show up? If so, how? Like you, when I try to select one, it comes up with a blank selector box.
(Maybe I missed something in the thread, but the GPS Gate surely relies on diverting an existing port?)
thanks in advance!

XDA11s problem with TomTom, BT and GPS reciever

Hi Good Peoples,
My first post here and I hope you will excuse my ignorance please. I am hoping that someone can help me, as I would pull my hair out, if I had the left.
I have an XDA 11s and I have installed TomTom software. The satellite receiver is a Haicom HI-701 BT (four in one Bluetooth) and I have a number of problems.
When I installed the GPS hardware, in the Bluetooth Services section I installed it as a serial port connection and have the enable service box ticked. Do I need any other boxes here ticked?
The Bluetooth Manager shows the Haicom shortcuts, but it does not connect on start-up. It has to be manually connected. Once it is connected, unfortunately it shows no dataflow, in either direction. I think that is the second problem.
The Bluetooth flashing light shows that the Bluetooth connection has not been made; what do I need to do to fix that?
When I start the TomTom, it shows that I have no GPS Device (now there is a surprise) and I tried to configure it using the NMEA option with 4800 baud rate. However I then have eight options ranging from infrared through to Bluetooth serial to choose from, and I'm not sure which one I should be using. I mucked around for hours and had working for about one minute, but unfortunately I can not repeat the trick.
Is there anyone out there who could be kind enough to please tell me how to configure the thing please?
XDA IIs
The XDAIIs is a BlueAngel - try posting in the correct forum next time.
Make sure that you have selected the "outgoing connection" - not the "incoming connection" when choosing the serial port in TT.
Also turn on BT and manually connect to the GPS first - somethimes I had to do that rather than rely on TT to do it for me.
You asked whether other boxes sould be ticked - what are these - I no longer have a BA and can't remember...
Charlie Grillo
oops sorry, I was not sure which forum to post it under as the BlueAngel did not specify IIs, although the picture looked like a better match.
I hate to sound like a total technical cretin but what is TT?
The other boxes are:
Authorisation requires
Authentication (Passkey) Required
Encryption required.
Thanks for the response.
TT = TomTom
I have found a fix for my XDA2 with Tom Tom and GPS BT-321 H
This was such a headache for me but through persistance - I got it working
This is how I did it
1. I downloaded - Bluetooth tool 1100 "BTHTools1100"
this help me to asisgn my Holox BT-321 to my XDA2 via bluetooth to port Com7
2. I then downloaded "GPSTuner_v5" & GPSmonitor1.1
These programes enable me to talk to my GPS and adjust PORT COM setting and also Band rate
having got these programes to work and pair with my GPS
the next step with TOM TOM6 worked fine trying different ports
All the Best to all XDA fans out there!!!
