Receiving a call when unit is cradled - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Both my colleague and I use XDA2s and we work in the same office. Today, both of us have had incoming calls, while the unit is in its cradle. I took mine out of the cradle, checked who was calling and hit the green button. The call was answered (according to the display) but I could hear nothing. My colleague had exactly the same happen to him, from a different caller. Has anyone else had this, or is there a technique to answering a call when the XDA is in its cradle?

Hello,
I have had no problem answering calls from within the cradle -
I did exactly as you said - picked up the device from the cradle, but I pressed the "answer" button on the screen, all works fine for me.
Cheers

I have answered lots of times the same way with no problems, I've even put the unit on speakerphone... Very handy when cradled...

Did you use a headset before?
The following happend for me once:
I use the headset for listening music. Phone is ringing. I unplug the headset, because I have a poor quality Hama one, and in a loudy bus, the internal speaker of the PDA is better.
But I hear nothing. The only way to take a phone call, with the headset.
I think the PDA's headset connector switch was wrong. After I plug and unplug the headset many times, my wallaby worked. (The PDA felt the headset plugged, so switch off the speaker but the headset wasn't pluged. Soft reset did not help)
This is my story

There is a setting, to automatically switch on speakerphone when PDA in the cardle?

Thanks!
Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. Neither of us had used headphones, but we both have BT headsets, which we had used that morning - one's a Jabra BT200 and the other is a Bluetrek G2. I don't know whether that is relevant or not.
If anyone out there uses a BT headset and can tell me how they select a number from contacts and ring it so that the headset works - I'd like to know! Mine only seems to work if initiate the call from the headset.

(off topic, sorry) is there any way of getting the phone to answer calls/dial calls in hands free mode? or creating a profile that does so (ie when i am in car and xda is in a (non handsfree) cradle.

I do not know if this feature is availble. I did a little search on my imate but did not find such a feature! but will be nice to have it!
The only option available is to asnwer received calls after certain rings!

it would be worth cheching how old the rom version is on your xda2 as there is an issue with the very early versions of the rom (1.03.00) for example. In this version nither the cell line or the gprs cant be connected while the XDA2 is in its cradle. current version should be 1.60.00.
hope this helps

Phone autoresponse and bt headset

Hi,
I need to automatically pickup on calls. However this doesn't work if a bluetooth headset is attached: I have to use the headset button.
Moreover, if I answer tapping on screen, bt headset deactivates!
If I`m not wrong U have this option in Start/Settings/Phone...and then click on More there U have to check the box saying:
Answer incoming call withouth pressing
And then U have to chose how many times do U want your device to ring before answering...
Hope it will help!
Regards,
Primoz
P.s. If I`m not wrong...U have to chose a short ringtone for this...!
I have already done this, but the phone doesn't answer itself. I choose classic.wav ringtone....
Update
I found autoanswer is not working at all :-(
Anybody issued this problem?
unfortunately, I have the same problem.
The auto answer function was only ever designed for the standard wired headset. It won't work for bluetooth headsets or speakerphone.

may be is some additional software to fix the problem with autoanswering? It is very big problem for me! because I use BT headset when I'm skiing with helmet on my head.

Yeah, the same with me. I used to use my NOKIA 6230 + jabra250. Jabra suites nicely under my Arai hemlet and I can ride my motorcycle and answer phone calls.
Any ideas what should be done?

Help with Bluetooth Headset!!

Sorry if you have already read this but I am still having a problem!!
I got the new Bluetake iphone mini stereo headphones for christmas and was hoping to use them with my MDA Pro (running the new O2 ROM).
I have them paired as a "Hands Free" device...
I know that I can't use the stereo features until the new A2DP patch come out (hopefully soon!), however what I want to be able to do is use voice command to initiate calls etc. However when I press the call/power or Play/Pause button all I hear is a beep from the headset and nothing hapens on the PDA...
However I can use the button to answer and hangup a call (as long as I answered it with the handset...) If I initiate the call on the MDA then I can't hangup with the headset...
Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like something is faulty??
Any advice?
Thanks
Andy.
I actually had an oportunity to try out the voice levels and sound is awful! I also tried to connect it to my SE T610 and it refused and it did the same when I tried to connect it to my Toshiba M200 tablet PC as in both cases it never asked for the passkey...
I am begining to think that they must be faulty??
But becuase I have never had a BT headset before so I'm not sure if I am doing something stupid!
Andy
I have managed to try a SE BT headset with my MDA Pro and it did work and activate voice command. So it would seem that the headset is faulty. Does anyone have any ideas before I send it back?
Andy
Please!! Is there anyone here who can comment on whether they think these are broken or if I am just incompetent!
If they are broken then I need to send them back really soon...
FWIW, my Jabra BT330 and the SE HBH-662 just need a single quick click to activate the voice dial, but these Plantronics Pulsar 590A things I just got (which are fandabidosi by the way!) need a prolonged press to do the same.
Have you tried keeping your finger on the button for a while?
Ferg.

Just looked at the instructions for the bluetake i-phone (bt450rx),
(got them myself for xmas)
and it does not say that you can connect to the phone for voice control,
however you should be able to hang up from the headset.
i have got the k-jam (wizard) and can dial from the k-jam and hangup from the headset.
voice control may not be available because the new bluetooth stereo headset's are ready for AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile).
the older bluetake headset bt420rx can be used for voice control but do not have AVRCP function.
I hope i am wrong, but it may be the answer you have not been looking for.
Hmm... That sounds bad...
I only have a few days left to return it and don't know whether to get a replacement or to go for a different headset?
i like the idea of being able to play/pause/f-foward/rewind via the headset(when bt v2 upgrade is available), because music playback is more important to me than voice dial.
of course if you can send it back, then perhaps just wait until bt v2 is available, and then buy a headset for the uses you require it for.(wish there was an emotion with cross eyes) LOL
I know what you mean but I would still be able to use voice command!!
Does anyone else have the 450Rx and a universal and could test it for me?
if you do prove me wrong (and i hope you do) please let me know.
answering this problem further,
the bluetake i-phono mini headset cannot be used for voice command,
however the motorola ht820 can be used for voice control.
Had similar issues with my headset (not the same type). In the end, I had enable secure mode on the universal, pair the devices, select serial port and then immediately initiate the voice dial, otherwise it didn't work.
Gareth
I decided to play it safe and returned it back to Expansys for a refund. When someone else gets a set of stereo headphones and A2DP is out... and crucially they can confirm it works! Then I'll buy a new one!
Cheers
Andy
one good thing with motorola ht820 is that they can be used with a detatchable cable, so whilst i'm using them bluetooth for the phone side, i can still hear good quality music.
also i know from trying them with my wife's qtek s110 that you can control windows media player as well.
you may have already tried this, but just in case you haven't,
install and run the three files for either "bt off", "bt on", or "bt toggle",
this will switch all audio to the bt headset or away,
of course quality is not good, but at least no cables.
ps. if the headset is switch off and you put bt on, you will get an on screen error message.

Do they come with this cable as standard?
EDIT: Did a search, and they do.... might just buy them now and sell my Sony EX-71's.... would they we at least the same in terms of sound quality? It's the thing people talk about least with these devices!
So lemme see if I got this right.... even before I get A2DP installed on my Exec, I can listen to perfect music using the cable, and also use the hphones as a bluetooth headset as well? Will the music still pause etc when a call comes in?
Just bought a pair of HT820's on Ebay there.... £38, not too bad. Should get about £25-30 for two pairs of existing headphones, so well please.

Bluetooth Handsfree problem: answering from the handset

HI all,
I got a t-mobile Vario II and have a plantronics 655 handsfree. I have searched the forum but found nothing that answers my problem.
I want to be able to answer a call from the phone and when the handsfree is paired the sound to come through the handsfree. I have tried a few handsfree kits but none seem to work and all the calls come through the phone until i pull the handsfree out of my ear hit answer n put it back in. Am i missing something? I want to be able to answer a call from the phone and talk through my handsfree. When i make a phone call however from the phone it works fine and the sound comes through the handsfree like it should.
I read something about a handsfree profile...where is that? i don't have a handsfree profile option on my phone. Is it an add-on. I tried the handsfree with my ericsson phone and when u answer from the phone it asks if i want the audio through the handset or the handsfree..
hellpppppp...its driving me madd lol
I Take it no one knows the answer to this or has created a patch? Does everyone answer there phone from the answer button on the bluetooth handsfree then? ??
What you are trying to do, is contrary to the feature designed into your dialer. When you answer the phone call from the phone instead of the connected headset, you obviously wanted to talk via the phone not the headset so that is where it routes the call. You can get it back to the headset after you answered on your phone by selecting the menu option and selecting "Turn Handsfree On".
similar issue
I have an ATT branded 8525, and a Motorola H550.
I'm using the built in voice dialer, as I really don't feel like shelling out any more money for voice commander, when I'm paying for the spb products I have (pocketplus, mobile shell, and phone suite).
With other phones, I could use the phone (by hand) to dial a number, while wearing the BT headset, and it would automatically put the conversation on the phone.
This doesn't.
Also, when I receive a call, I don't get the ringtones I have selected for specific callers, just a generic beep.
Morgan
That issue is actually unrelated. The issue that arnie_ahu has is trying to do something differently than the phone design. However, your issue is a real issue. Dialing on the phone and pressing call should send the call to the headset if it is connected properly. The ony conclusion I can think of is that it is not connected properly as a headset.
In my experience, this is Bluetooth device specific. When I use my Jawbone, I can answer on the phone and the conversation will be on the Jawbone. However, if I use a Plantronics 320 and answer on the phone, the conversation will be on the phone.
The reason why I answer using the phone instead of using the Bluetooth headset is out of courtesy to the caller. For some reason, when I answer with a Bluetooth device, the caller hears a very loud sound that is reminiscent of a fog horn. I have experienced this with multiple phones and headsets. I am guessing this is related to the Bluetooth handshake.
edited: spelling correction.
It may be (for me) because I am using mp3 ringtones on a mono earpiece.
From what I have found on line, that won't work with WM5, which sucks, because it worked on my old piece of crap nokia 6230.
Why oh why must this be so hard?
Now I have to try and convert the mp3 ringtones I made from full songs to something the phone will use.

TyTN II and the Jabra 320s Stereo BT Headset

Well, just got my TyTN II. For me it is worth the upgrade from the TyTN.
I have only one issue. My Jabra 320s headset is about 30% lower in recieving volume than it is on my TyTN I. On the original TyTN, the volume was just about right, any lower and it wouldn't be usable, but now that I am running it on the TyTN II it is un-usable at such a low volume.
My question is this?
Is this issue fixable through software/registry etc...
And does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
JB
That's the big question, low BT headset volume when calling is a consistant issue with most headsets on Kaiser vs Hermes. Time to email HTC support, it's a bug.
lol no problems here. Using Plantronics Voyager 510SL.
Even if it's a bug with the Kaiser, (Probably software) we won't see any fix from HTC anytime soon. That's why I am asking the pros over here at XDA if there is a software/config workaround/fix that can be implemented.

ditto... while i'm not using the 510SL, i am using the 510 and it's quite loud with my Kaiser..
I found my problem and fixed it...
Ok, I'm an idiot... I fixed my bt headset issue with low recieving volume. Through my haste to try and fix the volume issue, I missed one key setting... I forgot to click on the small speaker icon on the top right of the screen and push the volume sliders to max.... Apparently, I only tried to use the jog wheel alone to raise volume and that works, but seems to work seperately from the volume icon levels.
So for me... I have the same volume levels I had as before with the TyTN I.
JB
I have another problem with this headset, I don't get the "stereo" service. The only thing my kaiser recognises is the "handsfree" service.
Does somebody now how I can make it work?

Sorry, this raises the volume in the BT headset for all "system" sounds like voice dial confirmation talkback to the headset, but the in-call volume remains lower than Hermes once you are connected, the slider has no effect. To be clear, if you adjust the slider while NO call is in progress, the volume in the headset will be affected, but after connection the sound volume remains low, no matter how you left the slider from before.

Yes.. I had the same problem...
This may sound rediculous on how I fixed it, but it worked.
I paired my laptop and the Headset and then tried to listen to stereo music, and also paired the phone with the laptop and then it would pair correctly with the Jabra bt320s.
It seems to me that the kaiser has a few BT bugs that need to be worked out, and that different pairings will change either reg settings or configs that arent available to the UI...

You are correct and I am still having low BT call volume, but at the time I was having low BT stereo volume as well. The sliders fixed the stereo problem, but didn't fix the BT call volume.
I haven't tried the fix yet, but I believe someone claims to have fixed the BT call volume with a cooked rom or a modified rom...
I'm not worried that we will have this fixed sometime soon.

I am using my Motorola HT820 BT headset without any issues since day one. I simply paired them, and made sure Stereo Headset was selected in the bluetooth options, and they just work. Volume and Track changes from the headset also work great. One thing I never liked about the HT820 was it's range, just about 20 ft. I used to have it paired with my laptop, but no longer since I have 4G of music on my phone....
how long does the kaiser battery last listening mp3 throught bluetooth headset?, anybody tried it?
will it drain battery MUCH faster than using included headset?

Strange problem with handsfree mode
Hi guys,
I have just purchased the Jabra 320s and was happy with the stereo quality and apart from the low volume issue on handsfree calls were handled quite well through the device.
Once, When the phone rang, it was answered by my wife using the phone answer key instead of the Jabra's answer button and since then I cannot answer calls through the Jabra. I have tried the options on the Kaiser whilst on a call to have the call transfered to handsfree but that also does not work, I have tried resetting and re-paring both devices and it still does not work for calls on handsfree (once paired, I have the handsfree option and stereo selected). The stereo is however working fine without any problems when playing mp3's.
Any ideas?

Bluetooth headset / answering calls

Hi,
So when you have a Bluetooth headset connected it's a fair expectation for calls (audio) to be routed through to it, right?
When making a call this happens as per expect.
However if you ANSWER a call via the handset itself (hard button or slider) then the call is kept local to the handset, it's only if you answer the call via your button on your Bluetooth headset that the call is routed to there.
Now you can once in the call select the "Handsfree On" from the menu to transfer it to the headset once you've realised your mistake, but surely this is a bit of a pain.. no?
I for one will most of the time physically pick up the handset and take a look who is calling before answering it (unless driving etc), so would like to just press the answer button and away I do.
Ideas anyone?
(Thanks!)

I have the same on my iPhone using my In-car bluetooth.
If I answer using the bluetooth answer button it goes thru the car speakers. If I use the handset answer button, it uses the iPhone itself, though I can then select to change it to the bluetooth from the iPhone.
I haven't received my Brodit cradle for my HD2 yet, so I've not set it up in the car yet, but I'm expecting the same arrangement I guess.

Hmm, I guess it's a case of personal preference - while you and I seem to agree I guess other may like the way it is. The answer is therefore a way to CONFIGURE this behaviour - anyone know if this is possible?
Same thing happens on my Topaz... didn't happen in my Omnia though.
I would like to know a way to alter it as well.
Has anyone tried the Car Kit Mode bluetooth option on the HD2 in the Sense UI 'Settings' tab then 'Other' at the bottom of the list, where you can tick or untick the box for autoconnect? I haven't but would like to know if it works for you.

Not really. A carkit is also a bluetooth headset. When I'm in the car and not driving, I can always choose to answer with the carkit - then everyone in the car can join in the conversation - or answer it on the device, which I prefer when my wife is driving and the kids are in the back. Even though I've made the mistake of using the slider when I really wanted the call on the carkit, I find having the choice a pretty good deal actually.
And besides, when using a headset, who's gonna take the phone out of their pocket to answer the call when all you need do is touch your headset - or better still set it to auto answer on headset calls. And if you really *need* to know who is calling first, why not install MSVC to have the phone tell you who is calling? Seriously, what's the point in using a headset if you're gonna take the phone out of your pocket anyway?
