Advise on Headsets - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

it's highly possible that this topic i'm posting has been discussed before and i do apologize in advance for bringing it up. but i do need some tips...
i need advise on which bluetooth headset to buy. i'm presently using jabra but i'm starting to get annoyed with the bonding-rebonding issues. if you noticed; once you shut down the headset (for charging or otherwise) or the bluetooth profile in the xda you have to go through the process of rebonding. the same holds when you use activesync; the bonding is lost.
with that; i'm in the process of buying a new headset and i'm after one that doesn't have the rebonding issues; regardless if you turn it off or activesync or whatever. did some research and so far have come across the following headsets. anyone using any of them; could you please give me some feedback if these indeed work properly with the xda2 AND does not have any rebonding issues. the present rom upgrades doesn't seem to address this issue...not that i'm not ungrateful or anything ..
bluetrek
plantronics
sony-ericsson hbh
c-tech
02 headset
motorola
nokia
sorry; don't have the model numbers; any feedback would be appreciated and if you have other headsets in mind do let me know.
cheers mates

Hi Robson,
I've had a Blutrek G2 BT headset for about 3 weeks now without any problems at all. I can't really compare it to any of the other headsets as it is the first one I have owned. The main reason I got it was the fact that it was very cheap (£38) and that its supposed to be the lightest headset you can buy. It looks pretty smart too!
As for battery life, I've charged it once since I'va had it (excluding initial out-of-box charge).
Thats my recommendation, mate

Oops, that price should have read £38.

hey munkee,
thanks, and to be honest i was considering bluetrek because it does indeed look smart. have a mate who can get one for me and i just needed some more info on it. did some web browsing and it looks to be tops. like i said i use jabra; quality is good but the bonding issue is starting to be a pain in the arse.
cheers then
robson

Help possible exec bluetooth static issues!

Please help, i am runng out of my 14 day return period with o2 (Monday) i am experiencing static with my new jabra bt250 headset. Is this a rom problem as with the orange m2000 or do you think it could be the headset. i was led to believe that all of the static problems with new htc devices were fixed. i need to know as if i have a faulty exec i need to get it replaced quick. many thanks david
I have the same problem with a Bluespoon AX.
If the two are on different sides of my body, static is unbearable.

 I have bought an AX, I've never made a call on my MDA Pro to date, and my mobile number is being transferred onto t-mob (and my MDA Pro) this Monday.
Can you explain a bit more so I can not look a complete tit at work please?
I've also tried with the Bluespoon AX and couldn't use it. I sold it to a friend who has a Motorola V3 because it worked fine with his phone.
I bought an (expensive) Plantronics Discovery 640 replacement and it's a little better, but still not great. Also concerned that the problem lies with the XDA Exec and wondering whether to take it back before my 14 days are over...

I know this sound very stupid but please try it!
Turn your universal onto it's other end! I have found that when it is in my pocket I place it with the stylus to the top..I get static using my Blue G2. When I turn the universal on it's other end, I don't get static.. Weird huh?
Also, I find that putting it in my back trouser pocket gives me more statid than in my chest pocket...
Has anybody else founf this??
P
It seems to be an issue with the exec, reading around lots have encountered this problem. I'm sure they'll sort it out in the first official rom upgrade
I'm sure you're right. I just hope it's not a problem with the hardware. Anyway, I've tried my 3rd headset now - it's the Bluetrek G2 (only supports bluetooth 1.1) and it's the best by some margin. Nice, because it's a lot cheaper than the other two.
Could it be a problem with bluetooth 1.2?
it might be the positioning of the BT receiver in the exec, dont forget BT is 10M in open air not encased in an exec between a metal battery and a metal backed display screen (see image of taken apart exec in other thread )and through your body too
I was using PDA2K before using the Jasjar, and I can say that the BT performance is far better than the PDA2K but this does not mean that it's perfectd.... it really needs to be improved.
I have also to say that not all types of BT headsets work fine with Universal, I knew from some of my friends using the same device that Motorola family is not working fine with universal.
I used to have a sony ericson BT headset when I was using the PDA2K and used it with my Jasjar for two days also, but I suffered from the short battery life of the sony erricson BT headset so I changed it with Jabra BT 800 and it works far better than sony erricson and I can say it's very reliable with the device.
What I want to say here is that the reception quality via BT headsets varry according to the type of the BT headset.
Moreover, the performance of the BT in universal needs to be improved and they have to consider this issue in their new ROM upgrade.
Regards,

Worth Buying A hermes(Vario II) Now ? or wait for Kaiser ?

Hi,
What u guys recommend is it too late now ?...When it's Successor Kaiser will be out ?...Keem reply coming..
Thanks in advance Cheers mates

depends on what you will be using it for really, if you want a stable bluetooth connection for a car kit and you dont want to be rebooting the phone daily then in my experience i would not buy one. If i new about these problems before i got mine then i definately would not of brought it.
it does have a whole host of features though so i suppose you cannot have everything.
If they sort these problems out which i keep hearing they will then the phone will be worth having.
I will now go and see what the Kaiser has to offer as might be time to switch already from this rubbish. (Annoyed as you can tell and only my opinion, due to the fact that car kit works fine on my wizard and no rebooting of phone. This one does not work correctly with car kit, people cannot hear me speak, and phone has to be rebooted 2-3 times a day, and yes the phone has been replaced and it is the same problems.)
zomig
there is nothing wrong with my car kit as my wizard (o2 xda mini s ) works 100% with it, this is an issue with the Bluetooth stack on this device and has been mentioned more times than i care to remember.
It quite simply does not work. It is also supposed to be fixed when they eventually release a new rom. But i wont hold my breath.
If you really need the keyboard, then, the Hermes might prove OK (albeit, if I were you, I'd REALLY wait!). If you don't need it, wait or get he Trinity - the latter is much better IMHO than the Hermes (built-in GPS and, hopefully, FM radio).
Strange My new Hermes works better with my Bluetooth Headset than my wizard did. Sound is clearer and louder. and on my wizard when I would answer a call the caller would get a earsplitting screech as I pres the answer button. This is not a prob with the TYTN
Jules
Thanks u all guys .....really appreciate it
I don't care abt Bt Problem will have a look on trinity does t-mobile rlease trinity ?

Recommendations for X7501 BT Headset

I'm going to be getting my HTC X7501 Advantage from Amazon in about two weeks and wanted to know from current owners what bluetooth headsets you'd recommend.
I understand that this phone doesn't have a vibrate mode. Should I get a BT headset that vibrates? How about a display? What other factors are important? I've never owned a headset, BT or otherwise, so I'm new to all of this.
If you have any specific headsets that work well with the HTC X7500/X7501 Advantage, please post.
Thank you.
A lot of them here

Jabra BT8010 is very highly recommended. It has Caller ID (showing contact names when used with Jetware) and also vibrate. Second choise would be i.Tech Clip D with the same Caller ID feature, but not vibrate.

Wow, I didn't know you could search that way! On forums and subforums with keywords! Thanks victoradjei!
I've performed searches and read a bunch but thought I'd ask here as well, in case someone mentions something that I've missed.
Thank you too coyotte! I've seen a lot of people recommend the Jabra BT 8010. I've often wondered how useful the caller ID would be when this thing is stuck in my ear right? Or is it that people have this out when they get a call (I guess that makes more sense since people don't want to wear it all the time LOL!). How do people carry this along with their phone so they can get feel the vibrate and see the caller ID?
Thanks again both of you!
Aliph Jawbone FTW. Sound quality is more important to me than displays or vibration.
whoster69, I don't know if you've already seen this, but I came across this link to a demo of the Jabra BT8010 and it looks interesting:

I too have an HTC X7501 on order from Amazon (shipping est. 2-3 wks.) and was also wondering how I was to use its phone capabilities. I'm a total newb to all matters pc phone-related so I may be in left field here, but I think I'll be able to: 1) buy a BT headset w/ callerID & vibration functions, 2) keep headset in my shirt pocket or another readily accessible place, 3) be alerted to calls via the X7501's ringer function, 4) field calls by pulling the headset and checking the callerID on the headset's LED screen, and 5) answering the call by popping the headset in my ear and talking away or refusing the call by some other such means (I suppose you can push a button on the headset to have the call go directly to voice mail.) Anyway, just a newbie thinking out loud but, hopefully, posting a link to some info someone may find useful.

Thanks for the link Jefson. Yes I had seen that. I thought it was pretty useful. So far at least, I'm leaning toward the Jabra BT8010. While there seem to be headsets out there that have better clarity or noise cancellation (Jawbone) and others that have many of the functions BT8010 (BlueAnt V12), none seem to have the completeness of the feature set of the Jabra BT8010.
Have there been any people who have tried the Jabra BT8010 and didn't like it? If so, why didn't you like it? I know it's kind of big and a few have complained that it's not perfect for listening to music (something about the range not being enough). I'd be curious to see what people who have used it think of it and how practical it is to use with the HTC Advantage.
Regarding how you want to use it Jefson, I agree. I've never used a headset at all and I'm trying to figure out, ergonomically what will work. If I get a call, will it ring on the headset, the phone or both? Is it reasonable to expect that I can whip out the headset and see who is calling and then decide to take the call or not? And if I do take it can I get it put on in a reasonable amount of time to answer the call?
Anyone with some experiences with the HTC Advantage/Athena please post and let us know how this works and if our ideas are reasonable or not.
Thanks again everyone for your comments. They are helpful!
You might want to check the BlueAnt V12. Vibrate, LCD caller id (numbers only), works well with VC1.6. Good price. I like mine.1

Thanks Gary. It's one I'm looking into.
What is VC1.6?
I may be jumping the gun a bit, but I just ordered both the Jabra BT8010 and the BlueAnt V12 from Amazon and they are slated to arrive August 1st. I'm going to see how easy and convenient (for me, at least) they are to use and which one I prefer with my AT&T 8525 (UTC Hermes). I'm assuming the experience will carry over, at least to some extent, to the X7501. Anyway, in the near term I may be able to answer, remembering my newbie status, some basic questions regarding use of the two devices.

Excellent Jefson! I was thinking of doing the same thing! My X7501 will be shipping any day now so I'm hoping I'll get to test it with them fairly soon (though I don't have a cell plan yet -I plan on testing the PDA stuff first and deciding on whether or not to keep the phone before committing to a cell plan). I'm looking forward to hearing your results Jefson!
Anyone know of any headsets that are going to be coming out in the near future that are worth considering?
Great info here about the Jabra BT8010, can anyone compare to the Jawbone
in terms of call quality?
Like the Athena, the Jabra's convergence features seal the deal.
Unless there is another headset out there that has a display, and vibrate mode with stereo bt, it is in a class by itself.
If some other model comes out, I would like an internal earbud.

I agree Keith. I just thought I'd ask. Yesterday I heard about the Jabra BT8040, but it doesn't have the features of the 8010 it seems. Too early to tell for sure though.

x7500 - Jabra 8010: voice disruptions/discontinuance reported by people I talk to

Hi guys,
I am wondering about the happiness of the union X7500 - Jabra 8010. Sometimes people I talk to tell me that they barely understand me because they hear disruptions/discontinuance in a voice coming from my side. This almost never happens for voice coming from other party. I am not saying the "couple" is responsible for this but it gets me thinking... What could be the reason for this? Why voice is not corrupted in both direction (up&downlinK)? Ohh, I have the BT configured to Stereo, but I think there is no difference in case of mono…
Is there any way I could test the voice quality coming from/to Jabra? Resco Audio Recorder? Anything else….?
jabra 8010 promblem with athena
i have the same problem.
This problem not only happens with my Jabra BT8010, but also with my other bluetooth headset i.Tech Clip D.
I have the same problem too, but not always happen this. Sometimes the quality is good, sometimes bad. If the headset properties on Athena is hands free the outcoming voice is clear. If you're connecting the Jabra with Athena and there aren't any stereo icon on taskbar coming up, the problem dont ocure.
I have WM5 on athena. Perhaps WM6 will solve this bug (Or a new Jabra update).
I tried it with another phones and it worked good.
Hi!
I have contacted HTC support for this and just received their reply. Man, they are "really quick" - 2.5hours - for the bullsh#!#t answer they provided...
Her is the reply:
"Good morning
We are very sorry to hear you are having problems with Bluetooth. You may find that Windows Mobile 6 may cure this problem when it is released for your device on the HTC eClub.
For now we would recommend using a compatible recommended Bluetooth headset as below:
http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=150737
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html
"
I shall install Resco Audio Rec and try to record one of these problematic calls. Maybe it will make a difference presenting direct "evidence"...
Any other ideas?
I've got an X7501 Advantage with WM6 on it. I'll be getting the BT8010 in a week or so. I could test this out if that would help.
I have X7500 WM6 Jabra BT8010.
It just disconnects at random times. I will go back to my Jabra BT500 and use the BT8010 only when I want stereo music or other audio output.
Hopefully Jabra will take a look at this problem.
Bluetooth priority patch?
Just curious, have you guys tried installing the Bluetooth priority patch?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=262119
I believe it increases the priority given CPU wise for the bluetooth audio. It actually resolved a problem I was having with my BT8010 and the Universal, the audio during a call was a little choppy and callers reported that my voice was frequently dropping out no matter how close the device and headset were. After downloading and installing the registry edit in the 1st post of the thread I linked to above, problem is gone.
Please let me know if this works, I'm considering purchasing an Advantage and would want to know if it works with my Jabra BT8010.
Thanks,
Galt
hi guys
i've got the same problem.
but not only when using my jabra bt250v
but also when using the wired headset, or no headset at all
so imho this is not a bluetooth related problem
after installing wm6 the problem didn't improve at all.
HTC produce the best WM devices out there
and the Advantage is their flagship device.
These problems with the most basic function shouldn't happen.
And HTC's answer is just poor!
I'm sure they know about this problem and also know that WM6 doen't fix it
(or at least not the ROMs available until today).
I'm still waiting for another RadioROM to fix this fault.
hi galt,
Thanks for your post. I have manually entered the fix form your link:
"Make a new Dword value and name is Priority256 and then for the DWORD Data value make that 60 save and reboot. Presto no more lag, cuts or audio drop outs." since the attached reg file did not have the contents the author has been talking about. I made this reg file with a fix and would like to share with you...
I will test it and let you know how it goes...
Uros
Could someone monitor battery consumption with this fix?
There was a similar fix with A2DP and the current consumption was crazy, so I uninstalled it...
Good news so far
1. With the fix installed and the X7500 "at rest", there is no additional current drain = 90 mA.
2. With BT on playing music throught the Jabra BT8010 the current drain is about normal = 320 mA.
3. With BT off, the current drain returns to normal "at rest" current of 90 mA. With A2DPfix the current drain remainded at 400+ mA.
Good news so far!
NOW: the remaining question: Does it solve the problem of dropout?
I'll try it for a day or so and report back.
GREAT news so far
After 4 hours of listening to music (X7500 WM6 BT8010) with Priority256 installed, I can report:
1. One BT dropout that lasted less than 1 second!
2. Normal battery drain!
I have not used the phone enough to know if there will be and BT disconnects or voice issues, but I will report back on these issues soon.
Looks very good at this point.
So far so good
Hi,
It worked for me as well . Almost completely gone, except some tiny/small discontinuance from time to time... GREAT!
I've been using this fix for 3 days and so far having no complain from the people I talked to. Good fix indeed.
Thanks for posting the zip file, makes installation painless. Testing right now!
Well, so far so good. I did experience 2 or 3 drop outs during music play, but I can not contribute them to the device as I was in my office and an ambulance put on their sirens, somehow there must of been some interference.
The best thing about music play was that when the player switched to each successive song, there used to be an audible click or bump, that just isn't there now!
Did anyone ever confirm if this fixes outgoing audio problems? I've had several callers complain of noise/breakups coming from me, when they sounded normal. I know it wasn't a signal issue since this happens when the Advantage is next to me, and I've used my 8010 from 50 feet away through multiple cube walls plus one real wall...

Try to upgrade your Radio ROM to v1.50. That'll solve most of your bluetooth problems.

Getting the Dell BH200 BT to work w/ the Fuze

I just recently acquired a stereo bluetooth headset from dell model number BH200 and so far the stereo music quality is superb, but the moment a call comes in or I pick up a call it immediately disconnects itself. My question would be if any of you guys have any experience with this issue. the Stereo bluetooth and handsfree profile are both set to active. Any suggestions or hints?
I'm going to go on a limb here and assume that you guys haven't had access to the aforementioned bluetooth and i'm short out of luck here... right?
p.s. SAY IT AINT SO!!!!
Hi, I also have the same headphones and the same problem - only on HTC Universal flashed with WM6.
I search a bit on Google and it seems that the problem is with MS Bluetooth stack - it was working correctly for WM5 (but no A2DP), now in WM6 A2DP works, but handsfree does not.
Right now I'm testing alternative BT stacks - started with UniBT (it's Broadcomm stack modified for Universal) - now A2DP works flawlessly (before that, it didn't), but handsfree/headphones mode does not. At least trying to receive the phone call doesn't turn the headphones off.
i tested my fuze with a jabra bt2010 and it works fine. I'd prefer to not carry 2 bluetooth devices so i'm trying to find a way for it to work. I've been suggested to use a widcomm bluetooth stack as well but i dont know how to change my stack. If anyone here does know how to do it, please do enlighten us.
It's been nearly a month so I'm going to bump this thread in hopes of someone might possibly have some insight into this.
Push/bump.
I got the S9 now, it works for both functions but craps out completely when i'm outside, really bad signal reception as well as "muffled sounds" according to my audiophilic and audiophobic friends.
I think it has to be something to do with the actual firmware inside the bh200 that is wreaking some unknown havoc.
Dell bluetooth headset BH200 not working with Sony Xperia X1i
I have a Dell Bluetooth headset model BH200 and in A2DP mode, works flawless but the moment it is used with handsfree mode for call, the connection is broken and the headset switches off itself. This headset works very well with other non WM6.1 devices. Any clues with anony one what should be done in this case, some people have suggested JETware Hands-free Extension , any one tried on this.
I actually gave up on the bh200 and got myself a jabra bt8010. it works like a charm and the sound is just as good as the bh200
Indeed... i used to have a WM device (Mio A501) and I had the WM6.1 Pro..
I bought this BT at that time and it didn't work on WM6.1 (it even didn't asked me the PIN to pair it) but, when I tried with WM5.0, everything worked great, great sound on call's music, etc.. now I have a Sapphire and I'm not able to make calls on it (music works), but since I'm not driving and people used to look like "what a crazy guy speaking in English alone, no cables, it must be a mp3 or something.. hmmm" when I was on a call, it doesn't make a huge difference
i have yet to try this on wm6.5 but I highly doubt there would be a change..i'll give an update when I do charge up the bh200
i charged the bh200 up completely and tested it out.. it was a failure.. looks like 6.5 did not do anything to help...
Maybe windows mobile 7 will work.......... maybe.
You can use BH200 on call by this way only(I tested)
1. Turn on BT
2. Accepted call(However just Turn on your BT after accept call is OK)
3. Turn on BH200
4. Pair ur PDA w/ BH200
5. Done
IS this thead still active? I have a solution
Guys..
Use Reg edit and make the following modifications in your WM device by creating a new DWORD value 0 with the parameter UseESCO. Check out the path
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\UseESCO = DWORD:0 (Dont use space between UseESCO)
Then restart the phone and delete any previous BT devices on your phone, start up the paining process and get it to work.
worked flawlessly on my Dell BH200
Thanks,
Raj.

Heya, Finally got back ot he US and tested out the BH200 with the fix you mentioned. it works!!!!!
although, i'm wondering if you're having problems with the bh200 not wanting to connect to the phone automatically.
Need help for the same problem in android
I am having similar issues on my Nexus one. Dell BH200 works for music playback but stops functioning when a call is made or received. Even the connection between the phone & BH200 gets lost.
I would be really glad to get some help on this.
