SX56 upgrade nightmare - help still needed - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Okay, newbie upgrader here.
I've read a bunch in these forums, and it's been very helpful.
I upgraded my personal PPCPE (TMO) using their software, and it works great.
I was round my friend's house last night, and he has a PPCPE (AT&T).
Well, we downloaded the v30.09 firmware from Siemens website.
We backed up all the data.
We intalled the firmware.
At the end of the firmeware update, it said to turn the device off by using the hard reset button (that you have to unsccrew the stylus for.) and leave it off for a minute.
We did this.
It then said to turn it back on using the same reset button.
We did this.
However, we get the "Designed for Windows Mobile" logo, and the AT&T logo.
We get ROM versions:
G1.3.3
RA.33.02
A.30.09
After that nothing.
Having hastily given him my phone, I came home with his broken phone.
Well, having done a LOT of reading on this site, I got to use Jeff's tools to create a bootimage on an SD card, and I have been able to get the image flashed and loaded.
They device now boots.
However, I want to get the AT&T software on there as this is what's gonna make my buddy the most happy.
The image I have on there right now is SERv12.
Can somebody PLEASE tell me the best way to get this back to AT&T software running WM2003.
Thanks.

Okay, more info.
I have been successfully upgrading the ROM using the SD flash method.
I have been using Jeff's XDAtools to create the images.
I have been downloading ROM's from yorc and xdaweblink.
I have always tried versions without any software added to the ROM.
I have tried every version of 30.09 that I could get my hands on, even the one in the "SX56 upgrade utility" folder that the Siemens site created.
None have worked.
I have tried 4.00.05 ENG from yorc - didn't work (cool southpark screen though.)
I have tried 4.01.16 ENG from weblink - didn't work (Tmo verison)
I have tried 4.01.00 ENG beta from weblink - didn't work (Tmo beta version.)
I have tried A.30.07 ENG beta from weblink - didn't work (AT&T NFR version.)
I have tried 3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro from yorc -
When I say that the version don't work; here's what I mean.
I get the logo screen.
I get the three ROM versions in the bottom right.
The system then locks up and does not progress any further.
I have left the system on overnight with no difference.
The backlight comes on, but nothing else works.
I have tried the upgrades with and without a SIM card in place.
The phone was originally locked, but has subsequently been unlocked.
I have finally tried going back to A.20.17 from yorc - the original AT&T WM2002 version.
This version at least runs.
I still have the new radio stack running, but I am back to WM2002.
Does anyone have ANY idea how I might get this upgraded to WM2003.
My buddy want to run the MS Voice Command.
Also, with the updated Radio Stack, will he be able to connect continiously to the GPRS connection (sorry, I don't know too much about AT&T.) He really want the always-on internet.
Thanks for ANY advice given.

This happened to me using a mmc memory card to do the upgrade, it looked like it was doing everything ok, completed and gave the ok but on cold boot just hung, try another sd card, it just MIGHT work.

I'll look around for anohter SD card and see if that helps.
FYI, I've tried running the upgrade from the cradle/USB a couple of times, but that made no difference.
Also, since I was able to go back to WM2002 with the SD card, I can't see it being bad.
But thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go.

Load 1.1 or AT&T from Autorun???

I have made strides today, I can now connect via activesync and browse my device, however when I get to bootloader, I still get GSM Fails...
I came across some documentation that talks about autorunning to load the radio stack, but it looks like those are german/non-usa radio stacks and they don't seem to work for me...
My device is functional (albeit running really slow) as a pda, but the phone portion is still completely hosed...
Can anybody recommend some next steps??? I have tried to download the CE from another machine and that doesn't work and of course the XDARite still doesn't work for me (if I knew I could just get somebody to xdarite to my card, I would do that, but I am not convinced that will fix my problems)...
Any comments???
(a "looking brighter") OMT
Your GSM is toasted
Dear Tod,
I'm afraid your GSM is toasted. Did you try using the repair.zip procedures in this forum. The other thing I'm afraid is that you are not able to find any US Radio stack from T-Mobile on the internet. You must have the correct RSU...CAB files of the old version before you upgrade than maybe you are be able to repair your GSM Error...
I tried the repair....
but the load fails and I presume that is due to a non-us or a non-tmobile rsu cab is being used....
Anybody else think of anything...
Todd
If you're on T-Mobile's network, since now you can ActiveSync, you may want to load T-Mobile's upgrade, (from their web) and run the whole thing through. That should upgrade your radio stack back to a GSM1900 version, and downgrade your ROM to the old version. If that doesn't work, your GSM hardware could be toast. After that, you can try xda developers' 1.1 ROM again.
Good Luck

I have a (stupid) question

I finally got round to switching service from horrible AT&T to T-Mobile (US).
I have an XDA that originally was a T-mo device, it was running the T-mo image when I got it 10 months ago. I had issues with T-Mo back then so I switched to AT&T Wireless. While I was with AT&T, I was running the AT&T image. -Now that I'm swtching to T-Mo I want to run the T-Mo image.
So... I downloaded the 3.14 ENG image from the TMO website. (Including the radio stack).
I ran ADAPTROM to make the upgrader run and went about "upgrading" my device to the TMO image.
The upgrade process went fine. The device rebooted and came up with the TMO OS.
So far so good.
Next, the device itself started upgrading the radio stack. This is where I ran into problems. The radio stack upgrade dies at 1%, giving me a popup message that says "Failed, press ok to restart device"
I have now successfully re-imaged my XDA back to the AT&T image (and radio stack) and everything seems to work.
So... What did I do wrong? What should I do differently?
I apologize for asking if this has been discussed in previous posts......
Thanks
/M
All,
I know this probably has been covered several times, I am just a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information on the site...
Is there someone who has a link to a post that deals with this?
Thanks much
/M
Yes, many posts about this issue can be found here, but it easier to get TMO ROM 4.00.21 and then upgrade the RSU sparately using RSU 6.24 for T-mobile. You can find all the required staff at www.yorch.net. Select "Upgrades" from the side menu.
Good luck

no signal / provider, tried everything

hey all,
I've been with the xda I from the very beginning and have always upgraded the roms to newer versions. However, a few months ago I was happy with my 2003 and didn't upgrade.
When TomTom stopped working I thought a nice new upgrade was in order and I cooked up a new rom and installed it. I played around with it, and I think (don't remember anymore) that I've touched the band tab.
Since then I have not been able to get a signal or find a network AT ALL. I have tried everything.
I couldn't install through the normal way anymore, so I resorted to SD-installing.
Spent days here with xda-tools, tried every rom version, even installed official radio stack again. Nothing helps. I have tried selecting the band at the wallaby menu. No go!!
I'm very afraid that I've messed it up.
I will boot into the OS, but no signal. With some roms it will give me the phone setup, with most it won't.
Right now I have the german t-mobile installed. It just says: no service.
Some (current) stats:
Wallaby bootloader 5.14
R 4.21.00
Protocol: 32S54
4.01.19 GER
Is my XDA I lost??
Some pointers would be great! I'm out of idea's.
Regards,
Ruurd
I've had this recently - the way around it is simple, assuming you know what band your network provider is on.
Go to the bootloader menu (soft reset and power button), and select the band on there. I had "no service" on Orange, until I selected "1800" on the menu that is, and hey presto, working phone!
I had tried that already, and it didn't work.
However, I just did it again (tried out all combinations) and yes, it did work!
pffeww!!
thnx

What ROM works for old Wallaby?

I have one o the first T-Mobile wallaby, p/n 99HL0000-00
It originally (2003) came with 3.14.40, R6.18
Now I have R6.25.02
it boots with 3.17.07
I want to make it WM2003.
It does not boot 4.01.16, T-Mobile official upgrade, 4.00.33
(yes, I spent lot of time in the ROM Kitchen lately...)
Is there a WM2003 that this hardware will boot, or have I missed something paramount in the upgrade process? (using XDA OS, bootloader, and SD cards)
Thanks or any advice!
More Info
ok,
When switched on, it is supposed to pling ihin 20 seconds. All display updates (ROM versions) take place, but the pling and start of screen lignment never happens. Screen stays on until out of battery.
I had this problem when using an mmc card, when I used an sd card it worked fine, I have no idea why.

upgrading sx56 went wrong

Well this is the first time I've been unlucky for once. I've just finished cooking up some Rom for my ATT Siemens SX56. I was using the WM2003SE upgrading from PPC2002. I have a feeling that I did something wrong here and I'm guessing that I can't upgrade from PPC2002 and only WM2003? Well I'm not quite sure since I'm new to this. I successfully always upgraded the rom until now. After powering up, it started hanging at the startup logo with the version of the radio stack I think.
G1.3.3
UA.33
3.04
I've tried using ActiveSync and of course it didn't work. The cradle or A.S. did not recognize the device. Tried using XDATool, none. Is there anyway I could go around the ActiveSync?
Use sd card method for flashing.
tried that and it didn't work. I tried almost any methods out there. I tired upgrading from the original ATT Rom PPC2002 to the Special Edition 1.2 Rom and it still didnt work. What's odd is... I can't get my WM2003 to work anymore! When I first started upgrading the rom, I upgraded using SE 1.2, then downgrade to the original ATT rom back to the WM2003 which actually worked fine until I got piss at the radio stack and downgrade back to the PPC2002 but once I tried upgrading to WM2003SE, it didnt work at all which brought me to downgrade back to PPC2002 again and tried upgrading to WM2003 (ATT Version) which still didn't worked. I've tried upgrading the radio stack 6.24 and 6.25 and radio stack that would be compatible for the SX56 still didnt work. Even downgrading my bootloader from 5.22 to 5.15, it still didn't work. It's really odd... Can ANYONE help me?
I have similar problem, I have Qtek 1010 and I can put original rom on only (2002). I have had 2003 on there before and it worked fine but I have tried everything and nothing seems to work, all the 2003 and 2003se rom will not go past the boot screen.
Is your phone working at all.
My phone is perfectly fine, I'm just trying anyway to resolve that booting problem and so far, I'm getting no good results out of it... This is totally driving me nuts!
I tried neally every rom and I can't get any to work on my Qtek except the original 2002 Carrier device Rom...... I don't understand why we could both upgrade before with no worries and now it just will not work....
PLEASE HELP SOMEONE.....
THANKS
Well, so far I tried another rom, an older one and I still didn't get it to work... SD Flashing... The normal method with ActiveSys, it still didn't work. There has to be a reason to why this isn't working. Does ANYONE out there know whats going on here?!
