Non-Xda II (I-Mate?) Shortcuts in startup folder? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Can someone please advise which shortcuts are included in the startup folder on the standard vanilla build of the Xda II (non-O2 branded) as I'm trying to work out which I can safely remove on my O2 Xda II.
Cheers in advance.

Hmm I'd like to know this too.
Also, how about that dreadful, dreadful, O2 Active program, eh?!!! I uninstalled it the minute I realised I could.
Just for those who are interested, the startup files on the O2UK build are:
AFlashMan
BPInsert
BTIcon
CFlashMan
CheckAutoRun
HandsFree
IA_Caller_ID
MMReg
NFlashMan
poutlook
SMSReceiver
stk
TFlashMan
USSD

Tell me about it, the O2 software in plain bloatware. That's why I want the list of standard shortcuts to know what I can move out in advance of removing the CAB files at the next hard reset.

Just copy the "Profile.dll" file to windows directory and soft-reset your device and have the icon appear 4'ver with no games for 101%
Appreciate your feedback.

I have some question.
Where did this file come from?
Extract from another ROM or you fixed it.
BT Today Icon
Re-worked the same dll within WM2003 SE 2.06.00.
That's all.
Ok, it works... Nice job.
Great
One question: How can I remove that blue original BT-icon right-under (at menu bar)?

Hi!
I installed the profile.dll and soft reset my O2 XDA II (with 2.06.00WWE from mysteryman).
The problem still exists i.e. hide and seek when installing softwares and using landscape mode repeatedly changing from portrait-to-landscape and vice versa.
Buzz's version also faces the same problem.

hi FOSA,
that must be somehow device/installed SW/extROM related problem.
There are hundreds of users with no problems/hiding.
Also many users on other forums are OK with it, except one single user.
After your post, i tried it like 20 times to switch rotation and it was OK.
I will shoot a video tomorrow for you, to show you, that it is working.

Is this dependent on the BT stack you are using. I mean there are instances of devices having 2 or more BT icons because they forgot to disable the MS Stack. Kindly check.
Cyber Mate.. thanks for the tip, I will be waiting for the ROM update though...

I totally agree with bzl. I install the Ext_ROM provided as a localization (which I cant' live without) and once it is installed, the GUI becomes unstable :x
I will figure out what causes the flickering which without it it works absolutely fine.
Guys, mind you that any listed, provided or announced plugins, apps, dlls or add-ons don't have to neccessarily work stable on ALL devices unless they are GHOSTED (i.e. same software bundle and hardware).
On this forum, there are users from all around the globe with different configs of devices, so whatever posted here should work for some and not for others!! You all know even MS Windows XP® is unstable on certain PC too
is fine with me, at the most i dont show out the Today BT.
Just have to put in some work by enabling Today BT, if i wanna use BT, or permanently switch on BT.
Just have to wait for WM2005

OK guys!
Finally, I solved the mystery of why after loading the profile.dll (even in the EXT ROM) my Today bluetooth icon still disappears despite successful reports from other users.
What I've done was go to the EXT ROM (with the profile.dll loaded in it) and click on the profile.dll cab file. It'll ask you to soft reset your PPC and after which the bluetooth icon on the Today screen remains sticky FOREVER!
Now, the question is why during the booting up phase after a hard reset the profile.dll cab is not activated? Instead Ive to go to the EXT ROM to activate it after the complete installation?

Hi FOSA,
as far as i understood...
...the "profile.cab" is a replacement today plugin. That means you must install it, because it is not written into your ROM.. That's why you must always install/activate it after hard reset.
The install procedure will copy it's .dll to the \Windows folder, and because it has different name, it also modifies your registry to use replacement .dll instead the default one burned in ROM. At lease in my version of that plugin.
Actually no one is forced to use such today plugin at all. All the function of the BTHS today plugin is to read single key from registry and if you tap on it, it will revert that value.
You can enable it permanently if you edit your registry here:
\HKCU\Software\HTC\BTProfile
ON=1
That's it. After that, once you turn on your Bluetooth, headset profile will be turned on as well. If you stop BT, it will not work anyway coz no BT is enabled.
So as a conclusion, we don't need that plugin at all... or???

If you have the possibility of transferring the files to your PC, you can just use some CAB manager to open/extract the files and look through the files to get more info.

As far as I know, you can't unlock it yet. You can use Total Commander to view the files and, if you want to, delete them and then store your own files/cabs/etc in there, but you can't yet unlock it to use as a "Storage Card" like the old Big Storage hack.
I'm sure it'll come soon.....

How do you actually 'see' the files with total commander - I've got total commander but can only see a storage card
Just for information sake, the files can be found on the XDA ftp here:
xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Charmer/Extended%20ROM%20MDA%20Compact%20II%20UK
I don't really have much light to shed on what each CAB does, but I do know that the Charmer works on TMob without any of these -- you do have to manually set up GPRS and things like that if you do choose to run without them.
Heres what i made most of them out to be

CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Customization-TMUK-Charmer-01-03-08NOV05XML.CAB - Add T-Mobile MMS Settings

CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Shorcut-MMS1-JAVA6XX-CV-VOICE-EmailWiz-TMO-03Nov05.CAB - Adds Midlet Manager(JAVA),clearVue,email wizard shortcuts to programs
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_BeepMode_Longtones.sa.CAB - Changes tones on the phone program to long tones (Settings>Phone>KeyPad)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_DiscoButton8.sa.CAB - Adds disconnect to GRPS pop up
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_EnableATAbortSTKCall.sa.CAB - enables ATAbortSTKCall (whatever that is)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_ExtendedROM_Version.CAB - Adds Ext ROM ver no to reg
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_GPRS_PAP.CAB - changes default gprs auth to PAP
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_RingVol_InitVol_3.sa.CAB - changes default ring vol
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_ShowSIM_disable.sa.CAB - not sure, hides SIM from something
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_TMO_EU_UA_051003.sa.CAB - not sure, something to do with pIE ID
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_TMUK_Cust_Wiz03000100.sa.CAB - sets time zone
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Wiz_NoGPRSAutoattach.sa.CAB - Stops GPRS staying connected (G in a box symbol) maybe extends battery life?
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Wiz_TMO_STK.sa.CAB - add stk.exe with a T-Mobile logo
CAB: \Extended_ROM\SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB - enables smartdialling
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab - customizes pIE with t-mob stuff
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_pIEDefaultPage_Signed.CAB - again as above
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_UXC_Signed.cab - adds all custom t-mob shortcuts, sounds, today plugin, softkey control panel (extract that one and manually install!)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\UNI_BrowserPerformance.sa.CAB - improves pIE but increasing maxserverconnection and maxthreadrequest
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_pIE_ZoomSetting_Medium.sa.CAB - changes default zoom to med on pIE

Hi brykins please can u email me the smartdialing file..

Thanks so much.. Im going to test it on the O2 Atom..
also if you happen to have the PhonePad file too I would love to test it on the Atom.. (no the atom does not come with phone pad or the smart dailing !! how cr*p)
Thanks again.

I dont think the smartdialing cab actually contains the smartdialing software, just some reg entries to enable the already exisisting software (in rom). So if the application isnt already in your O2 Atom then it wont do anything.

from that cab file, extract
000tnmms.005
000tnsms.006
HTCCAL~1.013
SOFTKE~1.007
and rename them
tnmms.exe
tnsms.exe
HTCCalendar.exe
SoftKeyApplet.cpl
then copy them to \Windows\ you need the exe files so the new sms, new mms and calender functions work if you set them to a softkey.

Programs in the extended rom (o2 uk xda mini s)

Hi there, i have done a install without the extra o2 software by doing a soft reset as it started installing them, but would like to know each of the cab files in the extended rom are for.
i already know that CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05.CAB is the program for the mms but what are the other ones for?
Also which one is the one that installs all the gprs and mms settings?

What do you mean, the program for the MMS?
The only one I know so far is that SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB restores the nice smart dialing function to the 'Phone' application (as the name suggests!).
Does anyone know what the AutoRun.exe file actually does? I assume one of the things it does is execute config.txt but it seems quite a big file to do just that (103.8k). Anybody got any ideas?
Hi Folks,
1st of all - the most programs are NOT INSTALLED. They are actually installed in the ROM-part already! This was different on the Magicians - so everybody thinks it is so with the Wizard.
Every CAB that is around 70k contains only some links or registry entries - since most of the 70k space is used by the CAB-signing and internal stuff.
CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05.CAB is NOT the MMS-Program but a small CAB (around 70k) which inserts ONLY the links to JAVA (MidletManager) Voice-Dialing and MMS to /windows/startmenu/programs
SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB does NOT install the Smartdialling up - it just ENABLES it. The CAB just inserts some Registry-entries so the program can be used.
The "biggest" File on my VPA compact 2 is the "Customize_Voda_DE.cab" which contains a lot of BITMAP-Graphics for the (IMHO very nice looking) vodafone Dialpadskin/Dialskin.
Greetings
plant
Ah that explains a lot!
Thanks!

WM5 dialpad and smart dialler

I've got an XDA Mini, but installed using the corporate install - no O2 rubbish.
I used the registry hack to change the dialpad back to the original WM5 one, but now the smartdialler thing won't work. I've changed back to the O2 one and it works again.
Any suggestions to get smartdialler working with the WM5 dialpad?
Cheers.
The extended Rom contains additional configuration and registry settings as a CAB. I reset mine without the O2 stuff then ran Smartdialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB from the extended rom directory. Restart the device after that and you've got the smart dialler back (well thats how it worked for me anyway!).
Does not work. It is possible more in detail?
I think will not work!
I Have a T-Mobile MDA Vario, chnge registry too because don't like T-Mobile Dialer skin, and smartdialer not work anymore... same as bsterngillet.
Now I change ROM to Qtek and work dialer and smartdialer WM5 default... and is much light = speed!

When you say not working, do you mean the .CAB file is not there or that nothing happens when you run it?
If it isn't there I could post my copy to the internet but other than that I am only going on my experiences with UK ROM's I'm afraid! On another thread, user 'Plantagoo' has cleared up what the CAB files do more so it may be that your device does not have the smartdialler program (I'm just guessing here!).
Where to take Smart Dialing for Pocket PC ver. 2.2?

Pocket MSN disabled on p3600 TIM branded!! looking for an hack to fix this

Hi all,
I've a p3600 tim branded and the problem is that if i do an hard reset and let customize the device via the files present in the extended rom, then pocke msn is disabled...if I do a hard reset and then a soft reset to stop customization when it starts, then the pocket msn is enabled.
is there a way to re-enable the pocket msn without this workaround cause i'd like to have the tim customization or at least the others customizations present in the extended rom?
Thank you in advance and excuse me for my bad english.
P.s.1
in the extended rom i have only 3 files .cab and a .txt, but when the customization starts it install more files .cab?!
P.s.2
I know that if i want i can crate a shortcut from \windows\instmsgr.exe to \windows\start menu and enable messenger, but what i need is to enable pocket msn and the today plugin
You can find under /windows the instmsgr.exe program that is ONLY the MSN messenger and not all the Pocket MSN suite.
Create a shortcut under \windows\start menu\ and it's all right!

Hi alexbard,
many thanks for your reply, but look at Ps2 point of my post, I already know what you suggest, my question is how to enable the entire suite of pocket msn with the today plugin....
any news from the board?
[email protected]
You may try Windows Live for WM5, though it is still a beta version, but it has both msn & messenger.
Hi,
Where can we find windows live messenger 2005?
Windows Live works not so well..... especially under wifi.
I found it looking at emu***le, browsing for live_messenger_wm.
No news until the new rom release, htc confirmed a few bugs in the TIM release.
This is the bad cab file!!
Hi there,
I'm playing with some registry entry trying to solve the problem...I'll post any news...
Here attached is the cab file that makes the TIM customizazions and disable Pocket MSN (be carefull to launch it on your non TIM branded device if you dont want to hard reset to re-enable pocket MSN), if someone can examine the cab to understand where this file makes the changes that disable PMSN is welcome, I'm not so smart :-(
The file is not present in the extended rom but in the \windows dir, probably is recalled by another file of the extended rom.
hope this help our needs..

I'll have a look at it.... stay tuned...
Had a look at that cab file, but there are not registry entries.
Maybe the MSN is disabled in another cab, or it's done from an executable.
I have a TIM branded P3600 and done a hard reset without letting the device install the extra software. Works fine and I don't miss any of the added features from TIM software customization...
sorry...

Hi vbi,
it's sure that PMSN is disabled by the cab I'have attached before...I made the following:
Hard reset
Reset before customizations starts...PMSN is enabled!! Then...
Under \windows tap on that cab and.... PMSN is disabled so, if there are not registry entry probably PMSN is disabled by an exe present on that cab like you say, also not all but some customizations like Alice mail and the settings for MMS and server exchange are miss..
Damn!

I did the same. I gave a look to the cab just to see if I can modify it for you.... but no luck!
Anyway... I just add the MSN icon to th HTChomeplug... easy.
Ciao!
