IMPRESSIVE! VERYYY IMPRESSIVE!

That's good news, especially that everything sold in Dubai is NOT sim locked. But is this info confirmed? Anybody already bought one (he must be among the first in the world) ?

read the posts below
in the posts below the news there are some with pictures of the boxed product.
and more important: manual with an optional battery pack with CF sleeve
this is more than outstanding specs

AED 3050 is the going cost ( NB no income tax and no Sales Tax only a 5% import duty is raised here in DUBAI) so higher than YOU GUYS will have to pay, the beast only comes with a charger (Connection plug is bigger than the old Qtek or SmartPhone, also it comes with a FIXED Euro Wall Plug...the old one here came with an exchangable wall Plug) , a chrging adapter (also changed !) a USB/Charging Cradle a CD with ActiveSync/Outlook 2002 (Outlook 2003 was launched Yesterday here in Dubai!), a spare stylus...and a couple of handbooks...
YOU must use the autoconfig on Powerup ! if you dont you will not get IA phot, Camera,Album and a host of other things...BUT be warned it will try to install ARABIC OS Extensions...so If you do get one you must start the Autoconfig, but CANCEL all the requests to install the Aribic apps. It seems only to do this once..so be warned..
Quick Review
Screen is better than a HP1945 but about the same as a HP 2xxx
Batt seems to be longer lasting than the old qtek
reception is improved also
OS and APPS seem to have some issues Stability is poor, I did run PC2003 4.05/4.16? for the last 3 months on my qtek and seemed much more stable
GPRS has improved now you can select 4R1 or 3R2 !
modem is there.
if some one can figure out how to get the beast into Boot loader I will make a ROM image on SATURDAY (going to the UK tonight) when i return
cheers
derek

if some one can figure out how to get the beast into Boot loader I will make a ROM image on SATURDAY (going to the UK tonight) when i return
Great idea DEREK !
You have to contact to Developer or Jeff or York...

One question NoBackUp if you dont mind:
how is the screen like in bright outdoor daylight. Can you see clearly to read say in a bright outdoor cafe or to use the camera under direct sunlight?

Hey

HTC i-MATE Pocket PC Phone Edition is the King of the Hill

I wanted to let everyone know that both I and a good buddy of mine are running our brand new (two week old) i-MATE Pocket PC Phone Edition units directly from HTC. THEY are both the FULL ENGLISH ROM right from the factory direct, no flashing required. The are excellent units with good battery life and everything better than the T-Mobile units we have before. They have lots of bonus software and since we didn't flash them, we will have no difficulty loading any upgrades later on from Carrier Devices. If you need to know more about the devices go to www.imate.com
We ordered our from a great company in the middle east called Compume at www.compume.com and the devices were delivered to our doorsteps in Toronto within seven days of ordering. The pricing was excellent and BEST of all. If you order the english full version you get a full year world wide warrenty, yes worldwide full warrenty. We are running them with the our original sync/charge USB cables at work and car chargers from our XDA units - perfect no problems ... Again, ordering the i-MATE from Compume means a full warrenty and full english version and less than seven days shipping. The devices surf very fast and with the patch for the ID caller program provided already for the i-MATE units, its flawless. Battery life (after 12 hours of work today (on the whole time) it sits at 41% still. Multi-tasking is great, pictures are surprising very very good. MSN is terrific as always. It holds its GPRS and if your wondering if it is worth it to upgrade from the original - it is truely like night and day ... Dont' hesitate with Carrier Devices HTC i-MATE or ordering from Compume. This is without question the best unit on the market and I've had them all. Oh btw - HBH-65 BT headset, perfect and flawless. I am running as is my buddy on FIDO in Canada with no difficulties what so ever. Dont play with your money and go for the original English Rom. If your wondering about price, our total bill came to 2200.00 CDN for TWO devices and that included shipping costs (7 days and that was with customs)door to door.
You're preaching to the converted, dude !!
camera issue in imate
hi everybody,
got my imate and i really like it . however there is one issue that i think needs attention. although i know the camera is just a toy but why does it mess up images? when I am trying to fix a position to take a picture, everything is clear but when i take the picture there are problems in the picture such as it's quite unclear. is this an issue with the jpg compression utility or something like that?
oh yeah also, today i recieved a call and i tried picking it up but my imate froze. i had to reset and the call was dropped.. this only happened once but does anyone know what's the issue there?
thanks.
Rather lightweight compared to the XDAII though isn't it? 1/8th of the RAM, 1/2 the ROM, 1/3rd the CPU speed and no bluetooth (even the limited stack in the XDAII).
It comes down to what you want, a phone with PDA capabilities or a PDA with a built-in phone.
I agree....I am the guy with the other I-mate. After using this for a week I have to say is WOW. What a powerful pocket PC. I loved my Tmobile XDA but this just blows it away.
Pics and that are @ http://www.carrierdevices.com.au
The store compu-me is a LARGE retail chain in UAE so very stable. You use your Visa or Mastercard which should have 100% protection so not like buying through paypal or sending some guy money who will get someone else to sent it. So we felt good about buying that way. We spoke to the store and they were very helpful and shipped it out right away.
Just a few notes on the I-mates. They do have support for Arabic. Meaning when you first turn it on, or perform a HARD reset it will prompt you to install Arabic language support, Just click decline to the prompt and your ROM will be fully english. I have not had mine lockup or do anything strange was a very smooth week.
The devices did come with a Full Leather Case (I am hearing some do not), the option CD came with 2 complete high end games, Tennis and Odyssey.
In the Box you Get:
- The i-mate (of course)
- USB Cradle
- Power Adapter (tis a UK plug, you just need to purchase a prong adapter) it is a 110 volt and 220 volt adapter!
- Leather Case
- Stereo Headphones
- Activesync/Outlook
- Bonus CD
- Extra Sylus
- Full Colour Manual in English of course (very good, I actually read the chapter on the camera lol)
I have used my Lili sync from Pocket PC techs without any problems all week at work, also bought some writeshields from them (expensive but glad I did).
If you want to buy XDA2 then this is the only SMART way to go...
What? Who? Promo?
What's with all this "make a huge promo in 2000 words or more"? "Hey you really need one of these"!!!
Bogus. I played with one... yea, if you want a tiny little screen, no RAM, no processor speed, then it's great. If you want a PDA that's also a phone, then that's not it.
Umm 128mb, 400 Mhz...what are you talking about, the specs of the imate are the best there is. You must have the XDA2 / Imate confused with something else?

Problem with i-Mate Jam?

Please share the most annoying thing that you don't like about your i-Mate, O2 Mini or something similar to it.
I have the O2 XDA IIs and the one part I hate about it is the inabillity to answer call the first try. It does this every hour on the hour.
I have never had a problem with my O2 XDA II. Other than the incompatibility with SPB Pocket Plus on the occasion hard reset, but to say the least it's a software problem, not hardware.
I'm thinking of upgrading to an i-Mate Jam because of the size and the 1.3 mega pixel camera. I'm thinking of upgrading the ram to 128mb from PPCTech, I don't think 64mb is enough, since my old Compaq iPaq 3955 had 64mb and HP iPaq 4155 wasn't enough.
Please share before I jump the gun and purchase the i-Mate. Thank you.
1) the camera is no good (Nokia 7610 1.3MP beats it handsdown IMO). even after the patches and fixes. bearable for snaps.
2) the bluetooth is MS stack. not a problem more of a preference; been spoiled by Widcomm on my previous PPC (an iPAQ), interface is not as easy with wizards.
other than that I love my JAM!!! but get an O2XDAIImini they say it has better resale value.
I heard that the i-Mate jam or similar to it, like the O2 Mini has a problem with picking up calls? If someone calls, it'll get drop, but after a soft reset, it doesn't do that. Is that true? That's almost the same problem as the XDA IIs or PDA2K.
More irritations
when the XDA Mini battery saving function is set, the system goes into sleep mode after the annointed period.
If you are using bluetooth headset (mine is plantronics M3000) on lengthy conversations you loose half the conversation (transmission side only , reception works OK) when the sleep mode activates, until you turn the unit back on. So you either have to live with the reductiion of battery life, the signal loss or remember to turn off the sleep mode, mid conversation.
Others have reported similar problems with no fixes in sight.
The battery life is disappointing but I have not owned other PDA's to compare it with.
The camera is a gimmick only, not for serious use.
I also have trouble in some internet sites requiring pop-up password entry
input (ie. one of my bank accounts) where it just will not acknowledge the data input. Dont know why, and the bank IT people cant explain it either. It works well on another similar banking site. ????
But.. all things considered, it is a pretty useful gadget.
PS; Cant buy any accessories in Australia yet, but www.boxwave.com in USA was a useful site and easy to deal with.
I haven't had any probs with battery life on my Mini. Much better than my SE T610, particularly when you consider the Mini does a double duty of phone and PDA.
Camera works fine for what its there for. Its not designed to replace a digicam, just be there for those moments you don't have it with you.
Not had any of these call problems described.

I'd have to disagree with these two comments, I think the battery life is good on the JAM and as for accessories, lots of online aussie gadget shops sell accessories for the JAM.
http://www.expansys.com.au/
http://www.mrgadget.com.au/
just to name a few.
I shall sit corrected and withdraw my remarks about the accessories in Australia.
Thanks for the links. Have already used one and the other was helpful.
When looking around early last month I coud find accessories listed on websites but nil stocks available. I was impatient so I got my soft case from the states, and aluminium case from Singapore while visiting. Good to see the local have caught up. Although they probably all come from the same places
Thanks for the Input
Thanks for the input, I was curious and now I found the answer.
As long as the pda don't act like my O2 XDA IIs, then I'm fine. I hate it when I pick up a call and can't hear anything on the other end until I have to soft reset it.
I love my O2 XDA II, but it's lacking buttons and keyboard. Both the II and IIs is too big, so I'm gonna try the Mini.
Anyone wants to buy any of my XDA II or IIs? Hehe, I'm serious.

Anyone can explain price difference btw Qtek S200 and o2 neo

Hi...
i would like to buy a HTC prophet derivate...
as far as i understood from reading the wikipage
there is no technical difference btw e.g.
dopod 818pro, qtek S200 and o2 neo...
However, I oberserved a big difference in price for the latter two in germany (around 80-100 €)... dopod is not available here...
So does anyone knows a reason for this ?
I would very much like to stick to the cheapest one (of course),
but maybe there are some minor differences...
I also read that a dopod with english rom boots faster than a Qtek version with german rom ??
However, one could change this just by loading a new ROM, right ??
thanks for clearing things up...
Marcel

They are the same apart from the badge painted on them.
Well mostly anyway. They differ only in the software each provider adds to the basic specification. For example O2 will add O2 Plus.
You can indeed flash one prophet ROM with the ROM of the other prophet - but be careful otherwise you will end up with an expensive paper weight.
The price difference relies upon the software bundled and the warranty and tech support you get.
QTek costs less because there's almost lacking tech support, but at least you get twice as much of warranty (2 years vs 1 year) than on other brands.
Hi Rayan...
in fact, the o2 Version is cheaper than the QTek one...!
But thats a different story... Just after i ordered the o2 mobile on monday "night", i noticed that the price was higher on tuesday morning (similar to the Qtek) - maybe i asked too much questions
However, i ordered for the cheaper price; lets see if i will get it...
cu.... Marcel
P.S. in generell i have the feeling that technical support is always a bit disappointing... usually you find more help in these kinds of forums
Hint: O2-prices can vary a *lot* between online shop, O2-stores, independent phone stores and the MediaMarkt stores.
Be sure to check that!
cu
Hi ...
yep, true... But i just got my o2 neo last Friday from an internet store and... the display is heavily damaged... one can use it but it has a huge (20x10 pixs) spot of dead pixls...
So.. having bought it in a slightly more expensive o2 store would be nice now as well... lets see...
cheers.. Marcel

Just bought me a qtek 9000

Just won an auction for a qtek 9000 with tomtom 5.21 and a tomtom BT antenna..
Paid the ridiculous sum of 265 $ for it all with posting..
did i get ripped of ?
It is to serve purely as a navigation in my car, as i have a hermes as primary phone.
And hence comes my question.
Will there be any need for me to update to WM6 ?
and if not which Wm5 rom is the most stable ?
Hope this is ok to ask and hope i dont start a flame war (distinct possibility in the hermes forum if u aint careful)
Charon
No upgrade needed...
As said above if you're just using the device for navigating in your car you probably don't need to upgrade - it might be a bit slow though... As for the price they regularly go for about $280 here in the UK so I think the price you paid is about average. Oh and I think once you see that 640x480 screen you might just change your mind about using it as just a navigation aid! I think most people here are using Helmi 3.5.1 if I'm not mistaken - don't use it myself as I've got WM6 installed on mine.
You Paid How Much?!
YOU PAID HOW MUCH?!
To my knowledge you got a really really really good deal. I've never paid less than $650 (USD) for any version of the Universal. Where did you auction, Ebay? If anyone has these device for: x< $650 I strongly advise you to sell it on Ebay where I constantly see these things top out at $800.
To answer your origionaly question you got a really good deal and no need to upgrade to WM6. I agree with the previous post that after using the Uni you might find your hermes to be inadequate. If you were to upgrade to WM6 the most stable ROM that I've tested would have to be the Latest Darkforce ROM (the bug for me was with playing Mpeg-4 encoded video files). Ivan's new ROM and Midget's is pretty stable I only have a few issues with email accounts that I posted about. Let me know how it goes with your new endeavor.
Very Happy to know that i got myself a good deal (I love good deals)
I bought it on a danish auction site called mobilauction.dk
it had been on for 10 days with no bidders and 5 min before auction ended i bid the minimum bid 1500 dkr = 265,5$
Normally they sell for 3-4000 Dkr here in denmark used 530-710$
That is what i have seen after digging around since i won the auction.
The main reason i got the hermes as primary is because i use it as modem for my laptop with hsdpa.
Thinking of selling it and getting a Moto Z8 when it arrives.
Have already ordered a Brodit carholder for my universal so i can sit nicely in my car.
If the quality of the calls is good i might use it as primary.
Getting a pioneer 9800BT installed on friday so it might be a nice carphone
And if i decide to use it as primary then i for sure must start flashing, will get serious withdrawel symptome if i dont flash weekly, bad habit from the hermes forum....
So for now i got a new toy to play with until the athena's come down in human prices :8

Jasjar for sale - $125

For $125:
1. I-mate Jasjar - G3 device w/Jwright rom
2. Docking station (usb and a/c charger)
3. 2gb SD card – Sandisk Ultra II
For additional $100:
1. BT Stereo Headphones ( http://www.bluetake.com/Products/BT450Rx.htm)
2. BT Caller-Id Headset (http://www.jabra.com/Sites/Jabra/NA-US/products/Pages/JabraBT800.aspx)
JJ works great and willing to show livecam of it or might put video of it on youtube soon. There are minor scratches which are cosmetic only. Also, I cracked the screen a couple of months ago and had it professionally replaced by PPC techs for around $200 in itself, so screen is literally brand new. However, there is a very small cosmetic crack on bottom of the screen FRAME and not the screen. It is very minimal and does not affect screen rotating or screen dispaly in any way. It is just cosmetic. Email me if interested.
waiting on you to give me a reply back in my email i'm interested in buying lets set it up okay.....and if you got pics that would be great my email is [email protected]
i m interested too.Email me on [email protected]
I have broken JasJar also - who is PPC?
My USB port pulled out. Do you have somebody who will solder it back in or repair USB port? Here in Memphis, Tn. USA I would have a better chance of finding a polar bear! [email protected]
HI buddy!
Intrested in ur imate JASJAR. I'm in oman, where r u from?
send me pics of the mobile :- [email protected]
bye
Do you want to send this to India ...and would you bear shipping costs? PM if interested. I might even bear the cost if its not too much Alternatively if you are based in USA or shipping to my USA address is cheaper (New Jersey) we could do that
Regards
Your JasJar for Sale - I am interested
It sounds like a awful lot of people are wanting to buy your JasJar! Count me in also! I wonder if the JasJar is going extinct because they seem to be harder to find and less support? I love mine, and have not found anything else that seriously competes with the JasJar or other renamed equals. Hugh

They're definitely not hard to find But its a better rate than buying it from a shop here. Cut the middle man so you get a better price here
SOLD!!!
Sorry everyone, I've been away. Yeah, it was sold pretty quickly. Thanks for all the responses.
