Campaign: "Get the XDA-developers a bunch of XDA IIs !! - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hey: Let's all tell HTC, the OEMs, the telcos and whoever else that they need to send a few XDA II devices to the XDA-developers, so they can end up on our workbench for the ultimate review, and we can start building some cool stuff for it.
We may not be able to sign NDAs, but we're all really nice, and we'll even pay for postage...

XDA developers!!
abit out of question on here but
YOU BUNCH OF GUYS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a great idea
Hello
it's a great idea and i'm ready to send them E-Mail with the request but unfortunately i don't have their contact numbers or E-Mail.
if anymone knows their E-Mail address or contact number please let me know.
thanks and have a great weekend
Othman

Not to p*ss on everyone's fireworks... but I would be surprised if there are no legal restrictions on HTC to simply "give" the XDA Developers the XDAII before the actual carriers get a copy of it.
AS you would probably expect, the carriers, like O2 and Tmobile, would enter into a contract with HTC for them to produce the products over a certain period... I would have guessed that there would be some restrictions about when they can distribute their "own" version of the XDA II.
I would have thought that the better place to try to get a free XDA II is by contacting the corporate Marketing department within O2 and Tmobile... There would likely be one individual who is responsible for coordinating the marketing effort of the XDAII and it would be these people that the XDA Developers would want to have a chat with. By positioning the XDA developers website as "the leading technical authority" and a huge community of over XXXX users, this group wields a fair amount of influcence regarding the purchasing decisions their members make...
... or something like that...
O2's offices in the UK are based in Slough, by the way...

yeah lets all help XDA-developers.
Hey guys give me the e-mail or address ill send a letter a week.

O2 and XDA-developers sign deal

How come I only get these ideas two days too late...
Press release
In an unprecendented and bold move, O2 has licensed the process of providing upgrades for their XDA PDA-phones to 'XDA-developers', an independent group of developers working on the XDA. Starting today the XDA developer support link on Source O2 will point to the XDA-developer fora.
"When we started looking for a partner to outsource this to, we quickly discovered most of the real tech-support was already being handled by XDA-developers, so they were the logical choice, really. And our own support for developers just could not match theirs. The XDA-developers have also been instrumental in achieving cultural change here at O2. For instance: they've helped us realise we would be better off in the long run if we upgrade all remaining 32 MB units to 64MB and if we stopped selling SIMlocked units.", says H. Uphisas, product manager for XDA at O2 Europe.
"It's challenging to now have access to all the knowledge, and to open it up to the world. Having full hardware documentation, and being able to create our own ROM upgrades has long been a goal here at XDA-developers. This partnership will allow O2 and the XDA customers to fully benefit from our knowledge of the device and of what its users and software developers want. O2 has done a great job of supplying upgrades and support in the past, but we feel confident that we can make further improvements.", says Peter Poelman, spokesperson for the XDA-developers.

But really: why couldn't some provider just "open it all up"? They'd sell more units and more call-minutes, and they'd have less work. Right?

Ofcourse. I would have taken more trouble to launch it as a 'real' press release if I had thought about it two days ago...

Best regards and thank for your great site
ps: i can help you to weld memory upgrade to 64 Mo in france near marseille ...
been using xda since last year of nov. of last year... and ever since i never changed my unit... its cool and its sleek......I love this phone!.....
More power to all of the developers!
I agree what is happening in XDA-developers pages and forums is more important and even more proffesional than any company. My respect to every member of this family as you have givin us the chance to improve and fix the mistakes by the people who call themself PROs ...
Forgive me for being naive, but I wonder if the o2 Developers WOULD actually look favourably on some tie up with the guys and gals here? (if it hasn't been tried before).
I'm sure o2 suits would have a fit, but there could be room for 'informal' dialogue.
Please let me know if I'm away in La-La land...

I thought you people would never ask...
I don't know what your role in O2 is, but I'll assume you're serious about this. By all means, let's have some serious discussion between O2 and some senior XDA-developers. At the very least, I can see many ways of working together which would help optimise the flow of information between O2 and the users.
About the suits: I really think we can come up with ways in which any proposed cooperation would actually end up making more money for O2 and provide better support for the users.
Please provide me (either personally through E-mail, or publically here) with what you feel would need to happen next. Maybe we should create a new forum, in which we provide access to womever for O2 would need to be at the 'table', plus some reasonable XDA-developer delegation.
I was personally thinking of about 5-10 people that all regularly post here and that seem to have an opinion or interest in making stuff better. Shall I propose a list for this delegation in the next few days ?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH! - (sound of man rushing to stem confusion....)
>>I don't know what your role in O2<< - No, no - I'm nothing to do with o2 apart from donating them hard earned cash every so often.
I'm the kind of guy who specialises in 'sensible compromise' through my job, so was applying that logic to here as well.
But seriously folks... as you lot here obviously have a lot to offer the disgreacefully under resourced o2 dev dept, have you actually tried picking up the phone / sending a discreet email offering some tie-up? Not too sure what the financials would be, but a free XDA every other month must be a possible.
Lol, they should do this now .
Good old times...

Same question here
What is going to make if all here is for free?
This forum is not for making money, is for sahreing knowledge, help others and enjoy the FREE ROM´s and apps from the real Devs.
If I´m donating will be to this site!
Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

Who says that you'll really give the money to WorldVision? And who says that you'll actually develop the application? ...
DHA Major,
This seems like a very good idea, ie people donate to a worthy cause and they get a development back via you. You have several problems to overcome though to make this happen:
1) Credibility - people need to be convinved of your technical abilities and your ability to deliver.
2) Honest - you already have someone questioning whether the money will go to the cause. Not sure how you address this.
3) Apathy - Sadly a lot of people enjoy having things for free while not making any form of financial contribution. If you look through some of the threads on here from a while back you will see that some even demand things get developed and delivered even though developers are given their time, effort and technical abilities for free (search through some of the Schaps threads on XDA to see what I mean).
It might be a good start for you to develop and release an application for us to see what you can do (sorry, I have not been on here for a while so if you have already developed and released an app on here without me seeing it then that's great). Once that is in place then you need to find some way of ensuring that people donate and that there is evidence that the donations are heading off to the charity as expected.
I applaud your idea; just not sure how you get around some of the problems highlighted above.
Good luck.

Nice information.
Rather than flooding their mail boxes, why don't we write a formal open-letter in the name of XDA developers Community exposing our findings and suggestions?
Any volunteer? (my english is not so good)
Please note that I'd not approve a letter that is based on insults or describes this product as "rubbish"... I'd prefer they understand that we may have a win-win cooperation in order to make this (and others) product better. So if we're going to expose some problems we'll need to document every problem in a technical way.
Already a thread about this in General:

I have my doubts if one letter on behalf of xda will do the job and make them sit up and notice, maybe a Zerg rush would work better???
Why not try both
Poor guys...
Well maybe poor guys... nonetheless their emails were easily found and in the public domain, and they are listed on Linkedin, so fair game in my opinion
The emails were in that Samsung "do not download internal testing" app on Market, unpacked it and looked through the code - THATS PUBLIC DOMAIN! lol...
the professional way to handle this is via Facebook, as already mentioned on the other topic
it works, and we already got results
so lets do it again
+1 to Facebook.. its kinda public so theres bigger chance ull get some results..! instead of personal emails..

LOL!
+1 for Zerg rush.
What would be the effect of flooding?
They are pissed, delete the mails and remove the e-mail adresses.
Do you want this?
Much better effect can be obtained by an open letter, at best in cooperation with other well known (regional) forums and a message to some news sites.
use this instead

Well, I disagree. POLITE emails directly to people involved is better than indirectly through FB imho. But why not use both methods as someone suggested?
I agree. What we need is a well written coordinated letter to the samsung staff, which would represent members of this and/or other forums and websites and thus, many galaxy s customers....

Three UK questionnaire

Hi guys, hope this doesn't breach any forum advertising rules or anything. But my nephew is doing a project at school about the mobile phone industry and why consumers sign up to certain networks. He's looking at marketing in particular and has done about two questionnaires and research etc...
Anyway, he asked me if i could do one of his questionnaires, so i did and i thought i'd put it on here so he could get more responses. Now it was originally on paper so i've just copied it into this website. There might be a few errors as i haven't fixed it all.
I'd be very grateful if you guys could fill one out for him, shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes.
Just to let you know. To fill this out, you have the be a Three UK customer who has left/switched from a different network in the past.
http://freeonlinesurveys.com/s.asp?sid=d54749u3lzs99iv65854
Thanks guys.
P.s please no spam answers or any bias based on the traffic sense thing. The survey Is meant for new customers who have just taken out a contract recently.
I think there is a problem with the link, it brings me to a page displaying; "Incorrect survey link code!"
Link updated,
Thanks mate.

Best Type Of Ad To Promote Mobile Apps

Best type of ad to promote mobile apps
When advertising your app to other countries start from the grass roots level which is pinpointing the countries which you will advertise first. This is important so will have a much clearer picture on who you would will to sell you app to.
Once you establish the list of countries the next thing that you should do is to localize your app. English may be the medium where individuals from different countries understand each other but what else could you do to attract more people to your app? Incorporate their local language in your app. Not all people can thoroughly understand English and are drawn to pay more attention to things that they could understand.
Now after doing all those things, you need to find a DSP (demand side platform) which has self-serve RTB(real time bidding) capabilities like Bluagile and start creating mobile web and in app campaigns. This is the most affordable, convenient and efficient way to run your campaigns. Using a DSP lets you connected with more or less 30 differennt ad exchages which means accessing more traffic than you can ever imagine over 200 countries worldwide. The cost wouldn't be a problem since it's a self-serve RTB you can bid whichever rate you would think would be best suitable for the campaign. Another great thing about this is that they have a brand safe inventory which is accessible through static banners. DSPs usually providereportings on their platform which is far better than getting separate reports from various blogs, article and sites. Creating a buzz in the world wide web is the best way to get more people interested in something new and investing in CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) is the perfect fit to achieve that goal.
To sum it all up, you're creating a mobile campaign using static banners to ensure bot free traffic at a very cheap and affordable cost and you can view the reportings on one area which is very convenient. Learn more about Bluagile by visiting the site:

Dear colleagues!
In this text below, I want to warn you about the scam danger from "Advertze" company.
We signed the traffic purchase agreement, made the prepayment of $2000 and after that Advertze disappeared.
I'll give you a summary of the situation that happened while negotiating with Advertze.
Our company, Hotger, is the user of MyMediaAds platform, which was the reason of finding and choosing Advertze.
We contacted Aaron Lopez, a manager of the company and the dialogue was started right away.
We have signed the document and received signed invoice for $2000. We did the payment for this invoice by bank transfer and sent the Swift payment confirmation, then we asked them to confirm the payment receiving. After that our partners disappeared, no one answered the phone or email.
We decided to contact Advertze the other way. Our manager added Aaron Lopez( the one who disappeared after payment) on skype. He answered surprisingly quick, started asking about work details and about prepayment!during the discussion Aaron Looez asked for email address. Because we all have same domain it was probably familiar to him. As soon as he saw the email address Aaron disappeared within 2 minutes and deleted our manager from skype and never contacted us again.
This second situation left no doubt, that Advetze is a scam company. They steal not only money but your precious work time.
This is why we want to spread this information as much as possible. Dear colleagues, our company Hotger is warning you, to avoid any contact with Advertze company. Beware of scammers never discuss any prepayments. We, Hotger company, strongly believe that this text should be spread as much as possible in order to avoid the same situation that happened to us.
Wishing you peace, happiness and good honest partnerships.
