Hi ZeroXtreme,
Mind if I ask which country have you used the new rom? Have you used it in Singapore or Malaysia?
Cheers
Vic

I did use the rom kitchen wm2003 rom wih my asian edition (64 mb) xda with xda UK's rsu 4.21 successfully. I live here in the Philippines and I did not get any signal problems with Globe telco. I reverted back to 3.14.17 asian xda rom coz I heard that they will be releasing an updated rom this month.

used wm2003, its nice but to me personally, a bit laggy sometimes. don't try it with the 32 mbyte model. did the wm2003 upgrade on my bro's 32 mb device, and he had so little ram left! lucky for him he has a 256 mbyte sd card for software!
otherwise, its pretty good! now i'm currently running SER 1.2

I am from Malaysia and upgaraded to Rom Kitchen 4.00.05ENG and Radio4.21.00.
I have nothing but praise for the new os.
Have not encounter any of the known problems(SD card erase or alarm trouble).
As my Xda is 32M I have almost all my stuff on the 256M sd leaving 21M of ram free.
There are many enhancements making this a great upgrade. You wont notice the speed increace unless
using cpu intensive apps like emulators. The speed
improvement in PocketSNES is like using one of the
new 2003 ppc's and the always on GPRS is sweet!
I am using Digi prepaid.

was wondering if you flashed your rom , how did you managed to put back in all the cantacts onto the new rom? i tried flashing my rom but was unable to restore contacts onto the new rom

sync with Outlook first before you update your ROM, and then sync again after updating to ROM, this will bring back all your contacts and files from mydocuments

just cooked (last night) 4.00.11 ENG WM2003 and sucessfully installed it on my O2 Asian Ed. with Radio 4.21. Installation went smooth...but now the problem is :
1. not able to deliver any sms. All sms settings seemed fine.
2. RF signal meter ..much lower signal.
note: the always on GPRS present you with an irritating task, as you cannot find the END button to cut your your GPRS connection once connected.
can any one please give your comments? cheers

Yeah, currently using 4.00.05 in Australia. Used the Yorch ROM and burnt it on using XDA Tools.
It's a sweet upgrade, even though I've only been using it a couple of days. No problems yet. The first thing I've noticed though is the "always on" GPRS, it really is "always on", that in itself is very sweet indeed. I'll be keeping my eyes open for any ROMs newer than 4.00.16 that are NOT T-Mobile. Don't use T-Mobile ROMs unless you have a T-Mobile and are comfortable with the process involved in reverting back.
My advice - DO IT! You won't look back.

Hi, I am from Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, just get a XDA 64MB, can some one teach me how to upgrade to WM2003? Where can I get the ROM? I get from Yorch, but the file only 150kb very strange.
Can someone provide some nice FTP or webpage with FULL VERSION Application available?
Get in touch: ICQ 73348100
Thank You.

I have OZONE PPC2003 ver 3.04.00 and radio ver 4.21.
What are the most up-to-date reliable versions now that can be upgraded using the SDROM method. If you have links to these ROMS please let me know also.
I would suggest a 4.00.05 based ROM from thisROMkitchen.

Because when I posted it 4.00.10 wasn't in the kitchen yet...
So is 4.00.10 as stable as 4.00.05 then ?
Also I have seen people saying they cannot get a signal when using Orange with this rom, anyone got any experience with that ?

Well, I'm not on Orange, so I wouldn't know, but they both work for me.
I don't easily envision provider-related differences in signal reception between PDA ROM versions, this would be more of a thing that would depend on RSU (Radio Stack) version in my mind.
As for upgrading from .05 to .11 (or 10 to 16), I would say the differences are pretty minimal, I still use 4.00.05 on the phone I actually use, and I see no real difference with the 4.00.11 on my experiment-phone.

No I haven't. But I must say my large 128 MB Sandisk is not often in there these day, I usually have an 8MB with the write-protect on in there because I often need to re-install something we're working on, and I don't want the automatic delete of the CAB files.
Rom update to 2003
 :?: Would you advise to upgrade from the developers rom to a kitcken cooked rom 2003? If so, version wm2003 .05 or .11 (I live in The Netherlands)
I tried it once but then my XDA, when turned off, did not react anymore to my on-switch-button, also at one time the divice told me that I had insufficient memory on my SD card, which had in fact still 180MB' left, saying it was locked. Eventually found the rom kitchen for the 17.03 version. And was lucky to be able to downgrade it again..Had to reinstall everything and had to format my SD card. What a bummer....
I reackon it was due to software faulty installation???
When using the wm .05 on your device, did you encounter such an event?
I miss the 2003 dual function of my speaker-button and the extra features on the mailer (listing contacts on tapping just a few letters) and the calender extension on the today sceen....
When backing up, installing the ROM wm2003, pending your advice, and recover.... should everything work as it will now?
Awaiting your responce...

UK 02 4.0.0.x PPC2003

Hi ya fellas.
I upgraded my XDA 02 UK pda to 4.00.05 and am fairly happy with its stability. A few probs with the backlight going off, but nothing much really. Windows Media 2003 is class.... encoding films with windows media codec 9 is a joy and they work every time...no codec conflictions, cache settings etc, and the quality is cool.
However, i wish to get a plain (i.e. No added cooked programs) ROM.
I could use Yorchs kitchen to cook up a plain 4.00.05 ROM again, but would rather give 4.0.0.16 ago. It's labled as a T-Mobile USA rom... I however have a UK o2 model xda. If i download the GSM 800/1800 changer utility with it, should it work ok?
Also, will this ROM update my radio stack. I'm currently running 4.21 (the official latest update for o2 uk xda's)... i dont mind if it does update it, but compatability wise, what odds am i running of it working ok?
Ive got an SD reader/writer and have a backup of my old rom just in case i need to go back via bootloader mode.
Thanks for listening
You XDA-Developers are good people (if a little to smart for my likeing
Tony Kett.
probably none since you're only updating ROM and not radio stack.
the cleanest method is obviously using the SD.
btw ... can we have your ROM to look at ?
Thanks
Decebal
my Rom (4.00.05) is just the one thats on the yorch site (with extra apps etc).
>probably none since you're only updating ROM and not radio stack.
- So if i update to 4.00.16 from yorch's site, theres no Radio stack upgrade? and the t-mobile USA version of this 4.00.16 (thats presented on the site) will only update my OS?
http://www.yorch.net/ - if you didnt know btw.
And a bloody good site it is.
So any other O2 UK XDA users upgraded to 4.00.16 or above? (4.00.21)?
I know your out there :!:
updating to v4.00.16 in the uk on a uk device will make you loose the ability to use orange/one2one in the xda as 1800mhz will be replaced with a none working 1900mhz
meaing your phone will have a 1800/900mhz radio but 1900/900mhz software which cant control the radio properly.
use v4.00.05 or v4.00.11(best option) so that you can use all uk networks.
4.00.11 ?
where can we get 4.00.11 ?
the rom kitchens :|
th 4.0.0.11 rom is not available on Yorch Kitchen.
It was on Jeff's Kitchen but the site is down.
Could some one upload the rom 4.0.0.11 on a server to share??
regards,
Yann
gazzaman2k... exactly the answer i was looking for. Cheers Mate.
Now to find a 4.00.11 Rom
Your right, yorch doesnt have that one. Anyone fancy hosting it.... or if possible, email me it at [email protected]
Cheers People,
Tony
So I take it that its not possible to change the 1900/900 to 1800/900 on those newer t-mobile roms (4.0016 & above)? No changer utility? Cant do it in the bootloader :?:
Dammit.
Just out of curiosity, what is the latest unofficial radio stack that people in the UK are using.
The 4.21 official one has been out for quite a while now, but ive seen no unofficial updates to this :?:
Tony
Ajektt, ther is an official update to the 4.21 Radio Stack it's the 4.21.X1
I have it installed, I don't see mutch difference, maybe a better signal mesure.
Doese some one have the 4.00.11 Rom?? I could host it if some one sends it.
Yann
actually with 4.00.21 comes 6.24.00 RSU.
Who wants it ... pm me ... or you can find it at yorch's site.
I need the 4.00.11 too.
Decebal
decebal, we are talking about o2 uk xda compatible radio stacks and os.
4.00.21 and 6.24 RSU Uses 1900/900 GSM ranges, not 1800/900 from what i've been told above in the forum.
Tony
will people pack it in emailing me for v4.00.11 yeah i have it but its cooked especially for my xda meaning the ecurity rom was cooked also  if i had a plain version id be happy to share but as i dont i wont share the version i got as the rom contains my name+details and phone numbers ect.... hence why i havent uploaded it to my webspace and shared
Thank you gazzaman2k!! We understand you can't share your cooked version.
Maybe Jeff still hase in his archive an uncooked 4.00.11 version of the rom?
Could Yorch include it in his kitchen??
Dose some one has a uncooked version or a cooked version of the 4.00.11 rom with out the security option?
fair enough gazza 8)
We need to harass Yorch to get it up on his superb kitchen. I think we have our work cut out though, because he's getting requests left, right and centre for things on there, which is pretty harsh on him (and his team)
If anyone does manage to get the nbf file, so i can dump it in an .exe install that would be great
for all those concerned about the ROMs on Yorch.net:
Well, for those who know me know that I am about to get married in 2 months, and I just moved with my fiancee to a new apartment. Before moving, I sold EVERYTHING, that includes my 3 desktops pc (including my main PC), and my desk. Since my the new apt, is not that big, I chose not to buy me a desktop, but a laptop, by the way, the laptop that I just bought is the HP pavillion zd7000 series custom made for me  , 3.06ghz of sheer power....arhhh, arhhhh, arhhh <----[trying to imitate Tim Allen]
Anyway, you problably know what that means, right, I've been without a home PC for the last 2 weeks, and I'm scheduled to recieve my new laptop by next week (hopefully), so no changes to the websites, and no changes, really, if you can get smart people to figure out the changes for me, I'm sure I could do them online or from my work computer, but in the meanwhile, I can't do anything......so stop harrasing me with the 4.00.11 rom already! 8) .

can we get the 4.00.11 plain rom out of the nb1 file (nbf?)?
If so we should then be able to cook another rom on yorch's site (i.e. a 4.00.05 one), build it as an .exe. Then once we have the exe, we should be able to drop the 4.00.11 file in to replace the 4.00.05 one that we cooked...no?
But can u extract stuff from nb1's?

Upgrade my XDA (1) to New 2003 Software

Somebody plz help. Got a XDA 1 (A Version), and have Rom Version 3.17.03 ENG, and Radio Version 4.21.00. I am on the Vodafone (UK) Network and want to upgrade phone to new 2003 software. Is it capable of being done yet, and if so, what files do i need (or a link plz). Many Many thanx to all those who reply. Regards, Ronnie[/b]
www.yorch.net and please scan around the forum before attemting anything that may kill your pda.
thanx for the reply, i have been to that site but not sure which files to use/download. Any info appreiated, thanx, Ronnie
1. Go to the kitchen option on the left side menu. Select the base for your new cooked ROM ... ex: 4.00.05, or 4.00.16 ... etc
2. You should see the top screen gauge in red. That means you have to check and uncheck some of the s/w contents untill it's green.
3. Select the EXE method and wait till it's "cooked" then down load the ROM file. Connect your XDA to your PC using the cradle and run the EXE and follow the instructions.
4. IMPORTANT: better to have a backup on SD card befor starting just in case.
Good luck ...
Thanx, will that work ok with the A model??
It worked for me. The difference between A and B is significant only for RSU upgrades not the ROM. However, official ROM upgrades do this check as well, but the kitchen doesn't .... clever developrs!!!
Is there any chance you could send me the 4.01.00 file, can't find it anywhere. I notice you have that update on yours, and radio vers 6.24.01, do you have that available too?? Will it be ok in the uk, or am i best just using the 4.00.05 one from the kitchen, and leaving my RSU with 4.21.00 vers.
Many thanx for all your help, Ronnie :?

One very important lesson, if you have a functioning RSU, do NOT mess up with it
Got it updated thanx, works very well, but cant get active sync to work now, downlaoded v 3.7.1 and still nothing. Any ideas?? Ronnie :x
what is your device info right now ?
what type of error you get with active sync and is it on the XDA or the PC ?
Hint: try another PC to see whether it's your XDA or the PC
Device Info is:-
Rom: 4.00.05 ENG
RUU: 4.21.00
Worked fine before updating Rom, not done anything different to pc, and now it just can't find the XDA...??
Not sure why.
Ronnie :?
Do these tests in order and check the result after each:
1. soft reset
2. reinstall active sync
3. another PC
4. hard reset
many thanx for teh advice, got it sorted now, had to re-install active-sync, now works a dream, and a lot faster too. Many many thanks to Biso007 for your help, this forum is COOL

It doesn't matter which ROM you have now. Just cook any 2003 ROM there and it will put you on WM2003 (unless your device is from T-Mobile, 4.00.05 is a best choice).

Changing ROMs problem...

I recently put a yorch.net ROM on my XDA, but then found a newer T-Mobile ROM from the forums, this one being from the Netherlands, now this is a 'safe' ROM for me to use, as I'm on t-mobile and same freq. band. But it won't upgrade, just fails :x is there any fix? I was looking at putting it onto the SD but its an .exe file and I'm stumped as to how I can flash it,...
Any ideas?

Using the RUU16006WWE_T-mobile_NL.exe file
It cannot make a change to my ROM that I've installed from yorch.net. What I want is a European (english) T-mobile ROM to change the yorch.net one. The upgrade just stops saying 'error' then suggest I reset device (which I did)
I'm using an XDA 1 (from O2) but on T-mobile network
does this make sense?

why do you need a 'safe' ROM ? ... what's your current ROM version and what type of issues you have ?
Btw, there is no such stable WM2003 yet ... even the latest of t-mobile 4.01.00 still have some bugs (minor tho)
In that case I'll stick with my current cooked rom!

Special Edition WM2003 Rom?

ok, i have installed the special edition rom for my xda1 and its a definate improvement over the original rom..
but i noticed that the window mobile 2003 upgrade is available from o2 and wondered whether it was significantly better than the special edition?

Just do it, upgrade it! I upgraded my Siemens SX56 with AT&T to 2003 and than cooked the rom from Yorch to unlock. By the way, it is a very good rom, thanks Yorch.
I did it with SD cards one of my XDA's, it worked perfect and quick: saved 2003 rom on one card, cooked Yorche's on another. The saving and installation was done through the bootloader as discribed in the proceedures in frequently asked questions section. The extracting and saving of Yorche's rom was done through OSImageTool in XDAtools into an SD card inserted in a USB card reader/writer (Inland 9 in 1 card Reader/Writer, $10 at Micro Center). The battery was fully charged on my SX56 and the flashing of rom's back and forth was done without the XDA being pluged to power unit. I tested the unlocking with a T-Mobile card, it recognised it, I made some phone calls with no problems, kept Yorch cooked rom for two days to get to know it and then flashed it back with my SD saved 2003 rom in my friends apartment just to show off how easy it is to flash the rom. it worked very well (it took about 5 minutes).
The 2nd SX56 was done all through ActiveSync with the XDA and card reader/writer pluged in and all synchronised (allscreen savers, power savers etc on PC and XDA OFF and battery charged). This XDA still had the original 2002 rom. The unlocking went very smooth. I did a full back up of the rom with ActiveSync. Since the cooked rom is PW10A1 and mine was PW10B1 I needed to get back my original rom to the XDA. The restore didn't work because it is a different partnership. So I flashed it back with my SD saved 2003 rom in a card reader/writer and OSImadeTool through ActiveSync. Everything was fine all the way to hard reset. I waited a minuteor so and did a hard reset and nothing happened, did it couple of times, nothing. It would not restart. I pressed the power botton and it went to bootloader mode. I did soft reset and the unit goes blank, dead. So I inserted the SD card with my 2003 rom into the XDA's memory slot and did the the bootloader mode, it took it, I flashed it. And now I have my 2nd SX56 with 2003 rom and the old radio stack ulocked working like a champ. I tasted with T-Mobile card and it works instantly, no configurations needed. Now I have to do a complete upgrade.
After all I like the new 2003 better but with some of the programs from Yorch Kitchen rom, which I installed and they work fine.
You, ladies and gentlemen, at XDA-Developers are the greatest thing that happened to the mobile devices community. I honor you and thank you. And Peter Poelman, you are the wizard, thank you.

check what you want or don't want and click Build ROM now, after it is done click Download. Before you build and download choose which file you want, exe or nb1. What ever you do backup your original rom preferably and safer to an SD card either through OSImageTools in XDATools and ActiveSync or the mode and the SD card pluged into your XDA
bootloader, and read the forum in details...

John (and any others out there),
I hope that I'm not asking something here that is covered in some faq on this board and I think I've read them all, but...
I see mention of a lot of versions. 4.00.21, 4.00.01, A30.05, A30.09 etc...
Is there someone that can tell us new guys a little more about these? IE, what is it exactly, 2003, 2002, beta, final, alpha?
I recently bought a Wallaby, and want very much to use the MS Voice Command. Therefore, I have a definate need for a 2003 rom. I have read and reread the forums here and have a good handle on how to flash my rom, but I'm so confused as to what the best (read most reliable) rom to install, as well what radio version would work with the given rom choice. I'm not necessarily asking for a recommendation, but perhaps a nudge in the write direction.
Sorry to dump on you in particular, nothing personal either mind you! It's just that I'd love to read a FAQ for the different versions and what might be expected from them I guess. (I hope like heck I'm making sense here!)
Thanks!
Larry
Hello,
Actually, the only difference between ROM versions is bug fixing with newer versions, but the only significant factor is whether it's PPC 2002 or WM 2003 ROM.
For upgrading, I may recommend TMO 4.01.00 (my personal preference) or A30.09 (with a minor sound issue). If you need to unlock your device you must start with PPC2002 3.17 ROM first then select any WM2003 later.
There is no connection between the ROM and RSU. However, the RSU is the most sensitive part in the XDA. If you have a functioning RSU ... do NOT touch it!!
Last, get a SD card and take a backup ... it's safer and you can use the SD to upgrade as well.
Good luck ...
This is to Larry,
All these replies take you through the right directions. I have two Siemens SX56 devices with AT&T Wireless, both PW10B1, Pocket PC2002 (Ver. 3.0.12039), ROM Ver. A.20.17 ENG, RADIO Ver. A.20.10, 32MB Rom.
1st one I upgraded the day AT&T and Siemens released the Mobile 2003 free upgrade. As much as people complained, cursed and were distroying there SX56 devices ( what I read on AT&T forums) I never had any problems, and as a matter of fact the more I used the device the better it became. I played with it for about two weeks and then I decided to unlock it. So I placed my SD card into the SX56, started the bootloader, downloaded the original 2003 Rom image, soft reset the device. I cooked the Special Edition Rom based on 3.17.03 O2 ROM in Yorch Kitchen, I built the nb1 file, I downloaded, extracted with WinZip, put it on another SD card, put the card in my SX56 device, started the bootloader, flashed it, did a hard reset. It didn't ask me if I wanted to unlock it but the XDAunlock program was there, I taped it, it asked me if I want to unlock, I did. I checked it with a T-Mobile sim card, made a phone call with no problem (I tested with the same card before and after, before asked me for the pin number and after it logged in to T-Mobile network). I used it with the Special Edition Rom for about a week to see which programs I liked and wanted to install on my device after I flash back to saved Mobile 2003 Rom. I flashed it back with the 2003 Rom image. I was on the road, away from power supply, my pc, usb ports etc. Just the unit with its battery charged up, the SD card and the bootloader. It took 5 minutes.
My 2nd SX56 device I did before the 2003 upgrade, the original 2002 still there, with ActiveSync, OSImageTool in XDATools, SD cards, card reader/writer and nb1 file. This time I overlooked the saving of the original 2002 Rom and it went directly into the flashing with the Special Edition Rom cooked in Yorch Kitchen. I unlocked it, tested with T-Mobile sim card and flashed it back with the the Mobile 2003 Rom image saved from my 1st SX56 device. It didn't want to wake up after the hard reset. It kept going to the bootloader mode. So I inserted the SD card into the SX56, started the bootloader , flashed it back again with Mobile 2003 Rom, did a hard reset. It worked. Now I have my 2nd SX56 with new mobile 2003 Rom but old, the original Radio Stack from Pocket PC 2002. It works fine. The working is like the Upgraded 2003 device. Maybe with the older radio Stack is more stable on the signal, and I don't know for sure because I did not tested, only what I read and the people having problems. My preference is a total upgrade, the Rom and the Radio Stack, I noticed that the audio quality is better with the total upgrade, specialy when on the speaker phone during a phone call.
What ever you do save the settings and the Rom images and you do the right PW10A1 or PW10B1 (the Special Edition Rom is PW10A1). Make sure all the screen savers, power savers, sleep modes etc. are turned off on both the PC and the XDA device.
Good luck, John

Thanks, guys!
I kind of knew that the differences were a matter of bug fixes, what I wasn't sure of is which is 2003 or 2002. I'm going to keep reading here of course. This is a fantastic site to be sure!
So, bottom line is I guess I'm just going to pick a couple of them and flash them and play with them so which works the best.
Many thanks again guys! Larry
Larry,
Yes, exactly. I forgot to say that my new rom is an AT&T- Siemens: ROM Ver. A.30.09 ENG, Radio Stack A.33.02. The previous Rom version had a band switch (900 for Europe or 1900 for Americas) in the Settings and under Phone but now with the new it has an auto configuration which I like better. I can always search the network manually. By accident I found that if you set it to manual and don't have a network specified or any signal strength showing as long as the phone is turned ON, I can still get on Internet.
Good luck, John
One final ?
Guys
Is there ANY version of the W2003 ROM that comes with the Wmodem (or similar) application ?
I first came to xda-developers when I was trying to use my Qtek as a modem....thereafter we saw the O2 and Qtek PPC (2002) upgrades that brought in the Wmodem utility.
That seems to have disappeared off the priority list for most people these days, though.
Cheers
Sands

IMHO, the new PCs/laptops with either built-in WiFi or WLAN functions or with equivalent PCMCIA cards, or even with SIM module inside, made it out of the wishlist
