UK- O2/Orange (PAYG), GSM or GPRS settings? - Networking

Does any bod know how i could connect to the internet using my uk PAYG sim cards, on O2 or Orange???
Please help me!!! Thanks for any help

hi.
I've got the o2 online tarrif (the one that gives 300 minutes of WAP and 300 text per month, just as long as you top up £10 every month)
At lunchtime today, i'm going to the o2 showroom in Manchester, where their datacentre is going to set up GPRS for me.
I'll write down what they do, and post it here this afternoon.
Hope this will help!

I am looking for orange gsm wap UK settings too!
Phillip. I have just posted on this topic. I have not been able to get orange (UK) to work on my xda. It dials up and connects but does not allow anything beyond this. So i cannot surf or check mail. Have you had any luck in getting settings? Ken.

Hey Beny, did you get the settings, can you post them as I am having atrocious problems with the O2 payg settings. Cheers.

GPRS On O2 UK, Y is it not working?

Hi all, I hope someone can help with this,
I have tried to all O2 using 100 (but this keeps getting disconnected automatically) so I have to call as 0845 number which uses my minutes + I was waiting 30 minutes to speak to someone and when i eventually did get through they hung up (I am well Pi***d off with o2). Anyhow
I want to connect to the net using GPRS, however no GPRS symbol is displayed and if i try, i get a message saying "No moden at above number" any help would be great.
Cheers

Right, couple of things to suggest.
Firstly (and I know this sounds stupid)....O2 have recently installed new call centre handling "things" which SHOULD route your call more efficiently but as they have been put in by IBM (also, responsible for more recent "good inovations" in O2) the bits aren't working v well! - trust me as I speak from experience and "from the horses mouth" - I work for them!
So chill when you do get through....the staff on the phones are getting major grief from customers, dealers and fellow staff members (mainly store staff) because it's taking ages......It's not their fault!!
Anyway, back to your problem.....you haven'y said whether you got a new connection or an upgrade.....if it's the latter did you ahve GPRS on your previous phone and did it work?
If it's a new connection then GPRS hasn't been provisioned for some reason (although it can tkae 48 hrs max from connection to go through), same goes if it was an upgrade and you never used GPRS on the old phone.
Give me the answeres to these questions and I'll give you my best guess!
Mike
Check settings
I use this site for settings:
http://www.filesaveas.com/index.html
I would also suggest that you check that GPRS has actually been enabled by O2 for you. I had problems with MMS not being enabled although I HAD asked for it.
Thanks Mike for your responce, and I promise not to go ape at your colleagues.
I have a new account with O2, connected today, however seems strange that it could take upto 48hrs to get GPRS active, I was recently with ORANGE and as soon as I activated the phone (a SPV) the GPRS was active there and then. Ah well I will wait the 48hrs and hopefully it will come active sometime soon.
As an O2 employee, you may be able to assist on this query. As a paymonthly customer on O2 400, I am supposted to call 100 from my XDAII to call CS, but when I do this I get disconnected automatically as if the number is dead, any ideas?
Many thanks for your help.
Matt
An update on the aboe. I have managed to sort this problem out, I did a soft reset and when rebooted I noticed the phone settings were on Germany, changed it to UK and GPRS works fine.
Matt
for anyone searching with this problem
MODEM NOT FOUND AT DIALED NUMBER
1. phone CS on 0845 and make sure GPRS is on! (APN provisioning for mobile web access (you can 'check' on the 100 number, but they can't turn it on for you)
2. 3.30pm is the 'switch over' time, so soft reboot after this time each day (
up to 24hrs) ...... phone again if still not on !
3. GERMANY is default if you go to MY XDA - connections. it will always be on Germany. but the wizzard should of set it to UK when you first set it
Do you have the correct settings for wap over gprs, email over gprs using O2 payg sim with free gprs pages and wap.
Is there any portal to get the settigs to the O2 phone directly?

cant get on the internet: Telfort simcard, Tmobile MDA2,help

I live in Holland. I have an Tmobile MDA2. It is simlock free. I have a contract with Telfort mobile phone company. (Telfort used to be O2 until O2 stopped operating in Holland). And I have my Telfort sim card in the MDA2.
But I can't get on the internet. And I cannot get settings from Telfort, (they say they don't support MDA's or Xda's anymore, and I can't get settings from Tmobile, unless I have a contract with them.
I'm stuck. I upgraded the MDA succesfully, to PPC 2003 SE with the "merged" upgrade from this site. Brilliant.
But I don't know how to get on the internet, or Email, etc.
Is there a way I can get on the internet?. Any settings or ideas please?
Don't know if this is too obvious, if you want to connect to the internet mobily (so not through ActiveSync) and not with a SD-WiFi card, you're probably referring to GPRS, wich uses your GSM antenna.
To be able to connect to a GPRS network, you need to have a GPRS account.
So, do you have a GPRS account with your Telfort account?
I'm also in the netherlands with a T-Mobile MDAII but use it with my T-Mobile acount that supports GPRS. It works fine (but is waaaay to expensive..)
Internet using MDAII
Just make a connection using Cellulair Line using the same ISP you use for your home-pc..
The speed is fair enough and will cost you the same as if you were just calling someone.
cellulair how?
thanks for your answer - I looked for Cellulair on google and nothing came up. Do you have more details or links so I can find it, please?
cellulair - its alright I've found the web site
cellulair - its alright I've found the web site - duh - it was obvious - www.cellulair.com. sorry to have bothered you - thanks again
Okay, 64,000 dollar question!
I have programmed my XDA to get on the internet using O2 GPRS for FREE (I have no contract and no credit) stay on the net 24/7!
Anyone know how to do this on a T-Mobile SIM?
Cheers
This forum rocks, such a great bunch of willing helpers
PS.
If you goto this link http://datasafe.port5.com at most you'll lose $4 but you might make a fortune! It's just a bit of fun guys

Hi
Could you send me the settings too.
I orginally put my vodafone sim in my MDA Compact but now have transfered my phone number to T-Mobile.
Can't get GPRS working (general.t-mobile.co.uk username: user)
Another down side with T-Mobile, apart from the lack of signal, is that when going abroad recently that they wanted £250 deposit if I wanted roaming enabled! Neither O2 nor Vodafone have ever asked this.
Also from what I can see they want £7.50 / MB gprs? Vodafone was only £2 / MB
Thanks
Jamie
check pm, also if u take out say a 3mb gprs bundle for 4/5 ukp, the charge is 2.30 there about per additional MB.

Hey guys
I'm looking for the HTC Magician T-Mobile UK settings too (as I've just upgraded my ROM to the imate 1.06 WWE), as it's a bit of a pain in the ass setting it up without guidance, also T-Mobile website has no info on the MDA Compact whatsoever.
Could someone PM me?

O2 PayAndGo MOVE TO ORANGE

Hi
Thought i would share my findings about O2 and payandgo sim cards. Several people have provided me with gprs settings all of which seem to work but don't fully then meschle (cheers) explained things.
O2 payandgo gprs access is restricted and will allow things like basic browsing but not msn email checking. i have phoned them to confirm this.
So if you are on O2 payandgo trying to get the best out of your wizard or indeed any xda then... sod then off and go for Orange!
orange have a simular deal but better. 10quid min topup, 300texts something else and 1meg gprs every month! if you add a gprs option it costs £4 from your monthly £10. so every month you would get 300textsa £6 to spend on calls and a stonking 5meg gprs.
the sims only cost £1 to order from the orange website, i have tested it all working getting your O2 number changed to orange is dead easy and only takes a week.
the hours i have spent messing with O2 gprs!!!!!! thought i would try to save other people from doing the same.
Get an Orange PayAndGo Sim card for free...
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/simevent/film
...and you have to enter a code at the bottom which is "film" without the quotes
Note: this is just to get the simcard for free! Everything else RJWebb has mentioned above regarding monthly topup still applies!
i did the same, moved from o2 to orange.
Im on the free text top up rate (which you should ask for as they dont automatically put you on it).
I always top up around £30 in the month, convert £8 to 8MB GPRS web access (2 x £4 chunks), i get 1000 free texts(for topping up £30) and 1MB free GPRS, making 9MB total
The other £22 is calls and extra texts (which I buy at £5 for 150 so 3p each)
Another thing to do if you are new is call up to get picture messaging to be activated and they give you 30 free pic messages for one month only.
Highly recommended
The only 'problem' i have is if i send or receive a picture message so connect to the orange mms server, I cannot access gprs web then until I do a soft reset. The same happens in reverse too, if I have been on the web/msn/whatever I cannot then send or receive a pic message until I do a soft reset. I didnt get this problem on o2 and havent been able to uncover the reason for this.
does anyone have a cab file for the orange gprs and mms settings? i'm gonna move to orange from o2 cheers

I couldnt get any one particular cab set of settings to work, i think i installed one and then just tweaked it until it 'happened'
Thanks for the cab file with a few changes it works
real internet access at last cheers guys!
R
o2 benefits
but swapping to orange u lose your 200 anytime any network min plus 1 meg download if 300 text
all costing me just 10.00, so I can't decide why 30.00 on pay as you go what benefit . one question if u swop your no. from a sim do both sims then have the same no.ie any one can phone me and catch me on either sim on one no.

Need some help with t-Mobile UK GPRS/3G Settings

Got myself an HTC Tytn a couple of days ago, found some config stuff on the internet, could connect with a big fat U at the top, but for the whole day now won't connect. Could someone share their T-mobile settings with me? I use a PAYG sim that has a £1 a day internet access, are the settings the same for payg as contract? Thanks in advance..
Re: t-Mobile UK GPRS/3G Settings same as Universals?

I've got a T-mobile VarioII but I know that there are some minor but significant differences between the 2 setups. Why not search on the 'Universal' forum for 'T-mobile Pay-s-u-go' settings which would include everything you need as the Universal is 3G also? Just a thought. Good luck.
good advice, thanks

I got a pay as you go sim from t-mobile last monday and it worked fine till early wednesday morning when it stopped working mid way through checking posts on here. Has not worked since and customer service have been unable to tell me why. It will not work in my web n walk pro data card either. I'm still trying to find out what's going on.
I will check on the settings but I've only found reference to the same connection settings.
My settings are...
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
User: user
Password: wap
Never needed anything else, no ports or proxys etc, just the above. Used them in my universal, wizard and no my tytn
For official t-mobile settings and setup guide see ...

Hope this helps.

Re: T-Mobile Wap, MMS and E-mail settings
Got it sorted!
Username should be: t-mobile
Password should be: tm
Payg sim started working straight away.
Also improves the times when the connection hangs on my data card as well.
Phil
I still can't connect (although it wasn't a problem a couple of days ago) I just get the following:
Connecting...
Locating...
Then it just hangs there. Anyone got any other ideas?

Mine can do this for upto a minute on each new connection. Once it eventually works mine will be fine for the remaining time of the connection.
Sean make sure you are using
general.t-mobile.uk NOT general.t-mobile.co.uk
The user and password I am using after converting my Orange 3100 is t-mobile and password.
Works fine for me.
Thanks Quilty, changing my password did the trick!
