A tale of woe! - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

So I see today that using XDArit to write the rom image to sd disk erases the disk, harrumph! I wondered where all my stuff went! No problem however because everything is backed up, I've been here before. I had a lot of trouble writing from my computer to the disk, and this may be of some use to a few of you, my laptop is a toshiba satellite 5200 801 with an internal sd card socket, it doesn't work with XDArit (either version) I had to get an adapter and stick it in a usb port before it was recognised.
So, all hunky-dory? No, somehow I'd got hold of a chinese rom!! (ppc20003) now I know what ch means! I think 'duh' is the word I'm looking for. Still, I'm a trier, finally got the right rom on the right card into my xda and working, start to load all my apps, tom tom city maps, route-planner etc. This takes some time I'm sure you know, five minutes later everything has gone! Blank disk! This has happened twice now and I'm starting to lose interest. The card is a SanDisk 256meg, any clues folks?

When you insert a non-formatted SD Card into your XDA, you usually get a 'Should the SD Card be formatted' message. Did you see this message? Or did you use a pre-formatted SD Card.
You could try formatting the card from Windows before inserting it into the XDA.

It was preformatted in windows, I've only had this problem since updating to ppc2003, I think I'll go back to the xda devs rom.

Why not try to format the card using the XDA? This may be a long and retarted way, but the best way I know to get an unformatted card is to write RAW data onto it. Write an already backed up NBx ROM file onto your SD Card using XDArit. Then put it in your XDA and you should get a prompt asking you if the card should be formatted. Click 'Yes' and have the XDA format the card. Then try installing your software and see if it works.

hello i got the same problem
now i wanne go back to the xda developers versie 1.2
and i try to run the exe but i got the messeges (can not open a com/usb port use device maneger on pc to make sure that the com/usb port is available and working)
when i put the xda in the cradle i can normaly sync whit outlook ect
somebody help please
sorry for my engliche

SD Card Read Problem

Thanks to a power failure (quite often occurence here) I am left with an XDA that did not complete a ROM update and it is stuck in limbo.
Ive created the nb1 on SD card as prescribed many times over on this forum using xdarit. my xda does just not seem to detect it. Maybe it needs to be in before i switch it on or ..?
My wallaby bootloader is 5.15.
Advice is appreciated. I'd just finished fixing a GSM Error problem which basically crippled the XDA performance wise (dust collector) and then this happened !
Damn :\
Incidently I run the diagnostics for the SD Card Test and it just sits there saying start test... again not too sure what to do there.
Thanks again
Michael

how you sd upgrade your xda
Thanks for your reply Rudegar
The post link u sent me was actually one of the many ''how-to's''i went through and still no luck.
I re-tried this one just in case im a cluster but no, didn't work.
When i turn the xda on and into the bootloader (soft reset and power buttons) i donot get the SD DOWNLOAD screen. it just waits for me to press whatever to get into GSM check, diagnostics or whatever.
Incidently my sd card is a sandisk 256. the card works fine with my qtek 7070 and nike mp3 player (for file storage).
I use xdarit 1 as everytime i try 1.2 i get errors.
Thanks again for your reply. Any otehr advice anyone?
Thanks
Michael
can your sdreader for your pc read the card ?
if it can then you dident flash the rom right to the sdcard
you have to use xdatools you cant just copy the nbf file to it
if it can be read by an sdreader and i think a 7070 then it's
not a card you can use to update your device
Wires Crossed :\
Sorry _ What I was trying to say (not very well) is that teh sd cards work fine when used as storage in my 7070 and mp3 player. never used an sd card in the xda before so i cant comment on that.
i use xdarit for the sd card creation and no the pc card reader cant see wots on the sd card when ive done that. ive never had any success with xdatools to be honest :/
Thanks again
Michael
sorry dident see you used xdarit
never tried it as it were replaced with OSImageTOOL in xdatools
which i never had any issues with
i made the scard this time with osimagetool and still no cigar
damn this is bad

256 MB SD card problem
MAB,
I had similar problem with my XDA and I have 64 MMC which worked to get the 5.17 bootloader patch loaded but would not work with the nbf1 file. I borrowed 64 MB SD Panasonic card and I could loaded but my problem was eventually solved by taking it to the Melbourne based ACCS tel 03 9348 5555 for only $45.
If you wish to persist on your on I think some people here reported problems with 256MB cards so you may need to organise one of the 64MB cards.
Good luck
Thanks for that. One thing I haven't tried yet is getting hold of another SD Card. I had read there were problems with the 256 ones on this forum so I will get onto that and give it a rip.
Failing that what's ACCS stand for then?
Thanks All
Michael

4 gb Card Trouble

I am having some trouble with my 4gb card in my XV6800. I have had it since January and been happily adding things to it and deleting them at will. Now I am having a problem with it however. I can add things to it through My Computer etc on windows and it shows up fine. But after a few hours when I go back into it on File Explorer on the phone any changes I have made are not in effect.
This includes both things that I added that are not there, and things that I have deleted that re-appear. Any ideas? It is not helping my wanting to install cabs and set up my UC config as you can imagine.
I know that they are transferring at some point because I m,anaged to install a cab from there last night, this morning, the original cab and folder is gone.
I'd suggest backing up everything currently on the card first, then formatting it using a card reader. Once the format completes, restore your files and see if your problems still exist.
P.S. Any microsd card <= 2gb will work for flashing. Anything > 2gb won't.

I agree with this... backup your storage card, and format it using software on your device such as CNETX FlashFormat... that seemed to do the trick when I was having issues related to the Storage Card
I was getting the error" file protected". I did lots of research, tried to format it in both my phone and laptop to no avail. I used diffrent software, nothing gave. Some people claim that putting clear tape on the SD adapter lock did the trick for them. Anyway, I contacted SD as my last resort, got an RMA and now I am awaiting a replacement. I did a back up and transferred all to 1 GB that I had as a back up.
FYI
I used SD Formatter V2.O and Hard disk Wipe tool (hddguru.com) , Format claimed to be successful but data was always there. This started after I installed TOMTOM maps on the card. Good luck man
there is a cab to enable sd cards over 2GB for the titan
i suggest some searching, if i come across it ill post the link
I have Tom Tom on my card, but then I have done from the start and I have only had the problems pretty recently. My computer wont read the card in the built in card reader in my computer, but it reads the new 1gb one fine.
Also, the phone does recognize it because I can play music off it, I just cannot add files to it or delete from it.
I have tried to format it with CNETX FlashFormat and it doesn't seem to work, everything is still on there as before.
Very annoying, I am going to contact SanDisk
Good idea man, it sounds like you have the same prob I do. Try putting tape on the protection switch on the adapter. It didn't work for me but who knows!

THE SDHC EncFiltLog file CORRUPTION SOLVED

PROBLEM:
Now, the problem all started when try to format the micro SDHC on the phone or on the PC with card reader.
Tried with differ format program also low level not worked.
DONT USE THESE!!! Waste of time!!!
SOLUTION:
So after doing some thinking about the situation, I figured that there was a problem with the card inserted and find the file EncFiltLog on it.
It is the WM 6.1 encription file. You can't delete, move files from or in to the SDHC.
The best way to solve this issue, as the hard-reset DOES NOTHING to fix this issue, would be to have windows hopefully find the connected device and format it. Here are the EASY steps which DO NOT involve using a dozen computers and has provided the same result EVERY time; which is a working on my 8gig memory in my HTC HD.
1. Connect the HD to the computer and select DISK DRIVE as the option on the on-screen popup on your phone. Don’t select ACTIVE SYNC. If you miss it, then go into your phone and press START>SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS TAB>USB to PC and select the bullet of DISK DRIVE and hit ok.
2. On your computer, (USING A WINDOWS XP MACHINE), go into your "My computer"
3. A window for will open with two columns.(If not, change the view to "Group") We are looking at the RIGHT side right now. In there is has three categories, and we are only focusing on ONE of them. LOOK for STORAGE which should be the center category.
4. Click with right to the desired "Storage device; A: ; D: E;", it will take a minute or two depending on your computer speed and environment to populate your hard drive and connected memory devices.
5. You will eventually see your PHONE internal storage listed. IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME BECAUSE YOUR PHONE INTERNAL STORAGE IS CORRUPTED!
***BE SURE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT IS IN FACT YOUR PHONE AND NOTHING SOMETHING ELSE LIKE YOUR MAIN HARD DRIVE OR SOME OTHER STORAGE DEVICE WITH IMPORTANT FILES ON THERE***
****I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU FORMAT THE WRONG DEVICE***
6. Choose format and let it format the drive. This should also take a few minutes. Select FAT32 and name is whatever you want! Let this finish COMPLETLY!
**Your almost done**
7. Now you can copy, anything you want on it, but if you put again in to the PDA then the
EncFiltLog will come on again. But at least you not have to throw away the card,
you can use it again.
8. Finally my last comment:
If you want to speed up the card (.cab installation, copy, move ...etc.....)
the best way after all this work listed above, you should made a BACKUP from all your PERSONALITIES and
make a HARD RESET.
After it should speed up all the programs and processions with the card.
If you done then one IMPORTANT THING!:
YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER TAP ON THE CARD ENCRIPTION IN THE SETTINGS,
NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!
Hope this helps you all out!!
BTW: I want to say thanks to XDA-FORUM (all people) to make my life easier
and to found the right gadgets to use, to play and enjoy it....
Wow - not bad at all for a first post!
Welcome to the forum!
Thanks for providing a solution!

Yesterday it happens for the second time that my SD-Card gets corrupt again, the first time it happens with a 8 Gb SDHC Sandisk and now with a 16 Gb.! After a hard-reset.Didn't know before I read this post that this could happen ever!??
And indeed I couldn't write or read on the card or format it again, even with a cardreader!
Both cards are useless about €120,- thrown away, gone
Didn't know before I read this post, that this is an WM 6.1 encription issue. Never used or even tap it.
Now I format another 8Gb like the way you describe here, i hope that when i need to do another hard-reset i can use the card again!
BTW, its a little bit strange to me that there are so little reaction from other users here about EncFiltLog problem?
I hope that there will come a solution in WM 6.1 to prevent that b!llsh!t.
Thanks for the great support, i hope it realy works!
Nice post
I have one more question:
What may happen when I delete this encryption file? Is it possible?
P.S. Sorry for my english :/
Hi Everyone!
The best way, if you purchase a new card, to FORMAT at first.
Then you put in to your phone and try not to teke it out any more.
If you want to use it as USB reader the as I write in my first post
START>SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS TAB>USB to PC and select the bullet of DISK DRIVE and hit ok .
In this case you can use the phone as a card reader.
It is speed up the file transfer vs. ACTIVESYNC.
If the card is not recognised ether way then,
because of the too much taking out - - put it back; went to faulty.
You can go back to the store for guarantee replacement.
The EncFiltLog is a problem only if you encrypted the card.
The solution to delete it and use as new card described in my first post.
If you put a new card in to the Phone then this file seem to be created by the OP system.
You can delete with format, but it will come back again and again.

Your right, the file is still there again!
But I have also a question about a next( hope not) hardreset on my device!
Is it better to format the SD-card (with USB on the device) before or after the hard-reset to save the further use of the card?
Because in my experience you have to start installing everything over again, because the data on the card was anyway corrupt and useless.
It is NOT recommended to use the MS Windows Format command to re-format any SDHC card - it will format them, of course, but with the wrong cluster size, slowing access speed down and possibly causing other problems.
I would suggest to always use a tool like Panasonic's SD Formatter when formating any kind of SD card. You can get it here: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html

Also good to know, but does it also prevent or solve that EncFiltLog problem?
Is there no registry tweak to turn off or delete that W 6.1 encryption option anyway?

No as far as I know.
Will creating a read-only, hidden folder called "EncFltLog.menc" on the card prevent this problem?

What do you mean? How do you do?
HI folks, glad to find some peeps who are suffering from the same problem...
The solution here seems not to work for me, as I hard-reset my TouchHD before I found out about that encryption ****up...
Is there any solution that allows you to reformat the card?
Not to mention that I NEVER touched that damn encryption option as I really never trust M$ that far with my data... seems it got me Pwned anyways...
Anyone ever tried to Write M$, tell them what a bunch of wacky Ho's they are and demand a new miniSD Card from them?
sorry for my language but atm I mad as hell as I just lost a 8GB and a 16GB sanDisk...
I experienced a lot of bc during all the yaers messing with M$ stuff but this ****up ins unbelievable...
I had the same problem with my 8gb sandisk.
I would like to add that I was able to retrieve most of my files from the memory card using EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional. You need to do the data recovery before attempting to reformat the card.
Hi guys sorry for messing around in your forum but this post is the closest solution to my problem. I cannot format or save anything to my 16gb sandisk card because of that bloody encryption file. Now the problem is that I'm a Kaiser user and I do not have disk mode in my phone, so has anyone successfully formatted their card without using disk mode?
one very quik question. Does this fix the problem for good? you can use the sdhc card with the phone or will it always end up with menc file?
card unreadable in one night
Yesterday, my sdhc 8gb card was working properly but in just one night something happened to it. In the morning, I came to know that it is not more being recognized by htc hd2. Every time I soft reset or hard reset the phone a message come up saying "Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable? this will permanently delete any files on the card." when I click no nothing happens and phone keeps on working and if I click yes then the card is formatted in just 1 second. I tried formatting the card myself from phone format tool (there is format card tool in tools section of the phone) but it is showing only 30.61 mb instead of 8gb.
After reading this thread, I think the problem is with EncFiltLog. Actually I backup my phone and card yesterday with sprite backup. I also backup EncFiltLog on my pc. Now after hard resetting the phone I delete the newly created EncFiltLog file by the fresh WM 6.5 installation after hard reset. I deleted that file from my pc by using the phone card storage as disk drive instead of activesync and simply shift+delete the file from removable storage in My computer. After that I copied all the phone card backup (including EncFiltLog - old one) on the freshly hard reset phone. Now all of sudden in just one night phone sdhc card is not able to recognized by phone.
Moral of the story: Never backup EncFiltLog. Keep the newly created EncFiltLog file by wm 6.5 after hard reset and copy your all files and folder from card backup to phone card (excluding EncFiltLog) after a hard reset. Don't ever overwrite the newly created EncFiltLog.menc file with old one from backup.
Reason: I think WM 6.5 pairs the newly created EncFiltLog with its some key on phone internal storage. Remember how encryption works? I am talking about public key and private key pairing. I think WM6.5 pairs one key stored in EncFiltLog with another key stored inside the phone interal storage which is itself freshly created after the hard reset but when we copy the old EncFiltLog from storage card backup to freshly hard reset phone storage card, those key pairs won't match anymore and windows mobile 6.5 simply locks up the card.
it is my own opinion.
One more clue
Ok guys, I've got one more clue after googling and reading other threads on this forum. May be HTC is supplying fake 8gb sdhc card with hd2.
I've came on that conclusion because yesterday there was more than 5 gb space left on my phone storage card. In the night RSS Hub software has updated all the feeds and stored those feeds on storage card (I've set feeds to be stored on storage card). I think something has been gone wrong there. May be the actual capacity of this fake storage cards in far less than what is written/claimed on the card (i.e. 8gb). In the night as soon as the RSS Hub stored feed on the card, it somehow corrupted the card FAT writting its data on sectors of the card where it should not be.
Hence the card is corrupted now just showing 30.61 mb instead of 8gb. There exists no solution for this situtation till now. I've sent mail to HTC regarding this on their customer support page. Let's see what would happen now. I suspect either HTC or my dealer would say that the storage card don't come under warranty. Let's see now. I will update the thread soon.
My problem is the same.....
after HSPL I faced "Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable?..." and after that I lost my mSD.
Format Storage Card didn't worked. it shows 30.61MB , Cluster Size: 0KB
also Clear Storage didn't worked...
System > Memory > Storage Card > Total storage card memory: Not installed
Is there any other way to fix this problem? because of my country, it is difficult to use HTC Service...

Problem problem problem Android lock my micro SD class 2 16gb

How could it be possible I always used my 2gb micro SD but last night I made the decision to say bye to winmo n started using my 16gb. ive got a sd problem too. i ever used the same 16gb class2 microsd card tu run android builds and store winmo and android data. last night ive tried to switch from darkstone to matcc android build. i reformatted the sd card, put the files on it (only android folder nothing else) and started android. everything was fine but i´ve got a bsod(radio 2.12.50_2 and german stock vodafone rom). then ive tried another android build but i got the same error(doesnt ever got bsod before). later android didn start at all(every build). then ive tried chuckys rom with matcc vers. 1.5 and ive got the bsod problem again. tried 2 other builds and now andriod doesnt start and i cant even connect my hd2 to my pc(bootloader doesnt connect too) but chucky rom boots correctly. everytime ive tried another build i reformatted my sd card to fat32. hope someone can help me, sorry for bad english.
i got this problem now too. android somehow writeprotected my sd card so i can't put files on or take files off anymore...it's basicallly made my 16gb card useless. can't format or anything. tried through windows mobile, pc, and android...nothing works. anybody know how to fix it?
Same thing happened to me. My class 2 16gb card is now locked and ive found no way to unlock it.
Not that I really liked that card anyway, but it was nice to have so much storage space.
thats no problem. On your adapter for your micro sd card, there is a lock on the side of it. Make sure that it is in the up position. Basically in the unlock position, then it wont be write protected.
No, your not understanding. Its not the physical lock on the adaptor, its a logical lock on the Micro SD itself.
The Micro SD card comes up as locked no matter what I use to try and format, or delete etc.
I've googled like mad trying to find a way to fix it even installing Ubuntu to see if another OS could do it, but everything fails.
Same here I came to a conclusion. That there are some files in the SD card....what was the last buid u were using before this happened...the best solution. For this should be with an android. Phone and astro file management explore the SD card...unlucky. me none of my friends have an android device

Ok
Sounds like corrupted sectors or damaged disk to me
Put the card into a windows pc and run scandisk on the card, make sure you check : fix errors automatically and scan for bad sectors

I had same problems (actually not in 2.3.3, and 2.3.4, then in older versions), and I was really crazy...i formatted my SD a million times, on a million different ways! The biggest stupidity is that I don't know what combination actually worked...
But I've noticed some things: never format, or copy larger amount of data from computer over the phones card reader! Put the card in PC-s card reader and use MiniTool Partition wizard, or something similar (I use Acronis Disk Director, and for me it's incomparably better then anything else), and then copy same data for your phone on that card (just that is not blank).
Another thing that might helped me (I'm not sure if it was coincidence, or it really helped): After format, I went first to recovery>mounts and storage>mount /sdcard(and mount /sd-ext if you have it). Then you can try mount USB storage in recovery and try to trasfer some data (to find out if it's really problem in phones card reader). If you transfer data successfully, reboot system and find out if you are pressing the thanks button, or throwing the phone directly into the wall!
(And have you tried to use another PC/card reader)
It's not scientifically nor empirically proved...but I don't know, you can try! I hope you'll succeed!
Thanks for your help but it turned out that the reader had a slightly bent joint. Bend it back and it works now!

Thanks everyone!
Thank you everyone for your help! The method above didn't work for long, so I found that it was a combination of position of reader on chip (back of phone, just move the whole reader, BE CAREFUL), the pins (as above) and the SD itself. I found that it was sometimes telling the TRUTH (WHAT???) when it was saying "SD Card damaged", what you do is copy the files to a PC using a sd reader and then format it, then put it back in again. Worked for me, although I had to format before copying files, so it was good that I had backed up my sd to pc just 1/2 a day before it all went wrong.
