PPC2003 ROM Device Authentication cracked... - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I just cracked the Device Authentication.
I was using our 'dumprom' script and noticed one of the files contained in the new ROM is called 'DevAuth.exe'. Given the window title 'Device Authentication' on the annoying box that told me I could not play with my new toy, I figured the two were related.
So.... If you replace the only occurence of 'DevAuth.exe" in the image with something else (I used "DevAuww.exe"), the ROM will start just fine.
Expect some screenshots soon (Carlos, can you help out?), but first impressions:
- Most importantly: they bought my favourite game 'Bubblets'. It's now called 'JawBreaker' and resides in games. No wonder the guy never got back to me when I asked if I could include the shareware version in the Special Edition ROM...
- Bluetooth in the control panel (ofcourse our device still doesn't have the hardware).
- Windows Media Player 9
- Lots of things have a slightly newer look
- No major functional improvements to phone and other apps that were immediately obvious to me.

So, Let's hope something running linux crack the rom for us.
By the way, is the rom "4.00.05" which provided by Source O2?
If yes, why it display 3.04 on the booting screen?

I guess these version numbers are just put in whoever builds that particular ROM image. They don't mean that much...

Here's the real question: Who will be kind enough to
convert this ROM to a usable one, preferably an .exe package, for the rest of the group. I don't have a Linux box handy today to do this, so anyone who does, please get on it! We are all waiting.....

Is it possible for me to convert the .nb1 file to .nbf without using the sd card as I don't have one? If so how is it done.

sorr forgot to mention I have access to a linux box just need the instructions on how to do it.

I don't know if this message is related to warez or not.
I just want to say if anyone got a cracked image and want to share with us, please upload to here:
ftp address : kellylau.uhome.net
login : kellylau password : xda
Any pic can upload to there too.
The downlaod address would be
http://kellylau.uhome.net/<Filename>
Since the site is quite busy now, it may not easy to log in.

XDA developer Peter Poelman,
excellent. I tried running dumprom.exe on the nb1 image and it crapped out. do i have to convert it to nbf? after u extract the rom how do i rebuild a new one? is it possible for you to post it somewhere to download it?
thanks
alex

PPC 2003 / Ozone comments
All you need to do is load the PPC2003PE.nb1 file in a hex editor and replace the only occurence of 'DevAuth.exe' with something else (e.g. 'DevAuww.exe'), and put the file on an SD with XDArit, use the bootloader to burn it and presto.
About Ozone/PPC2003: I'm seriously underwhelmed. Ofcourse the next version of the Special Edition ROM will use it as a base, but the functional differences between this version and what we have with e.g. O2's 4.17.03 ROM are really minimal. I smell a tick layer of hyped-up marketing covering a relatively minor upgrade here...
I suggest the playful among you give it a try, but if you can live without it for a little longer, stick to the Special Edition, and unless something is seriously more difficult than we think, we'll publish a patch to this to make it "Special Edition ROM v1.2", Real Soon Now.

response from O2
Just got this reply from O2 when I cheakily asked if i could have the latest ROM file:
************************************
"Hi
Unfortunately this download is only available to O2 partners under non-disclosure agreement for trial pruposes only
As soon as the trial is complete the ROM will be available to all of source O2
Thanks for your interest
regards
source O2"
************************************
Looks like we will be getting it for free then - unlike some companies who are charging silly fees for teh download.

Thanks for XDA-Developer again!
I patched the rom and writing it on the SD card now.
I think microsoft will charge for anyone provide the 2003 upgrade, I don't believe O2 will provide the new rom free. If the upgrade is free , it will be the greatest news for all XDA user.

As I said before: do not get your hopes up: this is a minor upgrade with a lot of marketing money thrown at it to make it look like a big thing.

It works!!!
After patching the ROM, I now have Pocket PC 2003 on my Qtek!!!
Thanks!
/Patrik

Hmm, so while I like playing with the latest stuff, it sounds like I should just wait for a 2003 SE ROM. I'm sure we'll have one to try really soon...

Back to the old ROM...
Everything seems to work fine with the new ROM, except that you can't change GPRS authentication method... My ISP uses PAP authentication and there is no way to change to that...
Well, well...
Maybe next ROM...
/Patrik

A little funny thing found on the new rom :
There is some unlisted program on the \windows folder
I tried pacman, it's GREAT ;-).
Also it provided DUAL VOLUME , you can set system / ring volume seprately.
However the rom is far from perfect.
I found 2 major problem.
1. The SIM Contacts is worse that the old SIM utility. It can do nothing every copy all contacts from the SIM to the device.
2. Wireless Modem is missing.
It seems it's still a develop version of rom.
Picture will be post soon.

[Q] HP iPaq hw6955 with WM6, seen it working but how?

Hello,
i have recently returned from an HP conference in LV and when at their mobile phone booth the guy there showing off the new phones from hp had a hw6955 (his personal phone) running WM6, now i have searched every where for some sort of documentation on how to do this and can not find any thing. Does any one know how to put an unofficial version (that works) of WM6 on an HP hw6955 could you please let me know.
Thanks for your help
hw6955 or hw6915
stupid question but i cant seem to find an answer:
1. What is the difference between the hw6955 and hw6915, are they the same but designed to be sold in different countries?
2. If they are the same what image for WM6 should i use for the hw6955?
Thanks
Maybe it was wisbar wm6 theme, not an original WM6 rom.

I did play with it and it defiantly was WM6, with a background info "HP beta"
then maybe we will get a WM6 update afterall
Universal install
has any one tried installing WM6 on this, perhaps one of the universal copies?

hw6915
i do have a copy of wm6 which is universal, if anyone wants to try it on there hw6915 then let m eknow and i'll upload it for you.....
Shure i will try,
But can some one please tell me the difference between the hw6915 and hw6955????
will that rom work on both?
hey,
i will try it on my ipaq 6945 please upload
A universal WM6 Rom will not work on the ipaq unless drivers for the unit have been added and the rom properly formatted for the unit. We dont even have a flashing utility for the 69XX series since they have not released a single update for them. :0
To answer your question, all 6900 devices are pretty much the same, just where it was released. For instance I have a 6915 which is a UK edition phone, the 6945 is the american version for cingular. If you can get a rom for WM6 from an HP 69xx .....I will try to load it
ok will upload the wm6 update on sunday for you too download....

Intriguing... Now this flash utility has been confirmed to work with ALL 69XX..? For example I have a cingular Branded 6925 and would like to unbrand to a 6945 standard rom. Is there a known working ROM that will not brick the 69XX, any CID locking issues.
This is were I see the problem, I own a 8125 and what they have that we don't is that they have everything documented as to what works and we do not.
What models....
CID locking issues? I dont even know if my 6925 has any protection mechanism for flashing an unbranded rom from the cingular stock one.
Simunlocking we can take care of with a service for 20 dollars, so no big deal there.
One baseline that we can all converge on would be an excellent start point.
Not one confirmed Rom that has been tested by the community and a utility bundled with such a rom. And if there is I will usually get a link to a link that has dead links in it, with no actual prof of concept.
After this baseline we could definitely begin modifying our phones. EVEN IF IS A KNOWN WORKING WM5 ROM..... All we have is a forum in one corner of the web and another that had one guy with an unconfirmed DUMP of a rom work. (or not) there is only two or three examples of this with dead links. (I felt exited when just know somebody showed me a universal flash utility that might work with it, and thank you) but i cannot find this utility or confirmations of what does work with it etc.
Once that community attitude spreads then everyone can contribute in a smal part to the advancements of this device. To me this is more of a hobby than just a phone and I am sure many here agree with me.
What I propose for now since we have a low volume of people on this forum is to make a single thread and share what we have with pros cons, verified unverified experience confirmations until we have what does work and what doesnt and we then move from there. (and uploads to such files for testing and verifications version numbers etc)
I left the Wizard because it has all been figured out already, and bought this device to see what could be done. I guess I am a sick individual. We need unification but maybe there are not to many of us to make this happen, or maybe since our devices were pricier than others we just dont want to be bothered. :-(
can not find my orig instaltion file 'just googled it and the is one you can try for your self
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ubl/
from what i recall you will also find a beta VER and a fully completed VER
just google it like now i just did
hope it will help you on your device 'it did on the 4700
EREZYAN I am in your debt......
Any confirmed flash success with this utility on 69XX devices?
Anybody know if a branded device has a form of CID Lock to prevent any attempt at installing a non-branded rom (69XX units). (Any actual confirmation of this Please chime in)
Are there roms available (if any), just straight dumps of the devices? Any confirmation of these dumps working with this utility or others. (69XX)
My plan is to collect as much information on these devices and put them in an understandable fashion for most. =more volunteers and more testing of these devices to move forward.
flashing
there's utility called sable_ruu.exe which should do the trick...
Please dont joke with me. You have increased happiness to all time highs..... AAHH can't find this anywhere.
Have you verified this as working... Any hints on finding this........ Any more information would be much appreciated.. Thank you

MoDaCo - Automatic Application Update Check (AppToDate)

Paul over at MoDaCo is starting to get some interest in a new application he's developing - basically it involves developers providing some XML with their installer that ties in with some similar XML on the applications' download page on their web server.
When a new version is released, the XML on the download page is updated, "AppToDate" will check the download server and you'll be able to see that a new version is available.......
AstraWare, Developer One and SK-Tools have already expressed an interest in making their software work with "AppToDate".......what are you waiting for!?!?!
I'll stop babbling, this is what Paul posted over at MoDaCo "AppToDate"
I have a dream! OK, so it's not quite as ground breaking as some other dreams of our time, but it's a dream none the less. It goes something like this...
I have a whole bunch of software on my device. Probably 15 apps at least. I also write software, which is downloaded by a fair few people, both commercial and free. I like to ensure that my software on my device is up to date with the latest versions, and it's a right pain in the ****. Not only that, I'd like my end users to have the latest versions installed to get the best possible experience... and to facilitate that I have to write a custom update checker into each of my applications. Fine for big apps, not great for quickly rustled up apps or tweaks.
But there could be another way.

What if you could have an application that lived on the device, that wasn't tied to any one application or vendor, that could check for updates for everything installed on your device? IMHO, that would be awesome. A dream. For such an approach to work, you'd need a few things...
Someone to write the update application, and to develop it. A community project perhaps?
The update application MUST be FREE for end users and developers
The update application MUST be easy for developers to plug in to
The application needs to be used by end users!
Freeware developers need to use the application!
Commercial developers need to use the application!
Now here comes the audience participation part - if you are a user, would you like to see such an application? If you are a developer - either freeware or commercial - would you like - and would you use - such an application? Make your voice heard here, and if there's an appetite for this, let's make it happen! I'll be updating this topic to list developers who would like to be involved.
Oh, I forgot to mention... I've basically written the update application! It's simple, has plenty of scope for future development, can update itself (of course) and in order to be used by a 3rd party, just needs an XML file dropped into the updater directory from your install CAB, and a current version XML on your server!
Beautiful! The response to this topic will determine how much time I spend on getting it production ready

Lend your support to this - with all the updates for various applications flying around, it's an almost impossible task to know if you're running the latest and greatest version - hopefully it will grow into a REALLY useful tool.
Thanks for listening
Mark.
This would also work well for new versions of everyone's favorite rom's....

Beta version suitable for app developers, ROM chefs and 'cabbers' now at http://apptodate.modaco.com
Free of course for developers AND end users, and I know at least a couple of chefs who are planning to cook it into the ROM (I'll be offering an OEM package early next week to supplement the existing CAB).
Come on over and get involved, let's get everyone supporting this!
P
Great work modaco..will look at it
WMWifiRouter will support this with the next release.
I have now releaed a version with the necessary configs to enable ROM update notifications.
ROM chefs: please contact me if you have any questions re: cooking into the ROM and notifying your users of updates!
Note that via the stats mechanism, you can watch how many people are checking for updates on your ROM!
P
Hey modaco..im cooking my ROM so i would like to use your wonderful app in it..kindly PM me the instructions or post it here..i would also like u tell me how to integrate stats mechansim
Check your PM!
P
Sounds like a great idea, but one slight problem I have with it is: if the app is not hosted on it's own website, what can be done?
I haven't had time to dig any deeper than reading this, although I'm now going to look at the "Official site" and see what info I can get.
All you need to be able to host is 1 XML file somewhere!
P
Now... How can I get this into a ROM?
- Get the CAB from here: http://www.modaco.com/content/AppToDate/267096/Download-AppToDate/
- Extract the AppToDate.exe
- Put AppToDate.exe in \Windows
- Create your ROM XML file (see below)
- Use initflashfiles to put your XML file in \Application Data\AppToDate
- Host your ROM file online in the URL you put in the XML
When you update your ROM, simply increment the version number in the online XML, and people will see the notification!
When you have this done, let me know and i'll give you your stats URL!
Here's what the XML (e.g. l3v5y.rom.1.xml) will look like:
Code:
<application>
<name>l3v5y's ROM</name>
<version>1.0</version>
<description>You are using the first release ROM version. Keep checking back for updates!</description>
<versionurl>http://www.mysite.com/apptodate/l3v5y.rom.xml</versionurl>
</application>
And when you have an update available, change the online version to:
Code:
<application>
<name>l3v5y's ROM</name>
<version>1.1</version>
<description>Current ROM version is available from http://www.mysite.com, and includes the following changes over v1.0....</description>
<versionurl>http://www.mysite.com/apptodate/l3v5y.rom.xml</versionurl>
</application>
Remember when building your ROM to grab apptodate as late as possible, as there are regular updates atm (altho, when you put it in ROM, it will still auto update itself anyway!)
Remember to load up your XML in IE on your PC to check it's correctly formed.
P
If you have CAB extensions to your ROM of course, it's a great way to keep those up to date for users too (and again, get some stats)
P
Just making sure the exe didn't need to Go somewhere special, I can get xmls to work thanks to UC provisioning! Does the updater itself need an XML ( could unpack the cab and see but it's too late for that timewise) ?
Who wants to host some xmls? Or maybe I should just get a site...
I'll see to that stuff tomorrow, or is that today?
Thanks for the standard and I hope it gets used lots 'cause it'll save me a lot of time!
Quick question: does the checking/downloading system work with FTP or just HTTP?
Just to remind you..anchillus was also working on a project related to Windows Updating..but i dnt know what happened to it....
AppToDate doesn't need it's own XML.
I imagine HTTP only is the best bet.
Get yourself a free account here and you'll be sorted: http://www.zymic.com/free-web-hosting/

Here's anichillus' post:

Which isn't really related per se. I like his idea tho, that would be cool!

I don't find nothing on HTC Europe
me neither ....
I can't find anything either.

No one is being funny, If you log onto e-club and check phone updates there should be a link for Touch Dual which takes you to this rom download. It is labelled Initial Mobile Windows ROM and is dated 21/02/08. I downloaded it but have not got round to trying it.
I have uploaded it to rapidshare here is the link if anyone wants to try it.

From the image it looks like the Radio ROM is newer but I'm using tom_condon's ROM anyway so all the other numbers are very different.
guys!
this is a simulare picture from a TI OMAP device (i think). HTC Nike doesnt use ExtROM!!!
please download it and look in the file name!
Just flashed this
Code:
ROM version: 1.31.456.09
ROM Date: 10/31/07
Radio version: 1.58.16.27
Protocol version: 25.61.30.03H
On another note what is TTY?
Mine does:

Radio: 1.58.16.27 is old! it's the same one I had in my previous Orange stock ROM!!!
Don't expect any significant changes but to those who have flashed this, notice anything new or improvements?

Weird. I wonder why mine are empty? I have tried on two different computers and with two different browsers (firefox and IE).

There for me too. Log in, support, other downloads and select touch plus.
Looks like a hot fix to a specific problem, not the screen patch we're waiting for.
i just checked again and do not have a new rom on other downloads.
weired .... the only thing different between us all is the serial number ... maybe it has something to do with it ... do not know ...

I dont see anything for rom updates; maybe because I am registered as HTC US and not Europe. There is a dead link in the HTC US for the Hot fix for abnormal Nike TouchFLO screen display and keyboard output problems patch but it works when you select the HTC Europe option.
Thanks

Installed the rom shared on the first page: so far works excellent
I have had no issues with this rom and the latest radio rom. I did notice I lost some alarm sounds that had previously been placed on the stock rom I had used but I dont see any noticable improvement or lag with this rom.
The screen lag related to the lack of drivers seems to be better; dont know if they have improved on this. I know they didnt fix the driver issue but scrolling seems better than I can previously recall. Anyone else experience this. Could be that the Touch Flo Abnormal Hotfix was included in this rom.
I liked Tom Condon's rom and appreciate all his work but I think this rom is more responsive; I do miss the threaded SMS, One Note, and the customization tools already in place. Hopefully HTC will launch the 6.1 rom for the Niki. I look forward to his next release.

MWg AtomV Quick Menu v1.0

I found this in MWg's official website, however, it can only be installed on the latest MWg's Atom V.
What a shame that, even for my newly bought MWg Atom Life (not O2 XDA Atom Life) still no luck installing it.
Can someone help bypassing this installation barrier? So more people can enjoy this app.

What a shame that, even for my newly bought MWg Atom Life (not O2 XDA Atom Life) still no luck installing it.
Can someone help bypassing this installation barrier? So more people can enjoy this app.
Million thanks!!

I've tried "un-cabbing" the cab file because I thought the lock was in the setup only but it is also included in the body of the main exe file. As I don't know how to reverse engineer an exe file and I don't know either which compiler was used to create the program, i am stuck!
someone pls make a fix version for all ppc. it looks very good.
very nice theme long to try it out.!!

good log but can't install on my wizard !
Is anyone working on cracking this thing? I would love to give it a try.
I have managed to get all the files out, and I have the today plugin linked on my today screen, but the actual exe is hardcoded to only install on the AtomV and so I get an error whenever I try to run it...

anyways to repack it to new cab files to install for all ppc?
read that post again would ya ?
he said that the exe is hardcoded against the atom v, it can't be re-cabbed to install and run on another device, simple as that.

That's true, but I wonder if I can change the device ID in the registry to trick it into thinking my prophets an AtomV. I would do it now, but I'm adding some finishing touches to my latest ROM and so I can't. But maybe later today I will try.

I think the check it's done on /windows/gbcCELib_Exe.exe or in /windows/gbcCELib.dll (it install these two files). I have viewed these two with hex editor, and it's what I think, but my knowledge is very poor.
The maker of this soft are Brogent, but in this web, nothing to try.
I would try this soft, it resembles pointui+spbmobile shell.
Please, try to bypass the pda model check.

I'm not able to download from work, but you can download from
Code:
http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=64163
two versions, the original version, with pda check to install, and the version without the pda check. If you can't download, I can send you the files when I arrives at home.
Thanks to try.

(Sept. 1st 2009) NEW HTC CHome Plugins & Apps from T-Mobile Dash 3G (TEST RELEASED)

(Sept. 1st 2009) NEW HTC CHome Plugins & Apps from T-Mobile Dash 3G (TEST RELEASED)
Hello, I just downloaded the new T-Mobile ROM from here. I noticed they made a few new CHome aka Titanium Plugin as well as might have updated some.
I managed to extract the ROM, but I am not the greatest at doing so. When I did, everything is in one Folder. I am wondering if someone more skilled at ROM extraction would mind extracting this ROM in Packages so it'd be easier to pull out what I want/need. Here's a list of the new plugins in that ROM btw. Well at least what I'm guessing from the CPR layouts.
MyWeather
HTCMyFaves
HTCVOICEMAIL
HTCWeather
HTCSMSMMS
HTCMusic
HTCSprintMusic
HTCPIEFAVORITE
MyPageWithChild
HTCEMAIL
Also, the MyFaves app for T-Mobile USA user has been completely redone so I'd like to work on porting it to see what changed since it's been quite some time since the oirginal we have.
NOTE: It only has a Landscape Flash. Will probably need a skill Flash maker to convert the Landscape one to Portrait.
Got HTC Email/SMS & MMS/IE Favorites/Audio Manager/Sprint Music working. They still need some layout tweaking as Sliding Panels has a 112 Focus Panel Height & Titanium uses a 82 Focus Panel Height. All file exist for HTC Weather, but for some reason it won't show & the app won't update when city is selected. Maybe it's just PPC incompatable. Still need Package for HTC MyFaves (T-Mobile app). Releasing as is for anyone who wants to take this over. Don't have time to mess with Layouts & HTC Weather. Really just looking for HTC MyFaves myself.

It is a WM 6.1 Standard ROM. Smartphones have had CHome since 6.1. PPC's only just got it in 6.5. The plugins still work for us though.
EDIT: Can you upload Package Builder here. I tried the link & registered but it keeps telling me I don't have permission & I even completed activation via e-mail link

Yes, I registered & click activation link in the e-mail, but still not seeing any posts. Any ideas as to why? does it take time to update completed actvitation maybe?
Ok, so package builder 3 didn't seem to do anything other than move the files. Maybe I should mention when i extracted everything I am not even getting any .reg or .rgu files. I took the .nbh file & extracted it to .nb files & than extract the os .nb file that I got & got a huge SYS folder. Inside the SYS folder there are 3 more folder, the main one being DASH3G which contains every dll/image/app/etc that appears to come from the \Windows directory of the ROM.
Hey friend, I am dowloading the ROM now, I will extract and package everything up for you and send you the download link in a little while!

Cool, thanks man! Would try myself, but this extraction/dumping/package stuff is just a bit over my head atm & too much on my plate as it is to learn atm. So, greatly appreciated!
Eagerly waiting for extraction! Planning to release non-OEM too? Would like to try some new titanium plugins on my 23037...
Thanks everyone!
Incase someone wants to work on the flash for MyFaves. Here's the old Flash & New Flash. Looks like the new one is missing touch support (Old version when loaded into internet broswer would show Link Mouse Curse over Hotspots, New version doesn't do that) & there's no Portrait SWF either.
My5_*.swf is the old file, myFaves_*.swf is the new.
NOTE: Might be worth while to check into the Rodium aka TP2 to see if that is a better version of MyFaves to use & if it's even compatable as this version is deisgned to write to CHome Registries.
Ran into a snag, the ROM at that link has been dumped and rebuilt again already, so it is protected and when I try to dump it it will not dump properly lol! So I am lookin gfor the OEM RUU_Maple_HTC_signed.exe. As soom as I find it I will dump it and get everything ready for you! Shouldnt be to long!

http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=5450 this looks like a video of the different panels in action. Might help you figure out what you want/need (or can already get) while a stock rom is found.
you all do realize that this device is not a touch screen device
