There's something about these Radio Stack Upgrades that's not right. We see many messages a week from people upgrading their Radios and being left with non-functional units. We advise against upgrading the Radio Stack unless you're upgrading with a version that's fixing some known issue that is affecting you. In other words: if your GSM works, we presently advise against fixing it.
If i run the exe that has beed kindly created is there any chance of screwing up my device again!...

The OS ROM on the other hand is much harder to screw up (although we managed, but only once, and for reasons of our own stupidity). You should be safe running Jeff's exe, and you'll be happy afterwards...

It seems to me that there are more than a few who have made the GSM rom upgrade oops. Someone should be kind and make a dump of their GSM for us foolish saps who made that poor call and found this information afterwords. I have found ways to bypass the GSM startup if you get stuck in the never ending "Updating Rom" and "Error, unable to update" horror!

Ok, figured out my own solution to this problem, without needing to send it in to T-Mobile!
1) Here is what you do, you go to ATT's site and download their upgrade for their SX56.
(if you have an ATT XDA already you can skip this step)
2) run the up date than let it error out saying you don't have the right rom version or what ever.
3) Go into your "Program Files" directory and than "SX56 upgrade utility" directory.
4) Copy "adaptRom.exe" and "Start.bat" from the "XDA-developers-SER-v11.exe" file into this directory and run start
5) Run "upgrade.exe" now and it should install fine and install an american GSM and ATT's OS.
Works great I must admit!
Note: If you want to keep T-Mobile's OS, get "XDArit.exe" and back up the CE os as they instruct on their page for it. Than after you've done the above installation, simply copy the OS back over.

Re: GSM Rom upgrade OOPS!
I've got all the files you mention, and am ready to change my T-Mobile PPCPE to an ATT device. I've already cancelled T-Mobile service, and signed up with ATT, so I have a working ATT SIM card. During the procedure you outline, do I just leave the SIM card out, then after upgrade is finished, install ATT SIM card? just checking - Thanks in advance.

XDAunlock: Unlocking without serial cable

XDAunlock needs no serial cable
You can now use XDAunlock to remove the SIMlock from phones with the latest ROMs (Qtek or XDA-developers Special Edition ROM).
Users that install the Special Edition ROM do not need to download since XDAunlock is included and ran at cold-boot. Users of Qtek 3.16.52 ROM click here.
Using XDAunlock you can also view the SIMlock code or re-lock your phone (using command-line arguments).
[I attached the EXE for easy downloading. Works on any 3.x ROM that has wmodem.exe]
Excellent work! True brilliance
I'll be testing this real soon. All I have to do is find a unix box....or will linux do aswell?
Chiani
a windows box with http://www.cygwin.com/ unix tools will do too.
make sure you select perl and bash in the cygwin setup tool.
xda unlock
i have recently downloaded the xdaunlock.exe and transfered it to my xda but an error occured.
the error message was: "error getting unlock code"
could this happen because i have the german version or where can i find a data which is working on my german xda.
Or is it enough only to change the language
It says on the page: XDAunlock only works if you upgrade to a ROM which also has the Wireless Modem feature. Presently, this is either the new O2 English ROM, the latest Qtek ROM, or our own XDA-developers ROM, of shich a new version is due out later today. Given the number of irritating issues some people are experiencing, you may want to wait for the new one, which will fix all these issues.
Special Edition ROM now official unlocking method
I've updated the Manipulator page to say that we no longer advise anyone to download The Manipulator unless they already have a serial cable and need to reset call counters or change IMEI on pre 4.20 phones.
Installing the Special Edition ROM is the preferred method for unlocking from now on. Sell your XDA serial cable company stocks today.
Just use this excellent proggy with my XDA which was locked to O2 took 2 seconds to unlock with just this proggy and its now unlocked to all networks, GREAT JOB Guys thx

Great, I love detailed error reports.
Avri: I think the moderator of your forum has already contacted us. If you're the same person, you probably have 'no signal', right?
If so: did you mess with the 'GSM band' tool under 'Programs'? If you did, just set it 900/1800, possibly soft-reset your phone afterwards (stick the stylus in the big hole on the bottom left) and you should be fine. Let us know if that is not it, or if you're a different person altogether. But please, please, please, do not come back saying:
It still doesn't work. Please help.

If the provider you're trying to connect to is on 1800, chances are things will not work. Major consensus narrative at this time is that at least the filtering for this phone is not set to a wide-enough range to make it a true tri-band phone, even if it might work in some sporadic cases.

simple onlocking process
WARNING THICKO ALERT!!. I am referring to myself here I have looked at the various postings on unlocking but cant seem to get my head round what is required to unlock my XDA. I have just received a second hand O2 locked 32MB XDA it came with two USB cradles and all the other stuff. Can anyone please tell me is there a simple way to have it unlocked without sending it off. There are many references to the unlocking progam on here but no direct link to it. I would like to be sure that the unlocking process is simple and relativley risk free can anyone offer any help maybe an already created ROM or whatever it is that is required? If the file is largish please send it to [email protected] this is my broadband email address and can accept large files.
Cheers Sean
*nix (or cygwin) is needed when you want to build your own rom, using our mkrom tools.
you can find xdaunlock here. you will need a relatively new rom ( which includes wmodem.exe ) to run it. either 3.17 qtek, or our own Special edition ROM
Re: Thicko Alert: I managed to download the unlocling software and hey presto its unlocked.!!So yes the thicko was apt all I had to do was read the item fully.
Now for another question. Can anyone suggest a suitable method of connecting to the net using my unlocked xda. I dont need to worry about phone costs (long story) so as long as the dial up is a UK one with no out of country prefixes I should be able to get online free?
Unlocking Siemens SX56 ATT US
I have an At&t siemens sx56 that Im trying to get to work on vodaphone in Germany. I've tried the XDA Unlock program, but it won't work because I don't have the latest ROM. I'm not sure what to do from here, especially because I use it with a mac and the PocketMac software, so I can't use a serial cable. Any suggestions?

Always on line for xda 1??

Any body knows for xda 1, you can keep checking new mail arrival through GPRS?
I heard people using xda 2 can do that. But is there any chance xda 1 can do the same thing?
Actually, when u do the setting for POP account, it ask u to set how many minutes to check for new messages. But it never work because the GPRS will close automatically.
Thanks very much. :?
Sure it can be done!
Take a look at:
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html
BTW the above is one of many!
also where are you located?

I am using the most updated PPC2002 version already. (3.20.06 ROM and 4.21 Radio)
Do u mean I have to upgrade to PPC2003?
I doubt that because they are not very stable for me to use in Hong Kong so far from other guy's comments in this website.
Thanks very much.

Since you're already running the latest upgrade its suppose to work but since it doesn't I would have to say that your always-on settings are at fault. So go to Start, Settings, Connections and make sure that its set to not disconnect.
HTH
Are you sure that it is also for xda1 ?
I can't locate that "not disconnect" setting.
Please clarify.

It should say some thing like this:
GPRS connection to remain active once the device enters power save mode.
At least it does on the PPC 2002 latest AT&T ROM and the XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2. (which is bases on the O2 3.17.03 ROM).
HTH
That's really strange for my O2 xda!
I only found a setting called GPRS Suspend Mode setting.
It said,
When you are in power-saving mode, do you want to:
- Keep GPRS connection
- End GPRS connection
I clicked on the first one.
Then I close it, and connect to GPRS.
Just for a while, the connection ends by itself.
Any thought?
Thanks a lot again.
Yeap thats the correct setting and the same one I'm speaking of!
I read a lot of bad reports about the 4.21 radio stack so it might be at fault.
Maybe you should think about upgrading to the Qtec radio stack, heard nothing but good reports on that one.
The Qtek 1010 Radio Stack Upgrade can be found at:
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads.php?region=Asia Pacific
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
BTW read the WARNING.
BTW do you have a URL for that newer o2 ROM, I'd like to install it and see if it does the same for me/
HTH
Here it is.
http://www.myxda.com/web/template/SoftwareUpgradeIntroduction.vm
BTW, I am a bit nervous to install the radio file cause I have bad experience that almost kill my phone.
Is it really okay just to install the radio file?

Unable to download, it kept asking for a IMEI.
You wouldn't happen to have the direct download link would you?
Oh! I didn't realize that...sorry.
I am still a bit nervous for upgrading (or is it actually downgrading) to the i-mat ROM.
If it is downgrading, I will definitely not try that...
Hi Qman,
I just notice that Yorch.net got the 3.20.06 ROM.
Also they have the 4.00.21 ROM (pre-release T-Mobile version). Is it for the US market only?
Chris
hi; Are you sure that Yorch.net got the 3.20.06 ROM??? Can't find it. I have downgraded my XDA yesterday from the kitchen wm2003 because of bugs to kitchen 2002 but it says 3.17.03 and not the one you mention???!!!
Hey,
That's not from the "kitchen". It's from the "upgrade" just under "kitchen". Check it out again and you will find it.
Anybody knows that 4.00.21 is good for o2 xda?
Chris
hmmm, currently I am using it
so far so good but there is one major BUT for me - most possibly that version makes wipe out my 256MB SD card every up to 48 hours
for me it is a major .... item
regards,
monika
That's terrible. What about the GPRS and phone reception?
To be honest, I won't use it if it will wipe off the sd contents every 2 days.
Have you tried to burn again?
so far GPRS is not working ....
but that is due local GSM provider that has some complicates setup as to make GPRS to work, phone recption is ok ... I am living in area where virtually all GSM phones had reception problems (i.e. majority of nokia phones), although in a city center it is perfect ....
just for you to know ... I have received a link from one of the group members for the most recent update - look there for details :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4556&highlight=4+01+00
regards, monika
Thanks very much for your reply.
But I think that Upgrade exe file is for US only cause that include the radio upgrade as well.
So, are you able to downgrade your 4.00.21 easily?
I am not sure whether its worth to downgrade your device to 3.20.06 to see whether its a real problem with SD card. And to upgrade it to 4.00.21 again to verify it. It may happen only at some occasion as you know electronic device can never guarrentee functioning 100%.
Hope you can fix your device.
Cheers

Which Radiostack are you using?
4.21.00. could be?
Not a good idea to use .exe method to upgrade, use the SD card method instead. You may need to manually change the radio to the local band by going into the bootloader and changing it to whatever it's not on now. One of the upgrades I did stopped the phone component totally and brought everything else to a standstill, but it was ten second fix.
Thanks for the new kitchen, it gives another option where there were few.
thanks, i just changed in the bootloader into GSM 900/1800. now it works, i just hope it doesn't only use the 900 and 1900(which i have no use in Europe). because in my device info it says B1 model. Maybe it's just because of the t-mobile upgrade, but doesn't REALLY change it.
let's hope.
thanks anyway.

No, it's all sweet now. I think the configuration in the O/S changes the device configuration, so the bootloader option and the O/S option both mirror one another. As long as it works you're fine.

Oh, nevermind, nobody post their personal phone number or friend's phone numbers... there's an easy way  .
T-Mobile has an email service attached to their customer's mobile phone numbers, so it's [email protected]. So all you need to do is search google for @tmomail.net and you will find a lucky customer who has revealed their legit mobile phone number for your use .

My BootLoader is v6.22 and it seems that even with a borrowed SD card I cannot transfer any cooked (or original) ROM images after putting this 4.01.00 ENG T-Mobile ROM over the original - apparently I have to downgrade the BootLoader or something.
Does anyone know if this will work via ActiveSync with my BootLoader and current ROM version?
Thanks...

The thread you point to says "For users with Wallaby Bootloader 5.17 version" - does this mean that you followed these instructions with a 6.22 BootLoader and it worked? If so, I'll grab another SD card and try again.
I believe it works the same for 6.22, but sorry I cannot be certain. I'm sure I've read somewhere where people have done it.
Thanks for the information - I'll keep digging around and see what I can find out. If I make any discoveries I'll post them in the forum, as I'm guessing there are many users out there in the same boat.

WM2003

I was looking at the website for "Traffic-I". This is a subscription system for traffic info (and a sort of GPS ?)
The free trial refers to XDA2 not XDA1. I assume that is because the XDA2 has W2003 0n as standard?
Is it possible to upgrade my O/S to 2003. I'm not sure what version i have as i bought mine used.
Thanks

Yes you can do it my recommendation persists just on upgrading the RUU not the RSU, there's a lots of threads posting how to upgrade to WM2003, search, read more and learn
Thanks for the tips. I assume then that upgrading the RUU only, will allow all Wm2003 programs to work on my device. This upgrade is reversible if the threads regarding original back ups are followed?

Yes what you need is upgrading the RUU. It will allow all wm2003 to work on ur unit, thus you could back up as well your original default rom before installing the one that you'll cook
Ok thanks for that. I'l llook up how to back up old ROM first then get my oven gloves on and start cooking
Where Can I Download ROM WM2003
i try up grade to wm2003 T-Mobile 4.00.21 but i cant do cause i have Error message my machine use PW10A1, that version just for PW10B1..
So how can i get version for my machine??
Now i use :
ROM. 3.20.06
RS 4.01.
4.00.21 is very outdated ... try 4.01.16 and don't worry about the version as long as you do NOT touch the RSU part

I've had to stop using my XDA for the moment. It's a great piece of kit but the incoming signal quality is quite poor (Compared to a normal mobile) I've missed several calls that have gone straight to my answerphone when i normally never miss any. There are some threads about signal quality but shouldnt this be built in from new as being totaly reliable. Any comments appreciated.
RSU flashing might help ... but it's VERY risky

Yes point taken on that!. To be quite honest the RUU part of the XDA (The programs etc) work really well and i'm not too bothered about any mods there. I'ts just that i use it for work and i can't really afford to miss calls and not being an expert in these things i find it hard to accept that the incoming signal quality is dependant on what sort of RUU software you have.
I suppose that as i'm not using it at all, and upgrading is risky but recoverable? and if it was out of action temporarily whilst a software failure was being put right then this would not be a problem for me. What i would worry about is if it all went belly up would i be able to get help on restoring it back to it's former glory?

recovering failed RSU flashing is a very tough process, and might not work as well ... you have to be very careful.
As a matter of fact, I 've done many RSU flashing before and all went OK ... but I know about many horrible stories about dead devices that can't be repaired except by h/w replacement.
If you can't really use it, it's ok to go for RSU flashing but pick the right RSU upgrade ... and stay away from O2 RSU 4.21
OK Biso007 i think you have convinced me. I think i will reluctantly sell the XDA (Someone will get a bargain as it has TT3 and maps on it) and wait a little while and see what else comes up.
Cheers
Doug
