XDA or HP 928? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I'm going to buy a pda phone, but I have not yet dediced between the XDA and the HP Jornada 928.
What do you suggest me?
I live in Italy and both phones are not sold here, so I have to buy it by Internet (expansys or ebay, etc...) SIM unlocked or SIM locked. If SIM locked I'll then have to unlock it for my dual band Italy operator (WIND).
For example, can I buy a O2 XDA in Germany and then unlock it and upgrade it to english language (or, in the future, in Italian)?
Many PDA (without phone) have pocket pc Italian OS. Why is not possible to upgrade a XDA to that OS?
I have downloaded from Microsoft the suite to build windows CE. NET platforms, including phone capabilities. Is it possible to create my own platform and download it in the XDA?
Thanks to everyone.

HP Jornada 928?????
HP Jornada 928  ? Wasn't the HP Jornada 928 discontinued? Where can you still buy a HP Jornada 928?

I can't get a 928 to use in the US, but from everything I have seen that is the far better device of the two. I had a 568 which was the best PPC I've ever used. The 928 is pretty much a 568 with a phone added.

on ebay
you can find it on ebay. They are still selling it.
Any idea about the dutch XDA and the other questions I posted?
Do you know anything about a "manipulator" for the hp 928?

anon
xda - it has it's niggles, but at least it flippin' works!
The end user support from O2 ain't all that bad, either. Yes yes yes, I know what you're thinking, but actually they're pretty darn good.

pratically!
Yes, but have somebody here tried the hp 928? Have somebody tried to unlock it or to upgrade it?
And again, is it simple (or at least possible) to upgrade to an english language a O2 XDA bought from Germany?

Language can be changed...
I have never heard of 928 (?), maybe they never sold it here, but I would choose XDA definitely... What if you break your display? What if something corrodes? Something breaks? Nobody will be able to repair it, no warranties, no spare parts

HEEEELP !! XDA II with vodafone in uk anyone?

Hi,
Thinking of purchasing XDA II. Will put my existing sim from my Nokia 6310i into XDAII, will it work?
Also, is it any good?
It will only work if O2 has supplied the unlatching code, if it is unlatched then your Vodafone sim will work fine.
Thanks mate,
Can i buy it anywhere else apart from O2?
I have seen 30 units sold on ebay by one guy at £399 each, I saw another go for £360, might be worth looking there.
i bought mine from a bancrupt stock for £200! used the program (xda2unlock-setup-v2.2.exe) to unlock it to any network, upgraded to WM2003SE created a custom Extended Rom, and Set up MMS Messaging all with info off this site! Ive now sold my nokia 6230 and my old hp ipaq and i'm currently £50 up on the deal !!

Where to get an XDA II in the US?

I currently have an XDA I (Siemens SX56 AT&T) and would like to get an XDA II (unlocked) as soon as they're sold by a reliable US source. FYI, I called AT&T Tech support and they said an unlocked phone should work great, just swap the SIM chip over from my XDA I.
It looked like Phone4Devs would be a good source, but they went out of business. The other sources (below) I've found are mostly overseas and pretty expensive.

I'm sure I'm like many of you who would like to pay less than the $850-1,000 + Unknown Custom Charges, that overseas sources are asking.
There are many versions of the HTC Himalaya phone out there (qTek 2020, O2 XDA II, i-mate XDA II). It looks like the i-mate and qTek are the best for the US. Any feedback?
Let's see if we can find a good supplier in the US !!!
Thanks.
www.expansys.us
Use this link for USA marketed iMate or O2 XDA II. Sales tax charged in Illinois only.
XDA II Prices before Shipping
Benshop - US$905
Compume - US$830
Club i-Mate - $850
4Cellular - US$990
Mobilefly - US$880
PPCW-net - US$846
Expansys.us - US$833
I converted to USD where necessary and all are BEFORE shipping. Compume (Australia) and Expansys (World-wide) seem interesting.
and how about eBay ???
has anyone considered that option to acquire a/m XDA II ???
regards,
monika
Ordered an iMat XDA2
Gave up on Expansys.us. Ordered a iMtae XDA2 unit from PPCW.net (Arne). On route, looking forward to it.
Still trying to sell my existing XDA1 though, pass the word

cshields1,
I understand what you mean because I am currently waiting on Expansys.us too. When you get your phone please let us know of your over all experience with PPCW.net and also how the warranty or technical support is handle for the phone. I understand Expansys.us will play the middle man if you have an issue with phone during your warranty period (which is good considering we are in the US).

sim free vs. unlocked xda ii

hi,
im new here and don't own an xda ii yet. a friend of mine will purchase one for me from O2 UK and have it unlocked so that i can use it at home (philippines). the question is - will there be any problems with this in terms of OS/ROM, software or usage.
what will be the advantages if i'll purchase one which is sim-free - say from singapore.
thanks
No, there will be no problem at all with upgrades.
Just buy the cheapest you can find.
All the other info you need to unlock, do ROM upgrades etc, you can find on this forum.
Grtz,
Jos
thanks jos.
i guess i'll post some more questions once i got the unit.
Thanks

Can't Register Clubimate

Hey all.
recently got my XDA II mini and while trying to register at clubimate i get an error saying my IMEI is wrong.
clubimate supprt says i need to check with distributor (friend bought it in Thailand while on a trip before the tzunami so its not possible).
did anyone else came across this problem?
what can i do?
Thanks ahead...
I think that they mean that for support you need to go back to your distributor or sales outlet. The reason why your IMEI is not accepted is probably because it's an XDA Mini IMEI, and not an i-Mate JAM IMEI. DO not forget that the IMEI identifies the device al the way down to the company that sells them, in your case O2 (XDA), in other cases T-Mobile (MDA Compact) or Qtek (100s). They just limit access to iMate support to real iMate devices.
To be honest, I am not suprised, and actually I don't disagree with their policy. On clubimate they support devices that they have sold, not devices that have been sold by other companies. When I still had my MDA compact, I could not register at Club Imate either, but when I bought a real JAM, I could.
i actually do have an XDA2Mini.. not an imate device.
therefor, where can i get support? (updates/patch/whatever)
Thanks ahead...

is O2 Asia Support Site for patches etc.

Some questions about simlock and system language

Hi, everyone! I don't know if it's the right forum to ask... I found it using Google...
I want to buy an MDA Pro, which is also known as HTC Universal, from what I've read. I live in Poland, but I think about buying one from Germany, because it seems to be cheaper there. But I have a few problems...
First of all, the MDAs which I can buy in Germany have a T-Mobile simlock, so they probably won't work here unless I unlock it. So, is there a way to unlock it?
Second, it will be in German, and I don't really know German. Is it possible to download and install an English ROM?
First of all welcome to XDA DEV
Point one, so far it is not possible to unlock the universal for free. You have to "buy" the unlock code from T-Mobile as the unlock hasn't been made yet.
Second point, yes you can flash the device to change it from german to english. This is possible and not that difficult.
Thanks for the welcome!
I've noticed on eBay that some people from Germany are selling unlocked ones... maybe I'll get one of them
