Updates (RUU 3.15.15 & RSU 4.16) - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I have been playing with some updates: a 3.15.15 ROM a kind soul let me copy from his device, and an RSU 4.16 radio update.
Don't ask: I can't send them to you. XDA-developers does not spread copyrighted software. Would make it too easy for the few people that do not love this site...
The following things are interesting:
- The RSU upgrades RILGSM.DLL
- The ROM contains a very simple SIM-toolkit application
More details to follow...

I've got it as well, it seems to run without any problems. GSM banking works, that's all I ever dreamt of

banking?
What is "GSM banking" all about?
thanks,
Rick

Questions about radio stack upgrade

I have a Qtek 1010 with ROM version 3.16.13 ENG and Radio version 3.19.01. The phone part of my device is very unstable, so I want to upgrade the radio stack and see if that helps. But I am a little confused about the ROM and radio stack versions and hope someone can answer these questions:
-What is the latest radio stack version?
-Where I can get it?
-Are the radio stacks country specific or provider specific?
-Do I need to upgrade the ROM before I can upgrade to the latest radio stack?
I hope someone can help me with this.
I apologize if I'm asking stupid questions, but I would be very grateful if somone could help me with this. I've seen that there are many different radio stack versions. I would like to know if there is a newer version than 3.19.01 that will work with my Qtek 1010 in Norway.
I called my local dealer who told me that 3.19.01 is the newest upgrade available (but it didn't sound like he knew much about it). Does anyone know if this is correct? And if it is, are there any other radio upgrades that will work with my device? Can I e.g. use O2's upgrade for the XDA?
Once again, I apologize if my questions are foolish or have been answered before.

3.19.01 you said... Hmmmm, we have not studied that particular version yet. Please extract it and FTP it to xda-developers.com user 'xdaftp' password 'xdaftp' if you could.

You can use anyone's upgrade, really. There a few T-mobile American ROM upgrades which also upgrade the (separate) phone ROM when you install them (which is bad, because the phone software is different between 900/1800 and 900/1900), but otherwise you can play to you heart's content.
Until recently, the coolest thing to run was probably the xda-developer Special Edition ROM v1.2. It was based on the O2 3.17.03 ROM, but had lots of features added. Earlier this week, we released ROMkitchen (click here for more information). Setting up your own kitchen is fairly involved, but people have set up publically accessible kitchens you can use. One example is Jeff's kitchen, but others are bound to pop up all over the place.
In the ROMkitchen, you have a choice of basing your new ROM on the O2 3.17.03 ROM, or on the 4.00.05 Windows Mobile 2003 test ROM that's floating out there, and then you can add the freeware of your choice. Installation is a breeze since the kitchen will produce self-extracting compressed .exe files which you just need to execute to install the new ROM.
Read many other messages here to get a feel for things. There's a number of reasons to still use the 3.17.03 (or 3.19.01...) over the WM2003 thing, but for a lot of others it's already cooler than the 3.xx ROMs.
Once again, I apologize if my questions are foolish or have been answered before.

Well, to be honest we've been lazy, and we haven't spent enough time on writing really good FAQs that represent the current situation. A case of being too busy building the stuff to actually document it all right. And this forum is so busy that I can well imagine people being overwhelmed by it all. I know I am sometimes...
Good luck... (and please don't forget to extract and FTP the 3.19.01. There's documentation on how to extract and backup your old ROM here..)
Thank you very much for your reply. Are you saying that I can use any radio upgrade with my Qtek, or are you talking about operating system upgrades?
To avoid any possible misunderstanding: My current Radio Version is 3.19.01. I'm having a lot of problems with the phone part of my device, so I'm hoping that there is a newer and more stable radio stack version available.
If you're still interested in my 3.19.01 radio stack, I'll try to ftp it to you, but I'm currently getting a permission denied message from your server. I'll try to access it again later. Or you can download the radio stack from this location.
BTW: The ROMkitchen looks excellent. I'll probably do some cooking there soon.

UK 02 4.0.0.x PPC2003

Hi ya fellas.
I upgraded my XDA 02 UK pda to 4.00.05 and am fairly happy with its stability. A few probs with the backlight going off, but nothing much really. Windows Media 2003 is class.... encoding films with windows media codec 9 is a joy and they work every time...no codec conflictions, cache settings etc, and the quality is cool.
However, i wish to get a plain (i.e. No added cooked programs) ROM.
I could use Yorchs kitchen to cook up a plain 4.00.05 ROM again, but would rather give 4.0.0.16 ago. It's labled as a T-Mobile USA rom... I however have a UK o2 model xda. If i download the GSM 800/1800 changer utility with it, should it work ok?
Also, will this ROM update my radio stack. I'm currently running 4.21 (the official latest update for o2 uk xda's)... i dont mind if it does update it, but compatability wise, what odds am i running of it working ok?
Ive got an SD reader/writer and have a backup of my old rom just in case i need to go back via bootloader mode.
Thanks for listening
You XDA-Developers are good people (if a little to smart for my likeing
Tony Kett.
probably none since you're only updating ROM and not radio stack.
the cleanest method is obviously using the SD.
btw ... can we have your ROM to look at ?
Thanks
Decebal
my Rom (4.00.05) is just the one thats on the yorch site (with extra apps etc).
>probably none since you're only updating ROM and not radio stack.
- So if i update to 4.00.16 from yorch's site, theres no Radio stack upgrade? and the t-mobile USA version of this 4.00.16 (thats presented on the site) will only update my OS?
http://www.yorch.net/ - if you didnt know btw.
And a bloody good site it is.
So any other O2 UK XDA users upgraded to 4.00.16 or above? (4.00.21)?
I know your out there :!:
updating to v4.00.16 in the uk on a uk device will make you loose the ability to use orange/one2one in the xda as 1800mhz will be replaced with a none working 1900mhz
meaing your phone will have a 1800/900mhz radio but 1900/900mhz software which cant control the radio properly.
use v4.00.05 or v4.00.11(best option) so that you can use all uk networks.
4.00.11 ?
where can we get 4.00.11 ?
the rom kitchens :|
th 4.0.0.11 rom is not available on Yorch Kitchen.
It was on Jeff's Kitchen but the site is down.
Could some one upload the rom 4.0.0.11 on a server to share??
regards,
Yann
gazzaman2k... exactly the answer i was looking for. Cheers Mate.
Now to find a 4.00.11 Rom
Your right, yorch doesnt have that one. Anyone fancy hosting it.... or if possible, email me it at [email protected]
Cheers People,
Tony
So I take it that its not possible to change the 1900/900 to 1800/900 on those newer t-mobile roms (4.0016 & above)? No changer utility? Cant do it in the bootloader :?:
Dammit.
Just out of curiosity, what is the latest unofficial radio stack that people in the UK are using.
The 4.21 official one has been out for quite a while now, but ive seen no unofficial updates to this :?:
Tony
Ajektt, ther is an official update to the 4.21 Radio Stack it's the 4.21.X1
I have it installed, I don't see mutch difference, maybe a better signal mesure.
Doese some one have the 4.00.11 Rom?? I could host it if some one sends it.
Yann
actually with 4.00.21 comes 6.24.00 RSU.
Who wants it ... pm me ... or you can find it at yorch's site.
I need the 4.00.11 too.
Decebal
decebal, we are talking about o2 uk xda compatible radio stacks and os.
4.00.21 and 6.24 RSU Uses 1900/900 GSM ranges, not 1800/900 from what i've been told above in the forum.
Tony
will people pack it in emailing me for v4.00.11 yeah i have it but its cooked especially for my xda meaning the ecurity rom was cooked also  if i had a plain version id be happy to share but as i dont i wont share the version i got as the rom contains my name+details and phone numbers ect.... hence why i havent uploaded it to my webspace and shared
Thank you gazzaman2k!! We understand you can't share your cooked version.
Maybe Jeff still hase in his archive an uncooked 4.00.11 version of the rom?
Could Yorch include it in his kitchen??
Dose some one has a uncooked version or a cooked version of the 4.00.11 rom with out the security option?
fair enough gazza 8)
We need to harass Yorch to get it up on his superb kitchen. I think we have our work cut out though, because he's getting requests left, right and centre for things on there, which is pretty harsh on him (and his team)
If anyone does manage to get the nbf file, so i can dump it in an .exe install that would be great
for all those concerned about the ROMs on Yorch.net:
Well, for those who know me know that I am about to get married in 2 months, and I just moved with my fiancee to a new apartment. Before moving, I sold EVERYTHING, that includes my 3 desktops pc (including my main PC), and my desk. Since my the new apt, is not that big, I chose not to buy me a desktop, but a laptop, by the way, the laptop that I just bought is the HP pavillion zd7000 series custom made for me  , 3.06ghz of sheer power....arhhh, arhhhh, arhhh <----[trying to imitate Tim Allen]
Anyway, you problably know what that means, right, I've been without a home PC for the last 2 weeks, and I'm scheduled to recieve my new laptop by next week (hopefully), so no changes to the websites, and no changes, really, if you can get smart people to figure out the changes for me, I'm sure I could do them online or from my work computer, but in the meanwhile, I can't do anything......so stop harrasing me with the 4.00.11 rom already! 8) .
hahaha
Consider the harrisment stopped.
Enjoy your move... i moved 2 weeks ago and im still aching

If anyone can host the 4.00.11 Rom, i can send it via Email.
Got it in nb1 format, so it should work.
Played few weeks ago little bit with the kitchen, but didn´t get it really working. Maybe because my computer is too slow.
Regards
Stefan
can we get the 4.00.11 plain rom out of the nb1 file (nbf?)?
If so we should then be able to cook another rom on yorch's site (i.e. a 4.00.05 one), build it as an .exe. Then once we have the exe, we should be able to drop the 4.00.11 file in to replace the 4.00.05 one that we cooked...no?
But can u extract stuff from nb1's?

Yorch.net ROM - 4.00.21 (Official Pre-release upgrade)

Can somebody tell me please whether this upgrade is good?
What is exactly the upgrade other than WM2003? (A comparison will be excellent!!!)
Is it stable and whether it can be used in Asia?
Thanks very much indeed.
Yorch does not have 4.00.21
but he does have 16 which I have found to be the most stable ROM for tmo us
It's there; just not in the kitchen
Look in the "Upgrades" section.
I haven't used it, but I've seen where it is.
still using this rom
Hello
I am using this rom and have travelled from the US to Europe and back, becarefull with the charges of the internet in Europe, it seems a little slower there
It works well, overall connectivity seems to be improved
Some reboots but nothing extreem.
Hope this helps
Frederik
Someone please.
Is this ROM okay to use in Hong Kong (Asia)?
I think for WM2003, excel or word files downloaded from inbox can be opened directly.
For PPC2002, you must transfer these files through Activesync, otherwise, you can't read them. Is it true? That's why I am thinking of upgrading my device to WM2003.
Thanks a lot.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. Since upgrading to WM2003 I've opened an excel spreadsheet that was an email attachment.
Note that not all things transfer across - for example, the Spreadsheet I opened had an embedded chart. All of the numbers, etc. were there but the chart was MIA. This makes sense because charts aren't a feature of Pocket Excel.
Have any Asia Pacific o2 xda user upgraded to this 4.00.21 ROM and is it stable with 4.21 radio and 5.1.5 bootloader?
Pls advise.
Thanks
i did upgrade my asian O2 to 4.01.00 only
I still use my 4.21.01 radio
i did downgrade my bootloader from 6.22 to 5.15
no significant problem at all... only known problem
like the backlight problem and SD erasure problem...
Thanks very much for your reply.
I think I have to wait for a while because of these problem. I don't want it to erase my SD.
Where did you find 4.01.00 ROM?

A.30.09 ROM and A.33.02 RS? Try A.30.05 ENG + A.33.01 RS!

Hi all,
You may have seen we were the first to report on January 31st that the 2003 OS update was available from Siemens for the SX56. There has been a lot said about this update and there are some problems that have surfaced as you all have noticed.
I am pleased to announce that we have a potential solution for some of these problems. We have the "previous build" of the Windows Mobile 2003 ROM and bring some closure to everyone's problems
The "Publicly Available" ROM available on the SIEMENS Web Site:
- A.30.09 ROM and A.33.02 Radio Stack
Our "Special Version" ROM not available at all to the public.
- A.30.05 ENG and A.33.01 Radio Stack
So the question is why would I distribute a slightly older build. The Radio Stack seems to function better. I also had the same problems as many did with GPRS connectivity, however when I moved back to the A.30.05 ROM those problems disappeared.
As with the MPx200 ROM we unearthed a while ago, please feel free to link to this page (and for awhile it will be at the front page of www.MPx200.org ) but please, out of courtesy, do not link to the ROM directly from other web sites. If you would like to give it a shot, get it here.
As always, we are not providing any warranty of any sort, and don't expect your carrier or the manufacturer to provide any support for this ROM! You will be installing at your own risk, if you mess it up and destroy your PocketPC, we can't and won't help ya...which is why I posted here, so that the trusted XDA community will help - I will post here when I can.
Be very careful and mindful to all posts here about flashing as before (and yes, do the SD method if you are already running 2003) and have fun!
How to obtain A.33.09 ROM and A.33.02 RS?
I've downloaded the pocket pc 2003 from siemens.com and its version is A.30.09 ENG ROM and A.20.10RS. Is this the latest and the greatest? But I also see the mention of A.33.09 ROM and A.33.02 RS. Where/how do you obtain these?
The A.30.09 ROM and A.33.02 RS are the official releases for ATT from Siemens available here.
We are offering another version, just previous to that one (beginning of this thread) to see if that rectifies some of the issues people were having with the new radio stack or OS settings.

How to downgrade RSU or swith from 900/1900 to 900/1800

Hi all,
Thanks to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=39630#39630 and especially remarks from hb88xx, I successfully managed to recover from my own mistakes (that many people have done as well apparently).
Here is the story:
* I bought my O2 xda from Telstra in Australia where the band is 900/1800. It is a PW10A1 device.
* I then cooked a rom with Yorch's kitchen and as many others, didn't read enough posts before doing so and opted for the infamous EXE method as I had successfully upgraded once before from O2 using this method.
* As my bootloader is 5.17 and my cooked rom was based upon T-Mobile, I was stuck: impossible to downgrade the bootloader because of TMO checks (the wallaby patch doen't work) and impossible to up/downgrade using the SD card method because of the bootloader version.
* Still, I could use my device but my WM2003 was very buggy.
* Out of hope, I decided to upgrade to another TMO rom, but this time an official one (4.01.16) as I read it was quite stable.
* That was the BIG mistake as I also did the RSU upgrade and I ended up with a 900/1900 device, having the 4.21 RSU.
* I tried many of the tips I read from this forum, but none of them worked and I had to buy a cheap cellphone to use my SIM card on it and keep my xda as a pda.
Basically, what you need to do is the following:
* Using the attached file or the official TMO upgrade, extract and copy the files into the \Windows directory of the xda.
* Detach it from the craddle and run the EXE on it.
* It says things in german (performing upgrade) and then a final status (whatever "erfolreich", ie successful). Click OK and finally, reboot the device.
* You now have a 3.23.11 RSU.
Once again, thanks a lot to all participants to this forum and especially hb88xx.
And thanks also for the remark below
Regards,
Bob.
Hey mate ...
It's great that you have learned this lesson, but now you may cause troubles to some unexperienced users by posting this file with this name
Simply, what you have posted is the typical RSU upgrade 4 files you should find in ANY RSU exe file, but because you posted this file with the name RSU_Fix, I 'm afraid some one will just use it with a B device thinking it will solve his problem and endup with a dead RSU.
So, plz remove this file or rename it RSU_3_23.zip or so

Hi BobMorane.
I am having the same problem as yours, upgraded to WM2003 and can't go back to ppc2002.
Sounds like You have reverted your xda rom to ppc2002, didn't you?
Don't quite understand those that listed in your post. Could you explain a little more?

XDA1 bootloader v5.17
Hi bob,
I'm a little confused - I understand RSU 4.21 is for 900/1800. It is the RSU that o2asia currently distributes.
My XDA is a PW10A1 and currently has RSU4.21 (from o2asia), Wallaby 5.17 (no idea where it came from... am guessing o2asia as well) and T-mobile WM2003 4.01.16 ENG (.EXE cooked from Lumpistefans)
As a result, I'm stuck as well. However, I can still use my phone on GSM900/1800; as long as I avoid settings-phone-band; all is well; but if I do wander into that, a reset to the bootloader-calander-gsm900/1800 solves the problem (albit temporary...)
Anyway, I'm meeting up with a friend to borrow a SD card+reader over this weekend or the next, so that I can change the ROM (get out of theT-mobile WM2003 rut). Am a little concerned about what you wrote however:

Could you please eleborate more on how the wallaby patch didn't work? How did downgrading the RSU to 3.23.11 help? Are you able to replace your T-mobile ROM or Wallaby 5.17 following that? Or are you still stuck, but at least the phone works on GSM900/1800?
More information please?
Hi,
Some anwers below.
RaymondB :
Actually, I didn't revert to PPC202 and I still enjoy the 2003 features, but I managed to get rid of a 900/1900 issue.
xdagirl :
My problem was slightly different as I did not have the RSU4.21 for asian devices. My aim with the post was more to explain how to get out of the original T-Mobile rom lock-in (I did not use a cooked one because of my 5.17 wallaby). I assume you can do it as well with the asian RSU4.21. If you have it, I can try it and let you know.
As for the 5.17 wallaby issue, I was stuck in the midst of 2 issues : the 5.17 doesn't let you access the SD card method and you need first to downgrade it to 5.15. The patch to do this can't be used if you have installed a T-Mobile rom as it blocks the connection. I couldn't get around this and that's the reason I upgraded to the offical TMO rom.

Thanks for your reply, Bob.
So you are still with WM2003. Is this the new official one or the buggy one that you've had earlier. If its the new one, how did you do the flashing?
Did you downgrade the bootloader to v5.15?
I really wish to go back to ppc2002, as the current one seems to be quite unstable. At times, it reset itself, especially when some changes was made to some particular today plugin. It also turn on itself, which eat away the precious battery power. Also, the phone setting function and the band switching utilities will hard reset the xda.
Sorry for so much bugging. Hope your could help.
Thanks and cheers.
