Has anyone run into issues w/touch on this device periodically?
I've been having problems with mine from time to time where a touch is registered in the wrong location... like very wrong, I notice this most often when looking through menus in the system settings.
I fight with scrolling properly in a few diff apps. One in particular is pocket informant. Some times I also have trouble switching home screens and the transition starts to twitch when it hits about half screen then ultimately returns to the screen I'm trying to move away from.
If you would like a video I can try to capture it
Is this common or should I start an RMA and get a fresh new A7 on the way?
I've had this problem sometimes. I think it's because the screen is probably low quality or something is.
Ive also noticed that if I bring it too close to my face to see the side buttons in the dark, my breath on the screen makes things jump around spastically.

My screen has been touchy as well
hey all,
so i was working with TF late at night, and i conveniently pushed the power button to suspend it (not turning it off), and the next morning, it just refuses to light up. I have the keyboard dock as well, but I was not using it at that time, and when i dock it, nothing happens.
any ideas? it starts to make me worry, since i had it for just 3 days.
thnx
Mine does that a lot.
First, plug it into the wall to make sure you've got some battery life.
Then try holding down the power button for a long time, maybe a minute. Then I push it a couple more times and it always comes up.
Just keep pushing that power button!
agreed sounds like the same issue that many of us have experienced (I've had it a dozen times or more). Each time just hold the power button for 10-12 secs, release then turn on as normal and it mysteriously comes back to life. Plenty of posts on this forum about it.
And unfortunately this problem persists for me even after the recent OTA update...
If the Samsung Tab 10.1 had a microsd slot, I think my Transformer would be on eBay right now.
Getting tired of unpaid beta testing.
Sorry for re-posting a common issue. On a side note, I was on the latest OTA firmware too.
I am off to work will try again in the evening.
Also, when it happens, does it also drains battery? Or is it just a not powering up issue
thanks for all the responses
It depends... Sometimes I get it to wake up and it says it has battery life. (Most of the time actually.)
Someone was saying that if you turn of the wifi new notifications option sometimes that helps. (I think that was the option...)

SOD
I have the SOD problem with the official rom (asus), not rooted, at the last version.
I have the problem even if wifi is off prior to put it to sleep (power off, no shutdown). If it stay docked with keyboard, i have no problem. It looks like i always have the problem without dock, after about 20 minutes, it no longer resume and have to press power button for 10 secondes and then it restart to boot like if has been shutdown.
Is there a log file somewhere ?
I did not notice this problem the first few day i had my tf, only since yesterday.
Maybe one of the installed program is causing the problem ?

I hope they can solve the problem soon, cause that make no sens to have to always reboot (take ~15 sec)
Only the programs that are currently running not installed programs.
If you have a mini HDMI cable try to hook it up to a tv or monitor to see if that works. I had the same SOD issue but it's not really a screen of death. What happened to mine was just the back light died. If you have good eyes and are in a dimly lit area try turning it on and see if you can see the lock screen. I was able to see the lock screen, enter my pin, and actually vaguely see the home screen. Also if it hooks up to the monitor and you have adb access, chances are the back light is dead. Let me know how it goes.

Seems to be alot of peoples sentiments.
Theres not even a chance of a dongle right ?
Asus transformer is turning into a very strange device with its combination of demand and HW problems.
don't know if this will help for you, but i fixed the sleep of death problem by removing my lockscreen to a normal unsecured login. prior, i set up a lockscreen pattern code.
it fixed my sleep of death problems when i was having it the first couple of days and i haven't had any since day 1.
sod
I do not have any password, only the default lock that you have to move out of circle.
Last night, i left it on sleep (power off but no shutdown) with no running application (had just reboot previoulsy) and in the morning i had to press power 10 seconds to make it reboot, the power on was not working.
just got back home, as for lock pattern, i had none, just plain honeycomb locking mechanism. I will try the 10sec power button trick right away though.
it worked! thanks all.

You touch on something here. I do wonder if it's some app that's causing issues. Looking at your list above, I do not have most of the apps you list, and my TF has never encountered the SOD. I have a dock as well, both updated to the latest firmware, and still no issues.
I really wonder if it's something running in the background that just doesn't want to let the device start back up.
I'd suggest to people encountering the problem to first (as much as it sucks) do a factory reset and then be sure the firmware is up to date. Then install only a few applications - just the core ones you use the most frequently - preferably only a couple at a time. Then use the sleep mode and see what happens.
I'll add this as well - I had an Archos 101 that had a SOD problem. I figured out that it happened a lot if the screen off timeout was exceeded. Meaning, if I had the screen timeout set to 2 minutes, and I put it into sleep for more than 2 minutes, a lot of the times, it encountered the SOD.
Right now, my TF is set to keep the screen on. Perhaps this is a factor as well?
If anyone would like to test either or both theories above, try only one at a time. If you change too many things and then fix a problem, it's a lot harder to tell which action resolved the problem.
still sof
I still have the problem. And it is not a dim problem.
nothing on the screen.
Have to press 10 seconds o the power to have it to boot.
Isn't Asus going to do something about it ?

Language
I dont know but maybe i have something... i did'nt remembered but i think i started to have that problem when i changed the language of my tf to "french (canada)". Now i have reverted it back to "English US", and so far it doesn't look like i have the problem anymore... i'll continue to test that way and i will report back.
I have rebooted after changing the language, or else i still had the problem.
I have recently experienced an issue that never happened before while playing demanding games. Basically, my a500 will seemingly randomly freeze on an individual frame of the game an the screen will start to flicker on and off. Audio and touch input from the screen still work as I can hear the sound effects made from touching the areas of the screen (gun firing etc.), however the screen refuses to do anything but flicker on the same frame until I force close the app from the task manager (it isn't even detected as unresponsive). This has taken place on NOVA 2 and MC3 as well playstation and n64 emulators. I just upgraded to Civato's flex jb so I'm not sure if its a compatibility issue with a500, but I seem to remember all of these apps working when I first upgraded so I'm not sure what gives now. Any help would be appreciated.
I have exactly the same problem with my a500

I have exactly the same problem with my Acer a500. It's incredible to see that it has passed more than a year and there still isn't a solution for this problem. Many a500 users say that it may be a memory problem. Since then, when I need to run some graphic demanding games or apps, I first stop some applications that are running.
My Gt3 does it on mupen too but only if I load state from slower game speed like 50 %

Hey I just got my Z4. Upgraded from a Z2 Play. I bought direct from Motorola off their website. I'm having really strange 2D performance issues, and was wondering if anyone else is having similar issues because they seem outright stupid for a phone as beefy as this one is to be doing this.
OK, so, this is going to sound super vague because I did try to nail it down with a ctrace, but wasn't able to come up with anything conclusive.
Sometimes, when drawing 2D only, my phone will drop to 30fps or lower. This happens in both in the launcher/normal apps and games (Fire Emblem Heroes)
However, when the phone is drawing in 3D (Dragalia Lost) the phone never drops below 60fps, ever, for any reason.
I have tried the developer option to force 2D Drawing on the GPU. This does not change the behavior at all.
This happens regardless of what MotoMod I have attached (None, Car Dock, Projector, 360 Camera)
This seems really weird to me. The phone isn't getting hot. It happens both plugged in and unplugged. Fresh reboots and not. What's interesting about this is it's exactly the opposite of my Z2 Play, which Dragalia F***ing hated (It would run fine for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, and then it would crash) but FEH would run fine on, and never ever have issues, ever, even if the phone hadn't been rebooted in like, 3 months. And the Z2 Play is just generally a weaker, crappier device in every way (Except Ram, I had the 64gb/4gb model of the Z2 Play) than the Z4, I kind of "expect" the Z4 to just do everything the Z2 did but better.
I'm not a particularly heavy user (I upgraded from my Z2 Play because the battery was expanding, not because it was insufficient) and both of the games mentioned are the only things I do on my phone that could be considered to "Push" the phone in any way (Push in quotes because Dragalia and FEH are both REALLY light games.)
Has anyone else noticed any strangeness like this?
I have the same issue, and yes, it's really hard to describe and difficult to determine what causes it.
What it actually looks like to me is that the digitizer randomly goes into a powersaving mode and samples input at a lower frequency. When scrolling through any app, if you hold your finger down, it'll make it look like it's running at 30fps or less. But if you fling a page that can scroll, for the most part the scrolling animation will be full 60fps.
I know for certain that if you reboot the phone, you're more likely to trigger it soon after boot. But, if you suffer through the agonizing experience, the phone will eventually fix itself for the next week or so before it happens again.
Here's the weird part, not everyone is affected by the weird performance. My theory is most people can't detect it or don't care, or there's a particular app that is prompting the digitizer to behave badly. No idea what it is though.

It's definitely not the digitizer though! I have some data! Fire Emblem Heroes has an autobattle mode, This is as likely to happen during an autobattle when I am providing no input (Phone sitting on desk/just watching while holding) as it is when I'm scrolling through my list of apps.
Same problem here, pretty sluggish experience compared to my girlfriend's G7 Plus.
I've noticed that since the latest update, this issue has gone away for me. Anyone else confirm?
I don't think it was the update, but certain apps seem to exaggerate performance issues. I fixed mine by marking Pokemon Go (the only 3d game I play), as "Restricted" under battery usage settings.
I've been testing this configuration for about 2 days now and it looks like that solved it.
Just to set the record straight, the Android 10 update fixed the random performance problems that have plagued the device so far. There is some hitching right after a reboot, but if you let the phone settle, it's fine until the next reboot.
