Will we ever have a Custom Rom? - Nokia 5 Questions & Answers

So, I know that without the source code from HMD Global, we won't have a custom ROM available, my question is if anyone has a clue to whether they'll release it at some point or not..
Not to complain but Nokia 5 could really use a MIUI ROM perhaps, or something that helps the it's lags sometimes..

I hope that too

HMD is a new company at this, placing Nokia phones running Android for the first time, I really hope they will satisfy the community by releasing those files as soon they so we can play like back in the old days - HTC HD2, Motorola Razr, Note 3, 4, 5, etc.

Like I said in a previous post, Nokia has released the source code but bootloaders stay locked unfortunately, so no custom rom for us yet.

A few general questions

(I realize some questions are about the Galaxy S/General Android but I thought I'd fit them in here too. If inappropriate, please move or delete this thread)
Has there been any word of a GSM version for the rest of the world like me?
I assume this is rootable and Samsung will not use locked bootloaders like Motorola Milestone (which I regret even owning) ?
Is it possible to port Cyanogenmod to this or Galaxy S?
Should I pick this or an HTC phone with a QWERTY keyboard instead for ROM compatibility? (The rumored HTC Vision)
In an experienced person's opinion, Should I go for this or keep saving my money and go for an Android 3.0 phone instead? (rumored to come out in Q4 2010)
First question I don't know the answer to.
Second question yes it will most likely have root upon release.
Third question is most likely not. With Samsungs complicated file structure and lack of open source code the phone will most likely only receive custom roms based off of only Samsung firmware. That means the only way you will get froyo is when Samsung releases it.
Last question yes I would wait for an HTC device. The community already has a good grip on these devices which should give you a much better chance of having a large choice of custom roms. (mind you I'm not saying the phone won't have custom roms its just they will all be based off of Samsung releases. If you don't believe me take a look at all Samsung android released so far and where the I 9000 is currently at right now)

Because Droid 2 is a CDMA-phone (Verizon) and Milestone 2 is a GSM-phone (Europe e.g.)! Both are based on different chipsets. That's why this phones are technically not the same phones, they just look alike!
The Droid 2 Global is both: CDMA and GSM! So there are 3 different phones with the same look out in the wild.
Oh, I see. Well it's look bad, no ROM avaible now, only ROM Fission test. I am wondering to buy something different
Do you think some ROMS will come?
And themes for Droid2 can be used for Milestone2?
I tried to deodexed my milestone 2 rom yesterday, the process is not hard but a bit boring. I have different goal than theming, but it appears easy when everything is deodexed.
The Blur phone framework seems quite different from AOSP, so building AOSP ROM like Fission requires much more time than theming... If you want big changes to MS2, you got to be either very patient or well skilled in hacking
So i can't flash on Fission ROM (for M2) this THEME: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914196
try metamorph: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
not sure if they had that steel theme u want but they had a nice black one so it made me happy..
OK, no DesireZ, I will buy Milestone 2. I heard only positive comments for Fission ROM and I hope, new ROMS will arrived before I will buy the phone (next several months).
Only what I am scared is locked bootloader, I am affraid of brock

If i would be you id buy the Desire HD way bigger display and no bootlock... i wish i bought it.. i cant get rid of my ms2

What's bad and what i shouldn't do with locked bootloader? I want only flash ROM and THEME, no more customizion
And that wont work.

Much like with the other Motorola phones, you CAN flash ROMs...you just can't change the kernel of the OS. Some functions not in the original kernel can be added by loading them as modules, but not all kernel features can be loaded that way.
If I had to guess, I'd say we'll get a few ROMs eventually, but given that much of the development scene goes on in the USA, we mightn't get as many as other phones...at least unless AT&T manage to get a version of the phone for their network. Unlikely though...Verizon seem to be going hard and exclusive on most of the Motorola gear...then again, Verizon are getting the iPhone after years on AT&T exclusive, so who knows what will happen in future...
To sum up...ROMs are coming, but don't expect the scene to be as vibrant for the GSM variants as it is with the CDMA ones...
if I had only known that before I bought a phone. Hmm, maybe it's time to play around myself a little bit =)
it's really disappointing that there isn't as much "hackery" going on in the Milestone 2 area compared to the Milestone 1.
Doshaska for example works so hard for getting the newest CyanogenMods on the Milestone 1, other groups released the 2.2 Froyo Upgrade months before Motorola did it (2 days ago they finally released it, but still not for everyone).
I think one of the problems is that the MS2 wasn't nearly as successful as the MS1 - but if we're lucky some skilled hacker will go on to our phone. Still hoping...
I think there will be better in the future - I bought this phone yesterday, with the hope for that . For now we've got the Argen2Stone. And look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870845&page=28 - Mikevhl would like to port the CM6 for us We must wait and help if possible

[Q] (I9500)Will samsung release the source code of exynos 5???

its been over 6 months, and shi*** samsung has never released any of exynos 5's source code.
when it will be finally released?
and when will properly CM roms be released? there are few CM/AOSP roms but they all full of bugs, ditched and not updated, and not ready for daily use
thanks
?????????????????????
1) Ask Samsung. How would anyone here know ? Anything anyone here says is an uneducated guess at best. Samsung has always dragged the chain with regard to releasing sources, and this isn't going to change anytime soon. And they're only required to release the 'open source' stuff anyways, most of the proprietary stuff never gets released (so needs to be 'hacked'/reverse engineered) & probably never will be.
2) Re: CM, ask the CM team/ask in one of the CM threads ?
You must be new here.

ROM development and tweaks?

It is my understanding that the development of ROM for this phone may be limited since it won't be available in the US. Right now, I'm wondering if there's anything we could do to try to jump start development? I don't have enough knowledge to develop anything on my own but maybe I could supply data using my Moto X Play? I know enough to install stuff like TWRP without bricking the phone. Anyway, at least, we don't have to suffer the atrocities of an ugly skin like TouchWiz since Motorola adopted a bare to the bone attitude with its firmwares. I also heard that these Motorola phones will be among the first to receive an official Marshmallow update.
I'm in the same boat. I don't know what's all involved with custom kernels or anything, but would love to see how we could tweak our phones.
It's being released over there as a droid variant is it not?

On Verizon, which is quite different from a cellular radio standpoint (not to mention good luck getting the bootloader unlocked (I'm sure Verizon won't let you use Moto's unlock tool)

[Q] Possible to install Windows 10?

I'm getting this device by the end of this month because, comparing to the Vodafone Smart V8, it gets the best bang for my buck at the moment.
I wanted to know if I could install Windows 10 on it, it doesn't even have to be stable working or all but since you can install it on a Xiaomi Mi4, maybe its possible to do the same on this device (yes I know the specs and the model are different).
Why install Windows 10? As a tech enthusiast, basically I just wanted to do it and see it could be done, nothing more nothing less than a proof of concept.
Would be nice if you could install it and dual boot but a geek can dream, question is, is it possible and has someone tried doing it already?
Thank you.
Nope.
I too would like to see it. But the possibility is slim. I don't think we would get an official Windows 10 ROM for an android one device. I hope someone manages to port it tho.
And the MiUi ROM from Xiaomi Mi 5X?

No way for Miui for now, and especially windows.
Very little people use windows mobile so there is little to none interest for developers, and has been droped by Windows itself.
