Best ROM to use on MXP - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am just wondering how many people like the actual STOCK rom and cyanogen based ROM
So I am making a poll to see which one get's more vote
P.S this is not related to someone's specific ROM..
As we all know, some people like to keep STOCK as it is and some like modifications and customizations.
Stock means pure stock experience with root (OBviously) and Some like CyanogenMod ROM or based on it.
This is a poll to know what most users like.

Stock in this case means a very stable bug-free ROM with some nice features, like Moto Display. The little bloatware is gone after root. And you cans still get the customizations you want through custom kernels, Layers and/or Xposed !

[Q] Can someone summarize all the DX ROMs?

So, I know I want to root my DX and I know I want to load a custom rom, but I cant figure out which one. I've looked at the wiki but that just lists all the roms and doesnt really give a helpful summary to someone that has no idea what all the terminology means.
Could someone summarize the differences in the roms currently out there for the DX?
For example:
______ ROM is designed for users that want a vanilla android experience, ________ removes bloatware but doesn't change the performance of the phone
______ ROM is designed to push the DX to the limits of overclocking, _________ is very fast but sometimes buggy
______ ROM is designed for users that want to customize the look of their phone as much as possible.

I will take a shot at this, and hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and correct me if I am wrong on any (or all parts)
This one is what I was looking at and it took me a while to understand the AOSP abbreviation (Android Open Source Project) and as best as I could understand the Nexus One is AOSP. Stock, stock, stock. takes the Moto Blur out but doesn't change the voltage or overclock. So your peformance is just stock.
______ ROM is designed for users that want a vanilla android experience, ________ removes bloatware but doesn't change the performance of the phone
I haven't looked at this one because you can add some of the features like overclocking and under volting the DX with apps so I felt a stable ROM with the apps loaded with easy removal was a safer option (for me). You can drive a nice safe Toyota Camry (AOSP ROM) or you can drive a Formula 1 (Toyota Engineered Formula 1). Same company way different performance.
______ ROM is designed to push the DX to the limits of overclocking, _________ is very fast but sometimes buggy
This last one is a 50/50 for me, in that it requires updated (in some cases leaked) Verizon ROM's that you must first update to (such as 2.3.15 or 2.3.20 mentioned in the forums), of course they carry a risk for those unfamiliar with using SBF files (like me). You can then install the specialized ROM's that require the updated Verizon ROM's that are above our current DX release.
______ ROM is designed for users that want to customize the look of their phone
as much as possible
I am not sure if I was any help, if I confused you (and myself) or if another member can come along and clarify any of my points that I may have misunderstood. But what I posted is my take on them FWIW.

1. rubiX focused, fission and apex are very vanilla
2. You oc any rom you want with an add-on app
3. All roms allow customization, some roms have more compatible themes than others
rubiX blurry and tranquility are close to stock feel, blur apps in tact but streamlined, there may be other blur roms. Most other roms are blurless.

[Q] What's your ROM of choice?

I just got my Note 3 and I'm wondering what ROMs I should give a spin.
I tend to like MIUI roms as I had on my note 1, but also paranoid android is really fast and unbloated, I was also wondering what ROMs conserve multiwindow and s-pen features, maybe only samsung based ROMs have those. So yeah, what ROMs do you guys deem worthy?
Try them and see for your self.
I'm on Alliance 4.3, great battery, super smooth, I'm not going to update KitKat anytime soon.
Some are on 4.4 KitKat, they can maybe say a few words.
Why is ROM development so stumped? I thought I'd have TONS of ROMs to choose from like on my Note 1

Most important is that the roms and kernels that are out there are all very good You have sammy based roms, AOKP/AOSP and CM11, what more do you want? Plus you have Xposed framework to modify what you want.
I'm with CEPi - I run Alliance, Lean kernel and Philz Touch recovery. As stated it is a 4.3 based ROM so you'd need to see what your phone is as stock. If you're on 4.3, keep in mind if you go KK (4.4) you will be unable to come back. Also if your 4.3 is vMJ7 or above, you WILL blow the Knox counter by rooting, Custom ROM'ing or custom recovery.
If you're on KK already then you are restricted to the KK ROM's - like CEPi I can't comment on them as I see no reason to install a new ROM when Alliance is fast, stable & great battery.
Used X-note, now testing FlexKat.
The entire Dev section consists of roms of someone's choice. Ofcourse, some people prefer a certain rom, some don't. At the end, it is entirely up to you to decide what you like, and this can only be achieved by trying them yourself.
If you need a starting point, most rom's can be classified into two categories, aosp-based and touchwiz-based. You can try one or two on either side to see which category your preference falls in, and then try out some other options in that category.
On that note, thread closed as we do not allow such type of threads here, since they often snowball into heated arguments over personal preference.

What rom, whether stock, custom and kernel do you use and why.

Not a slagging of match about which custom rom is best as devs spend hour's cooking and testing roms for us. Just want people to share what rom they're using and why. It might be useful if we mention the very things that attract us to the various roms. This will help new users to pin point a rom if they prefer the same things. For me what matters apart from anything else is a rom and kernel that is blazing fast and I don't care at all about the battbNot a slagging of match about which custom rom is best. Just want people to share what lollipop custom rom they're using and why. It might be useful if we mention the very things that attract us to the various lollipop roms, for instance am on cataclysmic due to the smart radio mostly which is the main reason am attracted to cataclysmic and code blue kernel, because this combination offers me the best performance. I have previously used franco kernel, but since it hasn't been updated for a while, code blue is the way for me battery. I am still new to s6 edge so cannot share much yet but once I have found a rom and kernel combination that gives me the power and fluidity I require will then share.
Im using the renegade rom because it has some features that my original G925P stock rom doesnt like smart manager. I cant use it on my phone without flashing a rom. And It has funny/cool on/off boot animations.

Pros & Cons to go Custom Rom

Since 1+3, I did not have the need to root and install custom ROMs on the devices. I have passed on the 3 & 3T to my wife and daughter. They also don't see the reason to root and use custom ROMs. On 1+5, with all the updates, what would be the key motivator for custom roms? I do like customizable rom and ability to freshen up when bored. Majority of custom ROMs features I don't even use on daily basis. I did put RR rom on my 1+1 and it's really nice. Just not snappy with less Ram. Just trying to see what experts here feel about it? Any inputs are greatly appreciated!
Im still on stock, but would root it for sure, for 2 reasons, viper and adblock.
Custom roms are useful, when you dont have the official update rolling out for new versions of android.
As of now OP5 runs on 7.1.1, so thats good enough.
I root and add TWRP, titanium backup and add block on my phones with out question. Also for certain apps I need to push to system like a no add YouTube APK. I'm still on stock ROM with stock kernel but sometimes use custom kernels. The stock OOS ROM basically has just about everything I look for in a custom ROM as it is. So did me, no need for custom ROMs and this is the first ever phone I haven't put a custom ROM on, at least not yet.

is worth to flash a custom rom

Hello guys, I would like to know from you if its worth it to flash a customrom on my mia1. I've been using it since one year now , and i have keept it stock, just the camera2api for gc.
And over all i've been happy with it.
And have 0 experience with A/B partition phones ,my previews phone was nexus 6.
Is it easy to flash twrp and than a custom rom ?
Any suggestions would be apreciated :victory:
Depends what extra feature you seek.
I use stock happily with xposed
I'll probably use a custom ROM once Xiaomi drops update and support for Mi A1.

Thats what i've been thinking too , its not that i need any more features , im used to stock android.
In my opinion, nowadays smartphones already have many cool features and don't really require custom mods, like root or custom roms, however there are still a few but pretty strong reasons why you would like to flash a custom ROM:
- You'll always have the latest Android OS and security patches without having to wait like on stock ROM
- You'll have a wide range of customization possibilities so you can set your Mi A1 just on the style you want
- You'll also have the possibility of using custom Kernels which can give you better performance, specially in gaming or if you're more of a battery guy, they'll focus more into battery, depending on what you're looking for
- You'll be able to root your device which also opens many possibilities (mainly using root apps) but it's also pretty useful specially with that magisk modules thing which allow you to install things like the stock Mi A1 camera on custom ROMs, apps like Viper4Android (which is an equalizer with premium sound quality), etc.
Last but not least, keep in mind that the stock ROM already is very smooth and has a great battery life, so don't expect custom ROMs to be better than that, from my experience I can tell that custom ROMs are pretty close or equal, but I haven't found a ROM that gives better battery life than stock (maybe there are some or maybe it just needs some kernel tweaking, however I'm not really into kernel tweaking lol)
My advice: If you're looking for latest updates or customization, go ahead and flash a custom ROM, every other thing can be done on stock, keep in mind that the stock ROM can also be rooted or flashed with a custom kernel
I'm actually using NitrogenOS with Moun kernel and I couldn't be more satisfied, ROM feels stable, smooth and has a fairly decent amount of customization along with latest Android 9.0 and latest security patches without having to wait for them like on stock ROM.
Aaaaand also keep in mind that if after trying custom ROMs you don't like them, you can always come back to stock, like if you've never flashed a custom OS, so I would try it out, if you want I can guide you through the whole process on telegram
Short answer: Yes.
Longer answer:
Xiaomi seem to not be that good with speed & quality of updates. I haven't experienced many bugs myself but just the fact how slow updates are compared to custom ROMs and the fact that Magisk doesn't work properly on Stock made me just forget about it and flash a Custom ROM.
The question has to be asked.... What do you want you don't already have?
If a custom rom offers a feature you need then yes do it otherwise I have to ask why would you want to?

I guess rooting would be enough then. You can change both with magisk (or build prop settings afaik).
I liked LOS to try out something new but came back to stock. Now I am thinking of rooting again for bt volume.
Another great reason is camera2 for google camera. Way better than stock IMO
Better flash custom roms after xiaomi drops the updates. Like after a year Pie updates.
