What launcher do you use and why?
How about performance, animation, customize, unread count and other?
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA Free mobile app

I actually use the default TW launcher. Customize the grid size, slap a theme on - it seems pretty damn smooth this time around.
Action Launcher 3 is my go-to besides that. To me it's the Google Experience Launcher + the tweaks it needed.

Nova Launcher has custom resizable grids, custom scrollable dock, and a host of animations and is very fast.
But the reason I can't live without it is gesture support. I can double up every icon with two functions depending on tap or swipe up. I can do this on any icon, any folder (tap opens the folder, swipe up opens the most used app in the folder), and even the icons within the folders. I can pull down the shade from a swipe down motion from anywhere on the screen instead of reaching for it. Through the use of swipes, folders, and a resized grid, I have every shortcut I need on a single screen. I only scroll to the other screens for widgets.

Flow Home Beta. Because it's everything I need right there on my home screen without having to open multiple apps to get the same info.

We're already discussing that here:

This, plus LMT, is my approach as well.

As already mentioned, there is considerable overlap here with the discussion in this thread - let's try to keep the conversations unified and what not - thanks!

Use Samsung Widgets with Different Launchers

Hi,
I am currently looking at using either LauncherPro or ADW Launcher, but I have become accustomed to using the Samsung Feeds and Updates Widget and the Samsung Buddies Now widget. Is there any way I can place these widgets onto a screen in the alternate launchers? I saw in the apps section that someone has posted all the apk files for the different apps, but it seems they're system apps and I couldn't work out if there's a way to use them.
I hope someone can help!
I just asked the same thing in the Vibrant forum -- anyone?
I am using a Samsung Epic 4G. This phone is awsome and launcher pro makes it even more awsome. You can use tw launcher and some samsung widgets with launcher pro, in a round-about kinda way, because launcher pro gives you the ability to customize dock tray icons. This method will allow you to have upto 19 home screens or just the widget you want.
Make launcher pro you default launcher. This is important since you can not change the dock tray icons in the 2 stock launchers of the phone. Tap the 'home' button
On the dock tray bar choose an icon to change. ( I chose an icon on my main dock bar. you can have upto 15 dock tray buttons in launcher pro from what I can tell)
Long press that dock button til the option appears, "Edit dock shortcut".
Choose, "Change shortcut".
Now tap the launcher pro icon that says, "Activities".
Wait, it sometimes takes awhile for the activities menu to pop up.
After it opens you can scroll down and you see Buddies Now. Expand it and tap the buddies now widget control.
You now have a dock menu button that is probably easier to access than scrolling thru screens for Buddies Now.
After I did that, I thought, maybe I could change the dock button to launch TW launcher. So, I changed the buddies now icon to the TW launcher and changed another icon to the stock launcher. Now all I do is tap the TW launcher icon and my home screen there has the buddies now widget. I only need to tap the phone's home button to take me back to launcher pro and my default home screen.
Pretty cool. Thanks Launcher Pro. Launcher Pro Plus is well worth the $2 since it allows you to size widgets.

adw launcher - how do I get the 'drawer icon' back?

I'm using adw launcher on my Tab and since the last update, the 'drawer' icon in the middle of the dock has gone. It was initially replaced with the generic android app icon which prompted a 'not installed' message when tapped. I can drag and drop any other icon to that spot, and it works, but what I want is the original drawer icon back.
I've set the 'up swipe' gesture to open the drawer for now, but that just a workaround.
Any ideas?
Got me too, on my phone.
Longpress on a home screen like you were going to add a widget or change wallpaper, you should see "Custom Shortcut". Select it, pick the app drawer, it'll now be a shortcut icon on your home screen. Drag it down to where it belongs, and you're done. Until the next time it happens.
Hopefully, it'll get better soon.
For my Tab, I decided to go with LauncherPro, it's just a lot faster and smoother. Miss the ADW themes though.
Thanks. That worked.
I tried Launcher Pro, but the free version couldn't resize widgets, which makes it pretty unusable for me.

But the paid version lets you do it visually, on the fly. And comes with a few nice widgets of its own. Pro-tip, if you enable the "Motorola Droid Hack" in General Settings, it's even smoother, because it's using some basic GPU hardware acceleration features, and the Tab has the same family of GPU (PowerVR) so it's compatible.

App menu changes?

Is there a way to put the apps in individual folders INSIDE of the app menu? Can I change the way it scrolls? I've seen some galaxy s phones scroll top to bottom, not on individual pages. Within touchwiz too. Just trying to see whats out there.
GO Launcher has folders in the app menu.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz
to the question about changing the way the app drawer scrolls... yes you can , just open up the app drawer and press the menu button. there you should see two options edit and list view ,just clock list view and itll change your items listed vertically scrolling up and down as opposed to the left and right horizontally defaulted to...if you wanna go back just do same thing but instead of list view itll say grid view just click that and youre golden. hope that helps
I don't think TouchWiz' List View is what you actually want. To get stock Android-style app drawer scrolling, you need to download another launcher entirely. ADW Launcher and LauncherPro are by far the best ones available.
With ADW you can choose between the TouchWiz/iPhone-style scrolling and Android-style; LauncherPro only does Android-style. Other than that they each are fantastic in their own right, with tons of customization options. And if you choose to pay for a premium version of either one, LauncherPro gives you some awesome widgets while ADW EX gives some awesome new 3D homescreen scrolling and customization options.

A MUST HAVE APP FOR THE NOTE (big screen devices)

Hello Status Bar.
Use a button to pull down the notification bar !!
Very handy with this BIG ASS screen.
Put it everywhere you want .....

Nice sharing but its not necessary to ''touch'' notification bar to pull it down.
If you ''touch'' anywhere in screen and scroll a little bit down, notification bar will be appear..

Another option is Go Launcher Ex.
It enables you to configure gestures for the dock icons.
One of these options is to bring down the notification bar.
Just putting it out here in case peopel wanna know...
very cool all...just put it in my dock...thanks

I've been using Go Launcher for over a year, and this is the first time I realized I could do this.

Some other launchers such as Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher Ex and Go Launcher Ex to mention a few let you set gestures for various things such as the notification bar. So no, the stock launcher isn't the only launcher for this gesture
I prefer setting ADW's swipe down on homescreen gesture for opening Notification tray myself...
I have used gestures since... forever?
I have no idea why this isnt added to the assorted skins or even vanilla Android. It makes so much sense.
I have my gestures setup so that swipe up = open app drawer, swipe down = open notification bar.
Another advantage of this is it means not having to have an app drawer icon on your dock, leaving more room for quick access icons.
Speaking of dock... another pro tip for GO Launcher EX users. Long press on an icon in the dock and hit 'gesture'. Voila - your dock icon can now perform another action by swiping up on the icon instead of just tapping it. Your 5 bar dock is now 10 actions.
I love GO Launcher.
yes, go launcher ex , use its swipe for notification. But it has alot of good functions too
Just another unneeded app running in the background? No thank you

I installed GO Launcher EX on Christmas on my EVO & it is so much faster & cooler now that I think I can wait to see the SGNote hardware in a US store as long as it's Q1 2012 (as EVO's video camera still sucks & Note does obviously have cooler abilities but would ideally like to try it in my hand first). No fan of TouchWiz here & would likely be using GO Launcher EX on Note.

[Q] ADW launcher messed up

Hi, i was wondering how I go about fixing the ADW launcher, bottom middle of the screen with the 3 icons (star for trash, app launcher , and browser). I managed to get Glownooter 1.5.26 installed and the part 2 zip file. All is well, but somehow managed to drop some icons here. Now I have 3 stars across the bottom and they all do the same function.I didn't want to reprogram it just to fix this one issue. I can get to the apps and the browser ok, just not from the launcher now.
Thanks in advance..
Personally, I just turn off those bottom icons things. I don't get the point.
Under ADW Settings >> UI Settings >> Main Dock Style, set it to "None".
Long press on a blank place >> Launcher Actions >> Open/Close App Drawer will create an icon.
Drag things from the app drawer onto your desktop and you are done.
Drag things onto the silly bottom icons (if you still want them) and they will be changed.

Have you tried dragging other apps from the app drawer on top of them? I think you can also long-press those icons to drag whatever's there to the trashcan that pops up if you just want to be rid of them.
