This is a shame for Sony z3 - Xperia Z3 General

This is a shame for Sonja, this phone they sell us to 750e, 5 times I have so far sent in for service, pokvatio the speakers, then down, then flipped out back panel, there were 3 days with the service here is now aopet isto.dali it really worth so much, I hope that no one will buy more of this crap phone

and it's a phone resistant to water, and quality,,,no koment

Yeah they definatly screwed up the waterproof of the phone. Id say talk to the repair facility again and tell them the repair isnt good enough. Either fix it properly or give you a brand New phone.

Cool story...

Yeah I think you're just unlucky I've had my z3 since launch day and it's been perfect including putting it in water.

Yeah they definatly screwed up the waterproof of the phone.

i have the same. Problems at all sony's. Cuz the glue on backcover is very bad..

I'm not having this issue with my Z3 at all
It's perfectly solid

I have experience bad after sales service also. Just call them to replace one new phone for you. My case is worst than you, my phone is kept at service center for 1 month.

You are not alone, N77NS. I have similar gap issues with the white Z3 my GF has--it is more noticeable on white phones than black. Sony's QA on this phone is one of the worst!

My pressure test says my phone isn't waterproof anymore. It's at 1009.xx with the decimals going up and down only. Back looks like it's peeling off, 1 side is not flush.

I bought my Z3 here in Singapore. Looks solid. No problems at all.

Just two tips:
Top speaker is prone to get damaged on max volume so no ClearAudio+ and no EQ and no S-Force Surround and keep it max on level 14 and you should be fine for a long long time...
Display is prone to get permanent bright spots if you press it a bit hard (tight pocket...).
Just my tips for getting longer happy time with Z3...

My simple question is: can you give us a prove that the max volume with ClearAudio+ may (or will) harm the loudspeaker ?
We are in XDA here and we respect each other here.. No need to talk like this

And as you see you don't like same as I didn't liked yours...
We are cool now, well about proof I told you it happend to me and to few people that posted this on various forums including official Sony one...
Nobody is forcing you to take advice wich is by the way in good intention and could not do any harm to you...take it or leave it...it is same as you ask for proof can flashing of ROM kill your device...it can...

I'm cool but you wasn't... I just said Even nokia 2005 devices had safety procedures to protect the louder speakers.. So it's not making sense when you say Z3 2014 device speakers may affected if we use maximum volume with ClearAudio+.. And this Sony who we are talking about.. They are making speakers since maybe 30 years ago.. of course I'm talking about stock sound system..

New future owner. Phone coming next week. One question.

Hello everybody.
My name is Lorin and I'm an owner of a 2 months old HTC Touch Pro 2 and I'm thinking of getting the HD2 this week or the beginning of the next week.
I'll keep both phones because i like to have a physical keyboard but i want that huge screen and that speedy processor.
Anyway, i looked on xda for solutions to all the issues mentioned in reviews and by users and i found everything except one thing.
In this review (www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXV_-BUpLy4 , min 13:30), Trent says the speaker quality is really bad when the volume is at the maximum value.
I want to ask you guys if you have the same experience because this would definitely be a no go for me. I mean, the speakers on the TP2 are just amazing... and i know i can't get that on the HD2 but what i hear in the review is simply bad.
Thanks.
Very bad earpiece quality for me. Backspeaker audio quality is mediocre. There are too many threads with Polls. You can have a look. cheers.
it is bad.. HTC doesn't care much about camera and speakers.. dunno why! but ever htc phone that i have owned has these two problems.. i mean there are are very cheap Chinese phones (less than 50 bucks) which have excellent speaker than the ones on htc..
Thanks guys. How's the experience when you watch a movie? When high pitch sounds come in do you hear the speaker making funny noises?
Personally, I think the speaker is great. I have never turned it up to the maximum as at halfway its almost too loud anyway. At halfway I've found the sound to be crisp and better than most dumbphone's speaker. I've also had no problems with the earpiece either.
I think it depends on what batch you get. There seem to be some HD2s with a couple problems and others like mine that don't have any issues.

Agreed.
The sound on mine is good from both the front and the rear. It varies from phone to phone/user to user.
for me the speaker when watching movies an stuff is fine (the external one) but the one when makings calls.... very bad.. very bad indeed! but its still usable. and to be honest its not something i wouldnt purchase the phone for, no way. there`s just too many pro`s why you should buy it. if you get this phone.. you will not be dissapointed.

Yeah but what does take to produce good voicecall quality other than paying 1000$ ? We really payed to much for that device and we shouldn't be annoyed by such a silly annoying crappy earpiece.
I love mine, own an iphone 3gs aswell but its the hd2 that i carry round most.. love it.
Better than my old omnia hd
Coming from a 13 year Nokia history the earpiece is no where near as good, but it serves it's purpose.
I see (hear) no problem with the sound (speaker and earpiece) on the HD2. But I agree with those who think they got the "bad ones from the bunch". The speaker, the earpiece and a lot of other bits and bobs on the HD2 serve their purpose very well. If you want amazing sound I recommend you buy a Hi-Fi system. Good pictures - buy a proper 10 or 12 MPix camera. Recording video - by a proper, HD video camera. GPS - get a standalone machine. But if you want all-in-one with very, very acceptable quality, go for the HD2. Ah, stick in a proper Micro SD Card and you can also have thousands of songs and videos on the go! You really cannot go wrong with it

i agree. we should be getting outstanding!!! call quality for the price these things cost, luckily for me i`m on contract so i havent paid out the £500 or so they cost to buy. i do feel sorry for the people who have bought one and are having real problems with call quality though, it seems to differ with different people i`v noticed. for me its bad, but not bad enough to send my phone back. me personally, i can get over the call quality. i got the phone for all the other qualitys about it really as well, and there are lots!!!! making phone calls is waaaaaaaaaaaay down the list! lol (that doesnt sound right somehow does it! considering i`m talking about a phone! lol)
With my HD2:
Call quality is excellent, the sound through the earpiece is VERY VERY GOOD.
The rear speaker is very loud and sounds metallic (=bad) at max volume. At lower volume, it's good.
It's still better than most other speakerphones I know but not as good as the TP2.
All in all, it delivers what you can expect from a 600€ smartphone. Better than most others.

The Touch HD will clip a little if turn to max volume, but no way I will claim it as bad at all. I don't think HD2 will worry me about speakers or camera!!

Xperia X10 Pre-Purchase Questions

Hi,
My current handset has been repaired numerous times and as such my network has offered to replace it with a different model, either an Xperia X10 or an HTC Legend. I'm a little stuck on which to choose, however, I've read several reviews that describe the X10 as having poor screen sensitivity and a low call volume. I'd be interested in the perspective of someone who has an X10. Are these really issues and if so have any of them been improved with a recent firmware update?
Thanks, Simon

poor screen sensitivity ?? I don't think so... it must be due to the screen protector se applies them not an issue for me..
yeah the low call volume is a issue right now..
if its HTC Desire then grab it. it is the latest version of HTC than legend otherwise chose x10. just my opinion. still, the choice is yours.
I went into a couple of mobile shops over a period of a week or so to play with HTC Desire and X10. I have seen good and bad reviews on both as far as battery life and in call volume so I was really unsure which was to go.
In the end it came down to the user experience and looks.... for me the X10 won hands down. Its not the perfect phone as you will see from some of the threads but you will see just as many people having problems on the HTC forums too.
The battery life improved greatly with the use of Juice Defender and using a task killer and then improved again with the most recent firmware update. The call volume isn't a huge issue as I use the phone in my car via bluetooth and its fine. The odd call I have received when I am out and about have been fine.
The screen issue is not an issue! It was fine before better since the upgrade. I have my own scratch protector on (cos I was dumb and didn't know there was one on there anyway - d'oh) and I don't have any problems with it.
The only thing I have changed is that I installed the HTC_IME keyboard because I prefer that for texting as it gives you a numeric/T9 option which I am still faster at than the qwerty.
I am loving my phone and with the planned software releases it should only get better and better.
Legend is so bad compared to the x10
Sensitivity isn't a problem at all, the call volume is lower than I had on my xpressmusic .. but to the legend, I dunno really.
If I where you, I would go for the x10, you will simply love it,
Besides if you look at the spec sheet, the x10 wins for sure.

I have an x10 and my wife has a Legend.. The legend suits her.. cos it just works and we didn't need to do anything with it... Now that I don't have any battery usage problems i would not consider swapping it at all.. there is nothing about the Legend that I prefer over the x10..
xperia come with a protector, i apply another layer on top of it. It still response quite well.
My screen sensitivity on my X10 is amazing. And the white one is so beautiful to look @). If you dont mind waiting for SE to finally update the firmware to at least 2.1 , then I would definitely choose the Xperia X10. About the battery, my wife has an iphone 3g and my battery lasts longer than hers, of course you should turn off things you arent using such as wifi and it will last longer. As for the legend I have no experience with it so I dont know if its a better phone however I do know it cant be prettier than th x10
Simple Choice
Do yourself a favour dont waste your money, get an X10 and have the sweetest looking handset out, forget about the bad press as all these little foibles that the buyers have been grumbling about (you cant please *****es) as these will be sorted and a good few of them have been already, pretty soon we will be getting Android 2.1 (with a few added pleasures curtesy of SE, as Android 1.6 isnt a standard Android 1.6, its a customized SE version of Android so im speculating that when 2.1 comes it too will have that extra SE vava voom) and lets not forget the added bazinga bonus of having HD photo and video capture (a real bonus for all the homemade porn directors muhahahaha) so stop the grumbling pleeeeeaaaase, Iphone sux and HTC is ugly while the X10 rocks, just hold on for a little while (and since most of you have waited longer for some action from your girlfriends) it will be over in a flash but worth the wait!!!!! muhahahahaha
hm.. i am thinking about purchasing the x10 , i currently have the xperia x1, just windows is too laggy and too buggy at this point
I just wanted to ask what other phones did people think about before getting the x10 and do u regret getting the x10?

Sure sure .... ignore the problems because it looks good.
(You can get a Fanboy to accept any problem)
I just bought a X10i on Ebay to use on T-Mobile USA and I can't wait for it to get here. I have been on my black G1 from the first pre-order and now its time to change phones. I know that this phone is only on 1.6 but I have been watching it from the jump and now that it has root, I know its only a matter of time before it has custom roms. I can wait and use 1.6 for now as this is still a big upgrade in phones for me. My G1 has 2.2 but that small screen is killing me. So I can't wait to be part of the Sony X10 Family of owners!
Devs thanks for all the hard work on the rooting and porting of roms.
Fanboy!!!!
LOL Fanboy......not exactly, i think most of you guys want a phone with laptop ability, thats not what these phones are, and all the handsets have problems, its a matter of choice, but seriously the only problem im having at the minute is the low call volume, but using my handsfree has negated that particular issue, im not fussed by multi touch either, dual touch would be nice though as i have two thumbs and i like to use both (apparently this might be forthcoming with 2.1), i havent messed with my handset in anyway apart from debranding so i could install RB020, my 3g works, my email works, my texting works, my mms works, my camera works, my gps works, my googlemap works, my walkman works as does my video player, everything works as it should, i dont want a mobile that tries to be an all singing all dancing technophiles dream, i just want a nice capable handset with some modern functions and i have that, a device that lets me keep up to date with my social calender and contacts, lets me communicate and when i feel like it take nice pictures and yes i want a nice looking handset, people need to remember these are just for communication on the go, if your at home/office use your desktop or laptop, but if your out these phones have everything you need unless you want to sit and be a boring twit and sit on your handset while everybody else is having a good time, nuff said
hi there.... i m not confused in terms of which phone to go for..... itz ofcourse the x10..... but i m really confused with which colour should i go for????? black or white????? cant decide.... appreciate ur feedbacks...
how should i charge the battery whn i get it?? fully drain the battery thn charge or charge fully first???
also wanna knw, the white got a glossy finish. is it easy to get scratches thn the black one?
Hey buddy..since uv made up your mind about x10, I won't go gaga over y u shud buy it..
So, black n white..hmmmmm....
I was in d same dilemma 4 days back..
Black has a rubberized back but white looks catchy.
Yes back panel of white is glossy but u can olways opt for a matte invisible skin for d back..or a back panel..
And for the front looks..white ftw..
In case, it is not clear yet..I went for the white one and I love it..

thnks for ur feedback @viditkalra...well i have made my mind....... going for the white one.... would like to knw how much did itcost u in delhi???
hey..it costed me 27.6k + a free reebok bag pack and a local cover for E71 and mobile store 2nd year warranty.
i purchased it from mobile store, karol bagh.
I would advice you to not buy from gray market.
buy from mobile store..they are offering a nice price for the handset.
and do let me know if u find any custom back panels or a nice leather cover for our device somewhere in india(pref. Delhi)..i am unable to find anything good.
finally i got my X10 (white)..... loving it...... well i bought it frm sony's showroom in mumbai..... the retail price was Rs 27950.... since i bought a x10mini pro for my dad day b4 yesterdy frm the same shop thy offered me 27000 if i m paying cash... but unfortunately i had ma credit card, so it cost me 27.5k with a nice leather case inside the box
congrats buddy...
now get on to the market and start downloading stuff.,.....
also, do lemme know if u can score any back cases or a nice leather cover for our device..the ones on ebay.in aint that nice.
and i heard about someone doiung a carbon fibre vinyl on n1 and evo..i think v can do the same on x10..but unsure as to i should do it or not..as i am sceptical if the vinyl would leave a sticky residue or not..

Bye guys... Got me a galaxy S2, very impressed. Wow

My X10, Crapped out on me a few days ago. I've wanted the galaxy S2 for a long time, so I made a deal with my career. and I couldn't be happier.
The speed and screen resolution on this thing is amazing on this phone.
Even the little things that Samsung thought about: Task manager, file manager, the fact that you can add a pattern lock and don't have to slide to unlock, the music controls in the notifications, the voice call controls in the notifications, the timer/stopwatch included in the clock, the neat graphics when you cut-n-paste is cool and even the magnifier when selecting text. This really shows Samsung's attention to detail. Now I see why this phone is so popular.
And thank god no more timescape bloat ware.
Sorry but Sony has a lot to catch-up to. I don't think even their Sony S will be on par with the S2

There is no comparison between the X10 and the S2(it's a beast). But the X10 was my last Android phone....

And I'm not just referring to the hardware, it's also all the things I listed above, that Samsung has thought about that Sony for some reason didn't.
well,
Samsung will be ahead everytime of sony giving great specs and hardware with lots of features.
Sony will always try to give you the feel of a phone with its innovative designs and features.
I mean my x10 has survived so much in rain, it falls off frequently(very hard) and still not a scratch on its screen. I can bet S2 cant survive those falls.
I know some users like phones slim and light but I personally like them strong, sturdy and good design(which Sony/SE offers).
For me surely whenever my next phone will be it will be sony
Sony puts out amazing phones, but they are always behind when it comes to the latest version of android. I cant lie though Sony phones are original and sexy.

See my nationality first, buddy!!
Samsung Galaxy S2 is good but screen's durability is the problem as a lot of users started reporting in Korea....
I really don't like Samsung's plastic body even light because of that and, design (Samsung has no design at all) compare to Sony and HTC.
If new ?
Product made in China also good.... Samsung is in alert because of China, not because of HTC or Sony...
Really want to know for hardware built quality ? Should see after 1~2 years like cars...
Design...
Well, Samsung has no design at all compare to Sony and HTC....
For me, HTC is the best, very solid, friendly to developers + well developed fast Sense UI (TW is sucks!)..
I bricked 8 phones until now during heavily flashing custom roms, 7 units were Samsung....
Even one day, flashing several different roms to test for each unit but only Samsung's phone cannot stand this stress until cannot power on !!as my continue re-booting test So now, I am scare to flash several roms per day to test and comparison for Samsung devices.
Even stock rom,
Lots of users claim for screen.... mostly some part of touch screen's sensor stops working..
No matter what, design of Apple, no one can beat.... integration and stability of iOS software, no need to mention...
In Android ? We have Sony who not only focus of hardware quality but for unique UI (Timescape), too.
Nowadays... handphone is almost same price with Notebook (for me, still cannot accept, that's why I never bought new one in my life, if need to buy Samsung 2ndhand, alway buy units which still under warantee remained...) so I need something more than only PERFORMANCE, like HTC and Sony...
Well, my personal opinion for FUN only ~~

But I do have to admit my X10 fell a lot of times and no damage to the screen(that was impressive)

Who uses TimeScape?! It's just bloatware.
And I'm not talking about putting different ROMS. I'm purely speaking from a stock point of view. Samsung has done a better job thinking about all the little things vs Sony.
My X10 flew out of a moving var and lived to tell the tale. Don't ask me how it's embarrassing... Lmao

Any idea when they releasing?
There probably won't be a XZ with SD800. They'll go for Honami and no one knows when it;ll be released, rumors are around September. I knew most of the stuff that Honami will have, but i still bought XZ. For me it's an almost perfect phone and it's the most beautiful one i've seen. The only downside are the viewing angles, but yea, who looks at the phone from the sides? Sony have released great updates, which fixed most of the software issues, like lag, camera quality, screen calibration, heat issues. And we have great roms, now even with leaked apps from Honami, including X-Reality, and they aren't that different.
The most important thing to ask yourself is Am I happy with XZ? My answer was Hell yea! so I bought it
Maybe, you mean, you r wating for one sony, which is known as Xperia il. It features SD800 and a G camera sensor.
But in my opinion, whatever S4pro or SD800, the performance is enough for daily using. And one thing you should notice that higher frequency of cpu makes the phone more hot when it is running under the high performance.
whatever time you buy a phone there will always be another that will come out later that will be better lol
personally I love the xz, better build quality than s4 and not constantly overheating like HTC one.

Glass cracks? Never heard to be caused by GPS or speaker. I am careful with the phone, no issues so far. But of course i've read people have problems, like dead pixels and bulge on the back glass near the camera. These are of course hardware faults, so the phone will be replaced. Every phone has some of those (not the same, just faults). I've read about the glass cracks too, and have no idea why it has happened, but as far as i know Nexus 4 had similar issues, because it has a glass back too. And Honami may have it too. It's better to get the phone from a safer store, i mean for the warranty. That's why i got mine from a Sony Center, it was a higher price, but i don't have to worry if anything happens.

i dont have a sasmsung phone but atleast samsung users dont have to root their phone to listen to music properly
admit it sony screwd up the xperia z they suck in software
except the design everything is crap about this phone
and btw i have the xperia z

My sad Xperia Z2 story.

My story is much and boring , but please endeavour to read and suggest solutions for me. Here goes the story: As a longtime iOS user, I decided to take android os on a spin, and after watching several reviews and much of info seeking, I decided to try out the sony coz I believe its the only android that has a quality build next to iPhones. I also considered other brands like samsung and htc,bt none suited my need(besides I hate samsung and touchwiz with passion?)
Anyways I decided to buy the xperia z3 but the its waaaay too expensive here in my country, so I traded-in my one-year old iPhone 5 and a samsung galaxy tab 3 8.0 that was given to me as a gift just to get xperia z2,coz i came to learn that it has no much difference with the z3, besides the z2 has a larger battery. And so I did, got the xperia z2 last week and I must admit, it looks gorgeous. The screen is awesome!! However, I'm still facing some issues that frustrates me all the time about this phone to an extent of making me regret buying the phone, but I'm hoping that I can get solutions to the problems so as to enjoy the phone to the fullest!! ?
1. Call quality issues: This is undoubtedly the most annoying one. My girlfriend always complain that she cant hear me well whenever we are talking on the phone, and that breaks my heart alot! I mean a buying such an adorable phone with a premium price tag and yet cant even enjoy a good call quality is a miss!! I did some research on the problem and learnt that its quite a common problem with the z2, and as a user on the forum suggested, I flashed the .314 (4.4.2) firmware on it and the problem has reduced a little bit, not completely thou. Its even worse on 4.4.4(which it came out with out of the box).
Q]Could it be a software related problem? Or perhaps hardware? Is there any workaround about it? Will the lollipop update fix this issue??
2. Camera: "xperia 2 has one of the best camera out there" as stated by many reviewers, but thats not true as far as I'm concerned. Yes it has a massive 20.7 mp but honestly I still miss the camera on iphone. The images z2 takes are somewhat blurry and has lots of noise, they aren't as crispy sharp as that taken by an iphone. Could have tempered with the manual mode, bt im not a photograph expert. Can someone walk me through? ☺
3. Battery: Well, I can't complain much about this coz z2 has the best battery on any smartphone iv ever owned. That said, when I got it the first few days, the power management estimated about 2 days of usage and I was super happy about that, now after few days it only shows 1 day at most. Could something have gone wrong?
4.Heating issues: Seems like this is one of the most complained about issue regarding the xperia z2. Even though I have not experienced any severe overheating case that will hinder its usage, the device still get warm on average usage and that feels abit uncomfortable to the palm. Although I understand it has a glass back panel so it will conduct much heat. Iv already ordered for a case, hopefully that will solve my heating problem.
Thats pretty much it guys. I hope I will get some solutions from you. Thanks
(PS: 1.Sorry about my english 2. I can't return the device back to place of purchase coz I got it from a local retailer. 3. And oh! Its the D6502 model running 4.4.2 .314)
Thanks

Like I mentioned above, it came with the latest firmware out of the box which has the worst call quality problem. So I had to downgrade to find ease. Reccomend any ftf specifically?
I think its an old update 4.4.4 is the latest
And by the way iphone is a different species compared to android so i think the hardware components is much more different thats why you can't find what iphone's cam to a xperia
On calls maybe it about the network
1. Call quality issues: Yes, this problem is there since the microfon is at the bottom of the phone. Its not a software problem, i also having the problem when talking with someone. The solution i made, talking with my hand covering the microfon OR i had to use a handsfree. This is Sony mistake of the build Z2(bottom microphone). Sad, theres no other solution.
2. Camera: Dont have much problem about the camera. Yeah, we have some people reported that the camera was abit lag from the previous sofware version, but the camera is still good and i dont have much problem about it. About the noise, i also dont hv so much problem. I can take picture well and ive compare my picture with my brother's iPhone 5s, and yet he said my picture taken from my Z2 is more better then his iphone.
3. Battery: Depend how u use your phone, but for me this device has the best battery life ever! Im also a heavy type user, but 1-2 days is already enough for me.
4.Heating issues: This is normal when u always playing games or multitasking with non-stop usage of ur phone. I dont experience this problem coz im not playing game with my phone.
I hope this will help you a little. :fingers-crossed:

Really?? Never knew there could be another location for microphone apart from the bottom, except for the one above which is used for video recording. Pardon my noobness. So is bottom not the ideal location for a microphone?
With the call quality, I have experienced a lot of problems. Some say turning off noise suppression helps. Personally the best fix I have found is using a custom ROM (eXistenZ) as niaboc79 provided a fix what works (Sony, you could learn a lot from the community).
Re: Mic location. With how big the phone is it is stupid how low down Sony positioned the mic. A better place would have been next to the bottom speaker (the sides) or just above the bottom speaker. It really needs to be higher up and on the front side (like the low price phones they make)

Sorry, i think u missunderstood what i mean actually. I cant explain it clearly to u, my english is so bad. Look at the Z3 main mic, at the front-bottom instead the Z2(bottom-bottom). The Z3 mic more closer to our mouth when we speak. So when talking on the phone, voice from the Z3 is more easily to be hear then the Z2. I hope this will explain, otherwise i need someone to help me. Sorry for my bad english. :fingers-crossed:

That microphone location on the Z3 likely due to complaints from the Z2 users. I think everyone including me didnt expect this the day we bought it. Right?
I had to turn off the noise suppression on my z2 as the volume is low as well.

Wow! i never thought anything will make me flash a custom rom on a snappy and fast ui like that of xperias(its fast and responsive ui is actually one of the reasons why i went for the sony)....but if doing so will bring an end to my nightmares then im all in.
Ok i have a few questions for you please coz i want to be sure im doing the right thing before i proceed....

And the fix you were talking about,is it based on your personal experience or it was stated in the changelog?
If it happens im going to flash the rom,i will definitely need a backup, can you please suggest any automated way of doing so? coz i have lots of apps and apps data on the internal storage. I would prefer a general backup and restore that will return the phone contents to their former places like nothing has happened,
Thanks alot

That's the right ROM. The fix was first provided by niaboc79 in v3.1.0 (I think) or maybe it was an add on. Either way I flashed the file what contained the fix as people kept complaining they couldn't hear me. From then on I have had no problems at all, I think the fix was also included in every version since the fix was provided.
Titanium backup is by far the easiest way to backup your data. Back it all up to the external SD card (this can be done in tb. Menu>Preferences>Backup Folder Location>Navigate to the external SD card and create a new tb folder. Upon installation of the ROM you can install tb and then restore your backups (you may need to re-navigate to the tb backup folder in tb).

Woow this is great. Thanks alot mate. I will flash at my leisure and report back.:good:
About the other caller not hearing you, if it doesn't work you should replace your phone, if you bought it new. I read that call quality was a problem in some earlier models,, the same problem that you and I experienced.
When I went to buy mine in the store, they had 2 available. I got one, put my sim card in it, and called someone, who told me that they can't hear me very well. Without leaving the store, because I wanted to return it right away, I tried disabling noise suppression, playing with the volumes, but nothing worked. I got the other available Z2, made a call, the other person said they could hear me fine, so I got that one. Unfortunately, this one also has problems, the lower speaker is distorting a bit at higher volumes (no sound mods), but I only found that out at home. I may replace it again someday.
So I say it's just poor build quality, and if the existenz rom doesn't work for you, you should try to get it replaced by the shop or Sony. We shouldn't be the ones trying to repair mistakes that Sony made. Nonetheless, I really love this phone.

Several things you can try in order to understand the problem better:
Try a headset, just to see whether the problem is to do with the mic (software or hardware).
Try a recording software to see what it sounds like for yourself. Try different environments, noisy and quiet.
Try talking over Hangouts for example to see if the quality is any different.
There's a setting for the amount of noise suppression applied, try the quiet environment setting or turning it off completely.
I guess you are probably unlucky, as I've never had people complaining to me about the voice quality.

If tried recording with an app and it was superb so I suppose its not a hardware issue.
Anyways I have flashed the existenz rom and I'll be testing for the next couple days, although so far so good. I really hope lollipop update will bring a fix to this, sometimes I prefer to remain stock.
Call quality... I've never had anyone complain about not hearing me properly on mine so I can't help you. It could just be that you have a small head and so the mic placement at the very bottom doesn't help you at all lol.
Camera.... The superior auto mode is notoriously poor. It usually cranks up the iso and exposure producing very noisy photos. To get the best results, use it with manual controls. It's not difficult. You have the basic settings. Exposure, white balance or colour temperature, and iso.
For exposure, you can leave it at default most of the time only adjusting when really needed.
White balance has five options. Auto which I strongly recommend not using in daylight. Use the sunny or cloudy options.
The key really is ISO, this is where the auto mode does most of its damage by cranking the value way to high.
Under daylight and florescent lighting, use the lowest value of 50 mostly but no higher than 100. For incandescent lighting say coming from a bulb or lamp, use iso 200. ISO is basically the sensors sensitivity to light, the higher this value the more luminescent noise is present. In general, never go above 400 unless you're in a really dark room and don't want to use the flash. And when you use 400 it's advisable to drop the exposure value down a notch or two or three lol
Its really simple, just play around with the settings. In order words adjust them until what you see in the viewfinder closely resembles the scene you're trying to take.
Unfortunately the Sony auto software doesn't come anywhere close to that on the iPhone but with manual controls, it spanks the iPhone. It's a great camera especially on 4.4.4 which I recommend you return to. Maybe hold the phone higher up when calling so your mouth is closer to the mic.
Overheating hasn't been a problem for me for a while especially after 4.4.4. There was the 4k problem but that's largely resolved. I can shoot 10 min videos no problem now.
Battery life as you said is excellent even though worse on 4.4.4 but I believe that's because of the increased brightness. On older firmware, it maxed out at 420 nits but now it goes up to 520 nits. Also the z2 unlike the z3 has a very warm and colourful panel. Probably the most colourful lcd panel ever produced and that takes it toll on battery as well. That's probably why Sony toned things down considerable with the z3 series to make good their 2 day promise but I hate cold displays and one of the main reasons I'd always recommend the z2 over its newer sibling. Well that and the fact that it's camera is also more consistent at focusing in lower light and the fact that it's much cheaper.
