[SHARE] Good Kernel Tweaks for S4 Mini - Galaxy S 4 Mini General

Hey guys,
For me, I UC the GPU to the lowest freq possible (192mhz) and CPU to max 1Ghz (and min 192mhz). My CPU governor is on Smartmax and I/O is in FIOPS. I also enabled Multicore saving to increase battery life. And well, what can I say 4hrs of continuous use and im on 54â„…. 4hrs includes playing a DS emulator for 15 mins, asphalt 8 for 30 mins and another 30mins for YouTube watching
**Some things to note is that I always switch my phone to airplane mode (since i got not SIM for now). I also turned off Wifi and Sync (in power control widget) before I set off to play any game. I also have a habit of learing the recents list too. Furthermore, Asphalt 8 is in Very Low graphics (since idl fancy graphics) and it runs little to no lag
So don't be stingy Do share with the community regarding tweaks you guys made to your devices kernel and share you experience

V6 or nothing.
I don't need this app since I use DiXperia 2 ROM. Super smooth even with millions widgets installed.
Prefer stock for the official support and this app is helpful for gaming lag/etc.
Prefer this app to v6
I remember seeing Juwe11 post a ram script and it was hell popular last time too. Why is it accused of being a copy now?
i downlaoded the pro version, switch to hard gamming, and i still have the same performance on dead trigger, a bit laggy and with some frame drops, im running the game on the lowest setting

Zep (the creator of V6) claims RMP stole some numbers and OOM fixes he used for his script. Which is why V6 wont even install if you have RMP somewhere installed.

All of this is just placebo until numbers can be shown, and even then its not for sure. Even Antutu can be + or - 1000 points depending what cycle the moon is in (joke), but yeah I believe 90% of the scripts out there don't do anything useful at all. I've never noticed a difference. Even the bravia engine is a joke, unless you side by side a hi res picture, you really aren't going to notice difference.
In past, i used this. And i think that is placebo effect, like others. No real or significant results.

To be honest, I don't think people can win. If they start a new topic about something then they are told to use the search as the topic already exists elsewhere but then if they do use the search and find a relevant topic then they are told its too old. How can you win?
In my opinion, if the topic is relevant, the age of the thread shouldn't matter. Its much better to have an old thread with a lot of contributions to it than the same thread posted 100x over.
i hate all that placebo think they love to play with our mind....lol, like the volume control apps, that gains bout 120% of volume gain...lol not true

[Guide][CM9][Easy-to-do] Performance Boost

Found and tested some init.d tweaks for CM9 for me it worked marvelous used in minicm9 nightlies sept.14
How to use:
Part 1
1.Flash latest naa ics kernel
2.download latest nightlies
3.download the attached file
4.extract files to destop
5.drag the 2 ini.d tweaks to rom's init.d folder
(system/etc/init.d)
6.save
7. Debloat the rom (remove unnecessary apps on system apps folder) (optional)
8. put rom to sd then flash
Part 2(more tweak)
1.open rom and go to to /system/lib/egl/
2.Open the file named "egl.cfg"
3.Delete the first line"0 0 android" or something like that
4.Go back into the egl folder and delete libGLES_android.so
Settings that i used:
[email protected] 245-748mhz
cwm swap partition
KSM-on
Allow purging of asset- on
zRam- 26% (use 18 if you want more battery life)
force GPU rendering
allow mock location off (some say it makes battery last longer)
THE TWEAKS ARE NOT MADE BY ME. I'm just sharing
Credits:

then our phone will have only ICS but we cant play simple video even :'(
It works in Cm7 too, and for dialy use it is really good. It's not just making the phone usage smoother, but dramatically makes the battery last longer. It disables the Cpu rendering everywhere, and only the GPU do it, so the CPU can "concentrate" to calculations in the background processes. I use it since yesterday and started with 100% battery, and I can say it is true that battery is draining much slower.

I went through it. Apparently some of the scripts were optimized for the ACE. I have no problem, however, some of them are optimizing nothing. Example, some of them are optimizing CPU Governors that aren't in our X8's, like Ondemandx and lulzactive. If you want, I can help you make it more X8 friendly

The following quote explains it well :
I have a very valuable use for Mock Locations. I am a full-time RVer and travel the USA constantly. While traveling, GPS constantly tells me where I am. However, when i want to know the location of campgrounds for the night, search engines and apps like "Places" and "Where" will only search the area where GPS says I am NOW. Mock locations (using My Fake Location) allows me to search the area where I WILL BE later in the day by faking the GPS location. Works GREAT.

I don't use AOKP, but I'd use Trinity. It's familiar to me since I used it a bit on my Nexus 7 back in the day, has a fsync toggle, and I find KTManta has... a lot of settings (this really isn't a problem though for most people)
And its about to get a LOT more

Many people actually site the abundance of settings as KTManta's strongest feature. Case in point would be the fact that it seems to be the only kernel out there that has any sort of display calibration settings, although still considerably lacking. So from a performance standpoint the Trinity has an edge then?
They are both great kernels... We are lucky... You can't go wrong with either

Yes and no. At stock settings between both I think Trinity does have an advantage, because Im pretty sure 620MHz is the default speed for the GPU. KTManta is faster right now, but it also allows for higher clock speeds and has more options. But those higher speeds are not default on the KTManta kernel, you have to select them if you want to overclocked GPU on your tablet.
Both kernels have automatic RAM overclocks up to 866 MHz when you get to the higher GPU steps (above 533 speed), but KTManta will have in its next release (unless Ktoonsez and my tests say otherwise) up to 912MHz memory speed. But again, that wont be default as it is a high overclock setting. SO default to default, Trinity, but when fully tweaked out on both, KTManta is faster. There are some nice and easy settings pre-made to load in the tweaking app if you dont want to do the fully tweaked out settings yourself. Some really great member posted them on page 275 of the KTManta thread :silly:
i use ktmanta 03-02-13b with aokp
positive
- stability ( except inserting a device through otg )
- fast
- battery ok ( ktkoonservative , sio )
negatives
- gets too hot in games
- zen not working for me ( letters corruption)
- not compatible with pppoewidget drivers for my modem
Trinity kernel are very good for battery and coolness , except i can use them with my external hdd
New ktmanta are the best now for many ,i think, but for me gives instability problems ( restart when use the bar progress in a movie with mx player , restarts sometimes with the default settings )
Franco kernels are still imature for me .
They all are very good kernels from very inteligent developers so we are in good hands for this device . you should try it all . as many here saying - every device reacts different.

Is there a way to have individual core Control

Is there a way to have individual core Control clock speeds and governor if possible I'd prefer an app for obvious reasons (easier) I'm on cm10.1 5/9 nightlies
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Some of the rate governors (not all of them) let you select the maximum number of cores allowed to be online. Depends on the kernel, but in principle you can use Trickster Mod. While clocking on the Tegra 3 is quite flexible, I believe it is not possible to have separate G cores operating simultaneously with different clock rates.
That's lame the subject came up because I have it working on my Atrix HD AT&T but I think I'll try another kernel

Extra battery but more speed with a kind of stepping stone per say look at it like this using my dual core 1.5 ghz atrix hd as an example
Sleep one core and you run single core with lots of lag
But with this method you can under clock core 0 1ghz to and change the government to interactive use the second core as something to the n7 companion core take it way down farther let's say 600mhz with on demand or possibly conservative governor. That way the second core would come on in times of lag for a small push to end lag spikes and like I said works on my atrix quite well
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I think I would expect what you are describing to exhibit strange (pathological) behavior unless all of the rate governors are re-coded to collect their heuristics partitioned by processor thread affinity.
Does this also mean the 2nd processor is never off-lined? (They can drain a lot of juice even when underclocked due to static power dissipation issues, so it makes me wonder if the power savings is real)
Is the kernel development work for that device (Atrix HD) described anywhere by the implementer(s)?
A couple I couldn't point you to a definitive answer as I'm not a dev though it's defiantly someplace here on the forums even a kernel to look at

Are you talking about that script-ware by smokin1337? If so, it seems to (try to) work by forcing the second core to be on-line at all times, and then changing rate governors on a per cpu basis, not in the kernel but by continuously writing to each cpu entry in sysfs.
I peeked over in the Atrix HD forum and it seems it doesn't even have any working custom kernels yet...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40253686
That's the only kernel to my knowledge

@Franzferdinan51
Maybe you could throw me a bone - what exactly is it that you are using on your Atrix HD that does this? (Is it baked in to somebody's ROM, or a separate flashable patch)?
I *did* go searching over in the Atrix HD forum rather extensively.
Downloaded Codex01's "CM10.1PreformanceEnhancements-3.0.1" and looked in there - this doesn't do what you say.
Downloaded tcf38012's popcorn kernel and unpacked it and poked around - it also doesn't do what you say (lots of other tweaks tho).
Found a mention of something similar in posts by skeevydude. Downloaded smokin1337's "CPU Editor" for snapdragon - it was mentioned in passing in the Atrix CM 10.1 thread.
Am I just looking at the wrong things?
Anyway, everything that I've found so far that looks close to what you are describing writes control information to stuff in /sys/devices/system/cpu{/cpu0|/cpu1}/*
For what it is worth, that same (sysfs) stuff does exist in various N7 kernels - for instance, per-cpu entries for min/max frequencies and rate governors in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu{0|1|2|3}/cpufreq/.
So, maybe what I said first was wrong. Maybe the right answer should have been "kinda - maybe - sorta". I would have to understand the PLL schemes that different kernels use a lot better than I do to be definitive.
But I am still a bit skeptical that it actually produces the result that it claims - saving battery life by forcing two cores to be online at all times... without also affecting performance. And the part about two independent control loops affecting each other in pathological ways remains open as well (threads running on the other core with a different rate governor affect the measurement of the recent system load averages used by the second rate governor - and vice versa).
It would be useful to have a decent and repeatable way to benchmark interactivity - the first-person reports of "this is really smooth" or "lags badly" are always completely subjective and non-repeatable, so it is hard to know who to really believe when it comes to reports about this stuff.
cheers

Rooted Users: Underclock/Governors

Hi,
This thread is for discussing various governors/underclock settings on stock kernel for root users.
It looks like there are 4 governors on the stock kernel:
-interactive (default)
-ondemand
-userspace
-performance
Underclocking also works.
Because we do not have init.d support yet, I don't believe it's possible to set your desired clockspeeds/governor automatically on boot. But the settings can be accessed with pretty much any app like SetCPU, Voltage Control, System Tuner, etc. I use Voltage Control app.
I found the lowest I can underclock it without issues was 1134Mhz. Any lower and the active notifications would freeze sometimes. It seems with ondemand and 1134Mhz underclock it feels as snappy as the default config (1.7Ghz - interactive) but seems to use less battery and in some cases feels snappier due to more aggressive governor.
Post your findings/settings.
Init.d support might also be available as theres a app that gives init.d support try pimp my ROM from the play store, has the app bakes in and will verify if init.d support is working

I know the phone already gets awesome battery life, but
