[Q] App promotion via AdMob (bad conversion)

Hi guys...
I don't know where else to ask, so I thought maybe some of you guys could help me out.
A while ago I made a free2play online game, and published it on Play Market. After my game was gone frome the Top New Free chart, the downloads has dropped significantly, so I decided to advertise my app via AdMob.
After the game has been promoted to 40K users, I've had... 15 new downloads in total. I'm sure Google would not cheat, as there were lots of others that have promoted their apps this way. Also, the referral link I've been using is working fine as I checked it myself. But I decided to double-check and purchased 5000 banner-clicks from the guys that has an Android app with lots of users. And I've had 3 downloads out of that.
So I was wondering... Is it possible that due to some software, or locale, or hardware, or any other issues, something could prevent people from downloading my game over the refferal link? What could be those issues? Or is this a real conversion rate? If you had used AdMob, what conversion rate did you have?
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
I had a similarly bad experience on admob as well. I wouldn't advise promoting your app there unless you've got extra money to spare.
Also, I've realized that the type of ad you put on there will have an impact. If you choose their standard ad, you will get the benefit of double tap verification and avoid accidental clicks. If you put a custom ad, you will lose that safety feature because a single click will open up the referral link.
Try pay-per-install services
I have the same situation in Admob. My best experience was with AppBrain. You pay for installs not for clicks.
I got the same problem too but eventually solve it by switching from CPM to CPI. However, the incident made me wonder: "should I always depend on Admob?".
So I decide to combine several Ad networks. It works. And I realize something about Admob:
Pros: It is reliable and has huge users database. Admob is backed by Google - a prestigious corporation who tracks every steps of anyone who use its service.
Cons:
- Its eCPM is low (I don't know exactly why but everytime I try another Ad network, they outperform Admob in terms of eCPM. I guess that Admob know it has advantages over competitors when it comes to reputation and users database, so It charge advertisers and publishers more)
- Its ban users more frequently. (Some of my friends' accounts got banned because Google thinks they was cheating, while infact he didn't. It was very difficult for him to reach Google support to recover his accounts).
after combining Admob and with Airpush, Leadbolt, StartApp, ChartBoost, I end up with Adsota - a lesser known ad network. Adsota is an has much higher eCPM, 100% fill-rate, and swift payment, various advertisng forms. You can find it by googling "ads.appota".
Best of luck, mate!

Ads network with relevant ads

I always get in my app admob ads that are so irrelevant. No one would want to click them.
Is there any ads network that provides relevant ads like ads based on the user location - advertising businesses that are nearby the user?
Is there any other ads provider with relevant ads that would increase the chances of the user clicking the ad

Hey @johnDHD. You can have a look at Pollfish. Pollfish delivers highly targeted surveys through mobile apps, as a monetization solution based on users' previous answers.
How do you know what ads are served in different countries ? Maybe your app just doesnt focus users to click on ads.
In my experience, Adsota is good
I have used Admob and I agree with you that it is not really relevant. However, I have to admit that the mobile ads can not be really relevant because the targeting options are yet to be specific enough.
Well in my experience, you can try Adsota.
I'm not 100% sure whether it will improve your clicks but its eCPM is much better than Admob.
Personally, it improve the click for me.
You can find it by googling "Ads.appota".
Best luck, man.
Contextual targeting is a great concept, however is hard to develop. At Teads, we bucket advertising campaigns for the vertical your app is in meaning every ad is relatable to your audience.

Hey, I was just going through this forum and I came across your query. We have used several platforms for advertising and had dynamic experiences. Never the less, it all teaches you something. We have used Admob, bidderplace, etc and the best results I have achieved have been with Affle MAAS platform. Their attribution analytics based mobile marketing aids relevant ads to relevant traffic. You can see positive changes in your CPC model, if that is what you are pursuing. Visit their website and place your query, I am sure they will look into it soon. You could also use my reference since we have worked with them before, it might help.

[Q] Does anyone know a truly good Ads platform?

Recently I was trying hard to find a mobile ads platform however it ended up pretty frustrated. It seems non of them support keywords or demographic targeting except choosing categories(racing, action etc.), genders or ages. In the end I can only turn to Facebook or Twitter for a more specific targeting (people who loves multiplayer and fishing, etc.)
Do you have same problem with me? Does anybody know any mobile ads platform that can allow me target those features?
Thanks in advance!
What about adsense? Works pretty well for me.
I've just started a campaign with AdMob and Facebook. The facebook ads move really slowly for now (40 impressions/day) and the AdMob campaign hasn't been approved yet but I will post my results once I know more.
Admob
admob is probably the best , i also like adbuddiz , but admob gives the best revenue.
I would suggest choosing an ad network with good support, that might prevent problems from the start. Try AdMob or MillenialMedia. Mobfox is good as well!
We use Applovin, Chartboost and Vungle video ads. Admob is also a good choice.
Tried Adbuddiz, but were not so happy with perforance.

* try other ad networks through admob mediation, I have a good experience with the mmedia. This ad network gave three times more income than admob.
* make a paid version without ads.
You should check out NOTIFY.
We'd love to see if we could win your business. We have been working closely with all of our developer partners to drive more revenue for them. We have ad units for google play and even more aggressive ad units for alternative app-stores that developers request. See here: https://www.notifymob.com
Our eCPM numbers are outperforming other ad networks. Our support is fabulous and we strive improve daily.
FYI: Here's our start guide so you can see how easy it easy to integrate. Doesn't take much time at all. https://www.notifymob.com/quickstart.html

Best Tips for Android App Promotion

Hello, I’m here to share my thoughts and tips about the Android app promotion
Here are the most useful tips which I have learnt promoting my Android Apps:
1) Start promoting your App while it’s still developing.
2) Make an announcement about your Application in news break. List its pros, benefits, emphasize strong sides. It helps to warm up the user’s perception and become more loyal to the newly released application.
3) Maximize its effectiveness in your inner market. I mean it must stand out among the similar applications and become visible for users when they type its name in search line. ASO service will help you to be different and recognized – pay attention on title, description, screenshots, and presence of keywords.
4) Use SMM channel. Talk as much as possible about your application in social networks, thematic blogs and forums.
5) Maintain AdWords campaign – it would provide you solely target audience on your App installation.
6) Use incent traffic service which provide you installs and high rate reviews– it cost not much, but ensure inflow of organic audience.
7) If you have several similar application – not use the same marketing campaign – try different channels and test measurements.
8) Run the keyword install campaigns for the cheapest rankings growth and raise your organic traffic
Would be great if people will add their own thoughts/marketing cases here. Concerning the different ad networks/platforms etc:angel:

If you really want to invest in making your app the next big thing, you should check out APPSPIRE.me, a mobile app marketing agency. They guarantee results and are super easy to work with. To be honest, they are the real deal. If you have a little bit of money to spend to get your app huge, I really recommend that you check them out.
pay attention to your existing users
I may share one more tip
You might have developed an excellent app, but you might be forgetting about retention and loyalty. Observing recent app store algorithm updates, you can see that retention and app usage metrics are getting more important for the app stores than ever. Loyal users are about to be even more value for both Apple App Store as well as Google Play Store Algorithm.
